It was over.

The sky had turned into a shade of color more similar to the human realm's sky than what it was previously. A hand was reaching out into the sky, red grass growing over what houses she could see there. Faintly, she could see people on palisman holding onto said palismen for dear life.

They were fine, it looked like. She directed Azura downwards, claws wrapped around the staff.

Everyone had gathered at the owl house already. Luz was aiming to reunite with someone else.

Landing in front of Hexside, the half-titan jumped off of her palisman's staff. Azura started to move, the bat landing on Luz's shoulder, her usual perch. Luz scratched Azura's head, then glanced around, looking at the reunions of a few others.

There. In the crowd.

Luz bolted into a run, feet claws slamming into the ground and leaving some scars.

"Skara!" She shouted, and instantly went in for the lift + spin. "I'm so glad to see you again!"

Luz watched the collector patiently as they formed their words, keeping her expression level. Her eyes drifted down to their hand when they held it out.

She smiled, holding out her hand and shaking it. Her ears twitched up, free to move. "And I'm Luz Noceda. I'd be happy to be friends with you!" She let go of their hand, now holding her own hands behind her back. "I promise not to lie to you. Not unless-" She held up a pointer finger. "it's funny."

She smirked, holding Azura's staff. "Want me to explain?"

Hunter :: Verses

- Main Verse -

This one is pretty straightforward, it’s his usual canon verse, though I have deviated from canon just slightly, in the sense that Flapjack is not dead and was instead severely wounded by Belos to the point of near death, but managed to survive, as did Hunter.

Also, this verse does not include the time skip post-finale. Hunter is still 16/17 in this verse.

- Post-Finale Verse -

Again, pretty straightforward. Goes along with canon, except for the same minor details from the main verse, but also it must be noted that in this verse, Darius is also not Hunter’s legal guardian. Instead, I maintain that Hunter was legally adopted by Camila, and so is officially Luz’s brother.

Now, in this verse, Hunter is now 20 years old and has been learning to carve palismen. He of course still has Flapjack, but he also carved Waffle. Originally Waffle was intended to be a palisman for someone else, but after unfortunately being mistreated, the blue jay palisman has returned to Hunter and refuses to leave. So she’s ultimately become Flapjack’s little sister.

Hunter now also works very closely with the Bat Queen to help every single mistreated or abandoned palisman find the right home for them. He has tried multiple times to find a new home for Waffle, but as previously stated, she refuses to leave and has not bonded with anyone but Hunter.

Hunter does still have the cardinal tattoo, but instead of being in memory of Flapjack, it’s a reminder of their hardships and a mark of the deep bond they have now. Waffle has been a bit jealous and bratty about it, and has a tendency to bite and peck at it, while also insisting Hunter should get one for her too.

- The Littlest Scout Verse -

This is a pre-canon, child Hunter verse. In this verse, he is between ages 4-9. He is still in training as a scout and nowhere near becoming the Golden Guard yet. He’s stubborn and tries his best to be tough and confident, but he’s actually very shy and awkward. The younger he is in this verse, the more likely it is he has never been allowed outside the palace grounds, possibly not even allowed outside the palace itself. So he is very sheltered and very dependent on Belos in this verse.

If he is seen outside the palace grounds in this verse, please assume he is lost, especially if he is by himself. Between ages 7-9, he is allowed outside the palace grounds but he must always be accompanied by scouts. If he’s encountered outside the palace grounds around age 4 or 5, he is definitely lost and should not even be outside the palace itself. Ages 6-7, he shouldn’t be outside the palace grounds.

The younger he is, the more likely he is to run away and/or hide from your muse. Especially if your muse is an adult.

- The Wildest Witch Verse -

This is a verse in which Hunter has instead been raised by Eda since age 5. He is a rebellious punk teenager who lives at the Owl House, and spends a lot of his time around Bonesborough acting as a masked vigilante sabotaging the guards and scouts, generally throwing a monkey wrench in all of Belos’s plans.

As a vigilante behind a mask, he is known as the Gilded Owl, and he is pretty popular among Hexside students who love gossiping and making up stories or spreading rumors about his escapades. His identity behind the mask is absolutely not common knowledge, so if he’s seen with Eda while unmasked, most don’t really put two and two together that he’s the Gilded Owl.

Other than that, almost everything in this verse is the same as canon, with the exception of any conflicts with ‘the Golden Guard’ instead being occupied by other antagonistic characters, and Hunter is present for most occurrences around the Owl House itself, and occasionally inserting himself like an annoying big brother in Luz’s day to day interactions with her friends.

