Buggy the clown x male reader. Buggy’s being difficult and annoying so he loses sex privileges. So we take his dick. “Mine now.”
Buggy x Male!reader - Detached
Tumblr media
"But Y/N I don't want to have dinner with your friends," Buggy huffs, standing completely naked in front of you with a nice suit laid out on the bed in the room you two had been staying in.
The crew had traveled back to syrup village so Usopp could see Kaya and all you had asked Buggy to do was wear one of the suits from the wardrobe she so graciously offered you guys but he was being as stubborn and difficult as ever.
"Don't you want to dress up nice just for a night?" You ask, crossing your arms over your chest to show him you were upset with him.
"The suit isn't the problem, well it sort of is the boys have no room to breathe in that thing," he says gesturing to his junk, "but haven't I tolerated your friends enough? I've been stuck on a boat with them for three months and I haven't killed any of them yet."
"Buggy if you and me are going to work you have to try to actually like my friends not just tolerate them," you state.
"But they are so annoying," he says dramatically, "and do I need to remind you they kept my head in a bag!"
"Fine," you say, grabbing his exposed dick right off his body thanks to his separation powers, "this is mine now."
"Y/N!!" Buggy shouts looking down at where his dick is supposed to be and then back up to your hand where it currently is, "give it back!"
"Nope, you aren't getting this or sex again until you promise you will try to get along with my friends."
Even detached from his body his dick was reacting to your touch and started to stiffen in your hand.
"Dammit why am I getting turned on by this," he mumbles, "fine, fine I will be nice to your friends."
"I don't know if I believe you," you say just to mess with him.
"I will, I will I promise, now please give me my dick back," he pleads.
Buggy's dick is only growing harder and it gives you an idea, an idea that you know Buggy would absolutely enjoy.
"Actually, I've thought of something better to do before dinner," you smirk, raising his dick to your mouth and popping the tip between your lips.
Buggy groans, fully feeling what you are doing to him.
He's staring at you in awe, wanting to touch himself but that part of him is already preoccupied.
You release his dick from your lips with a pop and set it upright on the bed next to the suit, "I want to see you fuck yourself Bug."
He nods excitedly, crawling onto the bed and situating himself above his own dick, letting you guide it inside him.
"Oh god," he moans when he bottoms out.
"Does that feel good? Your own dick inside you?" You ask.
Buggy can't get any words out, only sounds of pleasure filling the room answering your question.
"Better get moving, dinner starts in twenty minutes," you tell him, standing back and watching him begin to bounce on his dick.
He's moaning loudly at the feeling of getting fucked by his own dick, why did he never think to do this before?
You undo the buttons of the slacks you had chosen to wear to dinner and he groans when he sees your own hard dick peeking through the top of your underwear.
"Please let me suck you off," he begs, still bouncing steadily.
You lower the band of your underwear, your dick flopping out so you can stroke yourself.
"You want to suck me off?" You ask, stepping closer to buggy but just out of his reach.
"Please, please baby I swear I'll behave, I'll wear the suit, I'll do whatever you want just let me suck you off while I ride my dick," he says, reaching out for you.
"Well since you asked so nicely," you chuckle, letting Buggy grab your waist and pull you close enough for him to eagerly take your dick in his mouth.
It's sloppy as he's riding himself but damn does it feel good with his moans reverberating through your body.
He grabs your ass, pushing you towards him even closer so he chokes on your dick, gagging but loving every second of it.
"Good boy Buggy," you say, playing with his blue hair and he expertly bobs his head letting the tip hit the back of his throat repeatedly.
He's so close, he can feel himself reaching the edge but he holds off knowing how amazing it would be to feel you cum in his throat at the same time he cums in himself.
And he's right.
After a few more blissful minutes of sucking you off you're shooting cum directly down his throat which takes him over the edge as he fills his own ass with his cum.
His eyes are glazed in a post cum euphoria when you pull your dick out of his mouth, cum dribbling down his chin and a smile on his face.
He slowly stops riding himself, raising his hips so his cum covered dick can fly back to where it's supposed to be and he collapses onto the mattress.
"That was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced," he says, chest heaving with his dick still twitching.
"I'm glad you had fun," you laugh, stuffing your dick back in your pants, "now hurry up and get dressed, we have to be downstairs in two minutes.
"Okay, okay," he says lazily rolling off the bed, "but we gotta do that again sometime."
You hand him the suit and grin, "if you keep your promise maybe next time we'll see if you can take my dick and your own dick at the same time."
His jaw drops at just the thought of it, "you are a fucking genuis."
"Thanks baby but seriously put that damn suit on I'm hungry and don't want to miss appetizers."

not leaving you
Tumblr media
eddie munson x fem!reader
warnings: language, kissing, overall fluff, people hating on reader/eddie, crying
18+ over y’all
enjoyyyy
You paced around your room, biting your nails as it was a nervous tick that you never let go of.
Everyone was after your boyfriend — some even wanted him dead.
The thought of it scared the living shit out of you.
