Two years ago, I decided to completely stop purchasing books by white authors. I definitely have a preference for East Asian (especially Chinese) and indigenous authors. I'm currently expanding it to include S/SE Asian and African/Black authors.

Tears dripped down your cheeks as you watched a kdrama so beautifully written just to make your heart sob. "Can they please just get together already?" you sniffled, watching the male lead die for the nth time. Your ears flopped over your cheeks, your tail twitching with each sniffle you took. You rubbed your tears with your fist, wearing Chan's oversized hoodie. 

His wolf figure was ten times bigger than the rest, thus giving you the best hoodie blanket in the pack. You blew your nose into some tissues, watching the female lead reincarnated again to save her lover's  life. Jeongin bit back a smile, pretending to be nonchalant, "What are you crying at, shortcake?" he asked, crossing his arms. You sniffled, rambling about the show, each word getting drowned out by your sobs. 

Jeongin swallowed a laugh, "That's it?" he said, just to rile you up. You furrowed your eyebrows, "Innie, it's romantic. It's love that has so many layers that even the soul can't forget it. I know it's dumb I'm crying this hard over a show. I know I'm really just a dumb bunny, but -" you ranted when suddenly you heard a familiar tape rewind. "I'm really just a dumb bunny," repeated back at you. 

Jeongin smirked, loving your shocked expression, "Bun, you know I always take your emotions to heart right. When have I ever disregarded your feelings, hm? Except earlier, of course," he said, brushing back your hair. You sniffled, hopping into his arms, "Asshole," you whispered, sighing in relief as you burrowed into his chest. Jeongin chuckled, holding you close, "Aww, you bunnies are so emotional," he cooed, pampering kisses on your forehead. 

You giggled into his chest, arm weakly trying to grab the recorder from his hand. Jeongin smirked, "Ah, are you trying to grab the pen? Is that what this is?" he chuckled, holding it higher. You smile against his pec, "Give," you whispered, comfy in his hold. The members tiptoed in, hoping not to break the adoring moment in front of them.

Jeongin rolled his eyes, his ears burning from embarrassment, but as long as your lips stayed in a smile, he'd do anything. You  burrowed closer, comforted by his warmth scent and his tail wrapped around your waist. Jeongin scoffed a smile, clicking the recording once again just to hear your silly giggles.

“ah! hyung! is the dance proposals already finished?” a sudden voice appeared as you, judie, soonyoung, junhui and minghao. soonyoung was the first one to react.

“oh! channie, you’re just in time!” he said as he pats the male’s back who was heaving.

“i had to run so fast as soon as rehearsals ended! no one told me being a dancer in high school would be this stressful!” the male said. you finally take a good look on him: he had a cap on but his dark brunette strands were peeking out. he was wearing a plain black shirt and is a tad bit shorter than the dancers and artist. minghao stifled a laugh as junhui just smiled mischievously. the male raised a brow.

“why are you guys giggling like high school girls?” he asked in a serious tone. soonyoung just patted his back as junhui walked forward to him.

“it already ended! but it’s alright, you didn’t really miss anything.” junhui said to the male. the younger male gasped and groaned.

“you’re joking! ah, i really wanted to see some choreographies to help me brainstorm my own…” he traced off. suddenly, minghao cleared his throat, making the three males look at him. he motioned his head towards you and judie.

“oh right! this is yn and judie! judie is a dancer like us while yn is an artist like minghao.” soonyoung introduced you two as the male nodded his head, “and yn and judie, this is chan, he’s a dancer at pledis high.” soonyoung boasted as chan just shrugged it off.

“it’s no big deal, honestly! nice to meet you two…also hyung, is the dinner still going on or…?” chan asked soonyoung as he nodded.

“yup, it’s still going, and judie and yn here are coming with us.” soonyoung said. chan looked at you and judie and back to soonyoung.

“no offense, but why?” he nonchalantly asked. junhui snorted, while minghao only shuffled in his feet.

