Consequences of Love- Max/Daniel- 12 k
16
When Max turns sixteen and they placed the cake in front of him, he is unsure what to wish for. He knows that getting a seat in Formula one is just a matter of patience, Red Bull has made it clear he’s going to get one soon. His father and him have worked tirelessly for that goal. there isn’t much to want or wish for anymore.
He sits on a scratchy chair in the dining room of his mother’s home, surrounded by the entire family. Birthdays are a big deal here. It’s one of the few times a year they all get to be together. Max gets to spend time with his mother and sister he doesn’t see much because of his schedule. He misses them a lot and refuses to celebrate anywhere but here, even if it means watching his parents always attempt to tolerate each other since their bitter divorce years ago. They’re sitting on the opposite side of the table, taking pictures to remember this day, they want to have wonderful memories to remember him by if something were to happen to him.
It’s a quieter party compared to the one his friends had thrown for him the night before, which left him hangover and tired for his actual birthday. His head is pounding, his mouth is dry, and his body aching but he tries to hide his misery behind a smile, knowing his dad would kill him if he knew about it.
From the corner of his eyes, he catches his parents, hatred filling their eyes, smirks covering the awful comments they keep throwing at each other. He feels sick at the atrocities they tell each other. Maybe that’s what he should wish for, a normal family. Or one birthday to not end with a fight, or with his mother crying. But that’s wishing for a miracle, and he knows better than to waste it on this.
He keeps wracking his brain. He watches his older cousin wrapping his arms around his girlfriend’s waist, kissing her neck. Max looks away when their eyes meet. His heart sinks, a spike of jealousy running through him. he stares into the twinkling flames of the candle dancing in front of him and wishes for the one thing he’s been looking for his entire life, Love.

College Maxiel AU - Mpreg
College AU - Maxiel - 1723 words
Daniel got his college grant because he was the best athlete in his high school, he’s popular, always has been, always be, not just for his good looks, but because he’s a genuinely nice guy, who gets one with everyone. Max arrived here because his dad paid for his tuition, he’s always been top of his class, learned that the most important thing in life is to succeed.
It’s down to luck or fate that they end up at the same frat party, both drunk enough to kiss, not enough to regret this. They end up in Max’s bedroom, he lives on his own, it’s easier than having Michael walks in on them.
Daniel does the walk of shame the next day after Max made sure he’d been fed and offered fresh clothes. Michael asks who was it with and if Daniel finally found a boyfriend. They don’t see each other much outside of class, they don’t interact until Daniel has to take a pregnancy test and it’s positive.
He finds Max outside of their social study class. He’s freaking out, heaving and pacing. He’s got nothing to say, and to Daniel it’s clear, he’s on his own. He makes it clear: his body, his choice.
Max can’t get over the news. He’s going to be a dad! He’s not prepared, never has been, and will never be. The only thing he's been taught to care about his life is his study, ever since kindergarten he’s been preparing for this, for college, and then a prestigious university. He’s never been able to see past that, and now Daniel is basically throwing a kid in his lap and he hasn't graduated yet. What would his father say?? He's pretty sure they used a condom!!
He doesn't believe daniel tricked him but …. it's complicated. He’s just shaken his whole world and Max is supposed to be fine with that. He isn’t. He needs a little time to adjust, to digest the news and find out what he needs to do. He looks for Daniel when he’s finally made up his mind. He’s nowhere to be found.
He’s in his dorm room, locked in there, missing so many practices and classes that he’ll lose his scholarship. It's awful symptoms, really, not just cute nausea and a need to pee often. It is laying in bed all day, weak and dehydrated, miserable, and barely able to make it to the toilet. He hadn’t been out of his dorm room in days and didn’t shower either. It's lonely, Michael is away a lot with finals coming up.
Max pop his head through the door after he knocked, Michael said it was okay for Max to barge in, once he told him he was actually on board with raising the goddamn child. He bare gifts, tailored notes about their common classes so Daniel doesn't fall behind, and some snacks that have been recommended by pregnant people online, because of course, Max made research. Daniel doesn’t look relieved when Max tells him he’ll be there, for him, for their baby.
Max is over there right after each class, with snacks for Daniel and freshly inked paper they go over for Daniel to study. They watch the baby grow.
Max is more nervous than daniel about the first ultrasound. The neon light in the waiting room gives him a headache, Daniel has managed to not be sick, Max said they could go and get lunch after this.
It feels like they’ve been struck on the head with the news, both astonished, too much to speak. Fuck the Verstappen genes!! It's twins, two babies! The news sends both into crying fits in the parking lot in Max’s car. This was meant to be a hook-up, not something that ruined their lives. But that’s not an excuse, Max won't ditch, he'll stay, two is too much but he can't leave Daniel like this, he'd hate himself for that, it wouldn’t be fair. So he promises he'll take care of them.
Breaking the news to their families is complicated. Daniel asks Max to be there when he tells them. It feels weird to sit in this living room, watching this family support their son and brother. They are surprised, maybe even a little disappointed, but they are more than ready to move close to campus to help them. No one blames Max for this, and the dinner after that is enjoyable.
Max’s family is divided into two teams, one where he's called an irresponsible cunt. He’s glad Daniel isn’t here to hear the verbal abuse from his dad. His mother and younger sister are not happy but quickly warming up to the idea of welcoming the two babies. They want to meet the father. Max has no choice but to bring Daniel to his mother’s house on a Sunday afternoon. He gets into a deep conversation about pregnancy with Sophie.
On the way back to Daniel’s dorm, he tells Max how much he likes his family.
They need to plan ahead and find somewhere to live together. The dorm isn’t an option. There are still 5 months to go, but Max read that twins come early, and he doesn't want to rush things when they'll be here, it will be overwhelming enough.
They manage to find a two-bedroom apartment and share a bed. It’s the only way to afford a place to live. Their parents are helping financially.
Daniel talks to the twins, all the time. He’s better now, can do everything he could before, except sports, his coach called him irresponsible, but it’s fine, he’s got them. He tells them he loves them, every day, and rubs his belly as much as he can, even during class.
Max stays distant with them, he doesn't know how he can say it or mean it, which drives Daniel mad, even more when Max blames it on the hormones.
There's a big fight about this.
"You can leave if you don't want this, we don't need you," Daniel shouts at Max when they are arguing over him not connecting with them.
It's not fair, it's easier for him, he gets to carry them with him, feel them grow, and all Max can do is stand here, watch Daniel love them to bits, while he feels like his own heart might fail at any moments because of all the love he's carrying for Daniel.
It comes out mean and despiteful when he tells daniel so because Max is sure Daniel doesn't love him back. The last time they touched was 4 months ago when their children were being conceived. There hasn't been anything since, even if Daniel’s hormones are making him very horny.
It hurts so bad when daniel says he'll always love Max because he's the father of their unborn children, but he's not in love with him. Max has to fight the tears that threaten to fall.
They share a roof and go to doctors' appointments together, but that's it. There is nothing more, because Max isn’t an affectionate guy, he doesn’t seem to care about their children, Daniel says to Michael once after they’ve gone to the scan to know the gender. Max hadn’t said anything when they learned it was a boy and a girl. Daniel was overwhelmed but didn’t dare to cry, not when Max barely looked pleased with the news. At least Michael gasped and asked how Daniel felt about having both genders.