You knew Eddie. Yeah okay — he was a little intimidating at first but once you got to know him — he wouldn’t hurt a fly let alone murder someone.
It pained to overhear the nasty things the people of Hawkins, Indiana said about your boyfriend.
The only person that witnessed Eddie’s flee from his small trailer he called home was Max — who came and found you first to tell you exactly what she saw, but didn’t know where he was.
It’s been days since you last seen him.
She promised you that she — along with her friends — were going to find him and prove his innocence.
Of course, you went looking for him on your own but had no such luck. There was a place he went that you didn’t know of.
You checked your secret hangout spots and there were no signs of life.
It got to the point where all you wanted to do was give up. Max insisted that you take a break and take care of yourself” — as if you could only think of yourself right now.
You did your best to avoid eye contact with anyone while out in public knowing full well that everyone knew the two of you were in a serious relationship — and nothing will change that.
It wasn’t like the people of Hawkins were trying to hide the fact that they were talking about you. Did it hurt your feelings? Of course it did, but you moved on.
The thought of Eddie scared, cold and alone in the night kept you from sleeping at night. You held on tightly to the teddy bear he won you at the Hawkins carnival last summer as you cried yourself to sleep.
—
The following morning — thank God it was the weekend. You couldn’t deal with another day of stares and whispers. You looked to the side and stared at a photo of you and Eddie in a photo booth at the once iconic Starcourt Mall.
Once you found the strength to get out of bed, you quickly showered and walked downstairs to find something to eat. Your parents were on a business trip so you were alone, which of course, you didn’t mind at all.
You grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and poured yourself some cereal.
Before you could take a bite, you heard a knock at the door.
You looked through the peep hole before answering to see that it was Max — as well as her other friends that you didn’t know very well. You only recognized the one kid from Eddie’s Hellfire Club.
You opened the door hoping they had news.
“We have something to show you,” Max said, guiding you to the car.
As you stared out the window — since Max wouldn’t tell you where you were going — you didn’t recognize your surroundings. It was right outside of Hawkins when Steve parked the car.
As you got out, you looked around, not knowing where the hell you were.
“Where are we?” you asked.
“Do you know someone named Reefer Rick?”
You shook your head, “Only that Eddie buys drugs from him.”
Max nodded, “Well, this is where he lives.”
“Is he here?”
“Who? Rick? No. We don’t know where he is,” she replied.
You followed the group to the backyard where a shed was located near the lake. Once you made it to the door, the gang looked at you so you went in first.
“What are you guys trying to do? Scare me?”
“Would you just trust me and go inside,” Dustin Henderson, the kid from Eddie’s club, said.
You walked into the dark shed and looked around, only to find no one. There were rusty tools hanging from the wall and junk surrounding a large boat that rocked in the water.
As you were walking around, you felt hands around your waist.
You yelped, quickly turning around to see Eddie, the love of your life, the man you 100 percent believe that you will marry one day.
You were speechless, your mouth hung open as no words came out of your mouth. Your hands reach up to caress his cheeks as leans in to kiss you... hard.
You wrapped your arms around his neck tightly as he picked you up.
Your foreheads touch as he let out a laugh — thrilled to have you in his arms once again.
“Wha—? How? Are you okay? Is this where you’ve been staying? You could have—,” you began to ask almost a million questions.
“Shh,” he whispered, caressing your cheeks, wiping the tears falling from your eyes.
“I’m all alone, Eds. You could have come to me and stayed with me, honey,” you grabbed onto his hands still holding your cheeks.
“You have no idea how many times I thought of throwing rocks at your window, but you have too many neighbors.”
It was true — and many neighbors who can’t mind their own business.
“But.. why here? In this old piece of shit shack.” you asked, looking around the dump.
“Because who would look in a piece of shit shed behind the house of a drug dealer?”
He had a point.
“Where do you sleep? Where do you eat?”
“When I was a ghost, nothing basically. But when they found me, they brought me everything I need.”
“We’re coming in, I hope you’re not screwing in there,” Dustin yelled through the door before slamming it open.
—
After a while, Dustin complained that he was going to miss curfew so the group was going too leave.
“You coming with us?” Robin asked you.
You looked at Eddie, who was behind you as you were leaning on his back.
“I think I’m going to stay here tonight.”
“But you have no extra clothes,” Eddie argued.
“I don’t care. I’m not leaving you.”
“GROSS IT’S SO ROMANTIC!” Dustin screamed as he walked out of the door.
“Suit yourself, babe, there’s food and everything in there if you need it,” Nancy said.
All of a sudden... silence.
You turned around to hug your boyfriend once again and started to cry.
You felt so bad that your boyfriend was the most hated man in Hawkins, Indiana.
You heard him start to cry as well.
“I didn’t do it, babe,” he cried.
“I know. I believe you,” you did your best to soothe him, but nothing could at this point.
—
A while later, Eddie showed you where he was sleeping, which was a boat and a rolled up sweatshirt.
He took off his leather jacket so you could use his soft shirt as a pillow.
“Let’s leave,” you said.