Moonlight Conjuring? Hunter is there for that. Tibbles’ carnival? He’s there for that too.

Flyer Derby happens because he infiltrated Hexside with the intention of checking up on Luz, and got dragged into sports instead. Hollow Mind happens almost exactly the same, and is still upsetting because he never knew his origins as a Grimwalker. And he goes into hiding because now Belos knows his identity and where he’s been all this time, and he refuses to put his family in danger, not to mention he doesn’t know how Eda will react to the Grimwalker thing. So Labyrinth Runners still happens the same.

All in all, he’s involved in a lot more of the Hexsquad’s shenanigans in this verse.

- Cursed Verse -

Everything is the same as canon (with the usual notable differences) except that Hunter is under a curse like Eda’s, that turns him into a skull-faced peryton-like beast. He is Belos’s attack dog ultimately, and because of his curse, there is a curfew across the Boiling Isles. Everyone knows about Belos’s beast, and follow the curfew because they don’t want to encounter the cursed Golden Guard after curfew.

In this verse, Hunter does not take the same elixirs that Eda does. It’s an added layer of manipulation from Belos, that Hunter is lied to and told his elixirs are just as potent as the standard ones and will help with his curse, while truthfully he’s being given severely watered down elixirs that really aren’t as effective, so that Belos can take advantage of his curse and use him to scare the citizens of the Isles into remaining loyal and following curfew.

Hunter’s curse is exploited, and he is used as an example of what happens when dealing with wild magic. As well, he’s used to garner sympathy from the public, because ‘it must be so hard caring for someone who’s cursed like that. we must give the Emperor all our support. he’s so kind to still look after his poor nephew despite such a horrible curse.’

And of course, Belos uses the elixirs as an added means to keep Hunter loyal to him, with statements like ‘if you disobey me again, I may have to start withholding your daily elixirs, and you know I would hate to have to do that to you. you know how much it hurts me to see you suffering from this wretched curse. but when you misbehave like that, you aren’t leaving me much choice. you’re only hurting yourself that way.’

- Human Verse -

Hunter is a human teenager in foster care, who never knew his real family and actually spent much of his childhood with a rather militant family, and after being shuffled from foster home to foster home following that, was even sent to boot camps to sort out his ‘attitude’. His current foster family is awful, and he prefers not to go home if he doesn’t have to.

That being said, he goes to the same school as Luz Noceda, though a couple grades above her. With his own misbehavior and troublesome actions, he got the same ‘sentence’ as Luz. The summer camp that would likely crush the individuality out of them. He was avoiding the bus with all the military training that boot camp drilled into him, when he spotted Luz running off chasing.. something into the woods, and figuring whatever was happening there had to be more interesting than the dreaded camp, so he followed her.

Now, he and Luz are both living in the Boiling Isles, and they have no choice but to stick together as the only two humans in the whole place. Of course, Luz is very interested in getting to know the older boy she’d only seen glimpses of at school, but he definitely prefers to keep things to himself. Most of his responses about his home life are along the lines of ‘foster care sucks. Zero out of ten, do not recommend.’ and ‘you ever been to military boot camp? no? yeah, I don’t recommend it.’

- Mythic Verse -

(Based on/inspired by @turquoisespace35’s myth AU, but with an added twist)

Hunter is the half-gorgon son of Evelyn (a gorgon) and Caleb (a human), and as such he is capable of turning anyone to stone just by looking them in the eyes. With his father ‘accidentally’ turned to stone by his mother in a setup, and his mother subsequently killed for the death of the king’s brother, Hunter would have been killed as an infant if not for a kind man who stole him away from the arena and raised him as his own for a few years on the island where the temple once inhabited by Evelyn was, until he himself lost his life.

Now Hunter is sixteen years old, and he is fighting for his life every day after the king learned of his existence nine years ago, and has sent various soldiers and warriors after Hunter ever since. Many come to the island on their own as well, but most are sent by the king, under the claims that whoever returns to the mainland with the monster’s head will be made champion of the arena and given their choice of armor and weapons as a reward.

So Hunter’s island has become a proving ground for those eager to be champions. As well, anyone who dares question the king are sent to the island as sacrifices to keep the monster at bay, so that he doesn’t ever cross the sea to the mainland himself. If the king could have his way, Hunter would be thrown in the arena himself to be killed by gladiators if he were to ever come to the mainland, and he knows it. The last thing he wants is to be thrown in a cage only to be slaughtered for the entertainment of the masses, so he won’t dare go to the mainland.

