Baby’s Favorite Sitter - Junhyung

((A/N: Okay, everyone, prepare yourselves because after updating my blog and changing my handle name, a bunch of my stories that were posted years ago have suddenly disappeared. So I’m going to be reposting them over the next couple of days...this is going to be fun. *sigh*))

Okay…this was not exactly how Junhyung had expected to be spending his Saturday afternoon, the man looking nearly petrified as he stood in the middle of the room, watching his next door neighbor as she zipped around the house in a hurry.

“Aigoo, thank you so much, Junhyung-shi, for doing me this favor. You have no idea how grateful I am and I promise to return it tenfold,” she said breathlessly, stuffing her important documents into her briefcase and hopping to put on her shoes simultaneously, “You only have to watch Bong Soon for a few hours until her regular baby-sitter returns from group study.”

“Okay,” the quiet man answered, glancing down hesitantly at the three year old girl who was busy playing with her toys in front of the television, “…We should be fine.”

“Great! My contact information and emergency contacts are on the fridge as well as the address of where I will be if you need me. She has lunch in about an hour and there’s already a meal in the fridge that just needs to be warmed up. Bong Soon, mommy’s leaving, sweetie! Be good for your oppa, okay? I’ll see you later! I love you!” the woman knelt down to give her baby a kiss on the cheek, pulling a giggle from the child, before she stood up, smoothed down her dress pants and then headed for the door, “Thank you again, Junhung-shi!” And with that, she was gone.

How did Junhyung get himself into these situations?...Kids didn’t even like him.

He took a deep breath, closed his eyes to mentally prepare himself, and then pasted on what he hoped was a warm and inviting smile before turning to the little girl. “Okay, Bong Soon, it looks like it’s just you and me now,” he said while sitting on the floor beside her, “How about we introduce ourselves properly? My name is Yong Junhyung. It’s nice to meet you!”

The child spared him a moment of distracted attention before placing a wooden block in his hands, scrambling to her feet and running away from him. Dejected, Junhyung sighed and hung his head, turning the block over in his hands. He knew that that would be the little girl’s reaction to him- or something to that effect, at least- and wondered why he had any hope at all that this time would be different.

Looking up towards the clock placed on the wall to his right, he noted the time and almost groaned in despair. “Four hours. We only need to be stuck together like this for four more hours and then her regular sitter will be here. We can make it,” he said to himself, taking a deep breath and rising to his feet, “Bong Soon! Where did you go? Are we playing hide and seek?”

No. No, they were not playing hide and seek and Junhyung was finding that four hours felt frighteningly close to four days when taking care of a child that didn’t care for him in the least. The first hour they spent together involved a lot of running, hiding and seeking, but it felt more like a chase than a fun game. Bong Soon screamed whenever she ‘ran’ into Junhyung, but unlike most children, she didn’t start crying. She only turned and bolted in a different direction, taking refuge in another secret hiding spot and prompting Junhyung to go on the hunt for her once more. Finally, close to lunch time, he was able to run her into the living room where he was able to at least keep an eye on her while warming up her food. Lunch was spent in silence, the only noise coming from the television that the child watched with rapt attention, paying no mind to her temporary babysitter that was still trying hard to win her good grace. He couldn’t help but wonder if she treated her regular sitter the same way; if that were the case, he wouldn’t feel so inadequate.

After lunch came nap time and Junhyung was all too happy to put the child down for an afternoon snooze, relishing in the time he would get to himself without feeling self-conscious about whether or not the three year old would accept him. His paradise was short lived for after two hours, the child was up and teetering around as children do, looking for something interesting to occupy herself with and promptly ignoring the rapper once again.

One hour; just one…more…hour.

“Bong Soon, do you want to take a picture with Oppa?” The three year old lifted her gaze from the picture she was drawing to regard Junhyung curiously, staring as he waved his phone in front of her, “Let’s take a picture together! Here, here, here.”

Lowering to sit beside her little drawing table, the man gingerly reached for her and, to his surprise, was able to pick her up and set her in his lap. “Look, ready?” he turned the camera app on and switched it to front view, Bong Soon able to see both her and the man on the screen, “One, two, three.”

Junhyung shot at least two pictures before he brought the phone close to inspect them. “There we are. You look so pretty, Bong Soon, especially when you smile. Why don’t you smile more often for your oppa?”

The little girl stared up at him for a split second, scrambled out of his lap and then ran out of the living room, causing Junhyung to pout and shake his head. It was no use! There was no way to get that child to like him! Her or any kid for that matter! Just as the BEAST member was getting up to give chase, the front door swung open and a voice called through the apartment.

“Hello? Anyone here? Bong Soon, where are you?!”

