Team Magic magical misunderstanding AU, where-
What if the amulet hadn’t been blasted onto the beach at the end of the shadow war though. What if it’d fallen at Scrooges feet again, like it did on Vesuvius, but this time he locks it up in the other bin.
What if Webby still went to the library looking for clues about shadow magic only this time it was a fake Webby (nervous huey in disguise, luckily you’re not supposed to talk much at a library) meanwhile Louie was causing havoc at the manor so Webby and Dewy could try breaking into the other bin’s new security-
Webby wont STEAL the amulet she PROMISES she just wants to LOOK AT IT FOR CLUES-
she swaps it for a fake behind Dewy’s back as they leave.
(Bad enough if they ever get blamed for helping her into the other bin, she’s not going to get them mixed up in the dark and very forbidden magic she’s planning next.)
(she's not losing anyone else the way she lost-)
What if Violet didn’t find the amulet on the beach that day, what if she’d gone down there (again) to clean up beach litter (for a junior woodchuck badge) mostly in the form of empty bottles with messages stuffed inside of them (as usual)
but now she’s more interested in reading the newest anonymous notes (LENA'S notes...)
which have shifted from clearly fictitious pleas for help from stranded sailors, to what seems to be a series of personal entries written on pages ripped from someone’s diary,
they chronical a growing friendship undercut by a secret betrayal that is causing the writer much well-written and fascinating angst,
and Violet has been compiling into a scrap book
(Webby took Lena’s diary from the amphitheater, and she opens it sometimes to thumb sadly though the ripped out pages right after they met, wondering aloud what Lena might have written about her)
(trapped in Webby's shadow, knowing she won't hear, Lena tells her)
On the night of the shadow war Violet finds several message bottles all with hastily and poorly penned single words in them, such as “ECLipSE” “MAgIC” “TRAITOR”
and she’s puzzling over them when what appears to be literal shadowy hell breaks out over The Money Bin of Scrooge McDuck
Not everything is darkness though. Chased towards the sea while trying to escape malevolent semi-corporeal shadows, Violet falls in the surf, only to see something blue glowing just below the water
The object flashes when she picks it up and the shadows draw back. A moment later the light intensifies for one bright moment- causing the shadows to flee completely- as behind Violet there’s twin flash of blue light from the money bin- before going completely dark.
Magic is apparently real and capable of protection as well as evil shadow summoning.
It also comes in the form of a clearly homemade bracelet.
Violet puts it on and begins to investigate.
Later, unheard and unseen the endless night of the shadow realm, Lena is clutching her face and shrieking whenever Webby pulls out Magica’s amulet.
Her wild tries to grab the thing and throw it as far away from Webby as possible only activate it, though, and make Webby more determined to figure out how to use it.
If it banished Lena (ONLY banished, because she can't really be-) then it can bring her back, right?
Webby quickly (unfortunately) realizes that anger is the key to Magica’s powers, and Lena can only watch as Webby digs deeper and deeper into painful memories and thoughts, trying to summon more and more anger, determined to master the magic she thinks could bring Lena back.
(not like this. if getting out of the shadow realm comes at the cost of Webby yelling at herself for not noticing the signs of Lena’s situation sooner and BLAMING herself for it, then Lena doesn’t want to be saved)
(not that it matters, since Webby can’t hear her anyway)
Huey is still going to the library as Webby, now covering for her alone time fixing up Lena’s old hide out
(a healthy step in the grieving process, according the guide book) (Webby is using the amphitheater to practice magic unseen)
What if, while researching at the library this time, Violet meets a Webbigail Vanderquack who is plainly a fake.
What if Huey-as-Webby looks down and sees Lena’s friendship bracelet on the wrist of a girl reading up about shadow magic, and runs to Webby in a panic.
What if Webby (keyed into anger thanks to all her magic practice) jumps straight to luring in and attacking Violet, who is clearly Magica De Spell in disguise again,
and what if Violet, unaware that the treachery warned of in the notes has already happened, sees a fake Webbigail wielding the amulet of Magica De Spell and decides her duty as a junior woodchuck is to take action against this plot-
What if Webby unleashes Magica’s magic on Violet, only for Violet to chant a little rhyme...
and block the blast with Lena’s own friendship bracelet.