But now, a nearly-blind girl named Willow has been sent to his island, and with her vision impairment, he can’t turn her to stone. So now, finally someone sees the truth of the monster on the island, and that he really isn’t a monster at all. Only time will tell what will come of this.

- Merfolk Verse A -

Everyone is merpeople, except Luz and technically Belos, though Belos has turned himself into one with magic in order to live among them and infiltrate their society, after he lost his brother to them (or so he claims). Following his brother’s death, Belos has tried time and time again to recreate Caleb, creating copy after copy. Hunter is the latest of these recreations, and the prince of the merfolk kingdom since Belos is the king.

- Merfolk Verse B -

The Little Mermaid, except Hunter is the mermaid and Willow is human. Her dads own a fishing boat, which she helps out on. One day, while out on the boat, the Parks haul in a catch they didn’t expect. The prince of the merfolk.

- Dragon Verse -

Everyone is dragons except Luz, and technically Belos, but like the first merfolk verse, he used magic to turn himself into one and infiltrate their society (but he’s actually a dragon hunter). After losing his brother, Belos has been experimenting with forbidden magic, using Caleb’s remains and an abandoned golden dragon egg he found, to create a dracolich that looks just like his deceased brother when he takes a human-like form.

Hunter has been raised by Belos now, and he was raised as a warrior and Belos’s personal guard/right hand man. He is unaware of what he really is, and being that his dragon form is still that of any other golden dragon, how would he ever know?

- Werewolf Verse -

Welcome to Gravesfield. Or.. is it Bonesborough? Well, honestly, it depends who you talk to, and which side of the veil you’re on. The layout of the two towns is exactly the same, and they’re layered on top of each other, just.. separated by a thin veil that divides the realms.

And on the day of a total solar eclipse, that veil becomes so easily passed through, that Luz Noceda doesn’t even realize she’s done it until she’s already in Bonesborough instead of Gravesfield. She was just running late to school, and somehow ended up on the grounds of Hexside instead of her actual school. And now that the eclipse has ended, she’s stuck on the Bonesborough side of the veil where all the monsters and various cryptids and creatures all live. It’s not all bad though. There she will eventually meet Eda the owl harpy, Willow the plant creature, Gus the kitsune, Amity the vampire, and Hunter the werewolf.

In this verse, Hunter is the nephew of Bonesborough’s local mayor. His mother Evelyn was a werewolf and his father Caleb was human, but Hunter is unaware of this fact, and currently believes his uncle Belos is some kind of changeling or even a wendigo, which Belos allows him to believe of course, because at this point he might as well be one or the other.

When Hunter was very young, he managed to get very lost. Scared by an unfamiliar monster with glowing blue eyes all over its body, he ran away from the castle and completely by accident, he fell through the portal to the human realm. Upon doing so however, he hit his head hard enough that he doesn’t remember anything about his life before he was in the human realm. Nothing, except his name.. being chased by the many-eyed monster with a face like a skeleton.

So, very lost and confused and not to mention scared of everything that moved, the little boy wandered the woods around the old shack, avoiding everything and everyone like a skittish rabbit afraid of its own shadow, until he was actually found by Manny Noceda. Manny spent days, when he could manage the time, earning the frightened child’s trust and offering comfort, until finally he was able to bring Hunter inside and get him clean and fed.

Originally, the plan was to simply give the little boy food and shelter until they could find out where he came from and get him back to his family, but as it turned out, there was no family to be found and it always remained a mystery where he’d come from. Not to mention that with his unique eyes and pointed ears, he clearly wasn’t like the humans in this world, so the Nocedas ended up adopting Hunter as their own, raising him alongside their daughter Luz.

Now the two are inseparable, to the point that Hunter won’t even sleep if he’s not at least in the same room as his little sister. Mostly that’s because if she’s not nearby, he still suffers from nightmares about the many-eyed monster chasing him, but it’s also because he’s very protective of her and gets easily agitated and stressed if he doesn’t have eyes on her before he goes to bed.

Now… as for Belos, well.. let’s just say he discovered shortly after Hunter’s disappearance that he can’t create another Grimwalker while there is one still living. He can try all he likes, but not a single one survives past the initial creation because the life force needed is still currently being used. Quite the monkey wrench in his plans, and so the position of the Golden Guard has stood empty for a number of years now, even though Belos has periodically been attempting to make a replacement, only to fail every time.

CHARACTER SUMMARY

Powerful witch of the Boiling Isles, Eda is a force to be reckoned with. She's defensive, knowing her wild magic is against the laws of her land and that anyone could double-cross her but she is the furthest from heartless. If she decides she cares for you, she is fiercely loyal to those she considers family. For most of her life she's been cursed, turning into an owl beast when stressed and without elixir to keep it subdued. Eventually she learns to control it, even if it means losing her ability to use magic without her staff.

