dedicated post (this is the last one i promise) for my chise playlists. meant to be songs to represent her character AND songs i think she would listen to. the "sub-playlists" have all the same songs as the master playlist, but since it was so big i wanted to categorize it based on high/low energy levels and positive/negative connotations. hatori - the original. 275+ songs.
(the dragon) - neurotic and volatile, like screaming out for a home that no longer exists. Kikuo, MARETU, The Amazing Devil. 80+ songs.
(the familiar) - quick and determined, like a twinkle of laughter chasing fireflies through thickets of trees. AURORA, Florence + The Machine, YOASOBI. 70+ songs.
(the wanderer) - low and hopeless, like the lethargic beating of a heart that begs for rest. Daughter, Kalandra, Paris Paloma. 60+ songs.
(the husband) - calm and comfortable, like finally resting your head on a plush pillow after a long day. Hozier, Mree, Mahoyome OST. 60+ songs.
#THIS IS THE LAST POST ABOUT MY CHISE PLAYLIST I PROMISE#you may notice i have a lot of jpop and europop/altrock. this is because she is a japanese girl living in europe.#i blame dierker. ever since that post about whether chise would listen to kikuo i just went double insane#and then i realized that my playlist is almost 18 hours long and#putting it on shuffle gives me mood whiplash when i go from a nice lullaby to hatsune miku screaming in my ear#yes i add to it constantly yes i am always taking recommendations#thank you for your patience.#tamb#the ancient magus bride#mahoyome#chise hatori#mahoutsukai no yome

Barbie: An essay. Accepting Hyperfeminity
A Film Beyond Feminism
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧
Yesterday I had the biggest privilege to watch Barbie and it really got me thinking that I do indeed have a lot of things to say about it. This purely how I feel and all of my emotions that I am pouring into the screen, some may agree some may not and that is okay.
Phase one : Feminism, Love & War
The theme of the film is indeed feminism but what a lot of people are not talking enough about or overlooking is the fact what a huge impact being girly had been over the years, since the 90's to 2000's the whole plot of girly being associated with being a bimbo really made a lot of women hate or look down upon being a girly girl. To this day even after the release of the film I do feel sorry to say but there are still a lot of people especially women who feel uncomfortable to be girly, they are afraid of being judged for being not smart enough or not being able to be taken seriously.
This whole hate has extended even towards disney princessess. So many parenting books, videos and even women themselves hating on disney princess just because a man saved them when as a matter of fact disney characters go way beyond man saviour. Cinderella just wanted to go to ball and enjoy, despite being in an abusive household she still loved and appreciated people around her she didn't let bad things influence her, if someone says this is toxic positivity then I have to disagree because she genuinely didn't seem delusional. She was smart, witty, cracked jokes, used sarcasm and found peace in talking to animals. This to me at least is mentally strong not toxic positivity. Ariel just wanted to see the human world but she just happened to fall in love along the way, Belle loved the beast because she taught him how to be free from his own demons, she saw, she taught, she gave him the warmth and love he was lacking.
Other thing is people always look down upon love, my question is why shouldn't there be love? One can be independent and yet still be in love. One can dream and still be in love. People these days are so heartbroken and bitter they have shut themselves off of the whole love scene but might I say that love is more than just romantic feelings, love can be between parents and a kid, love can be between you and your dreams/passion/goals, love can be between you and your pet, love can be between you and the stuffed animal toy you have had since you were a baby, love can even be with knowing when you come home everything is same as it was and it can even be when it comes to changes.
I do believe and hope that after the impact of this film people especially women aren't afraid to be girly because a woman who is girly, love shopping, getting nails done, lives for colour pink, does makeup is just as much of a feminist as a woman who opposes the girly girl spectrum.
Phase two: I Kennot even
Ken was one of the most well written second lead character, I cannot stress on this enough. How I see the film is that in the beginning Barbie land was actually never really equal per say because the playout of it was so co dependent, yes, I understand that was the intention but I would love to dive deeper. Barbie land is the opposite of real world so just like in the real world the power disbalance was so real. I was really reminded of those days when all men did was work and women weren't allowed to do anything so they just longed for their husbands ro return from work. They dresses up for them, made plans for them and practically lived for them. I loved this scene so much because it really showed that Greta knows about feminism because indeed feminism means women and men are equal and either disbalance can really cause a huge harm and we saw that when kens were constantly fighting for all barbie's approvals and lived life through their partners.