“What?”
“Lets leave Hawkins. You and me. We can start the life we’ve been talking about.”
“You have to finish school.”
You groaned, he was right. You couldn’t get a good job without at least a high school diploma.
“I know, but I’m done soon. I don’t want to be here anymore. I can’t deal with the stares at school, I can’t deal with the constant whispers about how I’m dating a murder. It’s not right because it didn’t fucking happen!”
You hoped you wouldn’t cry again, but that didn’t happen.
You held your boyfriend tight.
“You don’t deserve this, Eds, you don’t!”
He shushed you and pulled you closer to his chest.
“Let’s just not talk about it anymore, okay? Let’s just close our eyes and try to get some sleep ok?”
You nodded, reaching up for a quick kiss and finding some way to go to sleep.

cute head canons for Darryl and Harley?
Oh boy >:]
(idk if this is about Contract in Blood or actual Terraria, but either way these can still work)
Before dating (because I ship them) I like to think they started out as rivals. In their canon relationship charts, they are neutral to each other, but they emote mean stuff to each other, so I interpreted that as friendly jabbing.
I like to think they became rivals because they constantly have arguments over if bows or guns are the better range weapon, since they both are rangers.
I like to think when Harley came clean about the whole WoF thing, Darryl and the hero were the first ones he told.
I know so many people make the arms dealer (especially with the guide x arms dealer ship) the one to fall in love first and generally a simp, which makes sense for how he acts in canon, but I find it so funny to think the guide was the one to realize his feelings first :3
Harley tried so hard to figure out how to ask Darryl out on his own, but he failed so much that he ignored his pride and begged the party girl (the town gossip along with the stylist) for help.
Now it's time for adorable stuff that ISN'T prologue junk:
Darryl is a sucker for physical attention/love. Holding hands, kisses, and hugs are his favorite go to affections (and Harley's too).
These fuckers are MARRIED, but proposing was an absolute disaster for Darryl. He got help from almost every NPC and still almost fucked it up, especially since he almost fell into a lake (he proposed while on a boat ride with Harley).
Even though neither Harley, Darryl, or the Angler (Sammy) will admit it, Sammy is basically the two's adopted son. (THIS HEADCANON IS BECAUSE OF ONE SPECIFIC ARTIST.)
Kathryn (if Healthy Dose of Rangers isn't involved đź’”) is a very supportive friend/ex for Darryl, but she will not tolerate either of the two's bs.
Harley isn't shy, but he struggles to show affection. To make up for it, he likes to talk or check up on Darryl a lot.
Anytime Harley struggles to remember anything about guns or ammo, he'll always get help from Darryl.
From the point above, anytime Harley asks about anything to do with firearms, there is a 75% chance Darryl will answer in the form of a 15 minute explanation. Man's just passionate about his work.
These two are either very chill or lovey-dovey about their relationship, no inbetweens.
While Harley and Darryl got over their rivalry phases with each other, they will still "fight" over if guns or bows are superior range weapons.
For their birthdays, or any other holidays the NPCs decide to celebrate, Darryl tends to get Harley really good arrows (with a lot of struggles) and Harley goes out of his way and abuses his "I'm friends with the terrarian" privileges to get Darryl some pretty good firearms.
They both love reading. They can spend hours at a time going through Harley's library, and it makes for some fun dates.
While Darryl may seem like (and act like) a complete dumbass at times, Harley knows he's actually pretty clever.
That's all I could think of at the top of my head, but yeah: middle-aged men yaoi.

A rant about spaces in games
As a person who's not in the industry and has never been yet in a development environment, and so has mainly just seen things from a player perspective:
Many, MANY, years ago was understood that if you wanted to give the idea of a big place, a big city, a big valley, a big landscape in general, OF COURSE you wouldn't just make it 1:1 in size and just put it there, it would be a waste of resources, time, effort, all for something that's needed only to convey a sense of scale and nothing else. Instead you would put some 2d images in the distance, an elaborate skybox, maybe some 3d more detailed object and bam, you had a big scenery, though fake. if it was a city, you would just put a wagon with fruit and vegetables, or a car, in front of a road that extends and bam, you have the image of a city that extends beyond the corners of the playable map.
Now more than ever instead there is this toxic obsession with "if the player sees it, then it must be explored, or have an active gameplay purpose", and a general perceived distaste for the concept of creating illusion, while going full simulation.
Now, to clarify: this is not a condemnation of all modern games, this is mainly a thing in AAA and AA games, also i'm not blaming any developers (i don't know how a game is made, how much pressure from above you have, how this might be the only way to keep the boat afloat in terms of sales and marketing), and also i can clearly see that this is not a dead concept; the contrary even! There are a lot of modern (though indie) games that take advantage of limited visibility to convey scale, or complexity, guiding the player imagination but leaving it work by itself. The success of games like Iron lung i think speaks volume about it.
The fact is, even among AAA games i liked and had high hopes for, i can't avoid to be a little sad about how bloated they are with this mentality. The two games that sparked these thoughts are mainly elden ring and tears of the kingdom.
