You never believed in love. It was never part of your world, ripped from you at a young age. You were a hunter, a soldier against the inhuman creatures inhabiting the world. You lived a cursed life, one that saw more death than any one person should witness. You’ve spent too many years crying over people that were ripped from you and you finally decided to stop caring. No matter what happened, you refused to get close to another human being, and for many years, it worked out for you. If you didn’t care about anyone, your enemies would have no one to destroy.
Although it wasn’t the best, you had accepted that this was your life. Once you become a hunter, there’s no escaping it.
That’s what you always told yourself, what you wholeheartedly believed until he entered your life.
It happened so suddenly that you’re still not sure about the events that had taken place. You had been in Seoul, tracking down a small coven of vampires that had been terrorizing the locals. All of them were sitting in their home just waiting for you to murder them, except for the youngest, who you tracked down to a nightclub several blocks away. You found the vampire in question, about to bite a man that was clearly drunk and unaware of his surroundings. One clean sweep of your hatchet was all it took to end the terror the clan had been spreading.
You had been in similar situations many times before and you had no problem walking away from the victims. There were dozens of people just a few feet away – one of them would eventually enter the back room and find the male, but this time was different.
His eyes were clouded over from the mixture of alcohol in his system and the pheromones injected by the vampire. His hand reached out for your own as he slid down the wall, too inebriated to stay on his feet without assistance. You wanted to walk away like you had done thousands of times before, but your feet would not obey. You couldn’t break your gaze from his.
His plump lips parted, but no sound escaped.
Knowing you were going to regret your decision, you helped him back onto his feet, throwing his arm around your shoulders. It took some patience to get him through the crowd, but you managed, stepping out into the cold night.
“Where do you live?” You questioned, only to grunt when the weight suddenly increased. He nearly hit the ground, but you managed to readjust your grip, setting him against the wall. He was out cold, his chest rising and falling as he slept. With a groan, you repositioned him so he’d fall onto your back. You were seriously regretting your decision now, but it was too late to turn back now.
You struggled to get back to your hotel, which wasn’t too far from the nightclub. A couple people sitting outside looked at you strangely but you just sent them what you hoped was a friendly smile before hastily sliding the keycard into the slot.
Backing up to the bed, you released your grip and let him fall, lightly bouncing on the mattress. He didn’t stir from his slumber. How were you going to explain why he was in a stranger’s hotel room? Whatever, you’d cross that bridge when you got to it.
After that night, there was a little piece of red twine that tied the two of you together. No matter where you went, you would run into Daehyun despite trying your best to avoid him. He was after your heart, and that terrified you. By the time you realized what was happening, it was far too late – you were addicted to each other and neither could get enough.
In the blink of an eye, you had been dating each other for two years. The fear never left you, but Daehyun instilled a small flame of hope in your heart – hope that you could love and be loved, and live a normal life.
This would prove to be your biggest mistake.

From the moment you woke up, you had a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. You didn’t know what was causing it, but you knew something wasn’t right. The unease made you stick to Daehyun like glue, your body on high alert. Being the clingy shit he is, he thoroughly enjoyed being so close to you at all times throughout the day, unaware of the real reason behind your sudden clinginess.
Daehyun poked your cheek, a smile on his lips. “I need to get my makeup done, babe.”
Your grip around him tightened for a moment before you reluctantly released him.
He chuckled, pecking your lips. “I’m not going far.”
Your eyes followed him as he crossed the room, greeting a cordi as he took a seat in the chair. You caught her eyes and felt a chill go down your spine, your heart picking up speed. A sense of dread filled you, one you had become quite familiar with. Swallowing hard, you sucked in a breath, quickly exhaling. Wrapped up in the words was a faint, “Cristo”.
The cordi’s head snapped up, eyes scanning the room. It only lasted for a moment, but her eyes turned completely black, swallowing the sclera and iris.
It felt like your heart stopped.
“Are you okay?” Jongup asked softly, noticing how tense and rigid your body had become, hands turning white as they tightened around your jeans.
“Fine,” you breathed out shakily. “I’m fine,”
He wasn’t convinced, but he let it go, sparing you a worried glance every few minutes.
Daehyun was the last of the boys to get his makeup done, so when the cordi finished with him, she packed the makeup and left the room. He tried to wrap his arms around you, but you pulled away.
“I have to use the bathroom,” you rushed out of the room, running after her. She knew you were following her, but her relaxed pace didn’t change as she entered an unused room, glancing at you as she did so.
Your eyes scanned the area, making sure it was clear before you pulled out your knife. It was infused with salt, holy water, and demon blood. While it couldn’t kill a demon, it would certainly hurt them long enough for you to exorcise them.
You slowly entered the room, closing the door behind you.
She was sitting on a broken stool, her legs crossed as she applied mascara. “You seem a bit young to be a hunter.”
“There’s many that are younger than I am.” You commented, taking a few steps forward but careful to keep your distance.
She sighed dramatically, snapping the compact shut. “I came to Seoul because I heard there were very few hunters here. My luck would lead me straight into one.”
Your grip on the knife tightened. “What are your intentions here, demon?”
She clicked her tongue. “I have a name, human.”
“I couldn’t care less, you’ll be back in hell soon enough.”
Her eyes narrowed, red lips pursing. “Or we could make a deal.”
“Do you really think I’m fool enough to make a deal with a demon?” You scoffed, pointing your knife in her direction. “I’ve been around long enough to know better.”
“Hmm, even if it’s in your best interest?” She smirked, leaning forward. “You wouldn’t want anything to happen to your precious Daehyun, would you?”