#MOST FEARED - Set before the show, this is Eda living her life before Luz fell into it.

Living with her curse isn't easy but Eda mitigates it with elixir, spending her time in hiding and making her money by selling Human goods she gets through her portal. She can be met in the Human realm during this time, with her disguising herself as Marylin, often bringing chaos wherever she goes.

#APPRENTICE - Set during S1, all the way up to Agony of a Witch.

Eda has never seen herself as a teacher, especially given her loathing of schools but after a Human falls into her lap she decides to give the girl a chance. Surprisingly this softens her a little, warming her up to the idea of having a little family with her once again despite her curse.

#DIMINISHED - Set from end of s1 right up until the end of s3.

After the curse strips her powers, Eda is trying her utmost to maintain some sense of normalcy - or as normal as they can get. Her apprentice is stuck in their realm, the Emperor is planning something and she's powerless to stop it. However, she later manages to learn how to control the owl beast of her curse, allowing her to turn into a harpy-like form.

#ONWARD - Post-show storylines. This will also include anything during the Collector arc, it just seemed a little too short to give it its own verse.

After losing an arm, Eda has to take time to recover and restore her home back to its usual comfortable glory. Then it's on to help fixing the Boiling Isles. Eda eventually takes up a teaching post, running a school for wild magic that allows students to thrive and practice as they please.

Luz giggled, nervous. She reached out with her claws and tenderly cupped Skara's face. She grinned, showing off her pointer fangs. A kiss, planted right above Skara's own lips.

"A lot has happened in the past few hours," Luz summarized, her hand moving to brush over Skara's hair. "I'm happy you stayed safe through... all of that."

Belos' infection, spreading through the isles. Her own magic, growing over it with red grass. That same magic, still beating in her with her new form. She put Skara down, and stepped back. "So, uh, don't freak out too much, but like-" She waved a hand, and a few sparks of magic flicked out from her claws. She stared at it, then shook her head. "Anyway, I think I met like... the actual titan. As in." She points to the ground.

"And he blessed me with this form to help me fight Belos!" She pumped her hands by her side. "It should be going away soon, though, he said that it was a temporary boon." A pause, then a wink. "Wanna write a song about it? This may be your only chance!"

For a moment, Skara almost didn't know what to make of it. One minute, the world as she knew it was ending. The next, the corrosion was disappearing and it seemed like everything had returned to normal. Well, as normal as it could be, all things considered.

She followed as everyone else made it outside to reunite with others. It made her smile to see everyone so happy and relieved to see each other again but there was one person she wanted to see more than anyone else.

When she heard her name said by a familiar voice, her heart fluttered and she turned in the direction of the voice. But what she saw caught her off-guard. "Luz?"

Fictober 2022 Day 4

Prompt: 22 - "Who said this is a good idea?"

Fandom: The Owl House

Characters: Twin Kings (Main Verse King and Raven Witch AU King), Eda

Note: 

Request: For 100 followers. How about the twin kings pulling pranks on everyone using the time pools?

Yeah, so I kind of made a ton of writing promises plus working a full-time job. So I decided to combine the request and one of the fictober prompts. It was also supposed to be longer but oh well.

So RW King is going to be called Ruler in this fic. This is because It is easier to give him another name than having to constantly type out what universe they're from. Also, I imagine Luz and Eda would come up with a name to call RW King instead of King to avoid confusion. Not to mention it's funny and RW King doesn't know why.

"Are you sure that we should be doing this?" Ruler asked

"Nope," King responded popping the p. Ruler paused.

"Then why are we doing this?" Ruler asked. 

"Cause it will be funny," King answered

"You and I have two different types of humor." Ruler responded with a huff. 

"Eda won't find out about your involvement," King reassured.

"I'm not worried about that at all." Ruler lied

"Well, we're here," King said. With that, they looked at the beach. And there was nothing there. They didn't see any time pools or even hints that there had been any here.

"Looks real impressive." Ruler said dryly.

"This is where Luz said it was." King defended

"You do realize that they move?" Ruler asked

"It still might be here," King said. He began to poke at the air. Ruler sighed. He walked over towards King.

"We don't even know what we..." Ruler said. Suddenly he fell through a hole in the ground. He landed on the sand. 

Ruler stood up and looked around. King was gone. The Isle itself seems to be different. He backed up in shock and horror. Then the ground was gone. He landed back on the sand.

"Ruler!" King exclaimed. He rushed over and helped his adoptive twin up. 

"I think that we found the time pools." Ruler said. 

"Ok, so they're on the floor. Which time did you end up in?" King said. Ruler blinked in confusion.

"I don't know I was on the beach and you were gone." Ruler said.

"Well, then we'll just have to jump through one and see," King said. He went to walk forward but Ruler stopped him.

"Are you kidding? How is that a good idea?" Ruler exclaimed. 

"Who said this is a good idea?" King asked. He then continued to walk forward. King jumped through one and Ruler had no other choice but to follow. They were standing on the beach. "Alright now we just go to the Owl House and see when we landed." King began to walk towards the Owl House.

"If it is even there." Ruler muttered. 

The duo walked through the forest and came across a young Eda. Her hair was short with a mixture of grey and orange. King began to form an idea.

"Stay here I am going to the opposite side. When I call out mom you say, Eda." King said.

"Wait, what?" Ruler asked. Though it was too late King had already run off. 

"Mom!" King called out.

"...Eda" Ruler responded. Eda looked around. 

"Mmmmooommmm!" King called

"Eda!" Ruler called

"Haha, very funny. Go, home kid." Eda responded.

King came out of the bushes. He was laughing. Ruler rolled his eyes. 

"Let's go back." Ruler said.

The two of them walked back to the time pools. King was talking about all the pranks he wants to pull in the past. Ruler listened and just chose to follow along.

Hunter was at the school the day Luz sneaks in disguised as an Abomination Project for Willow. He made notes on the situation regarding the school going into a temporary magical lockdown to keep the human from escaping before plant life took over. He doesn’t report this information to Belos...yet. But he thinks he does keep tabs on things. 

The Intruder

Hunter stayed in the castle this day due to Boiling Rain. 

Covention 

Hunter was actively at the Covention in full prince uniform including mask to watch over the events, including the Witch’s duel between Lilith and Eda. He does not report what happened to Belos but he does show concern for Lilith’s reputation and loss to the Owl Lady. 

Hooty’s Moving Hassle - Lost In Language - Once Upon A Swap

Something Ventured, Someone Framed

Hunter does not appear at all, he avoids all Moonlight Conjuring invitations and spends his time studying.

He also avoids the Library in the next episode instead celebrating the Wailing Star event from the castle. 

He makes a point to not get involved in Lilith’s attempts to bring Eda into the coven and stays clear of the Market Place knowing what will happen will be a mess.

Hunter was in school that day, avoiding the Detention Guards with no trouble. But he did make a note of the destruction of Detention and made a note that once again the new Human was involved. 

Escape of the Palisman

Hunter does not go to the Hexside vs Glandus game, he’s been told he’s not allowed so he goes home. 

Sense and Insensitivity-  Adventures in the Elements

Hunter is a fan of Ruler’s Reach! He read the book and keeps a copy of it in his room. However he does not join the mob of people at the book signing. He stays at home during the events at the Knee due to it not being a school day. 

The First Day

Hunter had only managed to hide from the Basilisk Inspector invading the school due to the low amount of magic he possesses. However once everything was said and done he reports what happened to Belos directly as he was aware of some of the Basilisk research Belos had been doing beneath the castle. Due to events that have happened, The Jade Bard has been assigned to Hunter as his protector and to help him with school related projects much to his dismay. 

Really Small Problems - Understanding Willow 

Hunter was not around during either episode, not going to the carnival nor going to school the next day due to being sick. 

Enchanting Grom Fight

Hunter was allowed to go to Grom after convincing his Uncle however this is the last time he is able to act as a normal student and participate in after school activities. 

Wing it Like Witches

Hunter stays in the castle as he is being informed that Lilith’s increasing failures to capture the Owl Lady and keep up with her duties as Coven Head may result in her being removed from her high position and that he would be considered to take her place to have more hands on experience in a position of leadership. Hunter finds that the Jade Bard had been injured after walking in on the Emperor having a meltdown. Feeling back for how badly he had acted around him before takes on part of the injury, adding a new scar to his collection. He spends his time balancing school work and visiting a recovering Edrick in the infirmary, slowly becoming friends with him in the process. 

Agony of A Witch - Young Blood, Old Souls

Hunter was in the castle during this time, taking the day off of school due to the field trip happening, standing by his Uncle’s side while Lilith was being lectured and joining him during the Petrification Ceremony. 