Daniel falls behind in class and doesn't graduate, maybe next year.
Max is still valedictorian. He wants to make his father proud, and prove to him that having children wasn’t going to ruin his life. He gives his speech in the burning sun and that’s it. Daniel stayed home, he didn’t feel like coming and seeing everyone else be happy when he’s stuck behind. Max gets drunk at lunch with his family, under the sad eyes of his mother and disappointed one of his father.
Jos brings him back home, raging the whole drive there. His hateful words ring in Daniel's ear when he catches a drunk Max before he falls in the hallway. He didn’t look this miserable the last time he saw him drunk.
Daniel carries him to the bed to let him rest. He can't really get up once he's on the bed too, he usually needs help when he needs to get up, so he stays with him. Max snuggles close to him, slowly sobering up. He wraps an arm around Daniel’s round belly and feels the babies kicking, it's both weird and amazing.
He apologizes, to them, he's sorry their parents aren't in love, he's sorry for bringing them into this mess. but promise to never raise a hand on them, and to love them always, to do what his father could never do. He's pretty much forgotten about Daniel, but Daniel doesn't forget his words, they stuck with him.
It takes Daniel three months to fall in love, to realise Max isn't one to tell them, all three, he loves them, like he’d want to. He's showing it, by picking a low-paying job just to provide for them, by making healthy dishes for their children to grow strong in Daniel’s belly, and by keeping the place tidy. He books every appointment because Daniel hates phone calls, and gets everything organised and ready.
he comes to every birthing class Daniel takes, listens to all his hormonal rumbles and massages him when Daniel needs it. No one has been this kind and attentive to him before.
it takes him a month to confess his love, two days before they are born when he feels his first real contraction. He says he loves him too, that recently his heart grew three sizes bigger, he's going to make room for everyone, and he's going to teach their son and daughter about Max's love language. It’s now Daniel’s favourite.
The words I love you come out easily when Max holds their children in his arms. They are tiny and fragile, a spitting image of them both, she has his nose and Daniel's hair. he has his blond hair and daniel's lips; They are perfect, and never again will he call them something that ruined his life, they've made it a thousand times better, so did Daniel.

Dog Training AU - Maxiel
Dog Training AU - Maxiel - 962 words
They were going to put Max's grandma's old golden retriever down after she passed. The poor thing had been neglected towards the last few months of her life. He is overweight and hasn't been properly trained. But Max couldn't bear the thought of knowing this dog would die just because no one was willing to put the time and effort into training him so he took him in.
Ghost weighs 47 kilos, hates being dragged on a walk at the park, chewed two of Max's pair of shoes and steals food from his plate when he's not looking. It’s only been two weeks, but he's already traumatized Sassy and Jimmy, they almost exclusively live under Max's bed now. On a whim, he looks at dog training classes, to bring peace back to his home.
You're doing something good, he hasn't been trained. He's not a bad dog. Max has to repeat this several times a day, he hopes he'll soon convince himself it's true, but he's running out of patience. He waits for Sunday, eagerly. Hopefully, the dog trainer will wave a magic wand over Ghost and fix his behaviour problems. Or just enough for Max to eat a meal in peace.
**********
Daniel doesn't know why he agreed to along with his friends in the muddy field on a cold Sunday morning. He should have stayed at home, warm under a blanket, or out with friends doing something quieter. Instead, he's there, his shoes are covered with dirt, or dog shit, he doesn't want to find out.
He has Shadow on a leash, she's a three-month-old puppy that Daniel gifted his girlfriend ex-girlfriend for their two-year anniversary. She had been over the moon about the little dalmatian he got her. She wasn’t so a month later when she broke up with him, and ended up kicking them out of her place.
He had to get back on his feet quickly, find somewhere to live with Shadow. He’d been too heartbroken to meet his new neighbours or even unpack half of his things. He has had enough energy to go on walks with her, avoiding other dogs in the street because he has always been scared of them. Shadow wants nothing but cuddles and play. She always destroys everything she can find and runs away whenever she can. So his friends suggested dog training classes to get that under control. He was the one to drag Daniel out of bed that day.
The class is about to start. All the dogs seem to be too happy to be here on this gloomy day. Daniel takes a couple of steps back anytime one comes close.
Max is late, well almost. It took half a pack of dog treats to get Ghost in his car. He’s thinking it will take twice as much to get him out and onto the field where everyone else is, but he jumps out of his seat and runs towards everyone. Max is too stunted to hold him back. He pushes a cute guy onto the ground. He looks scared of this massive dog, drooling on him, not understanding he doesn’t want to play. Max is so embarrassed he doesn’t want to go there and let everyone know it’s his dog.
Shadow barks at the big dog, not even scared that he’s twice her size. Daniel still doesn’t know if it means she wants to play or if she’s defending his honour, right now it’s in the gutter. He’s trying hard not to freak out, to let fear take over, but the more the dog is staring at him, the harder it is. He’s been told looking them in the eyes makes them angry, so he turns his face.
“Ghost!!” Someone shouts before pulling him off. “Oh my god, of course, I’m so sorry.”
He helps Daniel gets up, apologises again and the class starts.
It’s a disaster on Max’s part, Ghost refuses to listen to any orders, even those of the instructor. Shadow is doing better, a little too energetic and playful, but she stays put easily.
“Your dog can feel your fear. You have to let it go.” The instructor tells Daniel, not so discreetly. “We’re gonna make groups of twos.” He then says like he didn’t humiliate Daniel in front of everyone.
Daniel and Max ends up together, everyone else has already found someone. They introduce each other. Ghost tries to jump on Daniel again.  He seems to really like him. The exercise isn’t going as bad as the other, and Daniel is not fearing Ghost anymore. He even chats with Max. They leave near each other, walk their dog around the same time. Daniel probably tried to avoid him because of his fear. Both their dogs get along the best, they are running after each other, or rather Ghost is trying to keep up with Shadow, but it’s progress, it’s the most exercise he’s had since Max got him, not for lack of trying.
“We should do this more often,” Daniel says when Shadow rests at his feet, exhausted.
Max agrees and gives Daniel his phone number to text him when he’s out on a walk with her. Daniel give him his, just in case. And just like that, the first lesson is over and they have to go back to their lives.
Daniel’s phone buzzes in his pocket. It’s a text from Max 🐶 a picture of Ghost, sleeping in his own little bed. I have to thank your dog for tyring him like that. First time since I got him that he didn’t destroy anything. Will gladly like to see both of you again. Daniel cancels his plan to self-pity, and invites Max and Ghost for a walk the very next day.

Au pair Max
Max went as far away as possible from his father, and the other side of the world is Australia. He lands in the Ricciardo family, a young dad named Daniel and a small boy, Dale. Daniel has a great job, which allows max to be paid well. Daniel doesn't really interact with his kid, mainly because his ex got pregnant "to save" the relationship but daniel had been clear he didn't want any. They've been separated since before Dale's birth, and Daniel got custody of him.
When he arrives the little boy doesn't like Max, he tries to stay by Daniel's side but Daniel doesn't have the time or the patience for it, and for the first week, Max thinks he's made the biggest mistake of his life.
The kid is only three but he can tell max that he wants him to go back home. He can see that the boy wants affection from his dad but Daniel is too busy and Max is too shy to say something. Max gains the little boy's favor after the first horrible day of school. he comforts him, and they get ice cream. Soon he only wants Max, because Max is funny, nice, and kind and he reads bedtime stories. Daniel has to call him because his son won't go to sleep unless Max is there. Max is out in a bar with his new friends, he makes the trip back home in no time, just for five minutes of Gruffalo before Dale falls asleep. He doesn't want to go out again, but there is Daniel in the kitchen, frustrated.
He asks why max is more popular and it comes out bluntly, because Max is frustrated too, and the gin and tonic he downed before driving is finally kicking in. He's not delicate when he tells Daniel that his son just wants a relationship with him, and maybe Daniel didn't want him but he's here now, so he should try a little. he even dares to ask to be paid for tonight when he was supposed to be off.
And of course, Daniel would be hurt, like he's a man man. And no one should tell him how to raise his kid, especially someone who doesn't have any. But it's more and more obvious that his son prefers Max just because he's giving him what he's craving.
Daniel does school pick up once when his meeting has been canceled, and his heart bursts when he sees how happy his son is to see him. He makes the effort to go to the park but doesn't get too involved. It's Max that pushes Dale on the swing, that pretends to be a pirate on the ship. Daniel comes more and more along to their things when he's free but never plays along. he knows he's letting his son down, but it's too hard to not be scared to be judged. Max can read him like an open book because he saw Daniel hesitate to join them at the pool when they played sharks. Max takes the lead in the activities and pushes Daniel out of his comfort zone. It's daniel now who has to invent a life for the animal at the farm. Daniel wants the ground to swallow him up when he does that. But slowly he does more and max spends his weekend with them, while his friends text him ??? when he doesn't reply to their question Are you coming to...
He stays close to Daniel once he's back home from work and Dale is asleep instead of doing his own thing like he used to. They have dinner together. Daniel invites him on their holidays to his parents' house.
Max doesn't go back home for the holidays. Daniel suggests his family can come and experience a true australian Christmas. his sister and mother sleep in his bedroom while max gets the air matress in Daniel's room. It's awkward as fuck, and Max learns that Daniel snors, loudly. He didn't expect such a hot guy to be louder than his grand father. Max loves to point it out to Daniel. they share a bathroom for a week and brush their teeth together. On Christmas eve, after a long day of prep, Max falls asleep on Daniel's bed and daniel lets him sleep there. Dale said he'd like to see where Santa lives next year, and daniel said he'd take him and Max there.
Max's sister asks if they are dating, and they both laugh, for too long. It's only once they are gone that Daniel tries to say it was a funny remark she made.
Max gets his bedroom back, but Daniel comes and makes himself at home. He talks about the future with Max in it, like this isn't just a twelve months stay.
Dale goes to his mother's for two weeks, it's a complicated story, daniel doesn't really trust her to take care of him, but the judge said that she could, if she was supervised by her parents. Max plans things with his friends during that time, it's been a while, and he misses them. Daniel is dead anxious. He gave his three, soon four year old a phone, and calls him everynight before bedtime to make sure he's okay. But it's obvious Dale's mother is doing much better, and he's having fun. Daniel isn't! So Max makes Daniel tag along with him, and once the nighttime phone call has been made, he has to give it to Max.
On the third night out, after a movie and a restaurant, when all of Max's friends are gone. Daniel wrestles him for his precious phone. It ends with a kiss when Daniel has been too harsh and hurt Max's wrist. He first apologized with a kiss on the cheek, and then the mouth. They part quickly and get back in the car. They don't talk about it.
He kisses him again, days later, when he's a little tipsy and Max doesn't react, not when Daniel is like this.
Dale's fourth birthday party is a hit. When it's finally over, both Max and Daniel are dead tired and say they'll never throw him a birthday party at the trampoline park ever again. All the noises and screams gave Max a massive headache, Daniel says he'll cure it when they are eating the leftover pizza and candy from the party at the kitchen counter. He massages Max's temple, gently. Max asks him to stop. He doesn't want Daniel to act like his boyfriend, because it's too hard to pretend that everything is fine after. Still, he doesn't fight Daniel when he carries on. Daniel says he doesn't want to act like his boyfriend, he wants to be his boyfriend. It makes max snort, because, lol, Max leaves in three months, and clearly, he doesn't want the same thing Daniel does. Max wants a real relationship, something built to last, not just a hookup.
It used to be what Daniel was looking for, in the beginning, when Max first arrived. Someone to have fun with, no strings attached. But then things changed, and now Daniel wants the same things. He tells max so and adds that he wants it with no one else but him. Max says he's too tired to have this conversation, and that they should go to bed.
He sneaks into Daniel's bedroom hours later when he sees the light from under the door. Daniel is surprised to see him, he's obviously been up for a while, maybe he hasn't even gone to bed. He spent the last couple of hours on his phone trying to distract himself. Max lays next to him and asks Daniel to please work his magic again. He notices the nervous hands on his temples and makes daniel stop again. This time he kisses him, gently, a little bit sleepy. Daniel asks if that means they are boyfriends and Max nods. Daniel holds him closer, but Max takes his hands and places them back on his head.

Coffee shop AU - Maxiel
Tumblr media
Max sat his ass here so that he has to work on the deadline for next week, at least he can't watch Youtube here, the connection is too fucking slow.
Then this guy comes in with a strong coffee and giant puffer jacket and asks Max if he can sit at his table because everywhere else is full.
That's what happens when it's pouring outside and they want shelter. Max agrees and tidy his mess a little so he has room on the table.
Max keeps getting distracted by him, he's gorgeous, stupidly handsome, and looks so hot and so pleased when he catches Max looking at him again.
He's listening to some music and drawing while Max has written the same sentences three times in a row, too distracted by him.
Max has been here for hours, he's hungry, so he asks the handsome guy if he can watch his computer while he orders. He still looks over where he seated.
It takes 20min, because the place is still packed, and people who are dripping from the rain and complaining about it don't know what to chose.
When he comes back he thanks the guy, who replies "Daniel", like Max was meant to say his name too, and introduce him but fuck he blurs out his own name and then it's silent again.
The crowd fucks off back in the streets to explore then when the sky has cleared but Daniel is still there in front of Max who's barely made progress on his work.
"Do you want anything??" Daniel asks when he gets up for his second round of coffee.
Max checks that he's not asking someone else because ??? they don't know each other, and Max as already eaten, obviously not enough because his stomach rumbles, but still.
There is a grilled cheese and tomato soup on the table along with a big coffee and a blueberry muffin. Everything looks delicious. Max should come here more often.
Daniel asks if max comes here often, and pushes the grilled cheese and soup towards Max. He doesn't.
The soup is fucking delicious, and Max has to put away his computer to eat. He splits the grilled cheese in half and eats in silence with him.
A waitress brings something else to the table, more sugar and some left over toasted bread. She seems to know Daniel and Max is gutted, which is stupid because he doesn't know that guy, he shouldn't feel jealous of a stupid girl ...