Hearing his name triggered something within you and you rushed forward, aiming for her throat. She easily dodged your attack, gripping your wrist so tight that you lost feeling in your hand. The knife fell, clattering against the ground.
“Humans never change. Make them angry and they lose all sense of danger, rushing into their own death.” Her grip tightened for s moment before she shoved you down, the wind knocked out of you. “Calm down, I don’t want to fight.”
“Then what do you want?!” You demanded with a growl, trying to ignore the pain in your wrist.
She pursed her lips, eyes growing distant for a moment. “Peace,”
“…eh?”
“I just want peace. I’ve paid for my mistakes, centuries of paying for them. I made it out of hell, and I won’t be going back anytime soon.” Her eyes bore into your own. “We’re not so different, you and I. We’re both running away from a fate we didn’t want…”
You bit your lip, heart racing. Your mind was screaming at you for even considering such a thing. “What… What are the terms of your deal?”
“We scratch each other’s back. You help me fend off any hunters that happen to pass through, and I’ll help you protect that boy from any creatures that come after him.” She held out her hand, waiting for you to accept.
Your hand shook as it hovered over yours. Making a deal with a demon went against everything you believed in, everything that had been ingrained in you since childhood, but you would do anything to protect Daehyun. “Deal,”
She easily pulled you up, her lips finding yours. “The deal has been sealed. Pleasure doing business with you, human.”
You wiped your mouth with the back of your hand, watching as she headed for the door. “Y/N. My name is Y/N.”
She paused, glancing over her shoulder. “Alera,” And then she was gone.
You took a few minutes to compose yourself before heading back to the boys. It still felt as if your insides were shaking, but at least it wasn’t something others could see.
Daehyun’s eyes lit up when you entered the room and his arms immediately found your body. “I missed you~”
You buried your face in his chest, breathing in deep. His scent invaded your senses, helping to calm your nerves. It didn’t matter what you had done or what hell you would face. All that mattered was the man before you and his happiness.
“I’ll do anything for you, Dae.”
His heart fluttered and he picked you up, your feet hovering over the ground. “I know and I love it! I’ll do anything for you too, Y/N.”
You pressed your lips against his, nipping at his plump lower lip. He groaned in approval.
“Ahem,” Himchan cleared his throat loudly. “Maybe you could wait until AFTER the interview?”
Daehyun broke out in laughter, snuggling his face into your neck. His happiness was pure, tugging at your heartstrings as you ran your hand through his soft hair.

Mistletoe Manor - Part 9
Genre: 1900′s AU/Romance

A/N: Chelle ( @prettywordsyouleft ) and I wanted to create a magical Christmas for everyone and what better way to do that than at Mistletoe Manor! Because of the nature of having several idols, we chose to work with OCs and we hope you love them as much as we do.
Mistletoe Manor will be posted daily at 10am NZST / 4pm EST daily.
“Where are you going?” Joey asked as she arrived at the bottom step, her eyes following her older sister as she carried a box toward the front door.
“We’re making some deliveries for the book drive,” Evie called out from over her shoulder. “Would you like to accompany us?”
Before Joey even had a chance to say ‘yes’ (or ‘no’), Lord Yongguk, who was following behind Evie with a box of his own, paused briefly.
Joey knew she wasn’t even meant to notice it, but... she did. She may be the youngest in the family, but she certainly wasn’t stupid. For the past ten days, Daehyun’s friend had done nothing but make googly eyes at Evie. And Joey had noticed that Evie was now making them right back.
Not now now, but within the last few days.
So, Joey simply let out a soft sigh and said, “No, thank you. You know I can hardly bear such cold weather.”
“Suit yourself,” Evie replied lightly just before she left through the door.
Joey was just about to take the last step down into the entryway when Lord Yongguk quickly glanced over his shoulder and nodded gratefully in her direction.
Her lips curved into a beaming grin, and she bobbed a curtsy in return.
Just after he, too, left through the front door, someone suddenly appeared at Joey’s side.
“Would you like to go for a walk?”
Joey let out a little shriek of surprise, whipping around to see just who --
...She should have known.
“Why are you always sneaking up on me?!” she hissed, furrowing her brow at the enormously irritating valet.
“Maybe you just need to be more observant,” Brian shrugged. “How ‘bout that walk?”
Joey rolled her eyes and lifted her arm to rest her elbow on the stair banister separating them. “Did you not just hear me? I can hardly bear such cold weather. If I refused my own sister’s invitation to go outside, why would I accept yours?”
“You refused her invitation because you didn’t want to intrude on their budding romance,” Brian pointed out with a sly, knowing smirk. “Come on, I’ll get your coat.”
“Wha --!”
But Brian was already on his way to the coat closet by the front door.
Joey tamped down a smirk of her own and hurried after him.
Because, while Brian was enormously irritating... he was also enormously handsome.
“You are truly the most impertinent man -- no, person -- I’ve ever met,” she muttered when she caught up to him. “I did not accept your invitation, nor did I plan to!”
“Then why are you still here?” he asked as he opened the closet door and reached in for her coat. “Why are you turning around and holding your arms back so I can help you into your coat?”
“Just put it on already,” Joey snapped, shooting him a sideways glare.
“Yes, My Lady,” Brian chuckled as he moved to slide the coat onto her shoulders.
She began to button it up, and when she heard Brian close the closet door behind her, she reached back and grasped his wrist. “Come on, let’s go,” she grumbled.
The two of them quietly made their way downstairs to the back door, Brian popping into the servant’s hallway closet to fetch his own coat. And once the door to the outside closed behind them, Joey wasted no time in asking what had been brewing in her mind since he’d mentioned it.