“because we’re friends? anyways let’s get going! you two can either ride with me or minghao.” soonyoung said. you and judie looked at each other when junhui suddenly gasped. he suddenly held soonyoung’s shoulder.

“i think it’ll be great if all the dancers are in one vehicle and the artists are also in another car, riiiight?” junhui suspiciously asked soonyoung, who only raised an eyebrow, but just agreed to do it.

“oh! yeah, absolutely! yn go ride with minghao.” soonyoung said, the group finally walking towards the doors, exiting the university. while walking to the parking lot, judie stayed beside you, and so did minghao. all of a sudden, minghao nudged your arm. you looked up at him.

“my car’s just right up ahead, while soonyoung’s at the left. you can ride with them if you want, you don’t have to listen to what soonyoung said.” he told you. you only looked at him and hummed.

“it’s alright, i don’t mind riding with you. and besides, i think judie needs to properly apologize to them, for being kinda mean and all that.” you sweatdropped as minghao chuckled. he nodded at your statement as he went up ahead.

you nudged judie’s arm and told her to follow soonyoung’s group, who was already calling out for her to come with them. she groaned and walked towards the men. you watched as judie strolled towards them and finally looked back at minghao, who’s already starting his car. you walk towards his car, which was a mercedes-benz, and sat in the front passenger seat.

“nice ride.” you complimented. he smiled softly.

“thanks.” he simply replied. the atmosphere was not tense, but awkward yet calm. you put on your seatbelt and settled in when he suddenly held up the aux cord. you raised a brow.

“you can play music if you want.” he said. you grabbed the cord from him and bashfully chuckled.

“ah…are you sure? my music taste is kinda all over the place.” you stated, as he finally started driving, just tailing behind the other group.

“i promise you i won’t judge you based off your music taste. and what’s wrong with having funky music taste? i literally listen to wave to earth and one minute later ill be listening to joji.” he said. you sweatdropped and finally connected your phone to the aux, whilst started looking through your spotify.

“i don’t think joji and wave to earth are that different from each other…but alright.” you said, finally playing your personal playlist. minghao, in your shock, suddenly hummed the first melody of the song.

“you listen to the cure?” you asked him. you could see his small smile turn into a smug one.

“yeah, they’re pretty great.” he said. you sit still in shock from this information.

“dude, you don’t look like you listen to the cure. i’m shocked.” you said out loud. he giggled from your statement.

“YOU also don’t look like you listen to the cure, yn.” he said. you shrugged your shoulders and slumped on your seat.

“fair enough.” you replied, however this piqued your interest, “so, which artists do you think i listen to?” you asked him. the car stopped apropos to the red light. he tapped his finger on the wheel.

“hm…” he hummed, thinking, “you kinda give off clairo fangirl vibes, and maybe a casual listener of asap rocky.” he said. again, you were kinda shocked to how accurate his answer was.

“oh! you got the clairo part right! but you got the wrong best friend, i listen to tyler the creator more than asap, but that’s pretty accurate! is it because of how i dress myself? or just how i act?” you curiously asked him, the car moving again. he softly smiled.

“you just look like what i think their songs would look like…and i remembered you rambling about clairo to ten during our facial anatomy lecture.” he said. you blushed in embarrassment. you didn’t know he was that aware of your presence, you just thought that he saw you as an acquaintance. the next song started playing when he softly gasped.

“oh? bags? i actually like this song…not surprised it’s in your playlist, clairo fangirl.” he joked as you chuckled. you wanted to say more when he suddenly pulled up right next to soonyoung’s parked car. oh, we’re here.

you disconnected your phone and got out of minghao’s car, meeting the other group again. you looked up at the restaurant’s sign.

“junhui said this is his favorite hot pot place.” judie suddenly said right next to you. you jolted in surprise.

“really? also how was the ride?” you asked your friend. she groaned but smiled.

