H(a)unted Chapter 3
Ch3 under cut

Danny couldn't hear what was going on- his hearing was good, but not that good. He could, however, detect the rancid bile smell indicating vomit when the bailiff came for them. The large man was shivering, but there was no fear scent- just disgust and rage.
-
April 25, 1981
Restarted plant experiments, with four control plants of different types. Radish, fern, tomato, grass.
Restarted rat tests- completely removed all water contamination.
Also began tests on squirrel corpses. Sample A- dead one hour before exposure. Sample B- dead 4 hours. Sample C- dead 8 hours. Sample D- dead 12 hours. Sample E- dead 2 days. Sample F- dead 1 week.
V has noticeably sharper sense of smell. Complains about strong scents across the building, and burning tires from across campus. Located someone based on scent. Does not seem to realize he was functioning primarily via olfactory.
Possible increase in size of olfactory lobe? No decrease in vision or hearing that he has stated. Without an MRI, CAT scan, or PET scan, impossible to tell. For now, he is unaware.

Unknown Number: Are you safe?
Jazz felt reasonably sure it was Vlad. After all, he gave her the phone and presumably knew the number.
Jazz: I think so.
Unknown Number: Think again. (Image 1), (Image 2), (Image 3). Time to make an escape plan for you and your brother.
Her hands shook as she read the photographed note pages.
Jazz: I don't know what to do?
Unknown Number: Make an excuse for a study group. Come to Dalv Co.'s Amity Park HQ instead. You'll need to park at least 2 blocks away.
Jazz: Tonight?
Unknown Number: 6 PM
----
The courtroom was in absolute chaos when Danny and Jazz returned. Several officers were trying to keep people off of his parents. "Order, order!" The judge roared. "I will hold everyone in this courtroom in contempt if I have to! Order!"
The Michigan State lawyer's face was green. The Illinois State Lawyer was shaking. The scent of vomit wafted from the lawyer from Wisconsin.
"There are reasonable explanations for this, I'm sure," the GIW lawyer said, "if I could speak with my clients, I'm sure-"
"I'm tempted to report your clients for violating the Geneva Convention!" The judge snapped. "You will be granted a 30-minute recess once the State of Michigan has provided final evidence."

May 1, 1981
V has grown a tapetum lucidum and is starting to suspect something. He has grown more aggressive over the last few days and shown a hunger for ectoplasm.
Brought up the idea of human trials again. Vehemently disagreed. If he talks, everything is ruined. But we can get one last experiment done; the properties of electrified ectoplasm seem to be completely different from regular ectoplasm.
Jack entering discussions with govt org, GIW. If it works, will have enough to figure out ectoplasm, bring back the dead, and possibly create a new labor force. GIW is interested in enhancing soldiers. Doable from what we've seen in V.
---
"As you can see, your honor, the Fentons violated several rules of Michigan State University and several Michigan and Federal laws."
"Objection! This could be faked. Do we have any proof of the veracity of these claims?"
"Sustained. Counselor?"
"The State of Michigan would like to release medical reports for review. Please flip to section B, part 1."
"Whose medical reports are these, and do you have permission?"
Vlad cleared his throat. "Your honor, section 1 is mine from 2 weeks prior to the accident- which very well may be a murder- to the accident itself. Section 2 is for the weeks immediately after, before I left the hospital. Section 3 was done 4 weeks ago."
---
"And you say you've been having these symptoms for how long, kid?" Doctor Matthews asked, checking his ears.
Vlad could smell everyone who'd been in that room for the last week. He could smell everyone in the building now. It made his head pound and stomach roll. "About 2 weeks, give or take."
"Look at me? Bright light coming." The doctor warned, and the bright penlight seared his retinas, making his face scrunch. "Holy cheeseballs," Dr. Matthews whispered.
"I'm not dying, right?" He asked with a nervous laugh.
"Susan! Susan, come look at this!" He bellowed. "Ok, so I don't think you're dying. Something's definitely wrong with your eyes, though."
A woman in coveralls came in. She smelled like dogs- a ton of dogs- and a cat. "Jake, I'm a vet, not a human doctor."
"I need you to look at this, Susan. Tell me it isn't what I think it is."
Susan huffed and grabbed a pair of nitrile gloves. She tilted his head back, and frowned. "Turn off the light."
Dr. Matthews did so, but Vlad could still see. Not colors so much, but he could see details. He shouldn't be able to see the look of dawning shock on Susan Matthews' face. The penlight flicked on, but she didn't shine it in his eyes- just in his general direction.
"Fuck." She breathed.
"Language, Susie," Dr. Matthews admonished.