What if, as Webby stares in shock (then anger, then fury), Violet reveals she has unlocked the magic of the bracelet she found, and the key is in reading out passages and poems from the torn diary pages- specifically those parts that talk about the writer’s friendship with the girl she is about to betray.
What if hearing Violet recite Lena’s words makes it harder and harder for Webby to hold on the anger she needs to fight with Magica’s magic, making her attacks faulter even as Violet’s shields grow in strength.
Webby, frustrated, goes for a tackle. Violet dodges, sees Webby’s matching bracelet and (a quick study) revaluates the situation,
she realizes she is in fact fighting the girl that the author of the diary had been writing about this entire time.
What if Webby summons one last burst of rage to try taking out Magica-in-disguise (who is not Magica, actually, or in disguise) and finally yells the thing that’s been eating her all this time-
Lena only got to know her because of Magica’s plot- she never would have bothered with Webby otherwise- she’s cool and smart and been to Paris- and there was never any way for them to be friends WITHOUT Lena getting hurt
In answer to this, Violet calmly reads a note from the first bottle she ever found on the beach.
“Beagle B-Day. Met cool weirdo & finally having fun. Taking the day OFF. Get rekt aunt M!”
Webby’s anger breaks.
Magica’s magic fades out.
And Webby’s friendship bracelet lights up for the very first time since the shadow war.
“It is my opinion,” Violet says cautiously. “That regardless of what your fears might say, the person who wrote this has always been your friend.”
Webby is crying.
Lena, unfelt, wraps her arms around Webby and glares at Magica’s dropped amulet.
“It is also my opinion that the ectoplasmic activity exhibited by the friendship bracelets’ you both wore is a positive sign that she still exists in some form or another, along with the magical bond between you two.”
"W-what?" Webby sniffles.
"Your theory was correct. She is not gone." Kneeling down, Violet pats Webby on the shoulder. “And using that bond, I intend to help you get her back.”
In the shadow realm, Lena’s beak drops open.
“Really...?” Webby whispers, then frowns suspiciously. “Why?”
(magica had used lena and thrown her away like she was nothing- had SAID she was nothing- and magica hadn't needed her magic for that. if she was using someone again, using lena again as bait...)
but Violet isn't even looking at the amulet.
“I have difficulties in developing interpersonal relationships with non-familial partners.”
Violet admits, holds up her scrap book of Lena’s notes.
“Reading these entries is the closest I have come to replicating the experience of having a friendship with someone other than my fathers, specifically someone within my own peer group. I sympathized with the author’s struggles to recognize and accept her own feelings… In fact, I believe those feelings of camaraderie are the true reason as to why I was able to access the bracelet’s magical powers. The quotes and recitations were merely a memory aid, used to trigger the required emotions of fondness, trust, shared pain, and admiration.”
Shadow Lena turns to Webby. What.
Webby is tearing up again. “You don’t have any friends? And, reading Lena’s diary made you feel less lonely, like maybe she was your friend?”
Ohhh. Shadow Lena looks back at Violet. Oh…
Violet tilts her head. “Who is Lena?”
“The girl who wrote all those messages." Webby is hugging her bracelet to her chest now. "...My best friend.”
“Ah." Looking down at her own bracelet, Lena's bracelet, Violet nods. "Then yes.”
Both bracelets start to glow again softly.
Nether of the girls notice Webby’s shadow stretching out on the ground behind them as it merges silently with Violet’s.
“Or to be more precise," Violet continues, "I feel as though I would like to be friends with her, if possible. And with you.”
“Okay,” Webby scrubs her face dry and smiles for the first time all episode. “..okay. You’ve got your very first non-family friend. One down, one to go! Let’s do this-! Um… what was your name again?”
“Violet Apollonia Sabrewing.”
“Violet! Hi, I’m Webby!”
“Yes, Lena’s diary did mention your name a time or fifty.”
Shadow realm Lena glowers, face pink. It's not like I had anything better to write about! Complaining about being enslaved by my evil aunt gets OLD, okay??
