Holy shit. This is definitely my favorite so far! Julian… I don’t know what to say. He’s everything I want in a live action Jafar- brown skin, tattoos, morally gray personality. I love that he’s the total villain and has set plans, only for those plans to unravel right before his very eyes.

And Yasmin! I loved her. I was so scared I was gonna hate her because she was so infatuated with Aidan… but her eyes were really opened in this.

I loved the family and relationship angst, and watching Julian come to certain realizations. You think Yasmin is a spoiled princess, but she is not. And I love her even more for it. Especially when Julian treats her the way he does in order to make her less helpless.

Normally I’m a huge fan of the fast-paced romance, but this slow burn was everything!

* So I’m just gonna state the obvious. Yasmin is “Jasmine” and Julian is “Jafar”… right?

* Damn. Only the prologue and Julian is already taking out his competition.

* Ahhh. And Aidan is “Aladdin”. Got it.

* Lol. Julian thought Yasmin would freak when she spotted him watching Aidan eating her out, but it seems it turned her on instead. It’s Julian that’s fucked 😂

* Yikes. Daddy wants her to get married and be “taken care of”. She loved Aidan though and knows her dad won’t approve. But now Julian is thinking of marrying her and then killing her after the dad dies. This is so messy lol.

* I love Riya. Yasmin needs to listen to her bestie.

* Oohhhh. Interesting. Julian is offering a deal to Yasmin and Aidan, and Aidan will do anything..? Julian thinks he’s power hungry and doesn’t like Yasmin and much as she likes him.. 🤔 Could Aidan be using her..?

* Holy shit. He killed another of Yasmin’s suitors 😂 Dude really wants that diamond company.

* Oh fuck ahaha. Julian played Yasmin and Ali like a fucking fiddle. HE KNEW that Ali would accept his daughter’s choice no matter what, but he still worked his way in AND got Aidan out of the picture. For now.

* “You can make me wear your ring,” I hiss, “and parade me around with your last name, but I will never bow for you.” // He smirks. “We’ll see.” — Damn.

* Damn. That officer disrespected Yasmin and Julian made him pay for it with his life. I love a protective man, even if Yasmin doesn’t know he’s that protective.

* Oh my god… I hope Yasmin stands up for Julian if his mother tries any shit.

* I can’t believe I’m 250 pages in and STILL NO FUCKING! This really is a slow burn.

* Damn. Julian eats pussy like a champ 😂 I can’t believe he didn’t fuck her tho. Why does he wanna hear that she’s his when he still plans to kill her 🤔 He’s doubting his plan now, huh.

* Ian and Jeannie are fucking traitors. I think. And with Yasmin’s fake will and plans to kill Ali if he doesn’t die soon… someone’s gonna tell Yasmin and it’s gonna break her heart because she’s starting to like Julian 🤦🏻‍♀️ So messy.

* Why the fuck is Jeannie so sketchy rn.

Review:

A dark Aladdin reimagining featuring the heiress of a diamond company and her father’s right hand man who definitely has a few skeletons in his closet. Yasmin Karam is the daughter to one of the richest men in the world, she is extremely sheltered and spoiled, she loves her father and is willing to fo anything for him, event at the expense of her own happiness. Yasmin has been shut out of her father’s business despite how much she wants to be part of it, she’s been treated like a delicate doll all her life and she wants more, she wants to be taken seriously, to have her father’s approval and understanding, and to be treated the way his right hand man seems to be. Yasmin absolutely hates Julian Faraci, a man who is 13 years older than her who somehow managed to go from street rat to her father’s right hand man, who seems to have gotten the trust, attention, and consideration from her father that she never had. Julian is a man with so many secrets, he’s lived a life filled with darkness, manipulation and death. He had an abusive childhood that lead to him taking his own father’s life while dealing with the abuse from his mother. He wants power, he wants to take over Yasmin’s family’s business that should be his. He built the company and has made sure its continued to prosper but for some reason he is not even considered a successor for it. Julian’s only goal is to be the most powerful man in the world, and he’ll get rid of anyone in his way, preferably by feeding their corpses to his giant pet python. They get under each other’s skin like no one else, they turn each other on like no one else, and like a diamond in the rough, their feelings just need a bit of shine and pressure to finally reveal the twisted love cage that works perfectly for them. I adore the Never After series by Emily McIntire and this was a fun addition to the series! I thought it was an interesting retelling and I do like how wrapped around Yasmin’s finger Julian is, despite how much he doesn’t want to admit it, and ISABELLA THE SNAKE IS EVERYTHING OKAY I LOVE HER YALL. I liked seeing Yasmin’s growth from someone who wants to please everyone to someone who finally goes for what she wants and snatches it.

Thoughts:

Starts off weird with a very much older man watching a young woman receiving mediocre oral from her boyfriend while stroking his own cock. This man is Julian Faraci, aka Jafar and the two lovers are Jasmin (or Yasmin Karam) and Aladdin who I genuinely didn’t bother remembering the book’s version of his name. Aladdin is a servant boy and Jasmin is the rich girl but the two are in love.

As soon as you meet Aladdin he’s promptly sent across the planet on a mission to find an antique artifact called the Lamp so that he can offer the artifact in exchange for Jasmin’s hand in marriage. Really it was because Jafar has eyes on Jasmine’s inheritance and wants to force her into a marriage contract.

Jasmin essentially continues to cheat on Aladdin throughout the rest of the book whilst developing Stockholm syndrome.

As all good forced proximity/fake marriage plots go, Jasmin ends up falling for the brute of a man over their time spent together with her father. These books are dark romance so Jafar is shown to deeply care for Jasmin’s father and genuinely want what’s best for the company, despite all of this Jasmin continues to perceive him as a villain.

A few steamy scenes play out that leave Jasmin wanting more than Jafar is willing to give and dear god I agree. Just give the girl your dick already.

In the final third of the book, where we expect to see a miscommunication arc thrown in haphazardly, we get a trip to the desert to meet back up with Aladdin (who I had completely forgotten about until now). The research team has been unsuccessful in their search for the Lamp and Aladdin is weirdly chill about it. Jasmin has some time alone with Aladdin to prove to herself that she is no longer in love with him but get manipulated by Aladdin and a turncoat goon.

One thing leads to another and Jasmin has the Lamp and Aladdin all to herself in a small hotel room in the middle of nowhere, when she hears Aladdin speaking to his mother on the phone and all the pieces fit into place. Aladdin has been the bad guy the whole time. He never loved her, he just wanted to marry her for her money so that he and his mother could live the lavish life. She finds a weapon and does what she needs to.

Jasmin ends up with Jafar like we knew she would and everything is fine. Except it’s not fine and this book sucked.
