June brushed her hair back across her shoulder and fixed Fitz with a withering glare. If it wouldn’t have jostled Clem, who was sleeping soundly between the two, socked feet printed with Bluey characters resting in Fitz’ lap, she have reached over and lightly punched his shoulder. But she settled for a scowl instead so as not to wake her little sister.

“Sorry,” she piped up, exaggerated confusion etching itself onto her face. “Are you comparing yourself to Hugh Grant right now? You’re saying that you’re the Hugh Grant of motorsport?”

Her eyes darted back over to the TV screen where the actor in question was romancing Julia Roberts, who did indeed seem to be falling for his English charm. June wanted to scoff at the predictability of it all, but she had been the one to insist that they watch Notting Hill when Fitz showed up at her door, a bag of her favourite brand of popcorn in hand. If she turned her nose up at it now, then she would reek of “the lady doth protest too much” and Fitz would see right through her little facade. And then he would question it.

When he opened his mouth again, probably to say something annoying and charming, she threw a hand out to shush him.

“Wait, wait, wait, this is my favourite part!” she insisted, her voice a loud whisper.

She hid her grin behind the sleeve of her sweater, loose wool tickling her lips as Will Thacker declared that “the readers of Horse and Hound will be delighted”. God, maybe she wasn’t as immune to the charms of a British man, as much as she pretended to be. Especially if the way she’d taken to listening to ‘London Boy’ by Taylor Swift a lot more lately. Shooting Fitz a sideways glance, she tried to suppress the sudden fluttering behind her breastbone, but just like all the times before when she’d tried to put that same sensation to bed, she only succeeded in feeling it more strongly.

“Anyway,” she said, the butterfly wings turning jagged and sharp. She pulled her legs up to her chest and forced a tone of nonchalance into her voice. “What American girls are you trying to impress? ‘Cause Corey’s gone on Whitefield if you’re chasing her skirt as well.”

Fitz: It's about bloody time I stopped wasting your time and just suck it up and move on. Fitz: I always knew I wasn't good enough for ya, Perry. I guess I just never quite had the courage to stop being so fucking selfish. Fitz: All good, though. Fitz: No doubt you'll find another fella who'll be worth your time. Someone who doesn't piss you off on a minute by minute basis. Or maybe not even a bloke, what do I know? Fitz: I'm flying back to London tomorrow. SHOWS BIKINI KILL PLAYED WITH NIRVANA

yeah we all know bikini kill played a crucial role in aspects of nirvana. despite the fact that they're often very simply watered down to Kurt Cobain having a crush on Tobi Vail and (good fucking lord) Kathleen naming Smells Like Teen Spirit, it's not often talked about how Kathleen, in her feminist art space Reko Muse, hosted some of earliest shows, and is even the venue featured on their first 1989 album cover, Bleach. in media, often overlooked as well is how Kurt himself had been a very outspoken feminist and supporter of the emerging Riot Grrrl scene and its bands. you can find more on that under this blogs 'kurt cobain' tag🥰

Summary:

Having served with Claire as a nurse in WWII, Isla went with Claire and Frank to Scotland to see her mother’s home country. Her aunt Mrs.Baird told her stories of the stones and both Isla and Claire went to see for themselves the magic of the place. Neither expected to be transported 200 years into the past, nor did they expect to fall for rough and ruggedly handsome highlanders.

Will the women get back to their time and the loved ones they left behind, or will they fall too deeply into the strong arms of our favorite Fraser men?

Prologue: A summary of the altered story before chapter 1

Having fallen through the stones Claire and Isla wonder through the Forrest in search of the road to Inverness, only to be cornered by a man who looks like Frank Randall. As Claire is pinned to a tree about to be assaulted, Isla raises a jagged rock to strike Black Jack over the head, only to have a large bearded man beat her to it.

With Black Jack unconscious the women are whisked away by the bearded Scott to a cabin not far away. The room is full of more rugged Scotts, one of whom is injured, Claire steps forward to relocate the young red headed man’s shoulder while she swears like a sailor. The women then introduce themselves, Claire by her maiden name and Isla by her own name.