In TotK case, i was sad to see how little they learned from BotW, at least in this regard; instead of closing in on the freedom of the predecessor to give a different, more intense and story driven experience, they doubled down on the original formula and expanded even more. Instead of removing, or readapting, the useless empty space in hyrule, the created even more empty space somehow, and filled it with junk that bloats everything even more. I like this formula, don't get me wrong, just...more often than what i wanted to in both games i found myself on the edge of a cliff, on the backside of a mountain, in a small hole, with nothing there and nothing particularly interesting to see or get, and i thought "why am i here, why am i allowed to be here, why isn't this just background seen from a distance"
In elden ring though i think there is the perfect, more poignant example: Leyndell. The first time i was inside the walls and saw the city, i was awestruck. it was beutiful, intricate, interesting, full of peculiar places. i couldn't wait to explore it all and for once in that game i wasn't overwhelmed with "toomanythingstodotoomanyplacestogo"itis, because i wanted to see it all. i love cities, especially old and ancient ones, love exploring them, lose myself in small streets and alleys. i was genuinelly amazed by the fact that it was completely explorable, and absolutely happy for it. After i've seen it all though, it hit me: ...it's a really small city. like, it's big from a player perspective, there is a lot to do and explore. but it's a pretty small city. I live near Lucca, in Tuscany, so i have a pretty good reference to judge it on, and i think (roughly and without measures, have mercy uhuh) Leyndell and Lucca are nearly the same size, Lucca might be bigger infact uhuh. And even if it's not and Lyndell is bigger, still, after seeing it all it FEELS small. because you've seen it all. Compare Leyndell to Anor Londo instead, and tell me which one of the two FEELS like a gigantic, enormous capital, full of streets, palaces and places for people; and of Anor Londo you only explore like a handful of rooftops uhuh. This might be just a sensation of mine, but the fact the capital of the biggest game Fromsoft has made to date feels smaller than in DS1 where you were dramatically more limited in where you could go....well, that to me is a failure of environment design, at least on an artistic side, in regar to setting up the atmosphere, not in regard to gameplay.
Do i mean with this that open world are always bad, that you should always be limited in where you can go? absolutely not! i love having freedom of exploration, and i like the idea that i can go where i can see! i just wish going forward that developers with the resources to do big projects like these are given the freedom, and the guidance, to guide the players more, to build rails on which our explosive passion of playing can be directed on without letting die out on a rock in the middle of nowhere that you're standing on for no reason. A good example for this i feel is outer wilds! you're free to go where you want, but you are limited by what there actually is to explore, plus the central gimmick. also, all there is to explore is interesting and meaningful, without collectables!
Also, i'm not criticizing empty space at all even. I recently played BABDI, and that is a masterful example of empty, "meaningless" space that is there for a reason, which is the atmosphere of the game. the fact you can explore almost all of the city while there is almost nothing interesting to discover aside from few things, contributes a ton the overall atmosphere.
So, what i'm saying is: developers, go to more theatre plays; not the big budget ones, that can afford all they want, i mean the small local ones, that are able to make you fell like you are in a ballroom with a fancy chair, a stool and a lamp.

What if Zack was the first person to notice and care that Sephiroth has a crazy strict diet and has never gone against it or had any junk food or fast food or anything Hojo didn't approve of?
Let’s be real here- Zack absolutely was the first person to notice this <3 <3 Sorry Gen & Angeal!! Not to demoralize them but I imagine those two caring about Seph, realizing he has limitations, and stopping there. They wanted to respect them. They had their curiosities, maybe a deadly impulse at Hojo after seeing a scar or two. But they were afraid of the electric fence.
Zack was NOT. He was getting in there, he was ramming into that fence, he was getting shocked, and he was going to keep climbing no matter how charred his skin got until he reached the other side. He was going to make him happy.
Zack discovers this horrifying soul blemish very early in their budding friendship, mainly because Zack was always snacking on something. Chips. Fries. Pepperidge farm cheddar goldfish crackers now with 15% more cheese. Zack finds the phrase “sharing is caring” religious, and he would inevitably offer one to his friend.
“Want one, Seph?”
“No,” the reply is automatic.
“You sure? Not even one?”
“Yes.”
“They’re tasty!”
“No.”
“You’ll love it! C’mon, buddy!”
“No thank you, Zackary.”
“It’s the snack that smiles back! It makes you happy!”
“I can’t.”
Beep beep, oooooowwwwwwhup. Alarm bells going off. It was all Zack needed to hear. Sephiroth proceeds to explain that Hojo, his caretaker (in the most air quotes sense) never let him enjoy foods that weren’t rich in nutrients. Okay, well-meaning enough. The concerning thing is that Sephiroth is 23yo and he’s still under Hojo’s snackless thumb. He doesn’t know what a potato chip tastes like, nor has he tasted ANY of the foods Zack lists. And it’s a very, very long list.