Max should probably have gone home hours ago, but he's looking at Daniel's drawing now, and listening to each story behind it like it's that interesting. It is.
"Kitchen closes in 5 minutes, anything you wanna order?" the same fucking waitress asks then and Max should really be going, but he doesn't want to because there is something so fucking comforting, safe and warm about that Daniel guy.
"Is this what you do for a living?" He asks, pointing at the drawing.
Daniel's smile is both soft and sad, Max feels the urge to hug him.
"Not really. I'm normally an athlete, but I hurt my knee five months ago, so while I recover I just come here to draw." Daniel says. "That's pretty much my table your seating at."
This feels like trespassing, and Max feels the urge to take his things and leave.
"And you, what brings you here in the wonderful cafe?" the girl behind the counter blushes like it's a compliment for her.
"Deadlines and WiFi." Max replies, as if this was enough to explain it all. "I work from home, and I needed to focus on this presentation I need to send by the end of the week, but I kept getting distracted, so I thought i would come here." He could add that he still got no work done because the biggest distraction was just there.
"Sorry guys, we're closed." The waitress says.
They stay in front of the closed door and none of them leave.
"I'll be here tomorrow," Daniel says as he closes his jacket. It got a little more cold. "if you want to."
It's information thrown in the air he's meant to grab. An informal invitation to come back.
"Yeah, okay." he replies awkwardly.
"Bye Max." Daniel's smile so big and contagious that it catches on to him.
Max will find a better outfit, finish his presentation before he gets there in the morning so that when he sits at the same table, he has all the time in the words for Daniel and his puffer jacket.

The one where Daniel gets a Divorce
Max & Daniel - 1001 words
Daniel can’t believe it, he has to go back to his parents for a while. Maybe just a day or two, enough to sort things out. He’ll call them to let them know they’ll be arriving at their house in two or three hours, he needs to feed the kids still. It’s 8:30 pm and they haven’t had dinner. He’s just had enough time to pack each of them a bag with their favourite toys, and some clothes before carrying them to the car and buckling their seat belt, hands shaking from the adrenaline..
They didn’t ask questions, his eldest followed him to the car, clutching the book he was reading by himself. The youngest just cried in terror when his mother started shouting. He’s calmed down now. She says she’s hungry, but Daniel isn’t.
“Okay princess, Daddy’s going to find somewhere to eat, and then we’ll go spend some time at granny and grandpa.” He says, checking for their reaction in the rearview mirror.
He keeps an eye on the empty road, and makes a left to a Burger King he just spotted.
He holds back his tears when he tells his mother that it’s over, they are getting a divorce. She tries her best to comfort him, but they expected it.
Daniel had been nice, always too nice, giving his wife too many chances at proving she still cared about them more than she did her career. That night was the last straw. To Daniel, it was one thing to care about her career, cheating on him was another one he couldn’t accept. She had excuses, some of them probably good. But their relationship had been over for years now. They’ve spent the last year doing nothing but arguing when she was home. He couldn’t do this anymore.
He lets them pick whatever they want to eat, put a paper crown on each other their little heads and take a picture. His daughter looks so tired, her eyes half closing when he chews her burger he cut in half. She falls asleep in his laps ten minutes later. His son still looks scared, he gets some screen time before they head back on the road.
The kids are fast asleep in the back, and Daniel wants someone to talk to, he can't stand any of the music in his playlist or anything on the radio.
The first person he thinks of talking to is his Max, he’s somewhere in Singapore right now, there is a race tomorrow. It’s late for him too, and he might be busy, but he picks up. And first makes sure that everyone is safe, that Daniel has somewhere to take them, when he mentions his parents, Max sounds reassured. He’s very sorry Daniel’s getting a divorce.
“Tell them I said hi.” He says, and then tells stupid stories to Daniel. Random things he thought were funny, annoying colleagues and all that and the two hours go by quickly. Daniel has made it to his parents. “Of course you can call me again, if you want to.” it warms Daniel aching heart.
The phone calls become a regular thing. Both were drivers, Max is at the end of his career, with six World Champion titles, Daniel retired ages ago.
Max knows when Daniel's divorce will be finalised, because he said it once in a phone conversation and Max didn't forget. Daniel never mentions it ever again and instead talks about his new life with the kids, the farm, and how they are watching Max’s last couple of races. Daniel would be there for his last, but you know… Max knows, on the Tuesday following the last race, he signs the papers to end his marriage.
Daniel got some new animals, big ones he's scared of but the kids love. He's even grown his first carrot, and texts Max "wish you were here to see my beautiful baby". It’s so cringey it makes Max laugh, he replies "on my way" and rings Daniel's doorbell many hours later, freshly retired because the next Daniel will be divorced, and a judge will decide if he gets full custody or not. Daniel wants fairness, and split the custody in two. She’s doesn’t.
He wants to spend the night ignoring his feelings and do something stupid like in the good old days but his youngest can't sleep, so she stays awake with her dad and uncle Max, she even sits on his laps and not her dads, because she sees her dad everyday, but not uncle Max.
Maybe then Daniel gets teary-eyed about not seeing his children as often as he would like if they go for a split custody and Max offers the warmest hug and Daniel miss him, even though he's right here, he's missed all of Max, his warmth, his voice, his face, the way his fingers curl around his shoulder, and the filthy stuff he always says under his breath to make him laugh, his smell and his little accent.
Max doesn't leave Daniel’s side. Grace, Michelle and Joe are here too. The judge grant Daniel  custody for most of the time, she gets them on weekends and for some holidays.
Max still doesn’t leave his side when they go to dinner to celebrate, not later that night when Daniel cries about this finally being over, not a week later when he’s supposed to fly back to Monaco.
Daniel is thankful for that. He kisses him, shily when Max mentions his family is gonna fly here for the holidays, because leaving feels wrong. He didn’t need to explain much, as soon as he mentioned Daniel’s getting a divorce they understood. They bring his two cats, and they fit right in Daniel’s farm. He slowly moves in, Daniel makes some room in the closet and dressers, his name gets added to the mailbox, the spare room houses his sim racer now. And everything feels finally right. The kids love him, Daniel even more.

Bestmen AU - Maxiel
Daniel and Max meet not so randomly at Daniel’s cousin's dinner party, just weeks after he got engaged. Daniel had considered not going, not feeling like gathering around someone so bathed in love and #blessed with a fiancé when he’s whole love like he dryer than the Sahara. But he felt guilty just thinking about it and still wore his best clothes and dragged his ass to the restaurant downtown.
He doesn’t know the others, they are all younger than him, his cousin’s age mostly. They are friends of his, he met during college or at work but Daniel never heard about them. Only one catches his eyes, Max.
They are both designated best men because his cousin couldn’t choose. The three others are groomsmen. Daniel and Max are in charge of the bachelor party, and have to exchange numbers after the dinner. Daniel isn’t mad about that. Max is cute and hot, at the same time. They’ve gotten along great and maybe Daniel uses the excuse of planning the perfect weekend for his cousin to text Max first.
