Kötü bir diziydi diyebilirim. Biraz karamsar yaklaşacağım ama basit bir diziydi. Bu daha doğru bir tabir oldu. Kötüden ziyade basit bir diziydi. No Ae-Jung( Song Ji-Hyo) genç yaşlarda kızı olan bekar bir annedir. Bir film şirketinde yapımcı olarak çalışır. Ajans sahibi kaçıp gidince alacaklılar imza sahibi olduğu için Ae-Jung ‘un peşine düşer. Alacaklılardan biri de mafyatik Koo Pa-Do(Kim Min-Jun)’dur. Bu korkutucu yakuza kılıklı adam tepesine çökünce Ae-Jung durumu kurtarmak için ünlü bir yazarın kitabını senaryolaştıracağını ve buradan gelen para ile borcunu kapatacağını söyler. Enteresan bir tesadüf ile de Ae-Jung’un kızı ile mafyatik Pa-Do’nun oğlu aynı sınıftadırlar. Veli toplantısında ortaya çıkar ki ikili çok yakın arkadaş olmuşlardır. Oğlu zorbalığa uğrarken kız onu korumuştur. Mafyanın oğluna da zorbalık yapılması bir tık manasız gelmedi değil. Neyse..

Bir şekilde çekilmesi istenen kitaba karar verilir. “Aşk yok” adlı kitap için yazarı Oh Dae-O(Son Ho-Jun) ile iletişime geçilir. Dae-O bu kitabı üniversitede neden bittiğini bilmediği ilişkisi üzerine yazmıştır. O zamanlar çok yakın arkadaşı olan Ryu Jin(Song Jong-Ho) ise ünlü bir oyuncudur. Yıldızı parlak, önü açıktır. Ve efendime söyleyeyim; yazar bey yapımcımızın eski sevgilidir. Üç arkadaş bu ayrılıktan sonra hiç görüşmemişler. Yaşanan bu mafyatik olaylardan sonra mecburen yazarı ikna etmesi gerekir. Ve bunun çözümünü de neden ayrıldıklarını söyleyeceğine söz vermekte bulur.

No Ha-Nee(Um Chae-Young),  Ae-Jung’un kızıdır. Galiba ortaokul ayarında bir yaştaydı. Okula kızını almaya geldiği bir gün sınıf öğretmeni ile tanışır. Birde bakarlar ki öğretmen Oh Yeon-Woo(Koo Ja-Sung)’da aynı üniversiteden ama bir alt sınıftan çıkmasın mı? Annesi ile öğretmeninin isminin yazılı olduğu bir defter bulan Ha-Nee’de bu durumdan şüphelenmeye başlayınca “benim babam kim” sorusunu kazık kadar olduktan sonra sormak aklına geliyor.

Ve sonrası… mafyatik adam, yazar, öğretmen ve oyuncu potansiyel baba adayı oluyorlar. Dizide üç farklı hikaye ilerliyor. Biri Ha-Nee’nin babasının hangi adam olduğunu bulma planları. İkincisi erkeklerin Ae-Jung’u elde etme çabaları. Üçüncüsü ise, Ae-Jung’un kitabı filme çekmeye çalışmasıydı. Ve bonus hikaye de geçmiş ilişkileri neydi sorusu diyebiliriz.

Kısaca özetlersek dizi bu kadar. Couple on The backtrack dizisinde sevemediğim Son Ho-Jun’ı burada sevdim. Song Ji-Hyo ise ilk kez izlediğim bir isim oldu. Hwang Jung-Eum’a çok benzettim. Sanki Jung-Eum bağırmayınca Ji-Hyo’a dönüşüyormuş gibiydi benim gözümde.

Love Next Door

Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu have been inseparable since childhood, but when Seok-Ryu returns to Korea after years in the United States, Seung-Hyo begins to realize his deeper feelings for her.

There will be spoilers so only read if you have seen the show!

When this show was announced, I was really excited. I'm a fan of Jung Hae-In, who plays Choi Seung-Hyo, and I was eager to see him in another romance series. While much of Love Next Door was enjoyable, it did have some major issues.

The biggest problem is that Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu, played by Jung So-Min, are not a good couple. They’re manipulative and, at times, toxic to each other. Choi Seung-Hyo could see that Bae Seok-Ryu was going through a lot, yet he still pressured her to confess her feelings for him. At times, it felt like she didn’t even want to be with him.

When her fiancé came from the United States to Korea to win her back, she seemed open to it at first. But then Choi Seung-Hyo made her feel guilty for having those feelings. In the end, it was a relief that she didn’t end up with her fiancé, especially when you learn the real reason she called off the wedding, but Choi Seung-Hyo handled the situation like a child.

Once they started dating, Choi Seung-Hyo moved way too fast for her comfort. She wanted to keep the relationship secret, which was valid, but he rushed to propose to her—right after she had just ended a long relationship with Song Hyeon-Jun and barely agreed to start dating him. Why would he ask her to marry him so soon?

And don’t even get me started on Bae Seok-Ryu’s mother. Her relationship with her family is terrible, she constantly makes Seok-Ryu feel awful, and even when Seok-Ryu figures out what she wants in life, her mother still doesn't support her.