Oblivious, Webby front-flips to her feet and snatches Magica's amulet and holds it aloft.
“Now that we BOTH have a friend to do forbidden stuff with, anything’s possible! Let’s get magical!”
“At the library?”
“AT THE LIBRARY!!!”
Oh great, Lena groans from their shadows, more magic. And now there’s TWO of them.
As boring as nerd stuff is though, she still sits with them in the shadow version of the library anyway, hanging out with her friends who don’t even know she is there.
Not yet, anyway.
And so, in another world, Team Magic is formed.

🔥 Ducktales 2017 (if you're still doing these)
These are always open unless stated otherwise
It’s a really fun show but it suffers a lot in its third season from not knowing what to do with itself. It’s a season that simultaneously screams “we have too much time” and “we don’t have enough time”. Like, it’s the only season where the sibling were supposed to be focused on feels like he’s barely in it. Season 1 is all Dewey all the time and season 2 while juggling a lot still comes out heavily and easily Louie-centric. But man between the darkwing duck shit and the Webby and Beakley shit and the fowl shit that they had to entirely end by the end of the season Huey gets practically nothing for his troubles.
I think it’s a result of Huey having too many ideas but nothing central.
Dewey is a wannabe adventurer who’s desperate for attention but those are expressed via the vector of the spear of Selene mystery
Louie is insecure and gives into his vices more than his brothers but that’s mostly dealt with through the vector of Louie Inc.
For Huey, you’d think the guide would be the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook and indeed that’s what the attempt but there’s too many facets of Huey that only get one episode. In his first it’s his sudden competitive spirit, in the next it’s finding comfort in another child with autism, then his ability to release his rage healthily, then his sense of adventure needing to become stronger which was Louie’s thing in the previous season so it feels redundant here.
Too much was going on in that show for its own good and while it never entirely failed it certainly began to crumple under its own weight in the last hurrah.

Donald FOWL AU
How certain episodes events would play out with this AU in a sense: somethings will change but this is for now.
Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks: mostly the same.
Quack Pack: post episode is when Donald joins FOWL. And Huey realizes he miss the days before adventures. Louie already did before. Dewey realized later.
Double-O-Duck in You Can Only Crash Twice: is when Agent D is first mentioned.
The Lost Harp of Mervana: mostly the same
Louie’s Eleven: is when Donald and Daisy reunite after years of not seeing each other, and date again.
Astro BOYD: the same cause it’s good
The Rumble for Ragnarok: main plot is mostly the same. Bradford discuss with Donald about the Golden Atlas, and Donald refuses to help get it. Bradford tried anyway by getting Jose and Panchito to talk, Donald warned them to not say anything about Xandra’s location. They got captured anyway.
The Phantom and the Sorceress: Agent D is there with Phantom Blot for what originally was a break in mission to the manor. then almost everything goes the same.
They Put a Moonlander on Earth: Donald and Daisy are on a date. Donald is there to guide Penumbra. to show Donald and Penumbra friendship. And Penumbra decided to go back to the moon with the other moonlanders who want to go back, to rebuild tranquility.
The Trickening: same
The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades: mostly the same
Let’s get Dangerous: NegaDuck appears (it was a actual scrapped idea and a missed opportunity) and Agent D first “shows” himself in front of the family for the first time.
Escape from the Impossibin: Donald is first suspected than later let off, and family starts to look into who Agent D is. And clones are born.
The Split Sword of Swanstatine: Agent Duck appears again the kids and Scrooge’s first true encounter with him. Donald meets the clones for the first time.
New Gods on the Block: mostly the same except at the end of the episode Donald meets up with Xandra in New Quackmore to discuss something.
First Adventure: same
The Fight for Castle McDuck: Agent Duck is their along side Phantom Blot and Pepper to guide them around the castle and get the Blessed Bagpipes. And Della is there because she wants to see Matilda again after all of these years. (Also Scrooge’s parents are dead in this because why not) Bradford tells Donald about his reasonings as to why he’s doing this.
