Ace book recommendation alert!

I’ve just finished both of these wonderful ace books and I wanted to share my thoughts! I’m not going to do a comparison because they’re both very different. I’m gonna start with Sounds Fake But Okay because I binged all their podcast episodes when I first knew I was ace and I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time.

Sounds Fake But Okay

I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s basically the aspec point of view on a lot of important topics in life, using anecdotes and surveys to bring together a varied perspective on what it’s like to be aspec. I personally love getting other ace’s views on things because our community is so broad and covers so many differences and it’s great. It was really cool to get the aromantic perspective too. This was a really easy read and I would recommend for anyone who already knows they’re ace. They make it clear that it’s not an Ace 101 books but you can still definitely read it if you’re unsure where you fit in the community.

I Am Ace

This is the ‘asexuality for beginners’ book I wish I had when I was questioning. It’s written in such an organised and logical way that it would have definitely helped to untangle the mess that was my brain when I was trying to figure out if I was asexual. It’s the FAQs of the ace world whilst also offering advice, positivity and affirmations. If you are wondering if you are asexual or are new to the community then this book is for you. As someone who already knows they’re ace, I didn’t particularly learn anything new but it just made me so happy that a baby ace could pick this up and have all the information they need in one place. It also has a bit at the back for recommendations of resources such as other books to read, people to follow on social media and websites to check out. I’d say as well this book is brilliant to recommend to your allo friends to save you giving a Ted Talk every time you come out. You can just be like ‘here you go, here is all the information you need and then come back to me after and we’ll talk about how I fit into all this’

Achievement Hunter is changing and we're taking you with us

As you may have noticed, Achievement Hunter has gone through a number of changes this year. We’ve grown a bit smaller as our cast has moved on to work on exciting new ventures, including Inside Gaming and VTubing. Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of Dogbark, a new content group featuring Michael Jones, Alfredo Diaz, Trevor Collins, and Joe Lee. 

Rooster Teeth is at its best when employees have been given the opportunity to pursue new creative passions. Fifteen years ago, this meant giving Geoff the ability to create Achievement Hunter. And today, this means letting the Achievement Hunter cast move on to new creative projects.

Over the last few years, this has allowed our cast to put time into creating F**kface, ANMA, Red Web, Face Jam, and more. More recently, Jack and BK have put their efforts into streaming at Inside Gaming, Lindsay has begun exploring Vtubing as Ruby, and Ky is producing multiple projects, including some of those listed above.

With all of our new focuses, this means we will not be actively creating content for the Achievement Hunter channel. Let’s Play will also look a little bit different moving forward, but we can assure you that it’s not going anywhere, and it’s in great hands.

But why Dogbark, and not just new shows under the Achievement Hunter banner? At this point in our creative careers, we have grown as both people and as entertainers. Much like how early Achievement Hunter evolved from video game guides to Let’s Plays, we’re looking to take Dogbark in a bold new direction that is more heavily focused on improv and sketch comedy. It’s new. It’s fun. It’s weird. And it’s such a departure from what Achievement Hunter has been that we feel Dogbark is truly its own thing.

We’re very excited to share these projects with all of you, and we really do hope you’ll enjoy all the new content we have in store. Through the years, we’ve reached heights we never thought possible–from Haunter to the Hardcore series, from RTX Panels to AH Live Tours. Whether you joined us back in 2008 or 2023, we couldn’t have done this without you. We have been met with so much support as we’ve grown and changed over the years, and we can’t thank you enough for that.

We know this news might be shocking and saddening for you. It’s bittersweet. On one hand, we’re saying “See you later” to a truly indescribable brand. On the other, we’re getting to pursue new passions, explore, test ourselves as creators, and that’s an incredibly exciting experience. How to Get Inspired to Write and Regain Creativity

The muses are fickle, especially when it comes to writers. Sometimes inspiration strikes at the worst of times—while working, in the middle of the night, etc.—and other times it refuses to strike at all. How do you get inspired to start a project, especially when you haven’t written in a very long time? 

Here are some tips and tricks that may help you get back into the writing groove.

1. Is It Writer’s Block You’re Worried About?

This post is meant to be a resource for people who don’t have any current projects or haven’t written/worked on their current projects in a very long time due to lack of inspiration and motivation. 

In contrast, “writer’s block” is usually used in reference to having a load of inspiration and motivation to write but struggling with a mental “block” that prevents you from doing so. 

