okay, so looking at the suggestions; time for a poll to figure out what we're doing this summer for the art exchange!!

i havent watched the suckening but i completely get the xiv and weylin comparison. i posted a clip comparing the similarities of their voices, i assume their characterizations are also similar enough to make this comparison.

and very good comparison about the differences in schooling!! both being autistic and raised in public school vs raised in homeschooling are both different ways an autistic kid can be messed up later in life, br'aad and xiv illustrate that well. one attempts to be understood, due to a history of never being understood by a variety of people. the other doesn't attempt to be understood, due to a history of never being understood by one person. really fascinating!!!

people are saying "oh br'aad and xiv are literally the same guy" and while i see that. and while i get that they're really similar. they read as very very different to me both with how slime voices them and how their personalities are.

br'aad covers his social awkwardness up by being nice and attempting to be goofy. xiv will literally just unprompted ask you if you're going to eat that roach mulch without a hint of realizing they said something utterly wild.

in other words br'aad is crazy while xiv is standing behind him and exercising their scary dog privileges.

Damn getting the annual cry about that one Br'aad and Sylnan edit to Ikanaide out the way early, huh?

(If you have not seen it, it is on YouTube. It is life changing. Trust me. It has been living rent free in my head for a good few years now despite cossy livs)

i fucking figured it out. xiv and br'aad are similar in the sense that they're both very self concious people hiding their issues with confidence, showmanship, and tricker behavior. however, br'aad is really really nice while xiv is!! kinda mean about it!!

there are two really big examples that show this different:

first, xiv grew up in a rich environment, but was neglected, abused and sheltered from others. br'aad grew up in poverty, but still frequently interacted with others while still being abused because. being poor is inherently traumatizing for a child. one has knowlege of most social norms/behaviors, and attempts to follow them in an attempt to be "normal", and the other has VERY little idea that they exist.

and the second, which directly ties into the first... how they behave around kids.

now, we all know br'aad does not like hurting kids. he doesnt want kids to hurt the way he hurts, he sees him and his brother in those kids, ect ect. he knows that hurting children is incredibly morally and ethically wrong, and that no kid, regardless of actions, should deserve harm.

xiv, mostly, is used to an abusive enviroment where them, a child, was frequently harmed, belittled, and hurt. this, as is, is enough for xiv not to make the connection that regular children aren't used to this behavior, but i have a really fucked up headcanon.

i think xiv's minimal interaction was between the children of their father's friends, and i think due to how their father is, they might have been forced to fight each other to "prove their strength" is.

so if we take that, with xiv working out their doubts about their father's problems, and still. maybe not realizing that little kids about the age of the kids at the tiefling grove, 8 or 9. shouldn't be chased around by staffs and screamed at and All Around Scared. yeah uh!! they might be slow to realize that kids being hurt is kinda really bad!!

anyway with that being said i think br'aad and xiv would be friends but for fucking sure they'd kinda hate each other at first. xiv'd just talk casually about how they scared a kid so hard they went to jail and didnt know what to do about it and br'aad be like WHAT THE FUCK.