Zack’s immediate destination is the vending machine, to which he returns with a boat load of chocolate, chips, and the like. Sephiroth rejects all of it, naturally, but Zack is not a quitter. Esta no estupido either. He picks up a bag of chips and hands it out in offering, even as Sephiroth gives him that narrow-eyed, recoiling, lips-kinda-pulled-into-a-snarl face. Zack insists that he’s fit as a fiddle and that this, these chips, symbolize a step into independence. Hojo is controlling him and he won’t allow his friend to miss out on the small, amazing joys of life. He’s gonna fight this, and he knows Seph can too. The chips will set him free. The chips will be the key to his shackles, guiding him out of the prison cell with trails of salt to guide him, waiting for him to take his first crunch into the big world.
It’s a very empowering speech. Worthy of a standing ovation, maybe a trophy but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The important thing is that it worked, and Sephiroth is holding the chip bag. He takes one out and sniffs it first. It smells salty. And like corn. Zack is terribly amused by the way he’s analyzing the chip, especially how his eyes go all kitty-roundy. It’s so cute! (Zack smushes his cheeks.) Anywho, Zack watches with all the laser-focus of a deadly stakes football game, down to the last second of the last down of the last quarter of the last game of the playoffs.
Sephiroth takes a bite.
…Oh my.
Yes… yes this is very different…
Very salty indeed… very corny.
He thinks he like it.
What ensues for the oncoming months (after the firework show) is the role-reversing of someone weaning of a harmful drug, except it’s introducing Seph to different foods on the snack pyramid. Zack takes him to the bakery, getting a platter of cookies (Sephiroth loves the snickerdoodle), orders Wutain take out (Sephiroth loves the soy sauce), and starts adding pizza to their movie nights (Sephiroth loves the meatball). He still doesn’t eat unless prompted, and still resorts to lighter meals, fruits, veggies, and wet, engineered seaweed that Hojo used to feed him. He offers Zack this seaweed one day (sharing is caring, right?), dangling it out with his head kinda canted. Zack pretty much has no choice but to accept it. He doesn’t wanna hurt Seph’s feelings.
What the HECK, HOJO? (Zack cleans his tongue with a sponge when Seph’s gone.)
It takes time, as all assimilation does, but Sephiroth makes progress. He doesn’t hesitate any more when Zack pours some of his goldfish into his hand, and Zack smiling at him so proudly makes them taste even better. Even if he selects healthy options when they order in, he’s still agreeing to order in, and Zack’s always happy to share. They end up almost always with a 50/50 split of each other’s meals on their plates—which just like the goldfish, makes the food taste even better!
Seph also develops a big sweet tooth for vanilla pudding. It’s his go-to dessert when he thinks he’s earned it! He falls in love with anything vanilla and will devour it in a heartbeat. Zack’s favorite dessert on the planet is molten chocolate lava cake, and at the bakery, which Zack worships, it’s a tag-team effort! Zack takes down the cake and Seph handles the scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Mission accomplished!
Because Sephiroth is Sephiroth, his metabolism is at sonic speed (high-fives Jenova). He barely gains weight at all- a perfect scapegoat for his tainted diet. But one day Hojo runs a blood test and finds that his cholesterol level has increased ASTRONOMICALLY from the last time he took one. He is not a happy camper. He demands to know what sludge Sephiroth has been eating, and Sephiroth tells him the truth. Right front and center. Now he doesn’t say who has been “brainwashing” him because Gaia he doesn’t want Zack involved, but he does say, loud and proud, that he can eat whatever he wants.
Hojo calls him a disobedient rodent. And you know what Seph does? He stands up, walks over to his father, and slaps him right smack across the face. He couldn’t control his diet because he was a BIG boy. YEAH DAD.

Wednesday, August 14 - Mansuar Island and Gam Island, Indonesia
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had a day crowded with activities, and it was an incredible day. We visited two separate small islands in the Raja Ampat region and two villages, completely different in character. We had to clear customs and that was done in Mansuar, where the officials came aboard our boat, and before we knew it we had a chance to snorkel on the reef just offshore from the village. This reef is quite famous and folks come here to SCUBA as well as snorkel, and the fish and viral were amazing.
We were on the lookout for small sharks (positive lookout, since they aren't after snorkelers), and several folks saw sea turtles. I did see one very large eel skulking along the bottom, and that was a treat. As usual, my photos are on my water camera, so none are here on the blog.
Because we had the earliest time for our snorkel, we were able to get back to the ship, shower and change and head by Zodiac to the village. Since it was mid-day, it was very quiet, as well as hot and humid. The picture of the white house seems to be the typical "modern" model - we saw lots of similar places. They have made sand "streets" by fencing off the yards, and it was surprisingly rectilinear in layout. Unfortunately, with the advent of junk and packaged food, there was a lot of litter, and garbage dumps abounded along the path back into the forest. When the people lived on fish and local fruits and vegetables, the waste was organic - now it is mostly plastic, and there is no where for it to go.