Once Lilith’s departure from the coven was made official, a later ceremony was held to announce the Prince’s promotion as Head Witch of the Emperor’s Coven. He is still tasked with keeping an eye on the Owl House and its residents, but specifically is told to keep an eye on the Human as he is told more about Belos’ plans for the Day of Unity. However he is NOT given a coven sigil.

//There is truth to it, yes! Before the updated info of ‘Fool’s Blood’ the initial hc was Philip actually did make it home (also before we knew about his brother) but doesn’t think things through as usual when he’s just like ‘ah yes, telling my town in the 1600s about the existence of demons and magic! What could go wrong from that? :D’ He’s tried for witchcraft and tortured, set to be burned at the stake.

His family and himself escape back to the realm, but he’s dying. They reunite with Kiki, who takes him to bathe in Titan blood, the only thing that will save his life. It does, at a cost. It gives him the ability to communicate with The Titan, who he’s now a messenger for and tasked to ‘bring witches back into the light.’

His task starts out very benevolent at first, spreading his teachings and preaching about the proper way to do magic, kinda like a missionary. As his family starts to later die from the curse, both the curse wreaking havoc on him, and grief and hatred consumes him and he becomes far more ruthless and cruel with his teachings as he gains more influence, soon becoming the tyrannical dictator known as Belos.

Kiki widely blames herself for just about everything that happened to her friend, their family, and even the kingdom. She thinks if she had tried to find some other way to save him, they could have avoided all of this.

I’ve even been toying with a really fun dark idea since I believe The Titan could be the big bad, of the curse being intentional. The Titan needed someone to carry out its message and work for it, and manipulating this man into believing what he wants him to do is for the good of The Isles and in exchange, save his life and his family from this affliction caused by wild magic. In reality Belos is meant to be no more than a flesh puppet for his whim and eventual collateral damage that would die as soon as The Day Of Unity even happened, Hunter as well. As soon as he gets what he wants from him, Belos is nothing.

But I’ve gotta like toy around with all my hcs now to try and fit them more with canon lore lol

As for Little Firefly au, it’s all pretty much the same. The Titan starts whispering to Philip from the moment he’s submerged, but Kiki is the only one that Philip tells that to initially, cause that’s not something that he knows he should advertise. Eventually when he does become very close with Luz he tells her about The Titan. By that point she doesn’t even conceive of the thought that the father she’s come to love could possibly be the horrendous Belos. But coming back to her time it’s one of the things that gives her that jolting realization they’re the same person.

Luz cackled a bit at Hunter's initial response, waving her hand. "Alright, alright, no arson." She got up, and pulled up her hood. She looked more human that way.

She pointed a hand in the air. "Operation Steal From The New Store is a go!" She walked forward, eager to take the lead.

Azura shuffled into her hoodie, only barely poking her nose out of it.

With that, she started running, waving Hunter to catch up. They would stick to the outskirts of the main town, and Luz would only slow down when the formerly empty building came into view.

"See?" She whispered. "That." Her finger pointed to the strange new signage: orange hanging down from above the doors, and signs in front of them. "People keep talking about Halloween... and these signs say Halloween."

She turned to Hunter, face serious. "Are you ready to scout for our targets?"

"...ideally, arson is no resort," He says, expression going deadpan for a second, before he gives himself a moment to breathe in and out. He could use some fun, less stress, and with any luck, the opportunity to go out with Luz would be more of the former rather than the latter.

"Alright, alright, but you're leading the way."

He double-checks to make sure that Flapjack is still nearby, and whistles to gain his attention. The cardinal lands on his shoulder, and Hunter gives Luz a smile to signal that he's ready.

Luz stared at the sky in the human realm. She's laid out in the grass, hands curled around the green leaves on the ground. Her ears were flat, and she was just staring at the blue sky.

It's strange. It's different. Despite how they're living, Luz stared up at the sky and can still somehow feel at peace.

(Their friends are in danger. She tries not to think about it, how they need to go back, but sometimes she can slow down and just... breathe.)

"I don't think I can forget this place either." Luz chuckled. "Strange, huh? We're stuck, but... I kinda like the blue sky. Call me crazy."

Did Luz really just challenge Boscha to a game of Grudgby on Willow’s behalf?

“Luz, what are you doing?”

“I’m just following Amity’s advice. Boscha only speaks in grudgby terms. Trust me, I have a plan.”

Okay, this was NOT what Amity meant when she told Luz that. Also, she really hoped that Luz mentioning her name would result in Willow blaming her for this.

“Okay, maybe it’s the altitude of the second floor, but I thought I heard you say that Leaf Girl wanted to challenge me to a grudgby match.”

“That’s right! We’ll settle this once and for all on the field.”