“How do you know they have a budding romance?” she inquired. “Has Lord Yongguk talked to you about her? Is he serious? What about when he has to go home? How --”
“Okay, slow down,” Brian laughed, reaching out and putting a hand on her arm to stop her from asking any more questions. “He has talked about her, but even if he hadn’t, I would still know.”
“How?” Joey asked, her voice a little quieter.
And Brian’s hand was still on her arm.
“Because I know him. He’s not the most... social of people --”
“Evie is the same way,” Joey interrupted.
“So, the fact that he’s been spending so much time with her says enough. He likes her, and from what he’s told me, he likes her quite a lot.”
Joey’s eyes widened a little, and she moved her other hand to place it over his. “What has he told you? What has he said about her?” she asked quietly but eagerly.
Brian leaned in closer to her, and Joey’s heart began to pound inside her chest.
“Well...” he began. Joey held her breath, but then Brian pulled away completely with a lopsided grin. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”
Joey let out a distressed, annoyed cry, her eyes glued to him as he jogged a few feet ahead of her. “Oh, come on!” she cried.
“Sorry,” Brian shrugged after turning around to face her and walk backward. “That’s Earl/Valet confidentiality.”
“That’s not a thing,” Joey retorted, but she knew very well it was. If her ladies’ maid went around telling people what she told her, she would be furious. And very, very embarrassed.
“It is, too!” Brian laughed. “And you’re neither Earl nor Valet, so you don’t get to know.”
His laugh turned from one of amusement to one of villainy, and he spun around on his heel to continue walking ahead of her.
Joey silently fumed, her eyes narrowed as she glared at him. ...Well. At his back.
And then, without giving it another thought, she bent and scooped up a handful of snow. Silently, she packed it into a ball in-between her palms... held the ball tightly in her fist... pulled her arm back...
And launched it right at his head.
A delighted giggle escaped her lips when the snowball splattered perfectly against the back of his head, and Brian’s body jerked in surprise.
“Wha --” he gaped, whirling around to face her again. “Hey!”
Joey was already busy making another snowball.
Just before she stood back up to pack the snow and throw it at him, a very cold, very wet mass hit her face. She would have screamed, but her lips were now crusted with snow, and she didn’t particularly feel like eating it.
Unsurprisingly, she heard Brian laughing, and when she reached up to wipe the snow from her eyes, she saw him practically doubled over.
Good god, he was attractive when he laughed.
“Oh, now you’ve done it,” she announced, quickly packing the snowball still in her hand and throwing it, aiming it for his face, too.
He ducked, of course, and he used the opportunity to make another snowball.
Not even half a minute later, the two of them became engaged in a full-on war.
Joey let out a very unladylike grunt as she threw another snowball in Brian’s general direction. She was currently hiding behind a tree, and if she stuck her head out too far, she knew she would receive a face full of snow yet again.
She hissed a victorious ‘yesssss’ to herself when she heard Brian sputter and groan.
...And then it went quiet.
That was a bad sign.
She held her breath, pressing against the tree and closing her eyes tightly as if doing so would hide her completely from her opponent.
Still, after a few moments, she heard nothing.
So, she opened one eye and peeked around the tree as inconspicuously as she could.
The second she saw past the tree, she heard Brian’s war cry and saw him just on the other side of the tree.
She screamed out of pure fright, though it turned to laughs and giggles as she pushed away from the trunk and made a run for it.
Joey was a bit more athletic than average, but she was still no match for Brian. She heard his thumping footsteps behind her, catching up to her easily, and then all of a sudden he had scooped her up into his arms.
“Stop!” she shrieked with delight, instinctively grabbing onto his neck. “Put me down!”
Brian paused and raised his eyebrows at her. “Put you down? Okay!”
He took a few steps over to a nearby snowbank, and Joey instantly realized her mistake.
He was planning to put her down all right.
Put her down in the snow.
“No, no, wait --!”
Ignoring her protests, Brian unceremoniously dropped her into the snow, right on her bottom. She sank down into the bank, thrashing around and screeching and laughing and cursing Brian.
Before he had a chance to run away, Joey managed to reach her arms out, and she gripped his ankle with both hands. Using all of her strength, she pulled his leg toward her.
And down he toppled, landing right next to her on the ground with a deep ‘ooph.’
“Well,” Brian said as he began to get situated, turning on his side and propping himself up on his elbow. “That’s fair.”
“And all’s fair in love and war,” Joey replied with a single nod.
Brian smirked over at her, reaching over with his free hand to flick some snow at her. “And... which one is this?”
“...What are you talking about?”
“Is this love or war?”
Joey could feel her cheeks start to burn, so she covered it up with a haughty sniffle and a change of subject. “Don’t be ridiculous. Do you think Lord Yongguk will dance with my sister at the Mistletoe Ball?”
“I’m not sure,” Brian chuckled. “He doesn’t really dance.”
“No, neither does she.”
“So, this Mistletoe Ball is really a thing, then?” he asked, still grinning over at her.
“Yes, and you’d better be there,” Joey growled, reaching over to not-so-gently punch his shoulder.
“Ouch!” Brian laughed, though her punch hardly even moved him. “Why had I better be there?”
“So you can dance with me, you imbecile!”
“Why would I want to dance with someone who called me an imbecile?”
“Because I don’t want to dance with you, and I know you won’t be able to resist doing something I don’t like.”
The flash of surprise on Brian’s features was enough to tell Joey she had caught him off-guard with that observation, and she couldn’t help but smile to herself.
But then he simply shrugged and said, “You’re right.”
“Of course, I’m right.”
In the back of her mind, Joey remembered telling her sisters she was sure she could never find a man to match her. A man who would actually come to care for her undesirable disposition.
