In a way, I think it’s understandable if the person is, say, a youngish child (think maybe like 8 to 14ish). Some may be just getting into the franchise without having the context - they do a literal close reading of the stories without realizing it. Then the ball is dropped, and the insecurity, self loathing, even defensive anger sets in. And that’s perfectly fine. Those of us who have been into the series for so long have had to mourn the loss of something that was, to them, so pure and welcoming to them in one way or another. It takes time to let go of all that and be able to move on, and that’s okay! Get the anger and sadness out, look at the disgust you feel and figur eout why it’s there, accept that your anger is valid but so is the anger towards a series you once cherished. It gets easier to move on from there. I’d give the benefit of the doubt to someone in that sort of situation.
But for those who are adults, who have been there since the first movie and beyond, who KNOW what Joke Kuck Rolledoats is really like, who have read/heard her hate speech and her takes on political suppression, and they STILL support the franchise or The Joke herself? Those assholes can take a broom up the ass.
i'm so tired of critical takes about jkr that still take the time to reassure fans that their nostalgia for the series is still valid or whatever. i'd think your complicated feelings about a children's fantasy franchise would be an unspeakably minor priority compared to that threat of actual genocide that trans and jewish people are facing, but sure yeah it's fine that you still like butter beer and fantasize about playing quiddich