“Or we could just talk about our issues.”

“Let’s do this.”

“Oh, no.”

Yeah, Amity was with Willow on this.

“If Willow’s team wins, you don’t get to pick on her anymore.”

“Fine! And when we win, Willow and your team will be our water gofers.”

“Ha! That’s not even a punishment. I love water.”

Luz had no idea what she was getting them into. During Amity’s time with Boscha on the team, any water gofer they had never lasted for more than a few weeks because-

“And we get to use you as target practice.”

...because of that. And if the hole Boscha just put in that nearby tree was any indication, she wasn’t going to make it easy for them.

“See you after school, losers.”

And now said tree was on fire. Yeah, someone’s definitely gonna be in the healer’s office later.

“Woo-hoo! Willow verses Boscha!”

Okay, as much as Amity hated seeing Willow getting picked on, this likely wasn’t going to make it better.

“Luz, this isn’t a good idea.”

“Yeah, I’ve never even played grudgby before! How am I supposed to beat Boscha?”

“But you’re the better witch. I don’t know much about sports, but I know about sports movies. We, too, are a ragtag team of lovable misfits joined together to defeat a powerful enemy. With a little team spirit and a training montage, we can win.”

Well, it looks like there’s no talking Luz out of it at this point.

“Well, if you think this’ll work, then I’m in. How about you, Gus?”

“In seasons past, these flags have waved in support of grudgby greats. Now they will wave for the greatest: Me!”

“What about you, Amity?”

Right then, Amity’s head was filled with mental pictures of her and Luz. Playing a contact sport together. Being within VERY close proximity of each other.

“Me? On a team with you? Running around in cute uniforms? SWEATING?”

At this point, Amity was in full-on panic mode. Her mind failing to come up with a response, she could only act on instinct. And right then, her only instinct was to bolt it.

“I GOTTA GO!”

Alright, Amity would admit that probably wasn’t the best way to respond. But she was a 14-year-old witch working with new, intense emotions. What else was to be expected?

Once Amity had gotten some distance, she started to calm down a bit, giving her some time to think clearly. There was definitely something she knew. Even if she hadn’t gotten flustered around Luz at that moment, she was still unsure about whether or not it’d be a good idea to accept her offer to be teammates. She’d already gotten two teammates injured last season due to her cocky attitude during the championship. She didn’t want to risk it happening again with her friends by playing.

Bonesbrough Library,

Afternoon

Once Amity had settled in at the library, she got started on the assignments for the night. Most of the work was relatively simple, so she was able to get through about half of it in 30 minutes. However, during that time, her mind couldn’t help but wander back to Luz, Willow, and Gus. While she knew that they’ve already been through a lot together, none of them really had any proper experience with Grudgby. On top of that, she also knew that there was no way that Boscha was gonna go easy on them.

Not to mention what this says about Amity’s efforts to make things right with Willow. Sure, she had told off Boscha that morning. But when Luz challenged Boscha, Amity really made no effort to back her or Willow up. And when Luz asked her to be a part of the team, she got so worked up over the idea and just left without any explanation. Why couldn’t these new feelings just be simple?

Amity thought that she’d be able to get her mind off of it by trying to focus on school work. But it seemed that wasn’t going to happen any time soon. And if that was the case, she knew that just sitting there worrying about it wasn’t going to do much good. So, that just left her with one option.

*SIGH* “I can’t bail on them now.”

Amity looked at the clock and figured that they were probably still practicing at that point. Knowing that she owed it to Luz and Willow to be there for them after everything that’s happened, she decided that the homework could wait. Right now, she needed to, at the very least, offer them her moral support. If anything else, maybe she could even give them some pointers.

Hexside School for Magic and Demonics,

5 minutes before the match

After hurrying back to the school, Amity went straight for the Grudgby field. Hopefully Luz, Willow, and Gus would be understanding about her sudden exit earlier. However, when she got to the field, something was off.

Luz was just sitting in the bleachers. Looking sad. Amity figured that it might have something to do with why she didn’t see Willow or Gus anywhere nearby. Curious about what happened, she started to approach Luz.

“Tough practice?”

“I pushed Willow and Gus too hard. It’s just, I hate seeing Willow get picked on. She’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had. Winning this game is the only way I know how to help.”

Pushing her teammates too hard, huh? This was starting to sound all too familiar to Amity. Although she could at least tell that Luz’s heart was in the right place.

While Amity had been trying to avoid the subject all day, at this point, she could maybe think of one way to help cheer Luz up.

“Did you know, before Boscha, I was the grudgby team captain?”

“Really?”