...She was starting to wonder now if maybe she had.
“Happy Christmas,” Evie said with a soft grin as she waved good-bye to the two small children standing in the doorway.
“Stay warm,” Yongguk told them, and they nodded earnestly. “And happy reading.”
Evie and Yongguk had made four deliveries today, but this one had been their favorite. The family’s two children had never seen a book before, and Evie had just so happened to pack “The Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. They would surely be up half the night bothering their parents to read it to them.
(I say ‘just so happened to’ but, truly, Evie had packed it on purpose. She’d known the family had two children and wanted to give them books they could enjoy both now and later. Yongguk still marveled at how thoughtful and intelligent she was.)
Once the lady of the house thanked them one last time and closed the door to their cottage, Yongguk and Evie turned back to the sleigh.
Snow still covered the ground; in fact, a fresh layer had accumulated overnight, so taking the car to make all of their book deliveries was out of the question. When Seo Joon pulled the sleigh out of the garage, Evie had smiled with delight, and Yongguk’s heart had swelled in his chest.
“All right, Seo Joon, that was the last delivery,” Evie told him as Yongguk helped her back into the sleigh. Once he got in himself and slid onto the bench next to her, he grabbed the blanket and draped it over their laps.
Seo Joon clicked his tongue and jiggled the reins, and the horses began the journey back to the manor.
“Thank you,” Evie said softly as Yongguk leaned over to tuck the blanket underneath her side. It was an intimate gesture, but the freezing temperature warranted it. “Not just for the blanket... but for coming with me.”
“You’re very welcome,” Yongguk murmured in reply. “I helped you start the book drive, it’s only right I help you finish it.”
Evie shot him a bashful grin as he sat back, burrowing his arms underneath the blanket to keep his hands warm.
The two of them sat in comfortable silence for a few moments... but then Yongguk felt fingers brush over his hand. He almost jumped since he wasn’t expecting it, and his heart began to beat just a little bit quicker as Evie slipped her hand into his. She linked their fingers together and brought his arm over into her lap.
Without hesitation, Yongguk scooted over closer to her, squeezing her hand and biting back a very goofy smile.
Again, they sat in comfortable silence for a few moments before Yongguk heard Evie take a breath, preparing to speak.
“This is lovely,” she said in a soft voice.
Yongguk turned to look at her as best he could, now unable to hold his grin back. “Yes,” he agreed, his eyes taking in every inch of her side profile. “Yes, it is.”
A hint of a smile tugged at Evie’s lips, and she turned to look back at him, her cheeks growing slightly pink as she did.
On a whim, Yongguk leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead.
He felt and heard her breath catch as his lips touched her skin, and when he pulled back, he figured she would look away in shyness. But, to his surprise, she simply moved to rest her head on his shoulder.
Yongguk settled in, readjusting his gentle grip on her hand and pressing his cheek to the top of her head.
This was, indeed, lovely. Lovelier than anything else he’d experienced before.
If you had asked Yongguk just two weeks ago if he would be content just holding hands with a girl while she laid her head on his shoulder -- fully and utterly content -- he would have said ‘I doubt it.’
But he knew now that he could be.
He still wanted to hold her and kiss her and marry her and -- do... other... things. You know what I mean.
But right now, sitting here just holding hands while she laid her head on his shoulder.
He was content. Fully and utterly content. He felt like he truly needed nothing more.
“You’ll be attending the Mistletoe Ball in a few days, right?” Evie asked quietly, tilting her head just slightly so he could hear her.
Yongguk hummed positively.
“Will you...” There was a nervous pause before Evie continued. “...Ask me to dance?”
Yongguk’s brow furrowed slightly, and he murmured, “If you would like me to. I confess I am not much of a dancer, but I --”
“I’m not either,” Evie interrupted eagerly. “I’m a perpetual wallflower.”
“Well, then,” he chuckled. “We can be wallflowers together.”
While Yongguk didn’t quite see it, he could tell that Evie beamed. And then she snuggled even more into his side, holding onto his arm and letting out a gentle sigh.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Together.”

Getaway
Summary: when Daehyun springs an island getaway on you, you’re too busy having fun making memories with him to realise there is an ulterior motive to why he took you away on a holiday right now.
Pairing: Jung Daehyun x reader
Genre: fluff / a little bit of angst?
A/N: so I find it really beneficial heal through the written word. This is another one of those moments. Some of the facts shared in this story are from my own personal life, though I know I’m not the only one to suffer from loss and grief. Mine just unfortunately falls on Daehyun’s birthday so here we are addressing some of it! I hope you appreciate this storyline even with the personal addition to it, and enjoy celebrating Daehyun’s birthday with me! I love this man more than anything else in this world.

You stirred when you felt soft kisses upon your neck, your eyelids still heavy against the world, yet you rolled your head over on the pillow so he could have more access.
Daehyun chuckled, the vibration of the gesture against your skin sending a shiver down your spine. Must he sound so delicious first thing in the morning?
His lips painstakingly moved up to your ear before he said, “You have two hours to pack.”
Wait, what?
Sitting up with a start as your boyfriend moved away, you blearily stared at him now placing clothes into his luggage trunk. “Where are we going?”
Daehyun pointed to his empty spot beside you and you turned to see a brochure for an island getaway there instead. Blinking, you leafed through it slowly and then glanced back at Daehyun. “You're kidding?!”
“Do you think I would go to the extremes of packing my own luggage just to trick you?” he asked with a hearty laugh and you gave him a look that only made the joyous sound increase. Pausing his current packing task, Daehyun climbed back onto the bed, reaching for your body and pulling you into his embrace. “I booked everything whilst you were asleep and let your editor know I was stealing you for a week. Everything is ready except you so you need to get up and start moving. We need to be at the airport in just under three hours, and now you have one hour and fifty minutes to pack.”
