13 and 17 for historical figures ask! Philip IV ofc
Well well WELL thank you for your ask <3333
13. If you had the chance to meet them, what is the first thing you would ask them?
Are we allowed to just,, kindly yet firmly ask our historical figure if they are doing ok? If they need any help? Else I’d just ask him about painting and sculpture and his take on particular pieces and what does Las Meninas (when it was just a portrait of his little daughter and not the worldwide art theory debate starter) actually mean to Your Majesty? (Feels like the surest way to get him talking)
Also I think I would ask him to tell me about queen Isabel, and the children (like prince Balthasar), and queen Mariana, since the information we have about them is unfortunately so limited compared to him— there’s of course the possibility that it’d sadden him to think of his dead first wife and many dead children but who knows! Maybe he’d like to remember them (and he did bring up Isabel himself from time to time so) and I feel it would be so interesting to have the closest and most detailed account possible of all of them.
Honestly I hope putting this question into practice would involve going back in time to meet him (rather than meeting in spatiotemporal limbo or him going forward in time) because. Just imagine the experience. A real life Are Ya Winning Son? meme and he just looks up from his desk and it’s covered in letters and documents and courtier complaints and overdue bills and it’s 4am— No, We Are Not Winning.

17. Is there a song that reminds you of them?
I’m gonna be deeply embarrassing on main and answer this again (thank you so much for indulging me):
Marizápalos, an anonymous and somewhat cheeky 17th century composition about a girl and her boyfriend getting it on where they shouldn't have. Coincidentally, Philip’s most notorious mistress, actress La Calderona, mother of John of Austria (the younger), was apparently nicknamed Marizápalos, as she was said to have sung this popular song very well on stage. In any case, the song is extremely 17th century Spain and it’s a delight and also the fact that it has a direct connection with Philip? Wild. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LgB6w3NGsjA

I’m being greedy but. Another catchy and funky and good humored 17th century popular song: Juan Arañés' 1624 composition Un sarao de la chacona. Has no particular link to Philip except that: 1) Being contemporaries, he might perhaps have heard it in his lifetime (who knows) and 2) This is a party song. Philip liked parties. Ergo this is a Philip song. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bkkBUaASKY4

One LAST ode (im so sorry) to my ability to insert Philip into everything: not to be basic but the famous Catalogo aria from Mozart’s Don Giovanni is just. Almost tailor made. I mean I loved this piece even before all this because it slaps but now it’s just *chef kiss* https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=INF9r5jju0A