“‘ts alright. they’re not as bad as i thought they would be.” she stated when chan walked towards you two.

“hey! we should get going inside so we could get a good table.” he smiled at the both of you as the group finally went inside.

“table for 6 people.” junhui said to the host, who smiled up at him and led the group to a table. minghao sat on the very corner, while junhui sat next to him. judie decided to sit next to junhui, while you, chan and hoshi sat on the other side of the table.

“let’s just order a huge batch of meat and maybe some greens too…yn, judie, ya’ll want anything else other than that?” junhui asked you two.

“i’m good with just the meat,” judie said as you nodded im agreement. chan, however, inserted his opinion. “hyung, can you order one serving of ramyeon?” he asked. junhui nodded and proceeded to ask the others for anything. the waitress went up to your table to get your orders. you looked at judie as you notice her suddenly being tensed up. you just shrugged it off. after getting everybody’s orders, chan suddenly chuckled. you looked at him, so did everybody else.

“what’s funny?” junhui asked, taking a sip of his water. chan look deviously at minghao.

“hyung, i think the waitress had a thing for you. she kept on staring at you.” he said to minghao who only groaned. what you didnt notice was the looks that junhui and soonyoung gave you and minghao. you on the other hand only gasped.

“omg, you think she’s going to pull the “oh here’s your receipt and my number” card?” you jokingly asked chan, who laughed. the other female in the group, judie, only saw soonyoung’s glances at you. being a nosy person, she knew something was up.

“maybe!-” chan was cut off by judie, “pause…soonyoung…do you…?” she questioned, bot even finishing her statement. soonyoung being clueless to her question only tilted his head in confusion.

“i’m what?” he asked. judie whispered something to junhui, who only gasped and made an x with his arms. at this point, everyone was confused.

“wait, he doesn’t like yn?” judie asked junhui, who was now shaking his head no. soonyoung on the other hand paled.

“huh? me? i don’t like yn like that! it’s….” he defended but trailed off eventually. junhui only bonked soonyoung with his chopsticks to silence him. soonyoung rubbed his forehead.

“it’s nothing! and soonyoung was just glancing at yn to make sure she’s comfortable, that’s all!” junhui stated, almost too quickly. minghao was just looking at you the whole time while you were too busy trying to decipher what was going on between soonyoung, judie and junhui. chan finally cleared his throat, gaining everybody’s attention.

“look, our foods’ here. i’m starving!” chan groaned as the waitress served your order. there were different types of cuts of meats and vegetables perfect for hotpot.

soonyoung started dipping some skirt cut steak onto the boiling soup while junhui dropped some enoki mushrooms and cabbages into it. chan was already devouring his ramen, and judie was already picking at the meat that soonyoung dropped into the soup. you and minghao just watched the group as you two patiently wait for the chaos judie, soonyoung, and junhui to tone down. You finally started dipping some cuts of meat into the soup, and when they were done, you could finally taste the beef's delectable palate. you softly moaned from the taste, in which judie snorted at.

“Damn, the meat tastes that good?” She joked as you just rolled your eyes at her playfully. 

“It’s so good! No wonder this is your favorite hot pot place, junhui!” You complimented to the male, who started boasting about Chinese cuisines. 

“I know right? But just wait til you go to minghao hyung’s favorite restaurant!” Chan said. You suddenly raised a brow at minghao, now curious about this said restaurant.

“Is it also a hot pot place?” You asked minghao, but chan replied for him.

“It’s a chinese-korean fusion restaurant. Man, I can taste their jjamppong just by thinking about it…” chan said as he continue to eat his ramen with some hot pot meat. You looked at minghao for confirmation as he just nodded.

“I mean, the food there is great, but chan is just over exaggerating stuff.” Minghao simply said as you take a bite of the hot pot meat. You hummed.