These two overlap a lot, though, so if nothing on this post is working, you can find my post on combatting writer's block here!

2. Set Aside Time to Be Creative

Oftentimes, creativity and inspiration can be lost due to a busy schedule. Life happens! Work, school, and a variety of other things could be restricting your ability to write or do creative things consistently. All it takes is one busy week, or month, or year, and now you feel like you’ve been thrown off of the carousel of creativity and can’t find your way back on again!

The key to combatting this is blocking out an hour or two (every day or every week) that you can use to spend time writing. Set a timer or alarm and put your phone aside (it is your enemy! It can and WILL distract you!) and sit down with the intent to write. Even if you get nothing done, getting in a creative headspace is still incredibly helpful! Baby steps!!!

By blocking out a specific length of time and putting it in your calendar, you can mentally prep to be creative and also can assure that you have ample time to get the juices flowing without worrying about being interrupted.

3.  Check Out Some Writing Prompts

Sometimes, it can be easier to start writing if you’re told what to write. A lot of writers find prompts helpful as warm-up exercises, and use them for projects on the side when they’re taking a rest from their current WIP.

It could be helpful to find a couple of prompts and see what cool things you can come up with! Even if they don’t seem like something you’d want to work on long-term, the very act of writing in and of itself will wake your “writing muscles” back up and get them in the groove of being creative again.

4. Write Fanfiction (If you’re just struggling with original works)

Fanfiction is a great way to get back into being creative because all of the hardest parts about getting started (character creation, setting, lore, etc.) have already been done for you. You don’t have to post your fanfiction or even complete your fic, just write a short scene or story about two characters with pre-established backstories, personalities, and dynamics. It’ll get you back into the basics of describing setting and writing dialogue. 

5. Make a Fun Playlist or Pinterest Board

Making fun playlists or Pinterest boards based on a certain genre, character, or piece of media you like can really get the creative juices flowing! After all, having a playlist to listen to that perfectly encapsulates the mood, tone, and pacing of your scene or story can really get you inspired! And with a Pinterest board for visual references to back you up, descriptions can come a whole lot easier!

I don't really use Pinterest except for art references, but if you don’t want to make your own writing playlist, feel free to borrow some of mine! Just a note: I find words in music very distracting when I write, so all of these are instrumental. Sorry if it’s not your cup of tea!

6. Read!

I know. It’s hard. And I can’t even talk; I haven’t read a proper book in a year, probably. For me, the hardest part is starting; I drag my feet for months before finally picking up a book, whip through a good chunk of it in one or two sittings, but once I put it down, I never return to it. But reading is an excellent way to get inspired as a writer, and to improve your way of writing! 

By learning and getting inspiration from fellow writers, you not only get an idea of the creative possibilities, but also learn how different writers work their process. Fanfiction counts, too!

7. Get a Writing Buddy!

Sometimes, creative things such as writing can be hard because they’re traditionally a “solo sport” so to speak.

But having a writing buddy, someone to just be in the room or on call with you while you both be creative together, can do loads for your inspiration. Sure, there’s a chance that you’ll just distract each other and fool around, but if you really work to hold each other accountable, even getting into the creative headspace is a great way to start.

Also, you have a partner to bounce ideas off of!

hiii everyone! since part 1 of ch09 has just been uploaded, we wanted to give you a little update re: the organization of the fic going forward as well. andi has had some things come up and she has decided to step back from acswy for the remainder of the fic. she has her own personal reasons for doing so and while everything is okay, we do ask that you don’t send us any messages or asks about it, just because it is a little private and not something we want to be talking about on this blog <33 obviously this isn’t anything that any of us wanted — we came up with the concept for the universe with her almost a year ago now — but this is still a story we are very committed to seeing through to the end.

you can check the FAQ for updates on how we divided up the chapters, which does bring up another important point: because of the way the chapters were initially split up, it was inevitable that we would both have two back to back chapters for the last third of the fic. this also means that update times are, unfortunately, going to be a lot more up in the air, now that we don’t have a buffer in between two consecutive chapters anymore, and these are already chapters that we have been spending a lot of time and energy on to make sure they’re living up to our vision for the fic! again, i know this is not an outcome that anyone is happy about, but we just wanted to thank you guys so much for your patience and flexibility. you’ve been super great during the wait for this chapter, and your support has gotten us through some seriously tough patches of writer’s block. hope you all enjoy this first installment of chapter 9, and we’ll see you in a bit for part 2!