The little girl squealed at the familiar voice calling for her and came running from the back rooms to launch herself at the woman that now stood in the den, opening her arms wide to receive her. Woman and child embraced, the new visitor swinging Bong Soon around and laughing with an excitement that was obviously contagious for the little girl squealed in delight right alongside her. Junhyung stood off to the side, putting two and two together and figuring that this woman- obviously not Bong Soon’s mother- was her usual babysitter.

His eyes swept over the woman, her fitting figure and pretty hair that matched everything about her. Her smile was captivating, reaching all the way up to her eyes that glimmered with undeniable happiness at the child. She really was a pretty thing…beautiful, actually. His heart nearly skipped a beat when those eyes of hers landed on him suddenly, Junhyung a little startled by the attention.

“You must be Junhyung-shi. Bong Soon’s mother told me that you would be watching this little cutie today. My name is Y/N. It’s a pleasure to meet you!” she introduced herself, giving a bow and then offering her hand, “My study group finished early today, so I rushed over as soon as I could.”

“Ah…yes, hello,” Junhyung greeted back, bowing his head and accepting her hand, about to give it a firm squeeze before restraining himself; her hand was so small and soft, he was afraid to hurt her. “And it’s fine. You really didn’t have to rush.”

He felt embarrassed by his own thoughts, his gaze drifting to the right to avoid giving himself away to the woman. Not that she seemed to notice much for she was soon giving all of her attention back to the squirming child that was whining and pouting now.

“I missed you, Unnie,” Bong Soon mumbled, playing with her sitter’s hair.

“Oh, unnie missed you, too!” the older answered, tickling the child’s tummy and giggling when she squealed and laughed, “But you still had fun today with oppa, right? You were a good girl?”

Bong Soon looked at Junhyung briefly, the man able to catch her bashful nature that he hadn’t noticed before, and then turned back to playing with Y/N’s hair, giving a shy nod. “She didn’t give you any trouble, did she?” Y/N asked while moving to set her things down on the sofa, still holding the child in her arms, “Bong Soon is a well-tempered child, if a bit shy around strangers. I’m sorry if this inconvenienced you.”

“No, it’s fine. I think she just really wanted to be with you,” he reassured her, brushing his fingers along Bong Soon’s arm and smiling at the little girl, unable to help the fact that he so badly wanted to try and get along with her, “Besides, children don’t like being around someone with a scary face, so I understand her not wanting to be around me.”

“Scary? No way!” Y/N retorted, giving him an incredulous look before speaking to Bong Soon, “You don’t think oppa’s scary, do you? He’s actually very handsome, isn’t he?”

Bong Soon avoided eye contact with Junhyung, something he was getting used to, but then surprised him when her little cheeks turned pink and the child nodded her head. “I like oppa,” she whispered, pouting in that adorably shy way that children did and playing with Y/N’s hair, “He’s really nice.”

“Unnie thinks he’s nice, too,” Y/N confirmed, gazing over at Junhyung and smiling before adding, “And I think he’s very, very handsome, too.”

He was stunned and could only stare back at her, his cheeks feeling as if they were on fire and his heart hammering in his chest. The woman before him bit her lips to keep from smiling too big and then turned away to set Bong Soon down on the sofa. “Um…well, I don’t want to keep you from any other prior engagements you might have had for longer than necessary. So, thank you for watching Bong Soon so well. I got it from here and I’ll call her mom to let her know that I’m here now.”

“Oppa’s not staying?!” Bong Soon suddenly exclaimed, her expression turning to one of despair while her big, innocent eyes stared up at Junhyung, “But I don’t want you to go!”

“Bong Soon, we can’t ask him to stay any longer. He might have other things to do.”

“But…” the child started to argue, scrambling down from the sofa and running over to Junhyung, wrapping her arms around his legs, “I want to take more pictures!”

“Ah…w-well…” This was a first for the male, especially after going the past four hours of just trying to get the child to pay him any attention.

“Bong Soon,” Y/N’s voice became stern with a warning, but Junhyung quickly found his tongue.

“I don’t mind,” he said, his eyes locking with the woman’s as he gave her a soft smile, his arms lightly wrapping around Bong Soon’s. “If you’ll allow me, that is. I didn’t have anything else planned today…and I don’t want to disappoint Bong Soon!”

The little girl smiled up at him, the first bright smile that she actually gave him, and Junhyung reveled in it. Y/N grinned at the man and nodded her head, “Well, if it’s not inconvenience to you, I don’t see why not.”

“Yay!” Bong Soon cried, giggling and stomping her feet excitedly, “Let’s play house! I’ll be the baby, oppa will be the daddy and unnie will be the mommy!”

Both Junhyung and Y/N stared in mild surprise at the little girl, avoiding eye contact with each other for the moment. “Pick me up, Daddy!” Bong Soon demanded of the man, holding her arms up to him.