"This is worth a fuck, Jake. Kid? You're growing tapetum lucidum."
"I'm sorry, what?" He asked, feeling his Adam's apple bounce.
She bit her lip. "You know how cats, dogs, cows- lots of animals- have eyes that shine in the dark?"
"Yes ma'am?"
"That's the tapetum lucidum. It bounces light around their eyes so they have one more shot at seeing a predator or prey item in the dark. You've grown them. But humans- apes in general, we don't usually grow those."
She turned off the light. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
"Honey, it's pitch black in here, he can't-"
"Three. Four if you count the one on your other hand."
Dr. Matthews leaned on the wall heavily. "Fuck," he echoed, with feeling.
"Have you been around anything that might cause gene mutations? Any kind of radiation will do it, from the sounds of it just visiting Gotham can do it too."
"Just ectoplasm, but that only causes mutations if you get it on your skin or ingest it. And I haven't..."
"And you haven't what?"
There were 15 original samples. 10 were used. Where did the other 5 go? What happened to the last surviving rat? "I- I haven't ingested it. Or got any on me that I know of."
"Is there anyone who might have given some to you by accident?"
----
"I highly doubt three college students had adequate access to PPE," the lawyer in white said, "I'm sure any exposure was accidental."
"And yet my client was affected while your clients were not. I imagine if we examined your clients' children, they would have similar effects."
"Objection, supposition."
"Sustained. We don't know if either Daniel or Jazmine are affected."
"Even so, your honor, if the Fentons did not intentionally poison Mr. Masters, why not admit to the accident? Why keep records that would implicate them as using their so-called friend as a lab rat? And why keep copies of those papers in their home under the title 'Subject V'?"
"Fair point. Your first witness?"
"Dr. Jacob Matthews, MD. He was Mr. Masters's primary care physician while attending the University of Michigan."
Dr. Matthews had to have help getting to the witness stand in his wheelchair. He was sworn in- this time on a bible- with no incident. "Dr. Matthews, tell us about Mr. Masters's symptoms and disease progression, in your own words."
It is TIME
H(a)unted
Summary: Danny is surprised when he and his sister are taken to court with Vlad and their parents. Vlad is suing for custody. Ridiculous!
Or is it? As the court case continues, Danny and Jazz have to come to terms with the idea that Vlad may be their only shot at survival and escape- and that their parents are not the people they thought they were.
Who is he really? Who- and what- is his sister? Are his parents bad luck to be around- or murderers?
This story is told primarily through dialogue and epistolary storytelling as an experiment. Throughout the story, please expect body horror, illegal and nonconsensual experimentation on human beings, murder, and kidnapping. Mind the tags, please.
Chapter 1 under the cut. Tagging: @shroudthecursedone @ghost-malone @goata33 @tellmeabtspinos @murderandjam @elegantmantaray let me know if you want to be tagged for chapter 2!
Based on this convo!
"State your full name for the record, please."
"Vladimir Gregori Masters. Born Vladimir Gregori Romanov."
"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God? And, uh, the Ancients?"
"I do so swear."
Vlad wasn't swearing on a bible. Somehow, that made him almost want to laugh. Instead, he was swearing on a glowing purple book with ectoplasmic green pages. It floated slightly above the bailiff's hands. It hissed, opened itself, and Vlad bit one finger, allowing a drop of blood to land on the blank page. The book hissed again. "Your oath is accepted. Failure to uphold it shall result in grave punishments upon the river Styx."
A drop of sweat rolled down the bailiff's balding head. "You can set it down now," Vlad told him.
It added to the absurdity of the situation. One week ago exactly, he and Jazz were picked up from school by police officers and two CPS representatives. One week and one day, it was as normal as his life ever got. Just one day later, everything changed.
He hadn't spoken with Vlad- not for lack of trying, but he was always watched. If he could just get the fruitloop to see this wasn't the winning strategy! He was using ghostly artifacts in front of humans- someone was going to figure out what they were, and Vlad had a lot more to lose than he did.
Everything Vlad did had a reason of some sort. Neither he nor Jazz could figure out the reason for this.
"The trial of Vladimir Masters, the State of Wisconsin, the State of Illinois, the State of Michigan, et. all, versus Madeline and Jack Fenton is now in session," the judge said, banging a heavy wooden gavel.
Danny swallowed. This wasn't some dumb ploy by the fruitloop, not if three states or more were involved. "Mr. Masters, please state your intent with this trial."
"I see it, based on evidence, that I would be a better caretaker for both Jazmine and Daniel Fenton until they reach adulthood than Maddie or Jack Fenton."