Since I was recently tagged on making CC in milkshape, I figured I'd copy and paste what I know from my other blog, rather than just forwarding the page here for ease of viewing. It’s the FAQ page for creating CC under the read more.

What do you use to make mods?

S3PE is used to export snippets of the code to edit to make tuning mods. If you wanna make some yourself, HERE is the tutorial to learn how.

What do you use to make objects/clothing/hair?

This one has a few answers depending on what you mean specifically.

TSRW mainly for cloning and editing objects. It also lets me export the files in simpack and package formats.

If you want the version of TSRW BEFORE the sims 4 versions, you can get that HERE. This is important to note because some other programs used for CC creation aren’t fully compatible with the newer version of the TSRW’s WSO files.

If it’s an object that needs a fourth channel added, but it isn’t supported, Texture tweaker by Ignes Jones is what gives the object that channel to work with.

For meshing I use milkshape, and I’m currently working on learning how to use blender instead, since it’s freeware and has a lot more that can be done with it. However, it seems like the plugins from TSRW no longer work with blender, but there are plugins to have blender import geoms HERE that are best used with blender version 2.8-2.9.

There are some additional plugins for Milkshape that makes working in it much easier. There is an align normals plugin set by Demon 432 HERE, and the Unimesh plugins by Wes Howe found HERE. Lastly, to make UV editing easier in Milkshape there’s the CatofEvilGenius UV plugin HERE. They also have a UV flipper too.

For editing textures I personally use Photoshop and here’s how to add DDS usage to it with a link already there in it to download the necessary files. If you use Gimp instead, you can get the DDS files for it HERE. Installation should be similar to PS’s, just look for the file formats.

HERE is a link to the faces and scalps for when I need to model hair or jewelry, since doing it right on the head is much easier. Teens and elders aren’t in here because they aren’t that much different from the adult head.

Is that everything you use?

No there’s also:

Delphy’s Dashboard – Used to make sure my package files aren’t corrupt and won’t make sims implode. It’s also good for checking if anything you already have may be corrupted (a lot of it out there sadly is through no fault of the creator. It just happens during creation sometimes)

S3OC – Another program that lets you clone files, save unlike TSRW it can clone interaction objects, like toothbrushes, game controllers, bowls, plates, and other things that only appear for certain situations. The downside is everything mostly appears in strings with few images, but most of the names make sense for the items. Just sort by name and get to scrollin.

Compressorizer – This compresses simpack and package files in order to help keep the game running smooth. Due to some of its functions, remember to back up your CC and games before using the program.

MeshToolKit – This one is indispensable for creating custom content if you’re adjusting meshes just a bit, or using it to give completely new weight assignments (what makes it move and work like a sim body part) and morphs (the thin to thick range, pregnancies included). Thornowl also made an updated version that can be downloaded HERE.

Normal/Bump map plugins – They’re necessary for any CC you make, as most art programs don’t natively have the ability to make them. Now there are a couple different sets you can download and use depending on your art program of choice.

The ones for Photoshop can be gotten HERE, and this is a mediafire link because I personally had difficulty using NVIDIA’s newer exporter

Tengen’s cackling is interrupted by a swift smack to his bicep, Kyojuro’s expression distraught as he listens to his friend’s gleeful laughter.

“You like them, don’t you?” Tengen drawls, patting Kyojuro’s back with an enthusiastic thud, “So it’s about time you tell them.”

“I tried to ask them on a date,” Kyojuro admits, the tips of his ears matching the tips of his hair as he furiously blushes, “But all they did was Snap me a thumbs up!!!!!”

Eyes rolling, Tengen crosses his arms, eyebrow raised pointedly, “What exactly transpired?”

“I’ll bring you next time and then It’s a date! and then a. Thumbs. Up.” Tengen is once again cackling. “We even bought each other’s favorite flavors and they dabbed my nose with ice cream!” Tengen is shuddering now. “But when it was time to part, they simply smiled and waved and then walked away so quickly I was worried I had started to smell bad!”

“What deodorant were you wearing?” Tengen snickers.

“The one you recommended!”

Grinning proudly, Tengen claps his hands together, oozing confidence as he stares unwaveringly at Kyojuro.