But very quickly they just text each other, a lot. Almost everyday. From stupid things they found on the internet to more deeper subject. And then they see each other again, for real, for the bachelor party, in a café in town, so it’s more casual and not at all intimidating to meet your crush in a crowded place, spending hours watching him do spreadsheets for the cost of everything, itineraries, schedule and even detailed instruction. Daniel provides the drinks and the ideas. He does communication in the bachelor group too, which doesn’t include just the groomsmen but other relatives and friends.
If it wasn’t for Max, Daniel would have dropped out of best man duties forever ago, when everyone started to mess with their amazing schedule, the activities and even the destination. He’s too nice to say anything to anyone, but bitches about almost everyone to Max, who has the courage to tell a friend to either come to bachelor party or fuck off, they are not going to change everything for him, it’s Daniel’s cousin wedding after all.
Daniel is pretty sure Max doesn’t really need him to go shopping for the fast approaching bachelor party, but he gladly goes with him on a Saturday. They even get all five matching bow ties the brides wanted them to wear. They have lunch together, keep on buying outrageous stuff for the bachelor party and end up at Max’s. They are exhausted and crash on a couch with a beer and end up talking until 3 in the morning about their very single life. Neither has a date for the wedding. Max got out of a long relationship a year ago, Daniel never found anyone serious to date. They joke they could be each other’s date. Daniel checks if Max could be actually serious about this proposal.
Despite all the shit that went down before, the bachelor party is a massive hit. The future groom is over the moon with all the activities, the drinks and the parties they’ve been to. All the pictures after 10 pm are blurry, they’ve lost count of the number of guys who threw up because they drank too much, and finish the party at the airbnb they’ve rented. They can be as loud as they want, it’s in the middle of fucking nowhere.
Max sobers up quickly, right after he leaned in, close to the future groom, because he was drunk, and a little tired, and euphoric on the atmosphere around him. Daniel heard what his cousin said, he knew it wasn’t mean, but he also knew how much it hurts when someone implies that they are not gay, just because you’ve been too close to them.
Daniel offers Max a beer when he’s gone to a corner of the room, leaving the others to their fun. There is no point of apologising on behalf of his cousin. He’s heard it before, he will hear it again, at every family meal, gathering, he’s sure a wedding won’t be any exception. Max looks almost stunted at Daniel’s confession, he didn’t think he was gay.
They kiss there, but never talk about it, because both were drunk and it felt a little bit like a desperate move. But Daniel didn’t forget how soft Max’s lips were, how good he was at kissing. He doesn’t forget the little moan he let out when Max brushed his lips.
They still talk, because the wedding is soon, and they need to work on their speech. Daniel invites Max over to rehearse what they have to say. They also come with a plan to change the dance from tiktok the bridesmaid wanted all of them to do into something else. Max spending the night wasn’t planned, but he doesn’t fight Daniel when he tells him it’s late, he could stay.
They kiss again.
They make it separately to the venue of the wedding. During the tour of the place, they are shown their room, two kids bunk beds in a tiny space while others from the bridal party get a proper bed. They don’t mind really. They’ll be fine together, they swear.
It’s their first night together since they kissed again, they are tipsy from the drinks at dinner and crash on the first bed together, promising that they’ll do dirty stuff the next day like they’ve been texting about, because right now they are too tired, still high from the bliss of the wonderful night.
Daniel’s glad that for once someone else got their happy ending, best of their lives before he did, because now he’s got someone to share it all with, the weddings to go to, the baby showers and gender reveals, birthday parties to spend with Max until one of them will be ready to live this incredible moment, standing together at the altar and exchanging vows, or popping balloons to see if their child will be a boy or a girl.

Baby just tease me, got no family plan ficlet
It’s almost shameful the amount of luggage they had to pack for this flight back to his hometown. Two suitcases each, half of it just for Bella, even though his parents have told Daniel they’ve got everything they’ll need back home. They even bought her a big girl’s bed. But Daniel caved in and let her pack a hand suitcase just for toys and teddies.
Max apprehends the whole flight there, the overlay in Dubai late at night, and the jet lag once they will have made it to Perth. He’s also petrified to stay with his in-laws for the very first time. They talked on the phone, and he met his mother, but never his father. Even if Daniel talks highly of them, Max is still scared, because of the age gap, because of the fact that he’s barely 21 and already a dad. He tells Daniel he’s fine that he’s okay with this, but the truth is that he called his mother and sister crying and freaking out.
They got her a seat, just in case she refuses to sit on their lap. But take-off is too scary and she doesn’t want to leave Max’s side. He tries to distract her with colouring books and even lets her watch some cartoons on his phone but she’s scared. It’s too loud, she wants it to stop. All her whining is stressing him out.
She slaps the flight attendant's hand away when they offer her candy. He wants the ground to swallow them up and apologies to them. They don’t mind, and reassure Max, that she’ll be fine.
Bella eats the bread off of his tray when dinner is served and she remains calm for the rest of the flight, while Daniel plays with her hair.
While they wait in Dubai for their next flight, there are already ten drawings for Grandma Grace and Grandpa Joe. She drew all the animals they said they have, the five chickens and three cats.
She talks about the kangaroos and koalas, about Daniel’s promise to go see them in nature to the man who had the misfortune to be in the row behind them on their way to Perth. They have to cave in and let her watch Frozen, again and again, to leave the poor man alone.
“Thank god for we brought this stroller,” Daniel says.
He kisses Max’s forehead as a sign of gratitude once he’s put Bella down without waking her up. Jet lag is already getting to her. She’s hugging her little kangaroo, tight. She has changed into her princess Anna dress, she wanted to look pretty for her grandparents.
They are waiting for them at arrival. They’ve been texting Daniel every minute, telling him how much they can’t wait to meet them. Max now understands where Daniel got his over-the-top personality.
“Oh my god, they are here.” Max can read on his mother-in-law’s lips.
She's gripping her husband’s arm, digging her manicured fingernails into his flesh. He’s as excited as she is, impatient to take them in their arms and finally properly meet Daniel’s little family.
She pulls Max in her arms before her son, and she’s just like he remembered her, warm, kind, and generous. He thinks she has mumbled a little thank you but he isn’t sure. Daniel’s dad pats him on the pat and Max nearly flies back to Amsterdam.
“For fuck sack, dad. Be gentle.” Daniel says, checking that Max is okay.
They did prepare for their arrival. There’s a baby seat for Bella, with a doll sitting there. Max ends up holding it until they reach the restaurant they’ve booked. Daniel is starving and really missed Australian food.
As soon as she wakes up to the smell of food, Bella makes conversation with her grandparents. It was meant to be, her and the Ricciardo. She has each of them wrapped around her finger and has no trouble calling them grandma and grandpa. They’ve been a constant presence in her life since Max and Daniel got together. There’s weekly facetime, and occasional presents from across the world, and if they call a little too late and she’s already in bed, they always ask about her.
The next day Max wakes up in a panic. He knows he slept too much, he feels like something is wrong. Daniel is in the bed with him. He checks the time and knows that Bella must have been up for hours. He didn’t hear her, she didn’t call for them.
He rushes out to the kitchen because she’s not in her. He’s still in his t-shirt and boxers. And sees Grace there, finishing her cup of coffee.
“Have you seen Bella?” He asks, urgently.