“We’re really going there?” you questioned in disbelief and Daehyun nodded. “What’s the special occasion?”
“Can’t I escape this dreary wintry weather with you without having a reason?”
You grinned, dashing over to the wardrobe to start sorting out what to take. You didn’t have a second to waste.
It didn’t seem real to wake up with an endless view of the vast blue outside of your beachfront villa but as you stirred from your slumber, you were compelled to pull yourself out of the plush bedding and pad over to the large balcony. Sliding the door open, you stepped outside, amazed by the sight before you. You didn’t know how the locals of this island could start their day without getting lost in the natural beauty all around first. You were certain you could spend all day gazing at this view and not grow bored of it.
Smiling when you felt arms slide around you from behind, you leaned back into Daehyun’s chest as he nuzzled into you. He let out a little huff. “Why did you leave me?”
“I saw the sea. It was already magical last night when the clerk led us over here but waking up and seeing it in daylight bewitched me.”
“Mmm,” he mumbled into you, kissing your shoulder gently. His grip tightened around you and you playfully slapped his arm with how he was choosing to remove the remnants of his slumber. “Maybe the view bewitched me too. You looked like a goddess standing over here just now.”
“I hope you don’t plan on spending the majority of this holiday exploring my body in this bedroom, Daehyun,” you stated disapprovingly, sighing all the same when his lips moved over a sensitive patch of skin. Your head naturally rolled back onto his shoulder with his touch and you cursed yourself for easily falling into the realm of desire he had opened up.
“Of course not,” he replied matter-of-fact, littering kisses in between his words. “But I definitely need to explore you before we head out onto the island today.”
After your sensual start to the day, you went out to see the sights the island bolstered. You walked, you swam, you hiked and you canoed. There was so much to see and do that the next four days were full of activities during the day, grand dinners at night with social festivities and dancing finishing off the hours of the night. You slept exceptionally well, fully rested to rise for another day of adventure with Daehyun.
It wasn’t until you took a quiet day off from travelling around the island exploring that you realised what the date was.
Today was Daehyun’s birthday.
How could you have possibly forgotten your partner’s birthday? You had been with him for years now, and his birthday was hardly a day you could ever forget. It hadn’t been the easiest finding out that the day Daehyun would celebrate each year was one you had learned to mourn over the year before you met him. It was always a troubling time for you yet you never wanted to let Daehyun feel underappreciated either. It wasn’t his fault your father had died on his birthday, and so each year you went overboard to make the day special at least for him.
So how did you forget it this time?
You had been swamped with work, but you recalled starting your birthday planning the day before Daehyun had whisked you away on this getaway. It meant you hadn’t yet picked up all of his special surprises, though you did have his present safely hidden in your at-home office. All the same, not a single day since you had been here had you thought of his birthday, and guilt immediately washed over you for having such a great time being spoiled by him and not linking this special trip as a birthday getaway instead.
As the morning progressed, you retreated further into your mind, worrying over how to make today special enough with the little amount of time you had to prepare something within. You could make something happen for dinner, but it wouldn’t as spectacular had you realised the date yesterday instead. You cursed agreeing to being device-free whilst here and for not even looking on your camera at the date either.
Daehyun picked up on your frantic internalising and after breakfast, he suggested a walk along the beach, allowing you to ruminate for only a few minutes longer before he let out a heavy sigh. “What’s bothering you today?”
“I’m fine,” you lied and you knew he didn’t buy it whatsoever. You grimaced. “You noticed, huh?”
“How could I not? You haven’t been laughing nearly as much as you have every other day this week. I was hoping to hear you laugh the most today, actually.”
You nodded slowly, trying to squash down your ever-present remorse. “Did you plan this trip for your birthday?”
“No, I planned this all for you.”
“For me?” you repeated, confused by his statement. “But Dae-”
“Do you think I don’t see how difficult this time of year is for you every year? I know you try not to let on that my birthday is hard for you, and you really go all out to spoil me. I appreciate your efforts more than anything, you know?”
You couldn’t answer, the lump forming in your throat blocking your ability to speak. You attempted to smile though and Daehyun stopped walking, pulling you towards him so he could wipe away the first tear that tumbled from your eyes. He blinked back his own emotions, pressing on with a wide smile instead. “Every year though, you hide this side to you. When you think I don’t see it, I find you hiding away sobbing alone. As if you don’t feel it’s okay to be sad today too. It really is okay to be.”
“No, I don’t want to be sad on your birthday.”
“But it’s not just my birthday, is it?” he replied and you sniffled, nodding slowly. You still couldn’t understand how you had gotten so lucky to meet someone with such a beautiful and caring soul like Daehyun, but you always believed that your father had sent him to you now that he was gone. To protect and cherish you in his stead.
Daehyun was the most selfless person you knew.
“I wanted us to have fun this year. Away from the usual schedule, leaving the forced smiles and brooding hours behind us. You needed the fresh salty air, the wind in your hair and my hand in yours to remind you that every day is precious and magical. You are the most genuine and relaxed you’ve ever been around this time of year on this holiday. I don’t regret choosing to do this, even if it meant you forgot what today is.”
“You are too much, you know that?” you told him, resting against him and wrapping your arms around his waist securely. You hoped your embrace would show Daehyun just how grateful you were to have him in your life.