We got back to the ship for a latish lunch, but since we were moving the ship to Gam Island, we had time to relax a bit before the next activity. As in the morning, here there was a chance to visit the village, and either take a more guided activity, or just wander. The other activity was billed as a "difficult and strenuous" hike to the top of the island to look for the Red Bird-of-Paradise, a species only found around here. There had been a hike on Mansaur in the morning, but most people turned around because it was slippery and challenging, and this one was supposed to be worse. Naturally I signed up for it.
Because we weren't starting out from the ship until 3PM, and there was no guarantee we'd get back before dark, we all took headlamps and bug nets. As it turned out, we needed neither, as there were no bugs, and although parts of the hike were muddy, and parts were steep, it was overall not bad and we made great time getting to the likely viewing spot. The birds tend to be found in this one area, but the chances of seeing them is far from guaranteed. After reaching the ridge and walking along it for a while we had a short scramble up to the top, and quietly waited, hearing all sorts of bird life. We finally did hear the rather harsh call of the Bird-of-Paradise, but he was way up in the foliage and hard to see. After more scrambling, we were able to see the male (sort-of) and then he flew to a much better spot and we were able to see the elaborate tail feathers and bright red hindquarters when he squawked as part of his courtship ritual. After that, we decided it wasn't going to get any better than what we had witnessed, so we headed back down towards town, well before sundown.
We had plenty of time to look for other birds on our hike back down, and we still arrived in the village with time to look around and explore. Here the people were out and about and I met lots of young people and children who were interested as to where we were from and of course, my name (I think the first English they learn is "what's your name?"). We had several locals helping us on our hike and it wouldn't have been possible without them helping to spot the birds and direct us to the best spots for viewing, as well as giving us helping hands on the steep and slippery parts. Among the several locals was a boy of about 8 who was helping along, and we all made sure he got good looks through our binoculars.
The town here has quite a good school - it is housed in several buildings built within the mangroves, and was open for us to tour. They stress a lot of local things, but also try to prepare the students to have the background to be able to go on to college. They have currently outgrown their classroom space and are working on a new addition that will allow them to educate all the way from first grade through 12th. They are hoping for some additional funds, and I think they will be getting some from lots of us on our ship .
I met a group of girls that were done with classes for the day, and they serenaded a couple of us with a guitar and beautiful harmonies. I didn't get their picture at the time, but Russ had met them earlier and taken their photo while on a village tour. The thought of wearing uniforms in the heat is hard for me to get my head around, but they all seemed comfortable in their beautiful blouses and skirts. They were both inquisitive and shy, and absolutely delightful. The building on the wooden walkway in the mangroves is one of their classrooms, as they are completely integrated with their surroundings here.
Russ had taken a village tour rather than the hike, and got to learn a lot about the locals, and I lingered in town until the last Zodiac back to the ship, talking with the local young people, and enjoying the early evening light. There were a few other tourists here, as it does draw folks for exploration and the snorkeling and diving, and there appear to be quite a few guest accommodations. It is quite a special place, and I felt lucky to have been able to visit her.
Tomorrow we are headed close by to a group of uninhabited islands called Wayag, where we plan to Zodiac, kayak and snorkel - another trifecta day. Our temperatures should be pretty much the same (night and day around 77-79 degrees F) and little chance of rain. Should be perfect!

Vietnam Adventure Escape
Exploring Vietnam: A Journey Through Adventure and Culture
Tumblr media
Vietnam, a land of stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, offers an adventure like no other. From the bustling streets of Hanoi to the serene waters of Halong Bay, and the ancient ruins of My Son to the energetic pulse of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is a treasure trove for the intrepid traveler. Here’s a guide to some of the best adventurous experiences this captivating country has to offer.
1. Trekking in Sapa
Nestled in the northern highlands, Sapa is a haven for trekkers and outdoor enthusiasts. The region's rugged terrain is adorned with lush terraced rice fields, verdant valleys, and imposing mountain peaks. Trails vary from easy walks to challenging treks, often leading through remote villages where traditional Hmong, Dao, and Tay cultures thrive. The trek to Fansipan, known as the "Roof of Indochina," is a highlight, offering breathtaking views from the highest peak in Southeast Asia.
Tumblr media
2. Exploring Halong Bay by Kayak
Halong Bay, with its emerald waters and limestone karsts, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that must be experienced up close. While cruising on a traditional junk boat is a popular choice, exploring the bay by kayak offers a more intimate connection with its natural beauty. Paddle through serene waters, navigate around towering limestone formations, and discover hidden caves and grottoes. The tranquil experience allows for a unique perspective on the bay’s stunning landscape.
3. Venturing into Phong Nha-Káş» BĂ ng National Park
Home to some of the world’s most spectacular caves, Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park is a must-visit for adventure seekers. The park boasts a network of over 300 caves, including the famous Son Doong Cave, the largest cave in the world. For those seeking a thrilling experience, exploring the underground rivers of the Paradise Cave or embarking on a guided expedition through the Dark Cave (Hang Toi) with zip-lining and mud baths provides an exhilarating adventure.
