The POstables family is about to get even bigger! The 14th movie in the franchise, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: A Tale of Three Letters, premiered on July 12 and ended with some exciting baby news.
Shane (Kristin Booth) is pregnant! In the final moments of A Tale of Three Letters , Shane tells Oliver (Eric Mabius) that they are expecting a baby. Mabius spoke with TV Insider and admitted that he was “surprised” by Shane’s pregnancy. “I can usually anticipate what Martha [Williamson]’s going to do, but I didn’t see that coming in this movie.” However, it made total “sense” when he looked back at Oliver and Shane’s journey in the latest movie.
The POstables will actually be welcoming two babies in the very near future. Norman (Geoff Gustafson) and Rita ( Crystal Lowe) are adopting a baby girl.
“It’s exciting because they’ve had training wheels in the form of their best friends, Norman and Rita, who have been sort of moving through uncharted waters,” the actor continued. “This movie is largely about trying to figure out what makes them ready to pursue a life together, and the next logical step is really the finale of this movie, which opens us up to a whole new world of possibilities, having them both going through this at the same time as well.”
He noted that Oliver and Shane will have their hands full as new parents. “It takes a village to raise a baby, but Oliver and Shane have surrounded themselves with such amazing people,” Mabius said.
In A Tale of Three Letters, Oliver and Shane had to overcome obstacles early on in their marriage. They began going to therapy to sort out their issues, which ultimately strengthened their relationship.
“We’ve seen a lot of couples in therapy scenes before, but I felt like these really resonated in that they were truthful, that they were not comfortable,” the Ugly Betty alum explained. “They were painful at times, and they were bereft. They were full of despair. But this is the process of therapy, working through these things and relinquishing some kind of control.”
Oliver and Shane had quite the slow burn romance across several Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies. Now that they’re together, Mabius told TV Insider that their relationship was “really earned. Some were annoyed that it was dragging out for so long before they became romantically involved, but I think it’s such powerful foundation.”
Mabius was tight-lipped about the next POstables adventure, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To the Moon and Back, the 15th POstables movie. However, he did say that he doesn’t anticipate the franchise “slowing down” whatsoever. With a new generation of POstables on the way, we don’t foresee the Signed, Sealed, Delivered universe going dark anytime soon.

The one-and-only appearance of the Golden Age Black Panther from Stars and Stripes Comics #3 (July, 1941). Art by Paul Gustafson.
What's that you say? You never heard of him? Well, don't worry, Pinky, you ain't missing much.
He has no superpowers, we never learn his secret identity, and even though he carries what looks like a knife on his belt we never see him use it. You could have inserted any one of dozens of costumed heroes into this story and it wouldn't have mattered.

Game 21 Grinning and Bearing It to Spare You Thurs, July 4 10:00pm EDT Washington @ Las Vegas
Starting: WASH: Atkins, Edwards, Hines-Allen, Richards, Vanloo (Austin hip recovery, Dolson illness, Sykes foot injury, Samuelson hand injury) LV: Gray, Plum, Stokes, Wilson, Young
1st Quarter We've made it to the second half of the season, now praying for a sea change in W-L record. Unfortunately, the Mystics face the reigning champs tonight down 4 players. Our first play is executed perfectly, finding Ariel rolling open under the hoop. Defense is looking great, but that doesn't stop A'ja. Nice pass from JVL to Aaliyah who lays it in. The Aces' midrange shooting looking like a problem here early. Both teams missing now as it's clear Earl is expected to take on the majority of the scoring tonight. At last JVL takes one herself from 3 and hits it. Everybody needs to be shooting or they will just drown Ariel. Engstler and Shatori sub in. Shatori sees daylight and drops the 3. The Aces lose the ball and we find Tori again for 3. Look out. Karlie is getting some recognition for the tough assignments she gets as Carolyn Peck gets into what the Mystics lose on defense with her, Shakira, and Slim sitting so many games. Well, the broadcast cut out for 6 minutes of game time. Looks like the 1st quarter stayed a bit slow, KP and Jado hitting 3s and a handful of turnovers for DC. 20-23
2nd Quarter The broadcast picks back up with 7 minutes in the 2nd, in time to catch that KP has just hit another 3. In the video feed gap the Mystics seemed to be rebounding well according to stats. It's 26-28. KP goes again :( Aaliyah takes it on in and gets the foul. Melbourne finds space in the lane but can't send it home. Gray sends a perfect full court pass. Gustafson gets a corner 3. Myisha isn't taking enough shots. Go for it! KP is nothing like the player we saw last matchup who had two points all game—she gets 3 again. Earl pulls up. It's nice team defense from the Mystics, especially as short as we are, height and numbers. Chelsea Gray now drains it from 3 as the deficit stretches to an uncomfortable 17 points. Although we did come back from 14 points down in the 4th last game, that was against a short-handed Sparks. Carolyn Peck calls for the introduction of fourth officials aka a studio review crew. Careful now… Earl takes a charge for the team. KP with the most obvious screening foul I've ever seen, yet she acts surprised at the whistle. Engstler goes 3 but we can't get a good shot on the last possession of the half 35-48.
3rd Quarter As ordered: an Ariel Atkins 3 in the opening seconds of the second half. Yish playing excellent D on A'ja tonight. Gray hits another 3. There have been too many misses today from the Mystics. We string together two successful possessions and it feels rare, Earl with 3 again. Aaliyah goes against three Aces under the rack and gets the bucket. Jackie Young's confidence over the past couple years has gone way up, love to see it. Oof consecutive turns and the game is 47-65. The Aces are getting whatever they want now. DiDi gets the jumper and we have subbed in our newest Mystic Jakia Brown-Turner, 6ft guard and DMV hometown hero. J-Yo hits from distance to give the Aces a cringe-worthy lead. Shakira Austin gets a coveted bench tech, dunno what she said. Now KP gets back-to-back 3s—she has 28 points. It's time to grin and bear it. The Mystics get two nice buckets, to prove to me they can, but it's 55-83, people.
4th Quarter The Aces are shooting an eye-widening 65% so far tonight. Washington have 2 steals and back-to-back blocks early in the 4th but are still struggling to get the bottom of the net, Shatori being the exception. Her work drops the deficit to the low, low total of 21. Tip Hayes drives thru 3 Mystics to get the reverse layup. Now Brown-Turner gets her first WNBA pts via 2 perfect free throws—well done, Rook. Kierstan Bell and Jado each cash in 3s to close it out. 77-98 final. 39% to 59% shooting