You knew he was close to crying now; the way he was breathing was a tell-tale sign. He managed to talk through it still. “I wanted to remove your burdens this year. That was what I wanted for my birthday. And I succeeded. But now that you’re like this, just remember today you can cry in front of me. I’ll catch all your tears. And I promise I’ll try to make you smile just as much as you have all week long. Besides, your Dad would want to see that smile today the most, wouldn’t he?”
You gripped onto his shirt, allowing the first wave of your emotions to crash upon him, Daehyun holding onto you, the anchor within your storm. He was right; it really was freeing to allow yourself to be this emotional in front of him today. When your tears stopped falling, you stared up at Daehyun, a watery smile crossing your lips. “Happy Birthday, Daehyun. I love you.”
“Love you too,” he replied, kissing your lips gently before grinning. “I have to admit, I’m pretty impressed with how I handled this. I did well huh?”
You giggled. “Very well. I’m so lucky to have you.”
“Lucky enough to marry me someday?” he wondered and you froze, unblinking in your gaze up at him. Daehyun’s smile faltered as he noticed your stuck expression.
“Wait, I-”
“Are you proposing right now? Because if so, the answer is yes.”
“Well, I was… well, uh… shoot.” Daehyun rubbed a hand through his hair at your sudden reply and let out an awkward laugh. “I wasn’t exactly proposing, Y/N. I don’t even have a ring.”
“I don’t care about a ring, I have you.”
Daehyun stared at you intently. “You’ll marry me?”
“Of course I would, there’s no one else better for me. I mean, who else plans something for their partner on their own birthday? Of course, I want to marry you.”
“Really?”
“Really!”
Daehyun slowly grinned, a shocked, elated laugh leaving him. “I wasn’t expecting that you would be my birthday gift this year but you can’t take it back now. Ring or not, you just agreed to be my fiancé.”
You laughed genuinely and noticed the smile on his lips was the biggest you had seen all holiday long. Daehyun had definitely succeeded with all of this, allowing yourself to embrace all the emotions of this day was better than trying to plan it out and avoid it.
And whilst you would always honour your emotions of the loss of your father, you now had an extra anniversary to celebrate with your fiancé. You were certain you would smile more every single year at Daehyun’s side on this special day.

๑ aileeI have the privilege of stanning this queen since 2012 and the honour of watching her perform live last year :’) she performed her rendition of I will always love you as well as I will go to you like the first snow and I was completely blown away by how amazing she sounds ;A; her voice is so so powerful and packed with emotions when singing slow songs, with so much energy when singing more upbeat ones. I just really love her (❤ω❤)
๑ daehyun (B.A.P)another one I stan since 2012 :’) dae pretty much won me over with just his voice alone, and I don’t really know how to describe why I love it so much? his voice is so smooth and can be husky as well, and as much as I love how he hits the higher notes I love it when he sings in the low register. coffee shop is my all-time favourite bap song and I really really love his voice there tbh. dae was my favourite vocalist for the longest time but :’) yeah
๑ jung seunghwanthis squish is so so so so so good at delivering emotions. I think you can almost see a pattern on what type of voices I like haha but seunghwan really has the ability to turn any song sad (e.g. PICK FREAKING ME) and his voice is just really soothing and calm ♡( ◡‿◡ )

๑ boo seungkwansix months ago I probably wouldn’t have thought this, but boo seungkwan is really my favourite vocalist. a bold claim to be honest, but to me seungkwan’s charm really lies in how amazing he is at singing and delivering emotions. I’ve always known that he was good, but I didn’t know how good until I listened to his performance on King of Mask Singer and I just. cannot. believe. how good he is. from his runs and transitions between chest and head voices, to how he can really jam pack such emotion in each and every note he hits is beyond amazing, but it’s not just a one-hit wonder because the more I listen to other covers and songs he does, you can tell that seungkwan is really born to sing. his talent is just out there but you can tell that he works hard to be able to sing on this level, and honestly I can go on further about how much I love his voice (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡

Lost in Memories
Summary: You are about to move to a new home with your husband Yoo Youngjae when you discover your old diary from years ago. Reading through the entries of the diary, you find yourself lost in the memories of your first love, Jung Daehyun. Pairing: B.A.P Jung Daehyun x Reader

“(Y/N), are you ready? The moving van is waiting!”
“Yes, Youngjae, I am coming right now!” I picked up the last box in the house. Inside were a lot of my personal belongings that I did not want to be crushed inside the big truck with all the furniture and bigger boxes – my husband Youngjae had already lost his favorite floor lamp which was not properly wrapped and fell to the ground.
In my haste, I forgot to seal the box I was carrying and heard an object fall to the floor. With a sigh, I put down the box and reached for the item that had fallen out. My heart skipped a beat when I realized what it was: my old diary which I hadn’t read in years. Although Youngjae was waiting for me outside, I could not resist to open the notebook that was so familiar and strange to me at the same time. “Dear Diary, you won’t believe what I am about to tell you!! Jung Daehyun, the boy I have liked since middle school, has confessed to me today!” I did not need to read on for my mind to be flooded with memories. That day, a cold and rainy day in March, I went to high school like usually. I did not expect anything out of the ordinary to happen, but after class, Daehyun asked me to go on a walk with him. For a moment, I thought he was joking. Who would want to be outside in such bad weather? He was serious though. Daehyun and I had been friends for a long time: I met him in middle school and since we both liked the same kind of music, we soon started to hang out. Something about his humorous, careless and bright personality made me fall for him in no time. I could hardly believe my luck when we both passed the entrance exam for the same high school. Since then, we had been very close.