How Santa Stole Christmas: is completely different, it’s not about Santa, but instead about Della’s first Christmas back on earth. (It was missed potential and I would have loved to see it)
Beaks in the Shell: mostly the same in terms of main plot. Donald gets the Papyrus of Binding. Family finds the wrong Agent D. (Gandra)
The Lost Cargo of Kit Cloudkicker: Della’s first encounter with Agent Duck there’s something familiar about him but she can’t quite figure it out.
The Life and Crimes of Scrooge McDuck: mentions Scrooge’s past treatment of his family and how he got his fortune through some questionable means to drive home how Scrooge is a hypocrite and how he is a morally questionable person and always will be.
Last Adventure: family raids fowl’s funzos base, Webby finds the clones, Huey gets captured. Donald goes along with his family’s plans to raid the base, later goes off on his own with Xandra to free the prisoners. Webby finds out about what really happened to her parents (they were killed by fowl shortly after she was hatched her father was of the agency Donald was good friends with, her mother was Beakleys daughter and shush agent.) the kids, Ludwig, Gyro, and Gandra get captured again by the clones. Donald shows himself as Agent Duck to Scrooge. Della gets hung over the Solego Circuit instead. Donald points out all of the problems with the contract, Bradford and the others get arrested by Donald and Beakley. Donald takes in his clones and raises them with Daisy. The family finds out about the truth of the three caballeros and Donald’s secret agent days. Beakley finds out about his magic because Donald uses magic chains to keep Bradford and Heron from escaping.

The Junior Woodchucks
It’s not exactly a perfect drawing, but let’s dedicate a little to the best scout group in comics and they’re actually Junior Woodchucks. Huey, Dewey and Louie as Junior Woodchucks members are definitely the best when they work together and when they find solutions in one book, the Junior Woodchucks Guide Book. Here in the drawing, Dewey is trying to find some solution, while Huey and Louie are trying to help him. Of course, this is a version from the Donald Duck comics, just a little bit in my way. I hope to draw Junior Woodchucks better next time.

These are very fantastic observations actually, yes Huey despite being the responsible one, I like the fact that there are other people on his senior that help guide him, make himm feel like the younger brother in the dynamic.
Something I do wanna mention is that Lena had a previous one on one interaction with Huey, but it's very small but gives me an idea of Lena's earlier dynamics.
The Terror of the Terrafirmians shows Lena treating Huey not in the similar way of guiding him to be better, in fact she threw down his Junior Woodchuck Guidebook down a dark path of stairs, teasing him and his fear of the unknown, as well as terrifying him and Webby for one small prank when they reached the train.
It's just a very basic observation, Lena not in control with Magica anymore and spent a whole arc proving that she isn't like Magica. Other moments where Lena and Huey could only interact is with the rest of the kids so not a lot to go off of other than Terrafirmians and Swanstantine.
She's a great older sister figure for him and potentially for the other triplets too, wish they did have more moments.
I think most of this ramble focused on Lena sjdjfjeks
Let’s talk about Huey.
He’s the responsible triplet. He tries to keep his brothers in order. That’s the weight that comes with being the oldest brother.
But let’s face it. Even he needs someone to look up to. Not necessarily as a parent or guardian, like he would Donald, Della, or Scrooge, but as more of an older sibling.
Which brings me to the main point of this post: Today, I will be discussing three characters that have acted like an older sibling towards Huey at one point or another in the show (and in the case of one, has signs pointing to that happening more consistently post-canon).
Let’s start with Lena.
In the first two seasons, we didn’t really see Huey and Lena interact one-on-one much. Then we get to The Split Sword of Swanstantine! (which we saw yesterday for Movie Night, and inspired me to make this post at all), and these two paired off together to find the blade of the Sword of Swanstantine.
I cannot say enough good things about who the writers chose for each pair in the episode (them, Dewey and Webby, and Louie and Violet), and just how well they all played off each other.
Back to Huey and Lena, though. Their main adversary in this episode is Steelbeak, who resolves to take the blade with brute force, which Lena wants to match him with, but Huey would rather take a logical approach to it. So they enter Huey’s mindscape, and after repeated attempts to outsmart Steelbeak fail, Lena discovers a mysterious door to…The Duke of Making a Mess.