4. Riding the Ho Chi Minh Trail
Tumblr media
The historic Ho Chi Minh Trail, a network of supply routes used during the Vietnam War, has transformed into a thrilling route for motorbike enthusiasts. The journey offers a blend of rugged adventure and historical intrigue, taking travelers through remote mountainous regions, picturesque landscapes, and charming villages. Renting a motorbike and traversing this trail allows for a deep dive into Vietnam’s history while enjoying the freedom of the open road.
5. Discovering the Mekong Delta by Boat
The Mekong Delta, a maze of waterways, floating markets, and lush landscapes, is best explored by boat. Embark on a river cruise to navigate through the delta’s intricate network of canals, where you’ll witness daily life on the water, visit traditional workshops, and sample local delicacies. For a more immersive experience, consider a homestay with a local family to learn about their way of life and gain a deeper appreciation for the region’s culture.
6. Hiking in Cat Ba Island
Cat Ba Island, part of the Halong Bay archipelago, offers a different kind of adventure. The island is home to Cat Ba National Park, a haven for hikers and nature lovers. Trails through the park lead to stunning viewpoints, such as the top of Ngu Lam Mountain, and reveal diverse flora and fauna. The island’s rugged coastline and beautiful beaches also provide opportunities for rock climbing, swimming, and relaxing after a day of hiking.
7. Diving in Nha Trang
For underwater enthusiasts, Nha Trang is Vietnam’s premier diving destination. The city is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and a rich marine ecosystem. Diving sites such as Hon Mun Island offer vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, and underwater caves. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a beginner, Nha Trang’s warm waters and diverse marine life provide an unforgettable underwater adventure.
Conclusion
Vietnam’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage offer a myriad of adventurous opportunities. Whether you’re trekking through the highlands, kayaking in Halong Bay, exploring ancient caves, or diving in crystal-clear waters, Vietnam promises an adventure that will captivate and inspire. Embrace the journey, and let the beauty and excitement of this incredible country create memories that will last a lifetime.

St Baart & St Kitts - 3rd April 2013

Ile Fourchue
Tumblr media
This little bay of Ile Fourchue had some turtles swimming in it and the grey pelicans frequently diving for fish. This was a protected natural reserve and we had to ensure no fishing lines were visible while in these waters.
Tumblr media
St Baart's (St Barthelemy)
After a lovely break and a yummy lunch, we sailed to the rich island of St Baart's (St Barthelemy). What a contrast to the poor cousin St Maarten? This French owned isle was filled with expensive boutiques and beautiful cars! There was no sign of poverty and the architecture would have fooled you in believing that you were in St Tropez. Well you were in the St Tropez of the Caribbean!

We anchored on the bay for the night as we watched the house (bay) turtle do his rounds. We were surrounded by various yachts that indicated the metropolitan mix of this area. Despite all the super rich yachts, my favourite was our neighbour.....a Chinese Junk boat - rusty, poor looking and proud, it had a look of a spy vessel. But life was good, you could smell the rice being cooked on it.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We travelled by our dinghy the next morning to visit the island and also complete the immigration process for St Baart's.
Tumblr media
St Kitts (St Christopher)
That evening after an early dinner, we headed off for St Kitts (St Christopher). Although not on our original itinerary the decision was weather enforced.
As we approached the island late evening, we could see and smell back-burning. When we turned around the corner the wind dropped so the last patch of sailing (motoring into wind) took forever. We arrived in St Kitts anchorage (or what we thought was the anchorage late hours past mid-night). Tired and weary all we wanted to do was anchor and go off to sleep. The anchorage looked surprisingly vacant. No other yachts were visible and with the night vision the area across seemed like a working dock. We had gone past an anchored cruise liner earlier and wondered if that should have been the anchorage but our guide book indicated otherwise. It was too late turn around and we were too tired so we put up our "Q" flag indicating we are in the process of entering the country and completing the formalities if immigration and customs (these would have to wait until the morning as the offices would be closed at this late hour). The general feeling was to avoid a late arrival in the future.
The anchorage had a lot of swell (large sea waves) rolling the boat all night. I could barely sleep as it felt wrong. Just wrong to be there!
I woke up at the first light to see a very un-impressive industrial looking town in aft and we were facing the working dock in the fore as anticipated the previous night.
After breakfast, 5 of us got ready to visit this ugly looking town....country. We headed in our yellow dinghy to the work men's jetty as indicated in the guide book.
Leaving Phil & Sibylle with the dinghy (we had heard about dinghy thefts in the region) we made our way as indicated by the workers to the customs office. A smart lady officer in impeccable English advised us that we were in the wrong bay and although she could assist us a bit, we were better off going to the other side of the cruise liner where there was a marina and both the customs and immigration formalities as well as the port paperwork would be completed.
This was not the Caribbean island we were anticipating. An artificial facade welcomed us to blairing music, bars and souvenir shops, the place was full of overweight tourists, with orange skin from the 2 cruise liners anchored at the bay.