Maddie or Jack. That made Danny freeze when he wanted to jump out of his chair and yell. Well, that and the tight grip his sister held on his arm. What was his plan if he wanted mom in jail, too?
"I would also like to press charges for murder."
A low murmur started in the courtroom. The judge slammed the gavel down again. "Whose murder, Mr. Masters?"
"An unknown number of children," he began, and Danny wanted to scream, "as well as my own." And then, in front of a full courtroom and cameras, Vlad Masters became Vlad Plasmius.
-
"The state of Michigan would first like to provide evidence." A lawyer said.
"Granted. Mr. Masters, please leave the stand." The judge ordered, still watching the ghost carefully. Vlad didn't try anything. He stepped through the witness stand and transformed back into his human form halfway to his seat.
-
The evidence had been provided by a librarian at the University of Michigan, of all places. A binder had dropped behind a heavy metal bookshelf, and it was found when the university started construction on a library expansion and had to remove the shelves.
Copies were passed around.

March 16, 1981
First attempt at protoportal had moderate success. Able to withdraw 15 samples, 1 gram each, of ectoplasm in a jellylike state.
Leaving 5 untouched as control samples. Divided remaining 10 into sample sets.
Hypothesis: if ectoplasm is what is used for energy by beings from another dimension, it should either burn or reenergize organic material. Possibly reanimates the recently dead.
Control A: houseplant. Watered exactly 2 every week. Kept in direct sunlight. Sample A- same type of houseplant, watered in same conditions. Addition of one ectoplasm sample mixed into soil. Sample B- instead of mixed with soil, applied directly to leaves and stem. Sample C- applied both in soil and on leaves. Sample D- .1 gram added every week to soil.
Control B: lab rat. Rat is given food and water amounts listed below. Sample E- rat has ectoplasm mixed into weekly water storage. Sample F- rat has ectoplasm mixed in weekly food storage. Sample G- rat has ectoplasm mixed in bedding. Sample H- rat has ectoplasm mixed in food and bedding. Sample I- rat has ectoplasm mixed in food, water, and bedding. Rate is .2gram/week for all samples.
Sample J- dead rat, killed by mousetrap. Injected with sample of ectoplasm.
March 17, 1981
Sample A- same as control. Sample B- ectoplasm has disintegrated the leaves of the plant and caused severe stem damage. Sample C- ectoplasm has caused some damage to stem and leaves, but not killed plant. Sample D- same as control.
Sample E- rat suffered convulsions, then dissolved from throat out. Sample F- rat noticeably sluggish, no other effects. Sample G- rat has developed red areas, and possibly will become sores. Sample H- results mix of F & G. Sample I- same as E.
Sample J- rat has begun twitching. Possible nerve stimuli?
March 20, 1981
Sample A- plant has a noticeable glow. Sample B- completely disintegrated. Sample C- plant is repairing damage. Repaired areas are glowing. Sample D- same as control.
Sample E- rat completely dissolved into black protein sludge. See images below. Sample F- rat's teeth have fallen out and been replaced with sharper ones. Images below. Sample G- pores are pus-filled and oozing. Rat lethargic, no longer attempting to eat. Sample H- red spots developed into bony protrusions, rat lethargic but still attempting food. Sample I- rat partially dissolved.
Sample J- body has begun glowing. Tail has noticeable twitching.
March 23, 1981
Sample A- plant has grown 8.23 cm. Sample C- plant has grown 8.04 cm. Sample D- growth of 6.82 cm.
Adjusted hypothesis: ectoplasm provides greater assistance to wounded/ill plants.
"May I direct your attention to the log for April 14?" The prosecutor asked.
April 14, 1981
Surviving and reanimated rats have eaten contaminated plants and each other. Vlad cites behavior as disturbing and votes to stop all animal testing until we can create adequate containment due to multiple escapes. Also cites ethical concerns; experiments causing too much distress to animals.
He is thinking too small. The animals do not have a large enough body to metabolize the amount of ectoplasm needed to maintain homeostasis after initial exposure. In addition, rat does not have a way to communicate thoughts and experiences.
Jack and I will be controls. No need to alert Vlad yet; behavior changes may invalidate results.
-
Bile ran up Danny's throat. This had to be a late April Fool's joke. Or faked by Vlad. This- his parents couldn't do something like this.

Your Workout
More
Let me ask you a question.
What do you think is the most effective way to increase your pull ups?
If you’ve been training for a while and you’re an intermediate trainee, then you probably already know that the best way to do that is to train with lot’s of volume without burning yourself up.
The best method to achieve this is, of course, the GTG (Greasing the Groove) method.