It’s this wild, feral creature that lives inside Huey’s mind, and Lena sees it as a way for Huey to get an edge on Steelbeak. But Huey doesn’t want to use it, as he’s uncomfortable with that side of him. But Lena gives him some advice as the former shadow of Magica De Spell: that he can’t ignore parts of himself he doesn’t like. He’s gotta own them.
So, after embracing both the madness of the Duke and his usual, logical self to thoroughly hand Steelbeak’s ass to him to get the blade, Lena called it the most beautiful butt-kicking she had ever seen.
Just look at how proud she is of him! She really didn’t think much of anyone besides Webby in Season 1, but now, she’s not only owning her past trauma, she’s using it to help Huey with his own demons (well, demon).
Sure, she took pictures of his various disguise fails versus Steelbeak, but that doesn’t change or diminish how much she helped him out in the episode. With all of that encompassed, Lena definitely gives off big sister vibes towards Huey in this episode (and I definitely feel like moments like the Duke one between the two of them would carry on down the road). Also, they have the connection of both being oldest siblings in general.
Next up: Fenton.
Of the three dynamics I’m covering here, Huey and Fenton’s gets the most coverage over the course of the series. After their first encounter in Who is Gizmoduck?!, Huey became enthralled with Gizmoduck after he saved his life, then disillusioned by him after he essentially sold out and became WaddleDuck, but in the end, it was Huey who realized that the perfect core processor for the suit was Fenton’s own mind, because Fenton is Gizmoduck.
In The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!, Huey (along with Webby) helped Fenton with his date with Gandra at the lab (“It’s a Date!” intensifies). Even though this episode more establishes the beginning of the relationship between Fenton and Gandra, Huey’s support for his friend throughout is rather admirable.
In Astro B.O.Y.D.!, even though they didn’t really share a main storyline here, Fenton was willing to help Huey out regarding Boyd, and he was also the one that suggested that Boyd be used to fight crime in Tokyolk. This really shows that Fenton and Huey’s dynamic goes both ways in regard to one having a problem, and the other finding a way to help them out.
In The Trickening!, even though Fenton himself does not appear in the episode, Huey dressed up as Gizmoduck for Halloween, and he really went the extra mile with his costume. He even imitated Fenton’s Gizmoduck voice really well (“Halt, citizen!”).
In Beaks in the Shell!, after finding out that Fenton and Gandra are indeed together, Huey helps the two keep their relationship a secret, even going so far as having Louie dress up as him so as to not crack under the pressure of M’ma Cabrera’s interrogation. And, of course, Huey, along with M’ma and Gyro, help Fenton and Gandra take down Mark Beaks in the Gizmocloud. Even though Fenton kept their relationship secret from even Huey for so long, the fact that Huey was still willing to help cover it up just a little longer shows just how much trust the two have in each other.
Huey and Fenton are really two peas in a pod. With Fenton as an only child, and Huey as the oldest triplet, the brotherly dynamic is perfect for the two of them. It makes sense to me that as life goes on for the both of them, they’ll still show up for each other, no matter what.
And finally, Gandra.
This is a tougher one to go strictly by canon on, because Huey didn’t share any scenes with just Gandra in the show.
In The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!, Gandra was probably confused by the whole romantic setup in the lab, and thought that Huey and Webby were mostly just in the way in regards to her getting close enough to Fenton to swipe the Gizmotech for Beaks (even though the partnership was temporary). Nothing direct between the two of them in this episode, so hard to say here.
Regarding their dynamic in Beaks in the Shell!, besides the above GIF where Gandra put a weighted blanket on Huey because he was freaking out, you can also piggyback the whole “keeping-the-relationship-a-secret” thing with Fenton onto Gandra, too, since it’s also her relationship. Plus the “taking-down-Beaks” thing.
They also had a couple brief interactions in The Last Adventure!, but beyond that, it’s up to interpretation. I think that with Gandra free from F.O.W.L., whether she sticks to her own projects, works with Team Science in some way, or both (again, up to interpretation), with Fenton’s existing friendship with Huey, it’s completely reasonable to suggest that Gandra ends up forging a friendship with him, too. And Huey would definitely like finally getting to work with her.