All that said, the acting was good, but the writing was painfully bad at times. There are so many toxic relationships in this show that it was hard to watch. I did love Jung Mo-Eum and Kang Dan-Ho’s relationship—they were adorable and seemed to genuinely love each other.

I really hated the ending too. While I’m glad Bae Seok-Ryu ended up pursuing what she loves, the show closes with them arguing about their house, which made it feel like their relationship was doomed anyway. That’s not a great way to end it.

Weak Hero Character Names

For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.

Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. You can find amost of these on their character profiles on the Weak Hero fandom page, but I figured people would appreciate having a quick reference that is all in one place. A Hard Call--Myung-gil had known he’d lose some men assailing Choi Tae-ho’s house, which was almost a fortress, but he hadn’t thought he’d have to kill any of them himself.

At first glance, since I went in reverse chronological order, the main trend I immediately notice is that I've been writing longer first sentences lately. I think that's pretty immediately obvious if you just glance at this list. Some of the shorter ones (chasing their own fantasy, a shared punishment, A Small Black Puppy, Loaded Unloaded) are even their own separate paragraph.

However. Reverse chronological order of posting/updating is deceptive. "A White Snake" was posted recently, but I actually wrote it in September; "A Hard Call" was updated recently, but its first chapter was posted in October, and even then, it's a follow-up on a fic I wrote even longer ago. So... it's more like I usually write short first lines, but occasionally I do go longer, without much of a chronological element.

Otherwise... idk, there's a lot of variation. I don't often start with dialogue, but I do on occasion, especially when the fic is going to be short or fast-paced. I never start with imagery--"Chi and Mei" comes close, but it's only half imagery, really, the other half just orienting the reader in a canonical scene. "The White Snake" has a second and third sentence with more imagery, but the first sentence is more context. I often start with introspection, but I also often start with action. It's fun to try out different things.

Yuecheng (aka King) is a chinese synth developed by Shanghai Wangcheng in collaboration with Chengdu Yuefang Cultural Broadcast Co., and announced as a private synth on 30 apr 2018, his character birthday is 28 jul though. he is voiced by Nuochen, and illustrated by CleverCool. yuecheng's vp was chosen through audition and voting. he is originally a character from the manhua "The Manhua Artist and The Idol: Yuerong and Yuecheng", published by NetEase Comics. in sep 2015, a song called "Love Lock" was produced for the character by CleverCool, Zhixiaoai, and Huduoduo. in the manhua, this is the song that allowed yuecheng to become an idol. though the vocalist was a live singer, it is credited as being sung by yuecheng. yuecheng was available as a private synth from 28 jul 2018, to 12 jun 2020. producers who wanted to use yuecheng had to agree to a contract before getting to do so. yuecheng is 19yo and 180cm tall.

Khylin is a korean synth developed by TGENS Co., Ltd. (i think), and released on 18 sep 2012, though her character birthday is 28 jul. she is voiced by Hyo Bae Park, and illustrated by Yeon. khylin is 16yo. she came with every version of vocalina 2.0, but was only available for free in version 2.3.2. she could be purchased through a subscription.

Bae Seok Ryu and Song Hyeon Jun

Truthfully, the circumstances just weren’t in their favor, regardless of how much they loved each other and dreamed of a future together. They were faced with a huge obstacle in the form of stomach cancer, for which Hyeon Jun fully committed to being Seok ryu's caretaker, taking a sick leave from work and even putting his whole life on hold for Seok Ryu, because he loved her and wanted to be there by her side. However, Seok ryu's decision to not tell her family and close friends meant leaving Hyeon Jun- who respected her decision and even after they broke up, kept her illness hidden from her family- as her sole caretaker and support system, which was bound to take a toll on him as well sooner or later.

After her treatment ended, they were yet faced with another huge blow in the form of depression -none of which are Seok ryu's fault by the way. But once again Hyeon Jun was left as her sole source of support. Now, I'm not saying that one's partner isn't supposed to be there (I mean, "in sickness and in health", right?), but it's clear that it was too much for him at this point. This reminded me of a cancer research conference I attended years ago, where one of the discussed topics was caretaker burnout and the importance of respite for them, both the sick person and those around them are greatly affected both physically and mentally, and that's what we saw in the episode; Two exhausted people who, despite loving each other, just couldn't bear with how exhausted they were and Hyeon Jun ended up snapping. Does this mean he's a shitty person? No, we saw him be by Seok ryu's side through thick and thin, but at last he was tired and snapped in a moment of desperation. This sadly just means they just weren't what the other needed at the moment anymore, and this is a very realistic portrayal of relationships where there isn't respite nor a proper support system.

I do think he loves her and feels guilty for being so burnt out, but sadly she's ready to move on and that's all that's left for him to do now. Move on.

This sets up a huge challenge for Seung hyo tho, how do you get through her walls when she’s seen first hand what can happen to a relationship when faced with adversities? She said it herself, she’ll be constantly on the lookout for her cancer possibly coming back or even spreading. How can he convince her that he won’t burn out? How can you convince someone who knows firsthand that sometimes love is not enough? Good luck Charlie!