Groaning, Kyojuro checks his phone, dismay flooding his chest at your lack of a prompt reply. At least they are not ignoring me he assures himself, mouth twitching as Tengen proceeds to poke his shoulder. Surely they are not ignoring me?! Poke. Perhaps the free slice of banana bread was a tad too much? reminiscing on your most recent stop by his cafe, heart clenching at the memory of your sweaty fingers brushing against his when he handed you your iced latte. Poke. Poke. I could have sworn they looked my way through the window before leaving… Poke. Poke. Poke. Maybe it was just the sunlight.

“Done daydreaming, lover boy?” Tengen winks playfully, glancing at Kyojuro’s phone with a sympathetic, “No response?”

Kyojuro’s moody grunt says enough, regret weighing his limbs at the thought of what he’d sent you.

“Are you and [y/n] together?” Tengen muses, noodles slipping distractedly off his chopsticks, “You don’t use social media, and yet, you’re always snapping them.” Kyojuro pauses, spoonful of broth freezing as his brow furrows. “Y’know,” Tengen gestures with his chopsticks, “Together.” “I know,” Kyojuro chuckles, a gentle puff of air prolonging the anticipation, “To be frank… no.” “NO?!” Tengen exclaims, chopsticks slamming onto the table, nearby patrons glancing curiously in his direction, “Dude. What do you mean no?!?!?!” Faintly alarmed, Kyojuro takes a sip of his soup, the steaming liquid calming his nerves as he murmurs Umai! “Kyojuro,” Tengen emphasizes, “They clearly like you, and you clearly like them, so why are you not together?!” “Nothing is clear,” Kyojuro patiently corrects him, “Much like this hazy broth, I cannot discern whether or not they like me.” “Okaaay,” Tengen scoffs, “But you like the broth!” “But they are a real person with real feelings.” “Unlike the broth,” Tengen deadpans. “Precisely,” Kyojuro smiles easily, slurping his broth with a resigned sigh, “Unlike the broth, I cannot impose my will upon them, nor would I ever wish to.” “But,” Tengen smirks, “You wish to eat the broth.” “Uh…” Kyojuro hesitates, cheeks warming, “... yes?” “SO EAT THE DAMN BROTH!!!!!” “Tengen, that is not how consent works.”

With a bored yawn, Tengen picks up Kyojuro’s phone, unlocking it to play Clash of Clans—Kyojuros’ quite dedicated to his base—only to snort amusedly at his home screen.

“Man, I hope they open your Snap soon.”

Eyes widening in realization, Kyojuro makes a frantic grab for his phone, huffing as Tengen immediately holds it above his head, cursing how—despite his own tall stature—much taller Tengen is than him.

“You have a photo like this with them, and you can’t figure out their feelings for you? And I used to consider myself clueless!”

“You have three girlfriends,” Kyojuro grumbles, “So cease your fake modesty.”

“They’re practically hugging you! If I was a random person and I saw your home screen, I’d assume you were in love!” Tengen teases.

“Well I am,” Kyojuro admits, voice softening as he gazes at his phone in Tengen’s grip, “But I… I could not bring myself to presume that they are too.”

I could not bear the heartbreak that would ensue, should my presumption prove untrue.

With an exasperated Tsk, Tengen returns Kyojuro’s phone, perceiving his unuttered fear with sincere solidarity.

“Do you think they are preoccupied?”

“Kyojuro, it’s been five minutes. Suma takes longer than that to answer me, and she’s clingy as hell.”

“They do not feel the same.”

“Kyojuro, they could be shitting and forgot to take their phone with them. Or hanging out with friends and not checking it. Or-”

“-injured in a ditch?!”

“NO,” Tengen’s lips purse, patience dwindling as Kyojuro’s face falls, “For fuck’s sake! How about you call them?”

“Absolutely not,” Kyojuro interjects, “I already sent them the stupidest Snap confessing my stupid, stupid feelings for them! I ALREADY CONFESSED MY FEELINGS. Using Snapchat! I am the opposite of romantic.”

“Your feelings aren’t stupid, and romance is dead anyway,” Tengen shrugs.

“You bought your girlfriends personalized bouquets last month,” Kyojuro retorts.

“If snapping them your feelings is this difficult, then I struggle to believe you could’ve told them in person.”

“I would never.”

Inhaling deeply, Tengen mutters darkly, “Rengoku Kyojuro, I am going to fucking-”

“-they snapped me!”