For as much as I love fanon’s takes on Fenton and Gandra’s relationship, in the past, Gandra didn’t usually get much else in the way of stories where she connects with other characters. Huey is absolutely a missed opportunity on that front; they’d definitely have a cool dynamic. Huey just has a way of worming into people’s hearts, and I think after some time, Gandra realizes how much she genuinely cares about him. This is not meant to be a buildup to shamelessly plugging my Gandra and Huey story, Bridging the Gap, but then again, it kinda is. If you want to read it, click here.
So there you have it. Huey’s a great big brother, but if you really, really think about it, he’s also a great little brother.

For once within Huey’s life, he felt completely lost by what to do. There was no rule or passage within the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook that could solve all his problems for him, and even if there was, he wasn’t even confident that it would do much to ease the way he’s been feeling as of late. A huge shocker since anyone who knew Huey knew he always resorted to his guidebook whenever he was in a pinch or felt troubled, but from everything that had occurred within his family and especially that of the actions of his middle brother? The Junior Woodchuck Guidebook could not guide Huey this time around, and that could possibly explain why his mind has been so loud since the day of the bombing. Huey hated feeling this way, and if it wasn’t his mind reminding him of how he hadn’t been there at the hotel when the bombs went off with all three of his siblings inside of it, it was then his mind taunting him of how he couldn’t do anything to protect any of his siblings! Of how he hadn’t been there to protect Louie— or at the very lest, prevent the amputation of his youngest brother’s leg. God, and don’t even get him started at what his mind says whenever he see’s Dewey. It was a mess. A horrendous and horrible mess, and Huey wanted nothing more than to turn back down and prevent all of this from happening.
To make matters worst, Huey also felt there weren’t too many people he could go to about this matter. He’s definitely not going to Dewey about this, and while he wasn’t as angry at Webby as he was his brother, there was still a part of Huey that didn’t want to speak to the blonde either. Which was fine, because she seemed to be avoiding everyone herself as well. And he definitely wasn’t going to burden Louie anymore about all this now that he’s been in recovery. And sure, there was his Uncle Donald and Aunt Daisy, but Huey didn’t want to burden them either. So when he ran into Blossom and she noticed how troubled he looked, that was when he confessed to her on how he’s been feeling. “Not in a long time,” He replied, shaking his head at her. “Plus, I don’t think there’s even time for me to be doing any mediating! If I waste any of it doing that, than who knows what else I would end up missing or worst— who else would end up getting hurt because I wasn’t there!”
@hubertducck said: “My mind is so loud and I'm afraid it’ll never be quiet again.”
It was understandable that Huey felt like that with all that was going on in his family. Louie’s amputation, though of course the hardest on himself, was also hard on his loved ones—for the ones who had been witness to his injury firsthand and those who had not. Huey was facing a particular brand of survivor’s guilt for not being there during the bombing…While a rational mind could recognize that there was nothing he could have done to prevent the attack even if he had been there, and so it was better he had been apart and safe from the danger, that was wasn’t what the trauma and grief involved in such a situation said. Blossom could understand how Huey felt—as the oldest, most responsible sibling in their respective families, it sometimes felt like the weight of protecting their younger siblings (if not the whole world) rested primarily on their shoulders, and when any of them was hurt it was not only a matter of feeling their pain, but a personal failing in keeping them safe.
Not to mention the already near-constant anxiety only being justified and ramped up by the accident. What could happen the next time Huey wasn’t there to keep his brothers safe? That didn’t even touch the fact that all this had happened when Dewey and Webby had been secretly searching for the triplets’ mother, Huey’s anger at Dewey over this, the fact that he was the only one of the four who Louie would talk to for a long time after the incident and had to keep his own angst to himself in the face of Louie’s situation, being strong for him…It was all so much to process. But Huey hardly needed to explain any of it; Blossom understood intrinsically. “I would be more surprised if you didn’t feel like that,” she said, her voice full of empathy. She wasn’t going to say It will get better, because that was a given, but it didn’t help now. Huey was solution-oriented. He needed positive action to take. “Have you tried meditating?”