After a moment’s hesitation, Junhyung did as he was ordered to do, reaching down and lifting the child into his arms. Bong Soon then wrapped her arms around his neck, giggling and squealing and making the man’s heart flutter from the attention. He never thought he would see the day that a child would actually enjoy being around him. He also never thought he would see the day that a woman could render him speechless with one little smile.

“Thank you for staying,” Y/N whispered to him, her eyes alight and her lips pulled up happily.

"Did you have a nightmare?" Junji stopped at your words. You felt his hand shake a bit in yours and you silently cursed yourself for not realizing it sooner. "Oh poor baby, come on." You lead him back to the couch, pushing him over gently until he sat down, and picked up the blankets and pillows. You threw the bundle down next to you and settled in next to Junji.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

It had been Wookjin’s idea to take a trip to Jeju for their semester break. The weather was calm, the warm summer breeze rolling over the shore was humid but not unbearably so. Kyubin had dragged Taeyeob with him, his best friend being well known for hiding indoors whenever possible and refusing to socialise, on the excuse that he was going to be lonely since the other five were dating.

The flight had been short, just over an hour, with Kyubin sitting in the window seat, admiring the view of the vast sea and the island in the distance. Taeyeob sat next to him, dressed in an oversized sweater and large, wire rimmed glasses, reading the magazine that had been tucked into the pouch of the passenger seat in front of him.

The sight pulled Kyubin’s eyes away from the window, the way Taeyeob’s long brown hair spilled out of his mustard beanie catching his attention. A haircut had been long overdue but Taeyeob kept putting it off, saying he liked the way it felt, even if it was pretty unkempt most of the time. Kyubin knew that it was just an excuse to avoid going to the salon, their local hairdresser having a habit of divulging in rather personal topics which made Taeyeob’s already introverted self, more uncomfortable.

They had known each other for forever, it seemed like, with their mothers having been best friends growing up and passing that friendship on to them. Kyubin had always been Taeyeob’s favourite hyung, even when their friend group expanded from two to seven over the course of school and college. They were inseparable, joint at the hip from day one and it felt like it was going to be the same till the end, at least Kyubin hoped so.

Stepping off the plane, they huddled together into a van that took them to the small resort by the coastline, the place having been a popular spot for students travelling on a tight budget. They didn’t bother changing out of their clothes before they dropped their bags in their rooms and ran out onto the beach. Throwing their shoes into a haphazard pile, they dug their feet into the sand and breathed in the salty scent of the sea.

Kyubin ran straight into the water, letting the wave’s crash over his feet, while Taeyeob stood a little bit behind, seemingly apprehensive to get wet. Instead of letting him be though, Kyubin bent down, cupping his hands and splashing his best friend, making him shriek. Taeyeob huffed at his friend before taking it as a challenge, joining him in the water in attempts to get his revenge. They ended up falling over in the process, Taeyeob landing squarely on Kyubin’s firm chest as sand clung to their now drenched clothes. The blush that coated their cheeks didn’t go unnoticed by either of them, not that they mentioned it.

It was only when Jisung whined about them falling sick as the sky turned dark and the weather grew steadily colder that they broke out of their little bubble, getting off the ground and heading inside to shower and sleep. Taeyeob called dibs on the hot water, which Kyubin conceded to because he was physically unable to ever say no to the younger. They cuddled in bed as they fell asleep, unbothered by the fact that there was only one bed in the room, their smiles warm and their hearts beating in sync.

Love had been something Kyubin knew as Taeyeob before he learnt the word. It didn’t matter when or how it happened, to him, all he wanted was to be with Taeyeob, in any way he could. Even when the younger grew from a dorky toddler to a charming young man and drew numerous eyes to himself, Kyubin didn’t bother looking elsewhere, even if it hurt his heart to see him with other people.

The following morning, Junhyung managed to get everyone out onto the deck of the resort, ordering an array of fancy looking drinks for a heavy discount after having charmed the bartender with his sharp features and soft voice. Taeyeob stood by the side bar that ran around the deck, red liquid swirling in the fancy glass he nursed in his hand. Kyubin joined him, plucking the cherry that sat in the younger’s glass and pursing his lips around it, making him whine.

With a smirk, Kyubin bit into it before picking up the one in his own glass and bringing it to Taeyeob’s lips, holding it up just out of his range, pulling it away as he chased behind it. Taeyeob lunged at Kyubin to pull the cherry out of his hand just as the elder popped it in his mouth, leaving the younger with his hands wrapped around his neck.

“Hyung,” Taeyeob mumbled as he watched the cherry disappear behind Kyubin’s pearly teeth. Before the elder could quip back at him, Taeyeob pulled him close, joining their lips and pushing his tongue into Kyubin’s mouth, pulling the whole cherry into his own mouth and pulling away triumphantly. Kyubin barely processed what he was doing before he was pulling Taeyeob in for another kiss, the two of them smiling into it, knowing their hearts were in the right place for once.