But what if you don’t have a pull up bar available at all times?
What if you can’t apply the GTG method in your own training?
Well…
I came up with a solution to this problem.
Namely, with the 1-Hour Pull Up Workout.
With this workout, you’ll be able to train with lot’s of volume – and thus increase your pull ups – even if you don’t have a pull up bar available at all times.
The only drawback of this workout is that it requires one full hour.
But this isn’t much, for the simple reason that you don’t have to do this type of workout more than once per week to reap the benefits.
The Workout
After reading this far, you may be wondering….
Why 1 hour Nick?
Here’s why…
First of all, a workout completely focused on pull ups, that required more than 1 hour, would seem very intimidating and you’d have lot’s of excuses to not do it.
Second of all, a workout that required less time would defeat the purpose.
Let me explain…
The purpose of this workout is to train with lot’s of volume.
To train with lot’s of volume you have to train with lot’s of reps and lot’s of sets.
To be able to train with high reps during most of your sets, you’ll have to rest appropriately between your sets.
And to be able to train with lot’s of sets, you need time.
Thus we have 1 hour.
However, you aren’t going to train your pull ups for the whole 1 hour.
Because…
Τhe 1 Hour Workout is structured like this:
The first 15 minutes consist of the warm up.
In the warm up, you’re going to prepare your shoulder joints and your upper body for the workout that follows.
In the rest 45 minutes, you’re going to do as many pull ups as you can. However, this is not an AMRAP workout as you’ll see later on.
The Warm Up
In the 15 minute warm up, you are going to prepare your upper body for the pull ups.
Keep in mind that your warm up is very important since you will be training with very high volume.
So, don’t take it lightly.
Since in the workout you are going to train only with pull ups, the warm up can be focused only in the upper body.
Particularly, the shoulders/scapula, the upper arms, and the forearms.
Here are some exercises for the shoulder joints and scapula:
Arm circles
Shoulder shrugs
Lat stretch
Scapula mobility
Hanging
Brachiation
Here are some exercises for your wrists and forearms:
Wrist Mobility Exercises
Here are some exercises for your upper arms:
Push ups
Body rows
Assisted Pull ups
Bicep stretch
Tricep stretch
You can put the exercises together like this:
Warm up sample
A1: 2×10 arm circles (both directions) A2: 2×10 wrist rolls (both directions)
30s rest intervals
B1: 2x(5-10) active hang B2: 2x(5-10) shoulder elevation (from pike push up position)
60s rest intervals
C1: 2x(5-10) shoulder retraction C2: 2x(5-10) shoulder protraction
60s rest intervals
D1: 2x(5-10) push ups/body rows/assisted pull ups
60s rest intervals
E1: 2×10 shoulder shrugs
30s rest intervals
Notes
You will go from A1 to A2 with 30s rest in between. After you complete 2 sets of A you will move to B. Between circuits A and B, use the rest interval of A. Perform the rest of the warm up in a similar fashion.
If you perform the warm up strictly it will take you less than 15 minutes to complete.
This will allow you to be a little more “relaxed” regarding the resting periods between the warm up circuits.
If you have a lot of time left after the warm up, you can use the remaining time to do some more stretches or warm up exercises.
Lastly, you can do some of the warm up exercises during the workout (between your working sets) to keep your self loose and prepared for the next one.

The Actual Workout
During the 45 minutes, you re going to do as many pull ups as you can.
However, this isn’t an AMRAP workout for two reasons.
First, your rest periods are going to be fixed and they’ll ranging from 3:30 to 4:30 minutes long.
Second, the number of reps/set will also be fixed.
A workout, for example, could look like this:
9×5 pull ups with 4:30 minutes rest intervaks (45 total pull ups) 10×6 pull ups with 4:00 minutes rest intervals (60 total pull ups) Etc
How to Structure Your Workout
How to choose the number of reps/set
First, you will have to find out how many pull ups you can do in a row.
Then, based on that number, your reps/set will range from 50-70% of your total reps.
If, for example, you did 10 reps, your sets would consist of 5-7 reps.
If you did 5 reps, then you’d train with sets of 2-3 reps.
When you start with this workout, I suggest you train with 50% of your total reps.
How much should you rest?
As you probably remember, the rest periods are between 3:30 to 4:30 minutes.
When you are starting out, I suggest you to train with 4:30 minutes between your sets.
After a while you can start decreasing the amount of rest gradually.
I like to always have the same amount of rest between sets throughout the whole workout, as it’s easier to remember and keep track of.