~featuring~
Jesse Lee Kercheval and Jeannine Marie Pitas -- whose translations of Silvia Guerra wonderfully recall H.D.'s "Oread" -- will be presenting their co translation of Uruguayan poet Mariella Nigro's Memory Rewritten (White Pine Press); Alta L. Price will be reading from both Mithu Sanyal's Identitti (a highly recommended review by Susan Bernofsky for LARB can be found here) as well as a forthcoming translation from World Editions, About People by Juli Zeh; Hope Campbell Gustafson will read from Commander of the River by Ubah Cristina Ali Farah (Indiana University Press), a coming-of-age story that runs parallel to recurring exile, “The sound of the ocean, its roar, is the leitmotif of my childhood."
***
Jesse Lee Kercheval is a poet, writer, and translator, specializing in Uruguayan poetry. Her translations include Still Life with Defeats by Tatiana Oroño, also published by White Pine Press, Love Poems by Idea Vilariño and The Invisible Bridge: Selected Poems of Circe Maia. She is the co-translator, with Jeannine Marie Pitas, of A Sea at Dawn by Silvia Guerra. She is the Zona Gale Professor Emerita of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the coeditor of the Wisconsin Poetry Series at the University of Wisconsin Press. Jeannine Marie Pitas is the translator or cotranslator of ten books, most recently Uruguayan poet Mariella Nigro's Memory Rewritten (co-translated with Jesse Lee Kercheval and published by White Pine Press in 2023). Her most recent collection of poetry, Or/And, was published by Paraclete Press in 2023. She lives in Pittsburgh and teaches at Saint Vincent College. Alta L. Price runs a publishing consultancy specialized in literature and nonfiction texts on art, architecture, design, and culture. Alta holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Hunter College. Recipient of the Gutekunst Prize, Alta’s translations from German and Italian have appeared on BBC Radio 4, Specimen, Words Without Borders, and elsewhere. Of the more than forty books Alta has translated, the latest are Mithu Sanyal’s novel Identitti and Giorgio Agamben’s Hölderlin’s Madness. Alta has translated two novels by Juli Zeh: New Year was a finalist for the 2022 PEN America Translation Prize as well as the Helen & Kurt Wolff Prize, and About People is forthcoming this fall. Hope Campbell Gustafson translates from Italian, and works for the Civitella Ranieri Foundation. Her translation of Somali-Italian writer Ubah Cristina Ali Farah's novel Commander of the River, a project for which she received a Pen/Heim Translation Fund Grant, was just published as part of Indiana University Press' Global African Voices Series. In 2019, Fontanella Press published a collection of Marco Lodoli's vignettes about Rome in Hope's English, as Islands -- New Islands: a Vagabond Guide to Rome (Fontanella Press). She is currently working with a non-fiction book by Lorenzo Alunni titled Odysseus' Scars: Bodies and Borders in the Mediterranean.