“Yeah, she’s with Joe, they are watering the plants. He probably also took her to feed the chickens.”
She spends hours outside with him. Eating the strawberries she wasn’t allowed to pick yet when he has his back turned. Sitting on his lap and pretending to drive when he gets the lawn mower out. She becomes his little shadow in the mornings when he needs to take care of the animals. Joe claims she’s fine when she comes back crying because the chicken scared her. Daniel begs to differ, but he’s right, she goes back there without fear the next day.
She doesn’t throw a tantrum when he buys her little rain boots that are Peppa Pig and not Frozen. It shocks Max and Daniel a little. But they don’t complain. They get to sleep in, in the mornings.
She gets to have another grandma, one that spends her afternoon drawing and playing with her, that bakes her favorite cake because she asks her to. They go to the pool they bought just for Bella and watch her favorite movie with her.
But she finally gets to have a proper grandfather. Someone who lets her be a child, who watches over her when she wanders off into the garden, who teaches her about plants even when she doesn’t care about it. Joe reads her stories and doesn’t care that she isn’t learning to write yet, or hasn’t found a cure for cancer. Now she has someone that kisses her bruises and plays hide and seek until she gets bored with it. Some Max’s own father couldn’t be.

Vegas Vampire Club
Max/Daniel - 2490 words - Alternative Universe (also on AO3)
They still ask for his ID when he goes to buy liquor for his nightclub. Daniel just had it changed to make it less suspicious. It used to read Daniel Ricciardo, July 1st 1926, but cashiers wouldn’t believe he’s 96. He bribed his good friend at the DMV to change the birth date to 1989, it looks a little more believable that way. He tries to stay on top of these kinds of things, changing his birth date on his ID, cleaning blood thoughtfully off the floor, and reminding his two best friends to never turn someone else, not even for love, or else Vegas will be plagued with vampires and no one will want to come back here again. They’ve got a business here, and lives they can’t throw away.
Daniel can say that he always learned to adapt to each century, to each place they’ve settled to. He came to Vegas right at the beginning of its glory, having been all around the world before. He thinks he’ll stay here until another war strikes, or if someone finally puts a dagger in his heart.
Being a 569-year-old vampire is lonely, even if you have your best friends by your side. In each place they’ve been to, Michael and Blake always found someone to spend a small part of their life with. Daniel has always been pickier, ending with a string of boyfriends and girlfriends over the years. Sometimes he wishes he could find someone, not as cheesy as Michael or as drug filled as Blake, but someone to share small moments with, to remember what intimacy is all about. Instead, he busies himself with his nightclub instead.
“Okay, guys. Tonight will be our biggest night, many vampires have travelled the country, even the world to come here because we promised fine dining and great partying, so please make sure they have the best time in their immortal life.” He says, perched on the bar. “We will also accept humans that are not on the menu, obviously. But only humans, no other creatures go through these doors.”
The orgy room has been cleaned for this big occasion, the private blood-sucking rooms build for privacy, and drugs are provided and will be handed to any human in search of a thrill by Blake. Some vampires come here just for drub blood.
Everything is set. They can be proud of themselves. This has been months in the making. It’s maybe the club's biggest event of the decade. With luck, it can beat the Y2k bash they had thrown some twenty years ago.
Daniel is still tensed about the whole party, his club reputation could go up in flames with just one little fuck up, it needs to be perfect. Michael suggests he just take a drink and relax, but Daniel isn’t hungry, he can’t have any blood right now, too stressed about every single detail.
********
The party is booming. Daniel recognizes a few old friends that still look the same. A massive group of bachelorettes make their entrance, screaming with excitation as soon as they see the vampire stripper in a corner, this is always a hit. Daniel reckons that most of the human girls coming here will taste bitter, a lot do, jealous of the future bride. A few fellow vampires from England are already drunk. Blake comes to find Daniel to tell him he’s selling like crazy and really this is an overall success. Everyone seems to have a great time.
An old fling from decades ago tries to drag him to the orgy room. That’s never been Daniel’s scene. Maybe that’s where is true age shows. Or maybe it’s because he’s just an old romantic soul that believes you can find a soulmate, that sex isn’t just a vice you need to suppress or give in to. He’s been told too many times he’s no fun when he doesn’t want to do anything else than monogamous sex. Blake told him too many times that he’s an old boring fuck.
“I actually need to deal with this,” He tells his ex, pointing to the bar.
A waiter just pointed to a guy, signalling to Daniel that there is a situation. He just spat back all of the blood he tried to drink.
Humans don’t order Daniel’s special, they stick to regular alcohol, overpriced cocktails and cheap beer, they drain his supplies quicker than he can drain blood. You’d have to be a vampire to know about the special. Vampires are never picky about their drinks.
There is a fucking intruder in his club. The party is ruined, everything is fucked.
He calms himself down. He won’t fire whoever let the guy in, but he’ll have a talk with them, later, once he’s actually dealt with this.
He follows the dirty blond-haired man who jumped out of his bar stool and ran all the way to the toilets. They both cut the line and human guys protests like they are the ones owing the place. Daniel doesn’t have the time to suck the blood out of one of them just to prove a point. He grunts in frustration and orders those inside to get the fuck out.
“Use the women’s bathroom for all I care,” Daniel shouts at them in his most commanding voice. “Come out!” He orders the intruder.
It’s just a couple of seconds of silence before he hears throwing up.
Daniel sends the bathroom stall door flying into the room. It breaks against the wall. Daniel will feast on whoever is in there.
Crouched over the bathroom toilet, the guy wiped his mouth on his black shirt. As soon as he lifts his head to glance at Daniel, he sees them, the yellow eyes, and the fake vampire tooth.
“That shit was absolutely disgusting.” He says, getting back on his feet.
“Who the fuck are you? And how the hell did you get into my club.” Daniel asks, furious.
“Oh, your security guard got fooled by my fake teeth. Didn’t even ask for my name, of course.”
Daniel will kill that fucking guard, screw the gentle talk.
He dives towards him, lifting him off the ground, grabbing him by the throat. The guy doesn’t look scared or even surprised. In all Daniel’s career, this is a first.
“I’ve always wondered if it was true, if you could, like, fly.” He says, looking down at his dangling feet.
“Who the fuck are you?” Daniel asks again, menacing. The guy doesn’t yield. “I will kill you.”
“Wait.” He holds a finger up and pulls on his glued fake fang.
Daniel is baffled.
They kiss, or rather the guy presses his lips against Daniel and fucking hell, his whole body just shakes with desire as they just make out, heavily for long minutes, Daniel's hand still wrapped around the guy’s neck.
He gets stripped out of his clothes in no time and then taken against the bathroom sink, hard and fast. He can’t help all the noises he makes. Shame he can’t see what he actually looks like in the mirror. He’d love to see how he looks right now.
They kiss again when he’s pounding into him, and he tells him his name, Max.
Daniel fucks him against a wall. Max is hot, like burning hot, not just metaphorically, his sink almost burns Daniel, his mouth feels like it’s on fire. And holy hell, the things he does while Daniel is buried deep inside of him, it’s still banned in some states. He wants to do that for the rest of his life.
They break a sink in their third round. Daniel is pretty sure the lights have flickered when he comes on their fourth fuck. They’ve trashed the place, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed.