“I wanna go there. I need to start being more adventurous with my palate…” you mumbled. Minghao just looked at you as the two of you started eating, drowning down the conversation that has started. Amidst in the calm atmosphere, soonyoung suddenly called the waitress. He whispered something to her as she walks away. You paid no mind to it until the waitress came back with 4 bottles of beers, each for everyone except for chan, who is a minor. Soonyoung thanked the waitress as he started passing down the bottles.

“Let’s get drunk!” He said as he started chugging down his bottle of beer. Junhui visibly cringed as he try to stop soonyoung.

“You know you’re lightweight! Stop it!” Junhui said to soonyoung, starting a fight between them. The waitress came back, asking if she mistook soonyoung for being of age, in which junhui said that he is. He asked everyone for their ids and showed them to the waitress. The waitress nodded and went back waiting other tables. judie suddenly clicked her tongue. You switch your gaze to her, away from the chaotic duo.

“What’s up?” You ask her. 

“You know I do a lot of problematic stuff, but god that waitress should’ve asked for our ids first before serving alcohol. Did she just want to get dicked down?” She said in an angry tone as she grabs her id from junhui. Chan widened his eyes from her words as she just shrugs her shoulders. You also did the same.

“You’re right, but you didn’t have to say that…unless you had some history with her or something.” You questioned. Judie just shrugged her shoulders again, basically saying yes to your question. You sighed from your womanizer friend and tell chan to not worry about her. You glanced back at soonyoung, who was now flushed red from alcohol, and junhui, who was still trying to stop soonyoung from drinking more. Minghao on the other hand was just laughing at his friends as he took a sip from his beer. You stare at him for a moment. You knew that minghao was an attractive man, but him just being comfortable with himself and others just makes him even more attractive. You silently blushed as you took a sip from your beer. You cringed from the taste but still continue drinking. For a few more moments, everyone besides chan was drinking and possibly too drunk to function. You were now basically cuddling with soonyoung. At first, you were comforting him, not knowing that he was an emotional drunk, after junhui just gave up on comforting him. But now, you two were just rambling about your thoughts, well, drunken thoughts.

“Like, have you seen hachiko? Oh my god, I have watched it so many times but I still cry over it. But the thing is, I was only able to completely finish the film once, or twice, before breaking down completely!” Soonyoung said to you as you stifled a cry.

“I have seen it! I can’t watch it again after it crushed my soul…that poor, sweet dog…” you mumbled as you hug soonyoung. Chan was just talking to judie, probably talking about drama in chan’s high school, or even at your uni. What you didn’t notice was minghao’s stare at you and soonyoung’s hugging figures. Of course, there was at least one person who still noticed his gaze: junhui. Noticing the one sided tension, junhui nudged minghao. Minghao looked at him with tense eyes as junhui raised his hands.

“Yo! You look like you’re about to kill someone just with your eyes! You okay?” He asks minghao. Of course he knows that minghao’s not okay, he just wanted a reaction from him.

“I’m alright.” Minghao simply replied to junhui. Junhui pondered for a moment before taking a sip from his beer. He came closer to minghao.

“You know…yn is pretty cute,” Junhui whispered to minghao. Minghao widened his eyes at his friend before squinting them almost immediately. Junhui smirked, “don’t you think?”

“I mean, yeah, she’s pretty and all.” Minghao said, adverting his gaze away from junhui. Junhui laid back on his seat and just hummed. 

“So, as her friend, you wouldn’t mind me asking her out on a date?” Junhui suddenly asks him. Minghao almost spitted out his drink. What was he thinking? Minghao shook his head no. junhui raised a brow.

“Why not?” He asks minghao. Minghao just looked at him silently, his reddening ears revealing his feelings. Junhui chuckled and put an arm around his friend.

“Man! Don’t worry, I was just joking. I’m not gonna steal your girl away.” Junhui said, taking another sip. Minghao was now blushing furiously. 

“What do you mean “my girl”?” He ask his friend. Junhui only shrugged his shoulders.

“Get her before anyone else does.” He just simply said. Minghao was about to reply to him when chan interrupted them.