Well, Amity supposed that this was bound to come up sooner or later. Might as well be sooner.

“Well, once I left the team, I decided that was a part of my life I wanted to forget. We were playing Glandus High for the Island Championship. We had a move planned, and it was a good one. But, at the last minute, I decided I wanted to do something a bit flashier. I changed our game plan to... the Thorn Vault.”

“Good Witch Azura 2: Field of Deadly Fates! You watched it too?”

“Uh, yeah.”

It would seem that even a saddened Luz is still just as enthusiastic about Azura as ever.

“It went disastrously wrong. My teammates got hurt. All because I had an idea of how things should be. I pushed them too far. I never played again after that day.”

Well, at least Amity was able to get that off her chest, and-

OH TITAN, LUZ’S FACE WAS RIGHT BY HERS!

Next thing Amity knew, she was lying flat on her back due to the surprise.

“Ah! Sorry. I just really love backstories.”

As Luz helped Amity up, both of them had noticed that Boscha’s team had just arrived. Right then, Luz was putting something into Amity’s hand.

“I know what to do to make this up to Willow. Thanks.”

As Luz walked towards Boscha, Amity looked in her hand and saw… Willow’s hair clip. Wait, if Luz needed to hand it to her, what was she about to do?

“It’s after school. Where’s the leader of the loser brigade?”

“I’m here on her behalf. We forfeit.”

Wait, what?

“And I’m here to tell you that I’ll take Willow’s place as your water gofer, target practice, whatever you need.”

Okay, while Amity knew this was a nice sentiment, she had a feeling that Boscha wasn’t going to be swayed by this.

“Wow, you’re really a good friend.

And unfortunately, she was proven right seconds later as Boscha lit the ball of fire.

“And a perfect target.”

Oh no.

“Think fast!”

Muse Profile: Ariel

“Maybe he’s right. Maybe there is something wrong with me. I just don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad...”

Fandom: Disney Princesses/The Little Mermaid

Bio: The youngest of King Triton and Queen Athena’s daughters, Ariel is a curious mermaid who dreams about living life on land. She is also quite rebellious and courageous, like when she rescues her crush, a human prince named Eric, from drowning. She secretly collects human items that fall into the ocean and keeps them in her grotto. Ariel’s love of humans causes confusion for her sisters and anger for her father, as his wife died to eager fishermen when she was very young.

Then, one day, Ariel’s grotto is discovered and destroyed by Triton after a heated argument. In her grief, she strikes up a deal that allows her to temporalily live on land with the sea witch, Ursula. The outcome of that deal and everything that happened during it is, as they say, history.

Verses:

V1: fathoms below-Ariel before and during the movie, a curious mermaid who collects human objects and wants to live on land.

V2: the world above-Ariel after the movie, a human princess married to Prince Eric. She loses her rebelliousness-mostly, anyway-but is no less kind, courageous, and curious now that she lives on land.

V3: beyond my wildest dreams-A more generic fantasy verse compared to her usual ones; Ariel is a sea-based fantasy race based on the Triton race in D&D. She looks like this, but with ruby red skin the color of her hair and clothes matching the color of her tail. She’s supposed to be an emissary of the seas making sure no one is encroaching on its boundaries on land, but she’s continually too fascinated by land life to focus on her job.

V4: i will sing in every tempo-An Owl House verse! Ariel and her sisters are members of the Bard Coven, attending Hexside along with the main cast. Soon enough, a certain human begins to gain her attention, and she becomes enamored with finding out more about Luz’s world.

"What? Me? Trouble?" Luz laughs, and Azura the bat palisman rolls her eyes from Luz's shoulder. Luz reaches up and scratches the bat's cheek. "I can't possibly know what you're talking about."

She nudges Eda's shoulder. "Also, lotta talk coming from you, Owl Lady. Compared to you, my trouble is so small, it's practically invisible."

Luz is standing in front of a burning yard, half frozen over from her attempt to stop it before Eda came back.

Luz is flying on Azura, the bat flapping her wings at the top of the staff. She's flying beside Eda, and she laughs.

"Well, then, miss immortal. Wanna test it out?" She angles her staff downward, and she starts to descend. She cheers, hand in the air. "Let's race in the most dangerous way possible!"

She shouts back towards Eda, "Let's test out how fast you can go!"

Luz's hand tenses around Owlbert's staff. For a moment, she is a child again, hearing her mom discuss the fact that her husband could never return home.

"Well, they can have it easy, or they can have family-" Her throat catches on the word, and she switches it, "-people there to support them through life. Now let me give you medicine."
