1. What made you ship it?

The way they look at each other is just So Soft and Loving and it's A Lot like

And this is just the first half of the season like, oh my god. These kids are In Love.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

The loyalty and trust in this ship is so beloved.

And honestly, looking at how loyal Luke is from the beginning (and you know, the fact that the phantoms were literally just Some Guys that showed up and borderline harassed her for, like, 2 days to join their band) is probably why Julie was so insistent that the guys would definitely show up for the dance and was shocked and hurt that they didn't, lol. 'Cause she's probably like "You literally harassed me for 2 days to join your band and you didn't show up for the first gig our manager/marketing team booked for us! What the hell!"

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Umm, is it an unpopular opinion to say that I actually kind of love the fact that Luke and Julie don't/can't touch each other until the Magic Hug in the finale? (Asks the girl who literally openly has A Thing about the concept of Luke tucking Julie's curls behind her ears and then wrapping his arm around her shoulders like a Boyfriend.) I think it is judging by the amount of hugging and cuddling and general touching and... More the fandom puts in fanfics.

I just personally feel like it's not as... Impactful, let's say, if they can just touch right off the bat and that's one thing I like about the Netflix adaptation of JATP vs original JEOF. Like, Julie and Daniel hug in episode 3 and there's 26 episodes of Julie E Os Fantasmas compared to Julie and Luke hugging in episode 9 when there's 9 episodes. I just think it has more umph when there's some real development in their relationship and they talk and connect without the option of physical touch at first and then they gain the ability later rather than sooner.

You know, 'cause then it's like *dramatic gasp* "They can t o u c h now." after 9 whole episodes instead of, like, "Aww, she hugged him. That's cute." after 3.

Does that make sense?

“Rain Don’t Blind the Rising Souls”: Julie and the Phantoms Reaction

So I just finished Julie and the Phantoms, a new Netflix series (based on a Brazilian sitcom called Julie e os Fantasmas) It’s about a girl, Julie Molina, who becomes part of a ghost band after the ghosts rekindle her love for music, which she lost while grieving for her mother. 

The other three members are Luke, Alex, and Reggie, who were members of the band Sunset Curve but tragically died in 1995 before a big tour. 25 years later in 2020, Julie somehow accidentally summons them by playing their old demo CD that she finds in her deceased mom’s old music studio. Awesome music, shenanigans, unexplained ghost power stuff, and really sweet, heartfelt moments ensue.

I’m really hoping there will be a Season 2 of this, because I have so many questions, especially about the main antagonist, how ghosts work, & the future of the romantic ships.

ALSO. I would love to see crossovers of this show with series like Lucifer (2016), because Lucifer Morningstar would absolutely love a ghost band to play at LUX but wouldn’t force them into it (unlike certain ghosts - looking at you Caleb) and would probably not take too kindly to powerful ghosts manipulating others (once again, looking at you Caleb). Both shows are set in Los Angeles, so there you go.

Or a crossover with Meg Cabot’s The Mediator series (which is also set in California) -- oh my gosh that’d be great! The ghosts in Julie and The Mediator are a little bit different, but it could still fit; Suze (and Jesse) could probably guide Julie in the ways of dealing with ghosts, especially Caleb. And ooh, in this universe, Caleb could very well have been a mediator/shifter in life and still retains control over ghosts in the afterlife

Anyway, that’s my fandom plug for the month. Go watch Julie and the Phantoms because it’s really good and sweet and has tons of awesome music (My title is from one of the songs, “The Other Side of Hollywood”)! It’s also really short, only 9 half-hour episodes, so it’s very bingable.

after watching julie and the phantoms, i found this on youtube, so im going to live blog it w/ thoughts n stuff. (SPOILERS)

[update] i only did three episode, and was going to finish this, but nah

episode one 

i like the extra effort they put in to establish this is a haunted house

so in jatp, the place where she met the phantoms was a studio, but here, it’s her actual room. i thought it was a converted garage space, so she sleeps in the garage? (”back of the house”)

so this must be something they explain later, but he goes on talking about a construction company, and saving a house (presumably this one), but how did they get there if the vinyl was what brought them in the first place. are there more ways than one to come back to the living world?

ik common curtsey is a thing, but there really is nothing stopping them from just going wherever they want whenever they want

i like how she doesn’t immediately trust them, and is annoyed at them. ik in jatp she was also not immediately trusting, but idk, i feel like she didn’t mind them after episode 2. i don’t see this julie being as welcoming (for lack of better terms) just yet, especially since Daniel is crap

back to that ghost police, so do they kill them when they’re already dead? like how does that work. and by the way the two phantoms were talking about it earlier, it’s not like the “afterlife” or wherever they came from is that interesting

“You only live once but you can rock forever,” promises the tagline in the first trailer for Netflix’s YA musical series Julie and the Phantoms. To which we say…rad.

Julie and the Phantoms is a nine-episode series set to arrive to Netflix on September 10. It follows high schooler Julie (Madison Reyes) struggling to regain her passion for music after the loss of her mother. Thankfully, some rockin’ ghosts from the distant past (1995) will soon arrive to help out. Check out the first full trailer below.

“Why have you been keeping those cute boys a secret?” one character asks. Why indeed, Netflix? This looks to be a charming YA adventure, which makes sense as it comes from Kenny Ortega – the director and choreographer behind High School Musical. Netflix official description for the series reads:

“High schooler Julie (Madison Reyes) lost her passion for music after her mom died last year. But when the ghosts of three dreamy musicians (Charlie Gillespie, Owen Patrick Joyner, Jeremy Shada) from 1995 suddenly appear in her mom’s old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit beginning to reawaken, and she’s inspired to start singing and writing songs again. As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.”

In addition to Ortega, Paul Becker is attached as choreographer. Dan Cross and Dave Hoge serve as executive producers and showrunners. The series is adapted from an original Brazilian series known as Julie e os Fantasmas written by Paula Knudsen, Tiago Mello and Fabio Danesi.

Perhaps is difficult to create a winsome YA series on the premise of three dead teenagers but thankfully Julie and the Phantoms will have a soundtrack to help. Netflix has collaborated with Columbia Records to release a collection of original music performed by Julie and the Phantoms in the series. The tracklist is as follows:
