There's a hyperspecific genre of song that always makes me cry; sci-fi "filk" music about spacemen who sacrifice themselves for their crew.
Ballad of a Spaceman
Some Kind of Hero
Sam Jones
Dawson's Christian
"I'm as good as dead, but there's still something I can do to save everyone else, so that has to be enough."

Lyrics:
[Chorus] I have no use, I have no pride I have no hope, so they say of me Mahn past his youth, Mahn past his prime Mahn upward bound now in infamy Raised Hanni male in an old Hanni clan Golden mane, thunder voice, long I held Mahn land I was lord, I was god, I was Mahn to the core My own son clips my ears. Now I rule no more Shamed by defeat, too proud to die Hanni male, I feel passions I can't deny I took shelter with females and from defeat ran Just to find greater shame in more distant lands [Chorus] Feared like a beast, kept like a child Clear the rows! Hanni male! Ring the cry so wild! Both on ship and in port my defeat stalks with me In closed minds that deny what a male might be Proud Hanni male with a strong Hanni hand I can think past my instincts. I'll make my stand And gods rot any merchant refusing to see I am lord of myself as no beast could be [Chorus] A male upward bound now for victory!

I went to a used bookstore. Found some stuff I wasn't expecting to.
Duane is always really good, and L.A. Graf (Let's All Get Rich And Famous) is a group of filkers who also wrote. Then there's one actually just by Julia Ecklar (of the golden voice) and some CJ Cherryh.

I feel like Space Ballad is a genre that should do wonderfully here, so if I have your attention... give this a listen, and check out some of the other stuff the uploader has found. It's a fantastic collection of some specific-ass people in specific-ass situations.

Stuff I listen to on my way to work.
Weird stuff I listen to on my way to home visits:
Ok, so technically I wasn't driving to a home visit at 1:00 a.m., but I was driving to work, so I think it counts. It also is not as weird as it sometimes is. I have loved filk since I learned it existed, so it is frequently what I'm listening to when I don't have kids in the car. Unfortunately, most of the small humans do not appreciate filk like I do. But this morning there were no small humans in the car, so I listened to Crimson and Crystal.

I know it isn’t exactly this but it’s the closest I’ve found so everyone PLEASE, go listen to To Touch the Stars - a Musical Celebration of Space Exploration, AND SPECIFICALLY LEGENDS
You know what I want?
Space mythology.
Saints of the starship and angels that take their true form as nebulae, great and fiery amorphous beings that speak the will of the Universe
Nymphs of asteroid fields and planetary rings, sylphs that fly in the tails of comets and solar wind, the gods of the galactic core
Demons that dwell in black holes and eat the hearts of dying stars, spirits of galactic battles that cause engines and shields to fail when you get too close to their graves
Ghost ships, long MIA, drifting in dark space, an inaccessible monument to those lost
Demigods, Herculean beings forged in solar fire surviving alone and unshielded in the vacuum, on an icy rock so far from a star as to never see its light
Heroes and saints ascending to their gods by dissolving into starlight and void
Just…Space mythology.

https://fanlore.org/wiki/Born_Again_Trek
"...so many fans don’t know what it was like when Star Trek was considered an anomaly, and it looked like we might never have another popular SF franchise again, and then SW came out and the PTB acted like it was STILL a fluke.
No reboots. No multiple generations. The first movie wasn’t all that successful. The success of Khan is why we have a Trek franchise today..."
I remember how it felt in the 90s. Star Wars was never going to continue, I was young enough not to realize how many people loved Star Trek (and isolated enough to think they'd never accept me); and I'm glad we have this Internet here now.