We had to stop at a bar to access internet by using their complimentary Wifi service.....this bar was in the annex of a casino, selling US $3 alcoholic smoothies at 11 in the morning with Asian crew from the cruise liners smoking like chimneys while they communicated with friends and family back home.
At the Customs and immigration office I saw my first set of carbon paper after almost 3 decades. Not self-carbonated paper, but actual blue carbon paper that had to be stapled between 3 copies of the same form. Do they still make them? After previous two islands of St Maarten and St Baart's where the process was computerised (simple & straight-forward) check-in and check-out, we found this a bit Neanderthal. To see the senior customs officer supervising her 2 staff while she read a novel in the background reminded me of the Indian government offices of the 70s.
Formalities completed, we headed off to the real world of St Kitts...simple, poor people. Patrick and I had a quick stop at the supermarket (another establishment owned by the Indians) called Ram's. No dearth of Indian pickles (Mother's Choice and Bedekars), spices etc...here. After the grocery shopping we went back to the boat and had a quick lunch. While Patrick and the rest went on a sight seeing tour, I stayed on the boat for some "me" time.
Again after early dinner we headed off to Dominica (for the cricket fans, this is the country of Shane Shillingford).

A day in Cruiser's Life - Sunday 17th March 2013
"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travels sake. The great affair is to move." Robert Louis Stevenson

Living on Hestia in a boat yard has been an experience. Besides the 5 minutes shower experience mentioned in my previous blog, we had some really unusual experiences. After the first few days we started realising that we were not the only ones living on a hauled out boat. There were people with different short and long term accommodation history on boats hauled out on a boat yard.
Some had lived like this for years, a French lady in her 60s who had lived with her dog on her hauled out boat for 3 years since her husband passed away, the young English man who lived in a hotel but arrived every morning to work on his boat (technically he did not live on the boat yard). The elderly French man, who reminded me of Santa Claus and looked a lot older than the 73 years he claimed to be. He had been living with his wife on a boat for last 26 years, there were other mysterious characters that we never saw during the day but come night time we would see the lights on these boats and the smell of food being cooked.
Some of these people were living illegally in Saint Maarten and hence we never saw them!
We heard about a monthly Cruisers Flea Market so after an early breakfast on a Saturday morning we headed off with excitement as we had seen some of the goodies being downloaded from the dinghies at the boat yard across the canal from our boat yard. Dinghies - this is the favourite form of transport for the cruising community!
When we walked across the bridge, it was amazing to see this community of sailors, some with sea beards and interesting sailor hats bartering for goods or just selling them. This included everything from sailing cook books, destination guides, sailing charts, dive weights, dive tanks, old clothes and sometimes new clothes, shackles, chains, radios, compass, old dinghies, fishing rods, fishing nets, mosquito nets with rust, flags of countries they had visited (you need to hoist this along with your boat registered countries flag when entering a port). There was also a lady selling her own book with autographed copies. One man's junk is another man's treasure and after all there is only so much place we have on a boat so if you have been living on it for long then you need to discard some stuff before you can add to it. There were sailors from almost every part of the western world.

At the Cruisers Flea Market in T.O.B.Y. (Time Out Boat Yard)
Besides this monthly market we also got informed that they communicated with each other over VHF every morning, discussed weather reports, missing items and items for sale or to be bought. This was also used to advertise the local restaurant/ pub specials for the day etc....
For me this was a sneak preview of a world that I did not know existed!
That night we had an Indian curry night and invited some of our neighbours along to our boat. An interesting evening ensued which included exchange of ideas, tips on resolving technical issues and experiences shared towards our planned trip. Mr. Santa Claus was there without Mrs. Claus and despite the language barriers we managed to communicate! He had lived in Delhi many years ago for 6 months and he was most disappointed that my authentic Indian meal did not include any paratha's! He was however impressed with our bridge deck.
He has lived on his boat for 26 years with Mrs. Claus on a near by island called St. Barth's. however 3 years ago their boat capsized in a cyclone and although there was no major damage to the boat, Mrs. Claus had injured her back seriously. She had to be taken to Paris for surgery that impacted 7 vertebrae and now even if they would like to live in an apartment he just does not have the funds. If he sold his boat it would not fetch him enough to buy a house/unit in Paris, besides since he owed some money to the French Government it is not an option.
The English man loved my daal! He had a Brazilian wife, who was back in London. He was a great company. He also helped us with his dinghy when we had to pick up ours and tow it back. Since the piece of junk given to us by VPM blew up when being refilled with air, we bought a cute 2nd hand yellow dinghy at a great price. Patrick hated the colour but I loved it! Besides it was working and in much better condition than what we had.
I never had a chance to meet the French lady but her dog was ferociously protective of her! Her boat was near the toilet and her dog freaked me out whilst going to the toilets in the middle of the night.
Patrick assisting with the setting up of Solar Panels
Overall through all the stress and anxiety of dealing with VPM and fixing the boat, we had a good time due to our wonderful floating family that supported us and helped us in all possible ways without a grudge about the pending delay and the hung situation. To them we are very grateful.
Thank you Phil, Sybille, George, Colin and Nick!