“Hyung, it’s getting pretty late. We should get our bill.” Chan said to minghao and junhui. Junhui nodded, calling for the waitress. Finally having his attention back on the group, minghao looked back at soonyoung and at you, who were now being comforted by judie. Soonyoung was already passed out while you were slurring your words at judie, something about an eren and a bird. The waitress came back with their bill and junhui took his card out to pay. Judie suddenly tapped minghao on the shoulder. 

“You gonna drive yn back to the dorms? If so, can I just ride with you guys since we’re basically roommates.” She asks minghao. He nodded.

“Yeah, for sure, it’s no problem. And besides, if I were you, I wouldn’t want to ride a car that jun drives…since you know, soonyoung’s out of commission.” Minghao said to judie. Junhui heard him and groaned.

“I’m not THAT bad of a driver. Judie don’t listen to him.” Junhui defended himself. Judie just chuckled as she comforted you on her shoulder. Minghao looked at your drunken state. Cute, he thought. The waitress finally came back with the receipt, and when everybody was getting up, junhui noticed something. 

“Yo! Channie, you were right! She got her number in here!” Junhui laughed as chan went up to him to look at the receipt. He widened his eyes. 

“Yah, hao-hyung, look at this.” He said in bewilderment. Minghao raised his brow as he looked at the receipt. While this was happening, judie was helping both you and soonyoung to get up and leave. Minghao read what was in the receipt.

“‘I think you’re fine as hell, wanna take me out on a date sometime?’ To the hottie with the mullet, xxx-xxx-xxxx’” minghao reads it out loud. Junhui and chan were just laughing from the note. Judie heard him as she just rolls her eyes.

“Damn, she��s still into mullets? 2020 much?” She said to herself, but you heard it even in your slurring state.

“Who’s into mullets now?” You slurred as you got up from judie’s grasp, walking up to the three. You went next to minghao and laid your head onto his shoulder. You tiredly looked at the receipt with the note.

“Damn, whoever wrote that must be some kind of gold digger. Who ask someone out to tell the person they’re trying to ask out to ask them out…I’m about to throw up.” You slurred as you chuckled lowly. Minghao silently tells you not to throw up on him as you tell him it was just a joke. You held onto him as the group finally left the restaurant, when at the entrance, the waitress was waiting for the group to come out. She looked at minghao and to your figure. At this point, you thought you were too drunk to know what was happening. The waitress widened her eyes but shook her head. She walked up to minghao.

“Uhm, do you have a second?” She asks him. But even before she could even daydream about minghao, he quickly shutter down.

“I got the note, and no, I’m not interested.” He said as he walks away, your grasp still on his arms. Why would he want to entertain another girl when the girl of his dreams is holding on to him at this very moment, even if it was platonic. The girl just gasped as she watched the group leave. Junhui apologized and opened soonyoung’s car door, basically pushing soonyoung into the back passenger seat, as chan took the front passenger seat. Minghao didn’t want to remove you from him, but he opened his car door for you to come in. He looked at judie, who was silently smirking the whole time. He raised a brow as she just shook her head.

“Just let her sleep in the back passenger seat.” Judie said as minghao carefully let you lay down on the seat. Junhui went up to minghao to remind him to have a safe drive since he and soonyoung live at a frat house. Both minghao and judie finally got on their seats as he started driving. The car ride was silent. The silence, however, was broken by judie.

“You like her, don’t you?” She suddenly asks. Minghao gripped the steering wheel. He merely sighed in response. Judie hummed.

“Just…don’t hurt her, okay?” She continues. Minghao glanced at her for a second, “I don’t know if she really wants to date right now, but what I know is that she deserves someone who won’t hurt her and will understand her…and I know you’re a decent person, from what she says about you.”

“She talks about me?” Minghao asks judie. Judie hummed as she look back to your sleeping figure.

“more than you’d ever imagine.”