It’s the best sex he’s ever had, in his 569 years. It was mind-blowing, so filthy and hot he’ll only think about it for the next hundred years to come.
He doesn’t want it to be a one-time thing, It was too good not to do it again. This would mean letting a demon in his club, which is still against the rules, but Daniel can bend or break them, especially for Max.
“Maybe you have an address I can send a raven to, you know, in case-” Daniel starts.
The men's restroom slams open and Max is out the door.
“Here, I’ve found a wonderful group of widows who’ve just come here to party. I know you like those.” Blake tells him when Daniel comes back into the club.
He’s not hungry.
He locks himself in his office during the whole weekend, misses all the festivities and special guests and only leaves when the party has died down two days later. Maybe he should be less of a romantic and more ruthless, that would spare him the heartache.
******
“I see you still got the same security guard.” A voice Daniel recognises says on a quiet weekday night. “Or did you lift the ban on demons now?”
“Demons???” another voice whispers under their breath, so frightened.
Daniel turns around to meet Max. He doesn’t look sorry, or happy to be here.
He’s got company, a freshly engaged couple, it’s written on the woman’s badge she wears on her chest. They are cute, typically American, just like Daniel likes them. They are holding each other's hands, standing close to each other, he’s trying to protect her. It’s so fucking cute.
“Who are your friends?” Daniel asks him, without even greeting Max.
“This is uhm…” Max can’t seem to remember their name. “Josh and Malaury, they’ve got engaged. Take it as a kind of apology present.”
“Aww, really?” Daniel asks, softened by the thoughtful attention. Max shrugs. “Well come on guys, let me get you something to drink.”
He invites the couple over to a table and watches them relax after they’ve down their drink. Josh kisses Malaury’s temple, and Daniel can’t help but sigh. They are too adorable. Max snorts and looks at him.
“What the fuck was that?” He asks.
“They are too cute. I can’t kill them!” He argues, bashing his big brown eyes at him.
“I can. If you want to. Snap their neck or some shit like this.”
Josh has tensed up again but doesn’t look their way. Daniel looks unsure.
“I don’t have feelings, so it’s fine, of course. It won’t affect me.” He adds.
“Oh, I don’t know.” He says.
In two swift crack of their necks, Max puts an end to the couple’s life and sit back down next to Daniel watching him drink out of their neck.
It’s exquisite. The best thing Daniel has ever tasted.
“Oh yeah. It’s because they are dumb fucks actually in love.” Max replies, sipping on his strong gin and tonic.
“How do you know? Do you taste blood often?”
“No, it’s their feelings.” He rolls his eyes at that. “Stupid people taste like fast food, depressed one are very bland, assholes, well you know, that’s where they got the name, of course. Entitled people are spicy.”
“I haven’t had spicy food in centuries,” Daniel tells him, trying to remember what it tastes like.
“Still hungry?”
They hunt Vegas at nightfall. The Bellagio is crawling with them. The reception staff gladly let Max handle some of the worst situations. He knows this place by heart, lives there even.
Daniel looks excited when he brings him the first one. She starts yelling at him because Max told her Daniel was the manager. He covers her mouth before sinking his teeth into her neck. The first sip is always the best, it tingles on his tongue. He loves it.
They become a team. Max does the hunting during day time and brings the prey to the nightclub. He brings more people in, and the business just grows. So they cut a deal. Max gets 10% of the earnings of the bar. Daniel gets Max.
They have an obscene amount of sex when they are not working, everywhere, causing damage almost every time. It’s always incredible, and Daniel can’t get enough.
Daniel doesn’t feel jealous of Michael and his 68-year-old wife anymore. He’s got someone now, his soul mate, that sometimes goes to sit in a church, confesses all of his sins just to upset God and outrage the priest, and then runs out of here, amused at the chaos he’s created, grabbing Daniel’s hand so they run away together.
All of Daniel’s dinners are now selected based on what he wants, Max always picks the best for him, old or young, healthy or dying. He has no remorse for ending a life, however good it could have been. He does it for the kicks, he does it for Daniel.
Time flies, and soon Max and Daniel celebrate their ten years of partnership at the club. That night Michael’s wife dies in her sleep, unexpectedly. Daniel has to watch his friend suffer all over again. He hates every part of it, and regrets being selfish all these years ago when he thought having his best friend by his side was the best idea. He could have spared him the grief, the ache, the longing for someone that will never come back.
In a couple of months, maybe a year, or two, Michael will say it was worth it, that he at least got to live all those years with her, that he got to love someone so deeply he can’t forget her.
It resonates with Daniel, he can understand now, why you’d put yourself through all the heartbreak because the person brings you so much more for so long. The loneliness has gone, there isn’t a day where Daniel isn’t with Max. They fight, mostly when Max is bored. But they make up, and it isn’t just some world-shattering sex, there is tenderness too. He loves him, deeply, he has for a long time now.
Daniel feels sick to know he could lose it all. If Max dies, he’ll walk off and wait for the sun to rise.
He never studied anything about vampires or any other creatures he encountered. He’d never met a demon before Max. He doesn’t know how long they live, or what could kill them. He regrets never doing that.
“I can hear you think,” Max says when they are in bed, legs tangled together. Daniel listening to his beating heart. “Spill it out.”
“I’ve always wondered how long demons live.” He confesses.
“No you haven’t,” Max replies, honestly. “This is about Susan, isn’t it?”
“No.” he lies.
Max shakes his head.
“You don’t have to worry about me.”
He does. Unlike Daniel, Max looks a little bit older now.
“You know I’m older than you, of course?” It’s meant to be a fact, something that was there, just under Daniel’s nose. “I’m not going anywhere.”
He holds Daniel closer, his heart swelling when he feels Daniel smiling against his chest.

Cupid's demanding back his arrow ficlet
In the fic, Max wins in Austin, but I wrote something for after the Japanese Grand Prix because I was inspired.
Max is tired, maybe a little drunk still, gross and shocked. He’s just flown back home, celebrating his second world championship title on the plane with his friends but refused the last couple of glasses of champagne or shot that they offered.
He hasn’t changed out of his sweatshirt, wears his cap low on his head to hide the bags under his eyes and his hangover face, even in the back of the private cab that’s taking him home. He checks his phone, then locks it. He barely had time to call his family, or had enough time to let it sink in, but he did change his screen saver to the picture Daniel sent right after he was crowned 2022 world Champion. A picture of Daniel and Olivia, with a piece of paper in front of them that reads “Our world champion” with tones of heart. The paper has been torn up on the left corner, no doubt the work of his daughter. The taxi ride home feels longer than the plane ride. He just wants to come home.
Daniel watched the Grand Prix from the comfort of Max’s home. It becomes a ritual on race weekends. They go there so that when Max gets back home they are here, ready to welcome him.
Daniel wanted to be awake when Max got home, he even made a banner with what he could find and wanted to see his reaction. But the early wake up at 5 am, courtesy of his daughter, the race being delayed and the overall roller coaster of emotions, he crashed on the sofa, He wears his favourite oversized hoodie, one he got last year in Abu Dhabi, heavily pregnant, gifted the team when Max became world champion for the first time. He’s worn it for every race, just like Olivia almost wore a Max Verstappen onesie for every race.
She’s also asleep, hiding under Daniel’s hoodie, laying on his chest. He’s got a protective arm around her back and jolts every time she moves. For once she managed to keep her clothes clean, a true miracle when Daniel usually has to change her twice or more a day.
Max expects the door to open as soon as he turns the key in the lock, but finds that no one is eagerly waiting for him on the other side.
He kicks his shoes off, drops his backpack and suitcase in the hallway. He notices the banner, there is a tiny hand painted on it, it makes his heart burst. He finds them on the couch, with the TV on, little brown curls coming out of Daniel’s hoodie. Olivia wants to be close to them, especially on race weekend, and Max hates it. He hates that he can’t be the one to hold her like that. But finally, he’s home, and he’ll get to hold her, play with her, and spend as much time as he can before the next race.
“Hey, honey,” He whispers close to Daniel’s ear, before kissing his cheek.
Daniel twitches, and then opens his eyes. He smiles as soon as he see Max, perched above him, looking so tired and so fucking good.
“Well, hello Mr. Two time world champion.” He makes room for Max to lay next to him, and as soon as he shifts a little, Olivia wakes up.
She goes straight into Max’s arm, snuggling against him, while he explains in full detail his title winning race to Daniel who listens carefully like he never watched the race from his boyfriend’s on board. Occasionally Max kisses Olivia’s forehead, she smiles when he does and holds him tighter.
While Daniel goes into the kitchen to get the cake he ordered especially for the occasion, Max lets it all sink in. He won again, unexpectedly, after the delay and the results. He thought he would win in Austin, he had it all prepared, even got Daniel and their daughter to come with him. At least there won’t be the pressure of the title, they’ll get to enjoy it more.
He feels even happier, sitting on his couch, eating the best cake he’s ever had with his family than when he was thrown in the air by his crew.
They don’t do anything special. There are big parties to go, places to be, interviews to give, but Max declines all of them and this time Daniel isn’t mad at Max for sticking around a little longer.

Baby just tease me, got not family plan - Bella Growing up part 1
Bella screams in Daniel’s face when he picks her up from school because she doesn’t want to hold his hand on the way back. She goes all limp and refuses to stand straight, she kicks and cries.
He’ll only say it to Max, because he said it first, but sometimes he wants to scream back, louder than her, or drop her back in school. Gentle parenting is all bullshit when neither of them has had enough sleep. He carries her over her shoulder while she keeps crying and kicking and he breathes through his nose all the way.  He might fight anyone who wants to come up with advice though.
He grounds her when they make it back into their flat. She cries even harder and his heart breaks, seeing her like this, but she needs to learn it’s dangerous, and that he’s in charge. He checks on her in her corner. She’s sulking, mumbling to herself. She’s stopped crying, but her cheeks are still wet from all the tears she cried.
“Are you calm now?” He asks in this prudent tone, unsure that she is. She nods her little hand. “What do you say?”
“Sorry, Dada.” She pouts her lips and looks up at him with her big blue eyes. “Kangoo.” She whines.
“Go get him,” He pats her hair and she runs to her bedroom to get her favourite cuddly toy.
It’s missing part of his nose, a result of all the time she played with it before falling asleep. A soothing technique she picked up on her own.
She gladly accepts the hug Daniel is offering, holding on tight to his neck before rubbing her nose in his beard, like she does before bed. She’s exhausted, full days at the big girl school are filled with discoveries and fun. She’s got too much to talk about, the stories they’ve read, the drawings she’s made, the friends’ parties she’s been invited to.
It must be overwhelming to remember all this to share with him, to learn about everything and behave. She is mostly good with it all, brave even. Max misses three bedtimes a week. She doesn’t complain about it, not even when there are no goodnight calls because he’s in class. She’s always too tired to wake up when later Max comes into her bedroom and sneaks a kiss and adjusts her covers.
It will seem just a small sacrifice, in the years to come. A necessary step for a better life together, but it feels heavy sometimes, to live this weird family life, where there is more sacrifice than reward.
Daniel feeds her favourite, butter pasta and a slice of ham earlier than usual. He needs some rest too. He’s giving in tonight, because her tiny body is still clinging onto him, needing soothing and comfort. She wants to be fed.
She cries again at bath time.
He’s tired too and tries not to let the frustration take over.
He’s kneeling in front of the tube, begging her to let him rinse her hair. She’s got a tight grip on the plastic cup and won’t let go.
“Princess, the quicker you let go, the fastest we get out of the bathtub.” He tries to reason with her.
He sounds just like Max, desperate for peace, ready for war and seconds away from admitting defeat. They’ve agreed to never be too brutal, Daniel knows how much it affected Max when he was little, he doesn’t want to know what it’s like.
He bribes her with a small chocolate and finally he gets to rinse the shampoo off her hair.
There is a lot of compromise and bribing involved on terrible days like this. It’s exhausting. But all the anger goes away when she’s wrapped in her bathrobes and laughs loudly at Daniel’s silly face in the mirror. The way she shouts, again and needs to catch a breath because she’s been laughing too much.
It gets replaced by this indescribable love, a bond they share that can never be broken. She fluffs a pillow for Daniel and leaves room in her bed for him to come and read her a story. She rubs her little noise in his beard while he tells her about the Gruffalo. He’s lulled by her steady breathing.
She falls asleep before the end of the song, and he stays here, purposefully forgetting about the dishes, the dinner he needs to prepare for him and Max, the tidying up that needs to be done. He stays with her, watching her special night light dancing on the ceiling and he wonders if she knows how much he loves her, how much she came into his life and changed everything. He holds her a little closer and kisses her forehead.

Accidental dick pic - Maxiel
What if Daniel accidently sent a dick pic to Max, accidentally like 😳 fuck, fuck, fuck.  It was meant for someone else, obviously, and Max would leave him on read because he really needs time to process all this.
But eventually he would go flirty like "no bad" or "didn't imagine it like that", making Daniel blush harder than ever. And then he would really work him up.
"you must really not like them so much if it's the best you can do"
Not before he tortures him with Max is writing .... and then erase his message. He does it several times.
Daniel doesn't text one back, but he tries to flirt desperately and max loves it. It goes to sexting even. it's filthy and hot. Whenever Max sends a text, Daniel asks for time alone. He's is surprised by Max's dirty side, but not disappointed.
And then the next time they see each other it's 🥵🥵🥵
Like Max can't stop thinking about all the things he said he would do and Daniel is visibly half hard just seeing him.
They ditch Lando for the ride home and start on the plane. Just a nice little handjobs under a blanket while whispering dirty words in each other's ear, hot breath against neck and moans filling the air.
But when they arrive back to their appartement complex it's just hard kissing and pinning against the door.
They don't make it to the bedroom.
They just have time to grab lube. And Max bend Daniel against the counter top in the kitchen and fucks him so good right there.
Daniel should go home and they should forget about this but they are on their second round and right after Max get something out of the fridge to share with Dan because they are starving and thirsty.
Secretly Max has been waiting for this.
They don't define the relationship but it's pretty obvious that after two months of sleeping and doing everything together they are a couple.