After I agreed to go on a walk with him, he suddenly became quiet. No matter what topic I started – even his favorite one, food – I could not get more than a few words out of him. When the two of us were crossing a bridge, Daehyun suddenly stopped and turned his back towards me. “(Y/N)… There is something I want to tell you. I can’t stand it anymore. You are my friend, but I hate it.” That’s it. He wanted to end our friendship. Was there something I had done wrong? Did he find new, better friends? Or was I simply not good enough for him anymore? “The truth is… I like you. I have liked you for a while now, but I did not realize it until now,” Daehyun said and turned around. His eyes were boring into mine, full of determination now. “I will treat you well, take care of you and stay by your side, always. There is no one else who understands and supports me the way you do. Please, (Y/N), will you be my girlfriend?” I was left speechless. I slowly raised my hand to squeeze my cheek and check if this was another of my stupid dreams. My face hurt. But how could this be real? Daehyun had been popular with girls for as long as I could remember, and only a few weeks ago he broke up with his girlfriend. Still in shock, I nodded my head ever so slightly. Daehyun beamed at me, and the next thing I remembered were his strong arms wrapping around me and pulling me towards his chest. “Thank you… thank you!”, he whispered. “I know I have been a fool not realizing that the girl I want the most had been standing right in front of me the entire time. It took me three terrible relationships to find out.” A faint smile appeared on my face. How full of hope and innocence I had been back then! I turned a few pages of my old diary and found another entry: “Dear Diary, I just returned from a date with Daehyunnie. You could never guess where he took me: the ferris wheel at the fair in the center of the city! Have you ever heard of the saying that when you kiss a person when the passenger car is at the very top, you will stay together forever?”
That’s right. My first kiss.
I remembered my excitement when I was getting ready for my boyfriend to pick me up at the café across the street of my apartment. Should I wear a pretty dress? Or a cool pair of jeans and a sweater? It was so hard to decide! In the end, I settled on a blue dress and white cardigan - something cute yet comfortable. I did not have time to change again anyway. The ringing of my phone made me startle, and I quickly ran down the stairs and saw Daehyun who was already waiting in front of the coffee shop. “D-daehyun!” I smiled at him nervously. Although we had been together for almost three months now, my heart was still beating fast whenever I saw him. “You look beautiful, (Y/N)” Daehyun took my hand and led me down the street. I had no idea where we were going since my boyfriend had kept it a secret. I did not bother to ask because I knew he liked to surprise me. Fortunately, I did not have to wait for too long to find out where we were heading: the huge ferris wheel of the fair could be seen from far away and I could easily guess that the fair was our destination. With a guy like Daehyun, it is nearly impossible not to take the scariest and wildest rides. Only when I suggested to sit down for a few minutes did he get the hint that I had had enough for today. “But, we haven’t gone to the ferris wheel yet! Can we pleeease go?” Seriously, his puppy eyes were irresistible. And the ferris wheel was probably the least action-packed ride anyway. Therefore, I practically did not have a choice but to agree. I did not regret entering the passenger car. Nobody could see us up there, and I felt free of all worries. There was only Daehyun and I. I rested my head on his shoulder and enjoyed the beautiful view of Busan. The sun was just beginning to set – our timing to go on this ride had been perfect. “(Y/N), you have something on your nose. Here, let me wipe it away for you.” Instead of doing so when I turned to him, Daehyun put my hands into his and leaned forward. Before I knew what was going on, his soft lips brushed mine ever so gently. I felt butterflies rising in my stomach and wished that this kiss would never end. I could have sworn that I had never felt as happy as in this very moment.
Even now, many years later, the memories were as fresh as if I had gone to the fair only yesterday. Things between Daehyun and me had seemed perfect back then. Every day, I woke up with a smile on my face. Can you believe that I was even excited to go to school? I really was in love. But things were not meant to stay that beautiful forever. An entry towards the end of my diary recalled the time when our relationship started to gradually fall apart.
“Dear diary, I think that something is wrong with Daehyunnie. He has been very quiet the last few days, and not even music and food could cheer him up. I wonder if something happened to him. The bad thing is, he won’t tell me what is bothering him!” It was me who suggested to meet in the café across the street. Only recently, the leaves on the trees had begun to turn colorful and the wind started to blow cold air into people’s faces when they were out on the streets. That’s why I thought that it might be a good idea to meet in a place where it was warm and cozy. I was sure that Daehyunnie would be open with me once we started talking over a hot cup of coffee and some cheesecake. I bobbed up and down on my toes, looking left and right, trying to spot my boyfriend in the crowd. I had already been waiting for 20 minutes, and I was afraid that he was not able to find the café. How odd – he usually did not run late. By now, my feet and hands were freezing cold, and I could not stand the fall weather any longer. With a sigh, I reached for the door knob and entered the small but pretty coffee shop. I went to the counter and ordered two caffè lattes, as well as a piece of cheesecake.
After the waiter handed me my drinks and cake, I sat down at a table in the far corner of the room. Another 10 minutes passed until, finally, Daehyun’s familiar head appeared at the door. When his eyes found mine, he quickly made his way to my table. “I am so sorry, I was caught up in something,” he apologized and I could tell that he was distracted. I only gave him an understanding smile and gestured him to sit down. Without a word, he reached for the cheese cake and started eating.