Rest     #Sets 4:30     9 4:00    10 3:30    11-12
So, if you chose 5 reps/set with a 4:30 break, you will be doing:
9×5 pull ups = 45 total
Usually, after your last set, there will be some time left before the 45 minutes are over.
Use this time as a break and when the 45 minutes are over perform one last set to failure doing the negative portion of the very last rep as slow as you possibly can – that’s the “finisher” set.
This will help you do a lot more in your next pull up workout.
So, you’ll be doing:
9×5 + (1-4) pull ups = 46-49 total
When you first start out, you may not be able to complete all the required reps during the last sets of the workout.
Don’t worry.
Just do as many as you can but without going to complete failure. (You can go to failure only in the last set of the workout and the one you do after the 45 minutes are over.)
How to progress with the workout
Your goal is to be able to do 70% of your total reps with 3:30 rest intervals.
To continue with the previous example, your goal would be to go from
9×5 = 45 -> 12×7 = 84
To reach this goal, you have to:
Increase the reps/set
Decrease the rest intervals
You can start with whichever feels better for you.
However, I suggest you don’t mix up the two, as it will make everything more complicated.
How to Increase the Reps/Set
The best way to increase your reps/set is to try to increase the total reps of the workout at least by one rep each time (as long as the rest intervals stay the same).
Based on my experience, it’s better if you “add” the new reps during the last set of the workout and then implement them in the beginning.
So, if in your last workout you completed 9×5, in the next workout you’ll try to add reps in the last set.
If you manage to add 3 more reps to the last set, then in your next workout you’ll add 1 rep in the 3 first sets.
Let me show you an actual example, in which you are improving by 4 reps in every workout:
Workout                     Reps/Set                     Total Reps 1st Workout               5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5         45 2nd Workout             5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-9        49 3rd Workout              6-6-6-6-5-5-5-5-9       53 4th Workout              6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-9      57
After this cycle is completed, you can keep adding reps or decrease the rest intervals.
In the above example, the “finisher” set wasn’t counted in the total volume. If during this set you can do more than 50% of your working reps (in our example, 3 or more), you can add 1 extra rep to your next workout (along with the other extra reps).
How to decrease the rest intervals
Decreasing the rest is a little trickier as it will mess up with the reps you’ll be doing in each set.
For this reason, I like to first increase the total reps and then decrease the rest intervals. This allows me to train with at least 50% of my max reps more easily.
I also suggest you keep the same rest interval for the whole workout.
I personally like to make big jumps of 30s, but you can decrease the time more gradually if that’s easier for you.
Once you can complete 12×7, you can test once more your max pull ups in a row and come up with the new parameters.
If you’re satisfied with your max pull ups or you can do more than 20, then you can make this workout harder by training with a harder pull up exercise.
For example, you can train with:
Wide grip pull ups
Close grip pull ups
L-sit pull ups
Weighted pull ups
etc
How to Get The Most Out Of This Workout
Even though the workout is very straight forward, there are things you can do to improve your results.
#1. Write down your reps
The easiest way to do that is to have a pen and paper when you are performing the workout.
Each time you complete a set, write down how many reps you were able to do.
By doing this, you’ll be able to track your progress very easily.
#2. Use this workout only once per week
I wouldn’t recommend you to train with this workout more than once per week.
Apart from being very time consuming, there are other training options that you can combine with this workout.
For example, you can use a workout that is completely different than this one.
In the 1 hour workout, you’ll be training with fast and moderate to high amount of reps, lots of sets, and big rest intervals.
To counter it, you can have another workout in which you train with slower and fewer reps, few sets, and small rest intervals.
So in one of your workouts you can add this:
A1: 3x(sub-max) frenchies (a different grip variation is recommended)
With 60s rest interval
How Can I Add This Workout To My Current Training Program?
This can be a little tricky, because the workout is quite long.
As far as I’m concerned, there are only 2 effective ways to add this workout to your current training plan.
#1. Add an extra training day to your workout
If you are training 3 times per week, this can be very easily done.
For example, if you are training:
Monday: Full Body Workout
Wednesday: Full Body Workout
Friday: Full Body Workout You can “remove” the pulling exercises from Friday and add the 1-hour pull up workout on Saturday.
Then you workout will look like this:
Monday: Full Body Workout
Wednesday: Full Body Workout
Friday: Full Body Workout (Without pull ups)
Saturday: 1-Hour Pull Up Workout
If you are training with the 3 Month Bodyweight Extreme Workout, which doesn’t have any pulling exercises into it, you can add one extra day dedicated to pull ups using the 1-hour workout.
If you are training more than 3 times source: https://ashotofadrenaline.net/1-hour-pull-up-workout/