After the man is bandaged up, the women then are forced on horseback, Claire with the redhead named Jamie and Isla with Murtagh, the bearded man who found them. The ride is long, cold and wet, forcing them to share the tartan with their riding partners. In the middle of the night Claire recognizes the ambush location and warns the men, who dislodge the women form their saddle and tell them to hide. The men fight and find the women, continuing their journey to the castle.

When they arrive the next morning Claire and Isla are introduced to Mrs. Fitz, Murtagh’s aunt, who shows Isla her room and helps Clair clean Jamie’s wounds. Once dressed properly, the women are taken to meet the Laird, Colum Mackenzie, and are interrogated. Claire tells a tale of a widowed woman on her way to relatives in France, while Isla told a version of the truth, that she is a friend simply traveling with Claire on her journey. Colum still having doubts interrogates them at dinner and then holds them as “guests” for an undecided amount of time.

While held hostage, of a sort, Claire is made healer of the clan and keeps busy with herbs and tonics. Isla spends her time looking after Colum himself, having some experience with disfigured limbs and a decent understanding of his, not yet diagnosed, condition. Colum being very grateful, due to his decreased pain, allows Isla more room to explore the castle and spend time with Mrs.Fitz and her family.

When the time comes for the rent party to leave, Dougal, Colum’s brother, requests both women to accompany the party as insurance that Claire wouldn’t run away while on the road.

Just realised that Fitz and Keefe are basically the same as F1 brocedes (It's a thing, look it up). They both had an unbreakable bond that got broken during a fall out and there was one person in between trying to fix that bond and now they're friends again but they'll never have the same bond as they did before. The only difference is that Keefe and Fotz didn't have their falling out over a world championship title...

june/fitz + “basically, you’re fucked, aren’t you?”

Fitz sighed, his fingers combing indelicately through his hair as he pushed it back and out of his eyes. It was becoming a problem, actually – the bloody hair. He’d been growing it out for a few months now, though he’d never be caught dead admitting just why. In truth, he enjoyed the simplicity of a buzzcut. It was easy, manageable, and it never got in his way.   But then he’d kissed June.  That very first time her lips had found his, he’d found himself elated in a way that was impossible to quantify. The way her eyes had fluttered shut, lashes brushing against her perfect, rounded cheeks. He’d wanted to scream from the rooftops, start doing somersaults, and use posh dickhead words like jubilant and rapturous to describe just how giddy she’d made him feel. And then along came her hands, sliding past the glow of his flushed cheeks, sliding into his too-short hair.  It hadn’t been a conscious decision, not to begin with, but he’d made a silent vow to grow it out after that. To June something to hold onto, should she deign to kiss him even just once more. Of course, the state of his floppy hair was hardly the point right now, but it worked as a momentary distraction from the truth of their situation.  “I dunno,” he shrugged, offering here a feeble smile.   He knew he’d worked himself up into an ideal situation. Sticking by Harrison and his cronies for all this time had never been an ideal scenario for Fitz, but particularly now that he was growing closer to June. He knew that Harrison disapproved – just as he knew June didn’t give a flying fuck what her tosspot of a brother thought about who she kissed – but both Keeley and June alike had shared their concerns over what it might mean for his future in the industry.  The truth was, Fitz didn’t have a whole lot of fucks left to give. He’d never been confident about his role as a Driver, had never felt overly welcomed by the community nor the fans. In truth, he just didn’t bloody enjoy the sport and had spent an embarrassing amount of time wishing he could find some sort of loophole to cut himself free.  So, if Harrison wanted to rain hell down on Fitz for doing something as scandalous as falling for his sister, then fuck it.  “Maybe not? Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe if I take a step back, cut my losses, and leave... I get to be fuckin’ happy,” he shrugged.  He reached out, his fingers skimming the edge of June’s thigh and up past her hips before settling his hand against her waist. He pulled her in gently, his hand sliding up her shirt as before settling at the small of her back.  “You get to race. I get to call it a day... And, well, I get the girl too, so. Seems like a win/win to me.”

Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw entered The Hard Deck beach bar, removed and hanged his aviator sunglasses on his shirt as he walked straight to the counter, and ordered a beer. His forehead was slightly covered in sweat from the heat so he pressed the cold glass against it and sighed with shut eyes after taking a much needed sip. He placed it back on the counter and looked out the window to realize that the sun was about to set.

“Hey, Roos.”

Bradley’s head turned instantly at the sound of his pilot call sign and his brown eyes landed on the night shift bartender who was sitting at the piano and smiling at him. The smitten young man’s heartbeat inevitably stuttered before he tried to greet her back.  

“Hey-” Was all he could say because he moved his hand and almost knocked his glass over.

He managed to grab it in time only spilling a few drops on the counter.

“Ah, shit!” He whispered as he reached for a few napkins to clean up.

He tugged on one but several napkins came out, seemingly attached to one another, so he fumbled with them and ultimately used way more than necessary to clean up in a rush. He showed her an embarrassed smile as he finally approached her and ignored his drink.

“You’re a bit clumsy for a pilot, aren’t you?” She teased.

“I swear I’m not. I’m just having one of those days.” He lied.

She didn’t know that she made him incredibly nervous, nothing else in the world did, not even the many planes he had flown.

“You’re early, today.” He said, changing the subject and casually leaning against the piano.

“I came to collect my last paycheck before my two week break, and I’m just… making time, pretending like I can play.”

She then placed her hands on the keys and brought to life a few notes while humming along with the ballad while Bradley studied her; her hair and her lips in the dying sun’s golden light. He was pulled out of his trance when she let out a chuckle and stopped playing.

“I knew a couple songs but I have really bad memory.”

Bradley took this as an opportunity to sit next to her on the piano bench and he looked into her eyes.

“I can teach you if you want.”

“Why don’t you play something?” She asked.

Bradley re-adjusted himself on his seat and gladly did as he was told. She smiled and gave a nod once she recognized the tune. He instructed her which chords to harmonize with and they sang until they screwed up and started laughing. Bradley stared at her, enjoying the sight of her happiness. The majority of the TOPGUN academy pilots visited the bar often and more than one had mentioned her looks and their desire to ask her out ever since she started working there, but Bradley, from the first moment he laid eyes on her, felt an attraction that he couldn’t describe. So strong it made him incapable of even flirting with her like all the others did, but he also self-sabotaged thinking that perhaps she was way out of his league.

But now that he knew she’d be absent for two weeks and they were practically alone in The Hard Deck, Bradley understood that there would be no greater opportunity to ask her out then right in that moment, so he cleared his throat.

“Hey, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you.”

She glanced at him with a curios look on her face.

“I’m listening.”

“W-well, I was… I was wondering if- uh… if you’d like to-”

But Bradley was abruptly interrupted when the doors burst open and in walked boisterous Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin joking with other fellow pilots. The moment vanished instantly and Bradley just rolled his eyes as Jake approached them.

“Well, well, well…” Hangman began with an ironic grin. “I gotta say playing the piano at bars suits you, Bradshaw. Being a pilot? Not so much. You should consider changing career paths. It’s never too late, buddy.”

“Oh, I wish I could say the same but, Hangman, buddy, you can’t even play.” Bradley retorted.

Jake’s smile faded as he rolled his eyes but he got closer and looked at Bradley’s crush while offering one hand to her.

“You ready, babe?”

Bradley watched with a furrowed brow and narrowed eyes as she placed her right hand on top and stood up to kiss Hangman on the lips. He wrapped one arm around her waist, his hand unnecessarily close to her butt but he stared at Bradley when they pulled away.

“Let’s go. We don’t want Rooster to miss his tips. Need a Styrofoam cup?”

She smacked him in the arm as they left but she glanced over her shoulder at Bradley with an apologetic smile.

“Bye, Rooster.”

He just waved at her and watched them walk out of the bar before letting his head hang low with a defeated sigh.

“Ah, Hangman, you’re a pain in the ass.” He muttered under his breath. “Of course she’s dating him.”

It was impossible for Rooster to know, but the imminent summer was about to bring an interesting turn of events.