Trying to start a conversation, I asked: “Have you seen the movie posters outside? There is this new action movie that is coming out soon, and I was wondering if you still wanted to see it together. I heard that there are still tickets available for this Saturday.” “Mh, sure”, was all I could get out of him. I waited for him to reply something, but Daehyun only ate his cheesecake. He did not even look at me. I could not hold it in any longer, and I blurted out: “Hyunnie, I know something is wrong. You haven’t really talked to me in a week, and whenever I start a conversation, you either avoid the topic or don’t answer. At school, you don’t focus in class and even your friends say that you seem out of it these days. I tried everything to cheer you up – take you out for dinner, help you with school work, I even wrote you little notes every day. But nothing will work! I am worried about you. You know, I am always here to listen to you. No matter what it is – even if you killed someone – I won’t turn my back on you!” At my last sentence, his eyes lightened up a bit and he chuckled. “No worries, (Y/N). I did not kill anyone.” “What is it then? What makes you so distracted that you won’t even talk to me? Didn’t we promise that we would always tell each other when something is wrong?” I looked at him with sad eyes. Daehyun sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “It’s nothing… I guess I have just been stressed with school work recently. You know that college entrance exams are coming up, and we have to prepare for them soon.” I nodded at him, being aware that he only told me part of the truth. There was something more, something I just could not get out of him. I didn’t have a clue what it could be, but it had to be something very, very serious.
I swallowed hard after I had finished reading. Something inside of me stirred, as if awakened from a long slumber, but I could not identify the feeling. I slowly turned to the last page of my diary. I knew perfectly well what was written on it. “Dear diary,
Today is the most terrible, disgusting, sick and desperate I have ever felt in my life. I don’t even have the strength to write a full entry. Daehyun broke up with me.”

These few words on my phone screen made me get goosebumps. Since Daehyun and I had talked in the café, the situation between the two of us had not changed much. He was as quiet as ever, and I had given up on cheering him up. Now, I simply showed him that I was there if he needed me. The fact that he wanted to meet where my parents could easily see him made me even more uncomfortable. I jumped up from my bed and quickly threw on a thick sweater and hat. It was almost winter now, and I did not want to catch a cold. My mother asked me where I was going, and I replied that I only wanted to go down to the convenience store across the street to get a few vitamins. She wouldn’t mind anything that helped me study better. When I arrived at the door, Daehyun was already waiting for me. The blank look on his face made me get an ominous feeling. As soon as I came to a halt in front of him, he started to speak: “My parents know.” “Know about wha-…”
“Us.”
I didn’t know what to say. At the beginning of our relationship, Daehyun and I had agreed to not let our parents know since they might object to us being together. I finally whispered: “H-how did they find out?” “It doesn’t matter. What’s important is that they are against our relationship. They want me to break up with you and focus on studying. Otherwise…” “Otherwise what?” “They will send me to study abroad in America. And I would not be able to fulfill my dream of becoming a singer.” My lips began to tremble and tears started to well up in my eyes. “S-since when?” My voice sounded like the voice of a stranger. “They discovered about two weeks ago. At first, I thought that I could just continue to keep it a secret like I had done before. But they read our messages and got very angry. Then they came up with the idea to send me to America… I am so, so sorry.” By the time he finished his explanation, tears streamed down my face and my body was shaking. I just stood there, my mind blank. “Hey, (Y/N)… Look at me. Please don’t cry” My boyfriend raised his hand to cup my cheeks, but I flinched. I couldn’t believe he was so calm in this kind of situation, as if he had never cared about “us”. I finally managed to raise my head and stared at him in disbelief. “Don’t cry? You expect me not to cry?! You are such a fool, Jung Daehyun! I love you and care about you more than anything else in the world, and you tell me not to cry when I am about to lose you?” I was almost screaming now, but I could not care less that my parents and neighbors could potentially hear me. I took a deep breath. I yanked off the necklace he had bought me a few months earlier, when we were still the happiest couple on Earth. A thousand things I wanted to say buzzed around in my head, but I could not bring my tongue to move. It must have been an eternity that I simply stood there, staring at the man I was still so much in love with. I felt bad for blaming him since it was not his fault that his parents had found out. I was shocked and angry at the situation in general. We should have been more careful, we should have met in less crowded places, we should have done everything differently. Now, there was no way to change the situation. I did not want him to leave for America. I knew how much he wanted to become a singer, and I would never be good enough for his parents anyway. Very likely, my parents would have reacted in the same way. For some reason, I could neither calm down nor bring myself to say something, anything. I averted my eyes from the face that I had learned to pick out of a crowd of hundreds of people and that would always bring a smile on mine when I saw it. I stomped away into the dark night, not sure where my feet were taking me. I slowly closed my diary. I took a few deep breaths, staring into nothing. On the day Daehyun broke up with me, I considered killing myself. Jumping down a bridge, swallowing pills or cutting my veins with a needle. Fortunately, these thoughts only passed my mind for a short time and I came to my senses quickly after. Nevertheless, I cried for days, and my parents were seriously worried about me. I did not eat, I did not sleep, I did not meet friends. All I did was studying like crazy and playing the violin. Music and my dream to attend Seoul’s best university kept me going.
Most unbearable had been going to class and seeing Daehyun sitting in front of me every day. Although he had tried to talk to me several times, I ignored and avoided him completely. I had still loved him, and seeing him tore my heart into pieces every single time. It took a very, very long time for me to recover. “(Y/N), what is taking you so long? Come on, the moving truck won’t wait for you forever.” My husband’s voice tore me from my thoughts and pulled me back into reality. “Sorry, I am coming right now!” I hastily put the diary back into the box I had put down. This time, I made sure that I closed the packet securely. Youngjae was waiting for me in the doorway and frowned worriedly when he saw me coming down the stairs. I gave him my warmest smile. Lots of time had passed since my relationship with Daehyun. I went to the university of my dreams, got a good job in a private company and fell in love again. Right now, Youngjae was the most important person in my life and I couldn’t be happier. We were about to move into a bigger, better home and even talked about starting a family. Still… the memories of your first love will stay with you forever and will never completely stop to be part of you.