When ken went to real world, he was exposed to patriarchy and for once when he saw men being valued he ran with it, the whole reason he even did patriarchy to Barbie land was just to get Barbie's attention when he said "it doesn't feel nice does it" and "when I came to know patriarchy wasn't about horses I instantly lost all interest" shows that he did all of that just so Barbie notices him.
In a way, well like my opinion I see both Barbie and Ken as victims.
Barbie has been shammed by extremist over the years because people think Barbie has unreleastic body but no one see the fact that barbies were created to give girls hope, Barbie has all the careers and can be huge inspiration to little girls everywhere that a girl can be beauty and brains. Barbie was never about making little girls feel bad they were meant to see as "bad" all because of extremists.
Ken was indeed just created to be Barbie's boyfriend and indeed lives up to the name "just Ken" but this film really made us feel his importance too! Towards the end when kens finally have a job assigned by president they have somewhere to start and have their own identity. They will be more than just kens and partners.
Phase three: Conclusion
Both of them had their own journey of self discovery, both of them also had break downs, gave up and kens made bad decisions but they didn't know any better but along the way they really grew up and mentally became mature.
Greta really knows what she did and really captured the prefect ambiance of what needs to be showed. She really gave both characters such depth and love, she really is very talented and I love her for making a film that goes beyond feminism, it is much more than women empowerment. This film not only showed us strong woman power but also showed that patriarchy is taught never learned, people don't know any better, power of influence and accepting women for wanting traditional life as well as accepting who opposes.
I will forever be in favour for this brilliant film. Much love to Greta, cast and behind the scenes cast and of course the colour pink.

What's your favorite music album(s)?
oh my god. alright. i have so many in mind that i really like. so.
Well my all-time favourite has gotta be none other than Viribus Unitus by Dragony. I fucking love this album so much, the premise is so ridiculous but also fun and goofy and it feels like it was written specifically for me. The album tells a story about WW1 and Austria-Hungary's participation in it while putting a massive spin on history that includes dark magic, a zombie apocalypse, and more. I'm not good at explaining things but if you want, you can read the entire synopsis here and I guess there are a couple songs that I tend to skip while listening to it but nontheless it is a very good album. cough cough Love You To Death is the best song cough cough. Oh, and since we're talking about Dragony, Masters of the Multiverse is also worth checking out. That album is also full of bangers.
There is also Into The Enchanted Chamber by Timeless Miracle. Its the only album that the band released before disappearing, and every power metal fan eventually discovers it either as a blessing or a curse i'm sure, but goddamn its so good. I really love the sorta dark and gothic theme that the entire album has with its songs - again it's another album thats right up my alley. Good shit.
The last power metal albums I really like is The Monumental Mass: a Cinematic Metal Event by Powerwolf. If you listen to it in order, the songs are set up so the ending of one song blends into the other and I just really love it when albums do that. Also the slightly more intense and... well... cinematic sounding covers of their songs sound nice - Dancing With The dead in particular sticks out to me especially with the loud drums in the latter half. I often listen to this while i'm playing minecraft alone.
If you like folk rock, Herzblut by dArtagnan is absolutely full of bangers. Ruf der Freiheit, Mosqueteros, and The Riddle are my personal favourites, I couldn't stop listening to them on repeat the moment it came out. I also still find it a little crazy that they did some collabs with Visions of Atlantis, like I did not expect them to do a song together, this is like the music equivalent of some crazy cartoon crossover for me. Speaking of, Pirates II - Armada by Visions of Atlantis has SOOO many good songs aswell, this band in particular just keeps getting better with every release. Hellfire is peak.
For more history stuff, Foreign Skies by the Dreadnoughts is an album about WW1. Black Letters and Back Home in Bristol always get me a little emotional, and there's an EP that goes with this album called Foreign Sides (B-Sides) that you don't want to miss. Additionally, I've already mentioned it before but Pack Up Your Troubles - Wartime Favourites by The Billy Watson Band & Singers has a bunch of good history songs and its one of few albums where theres not one song that I skip.
As for classical music, my go-to for when I want some nice calming background music is this nifty little album simply called Viennese Violin by Michael Snyman and the Brooklyn Theatre Salon Ensemble. Alot of the songs in it are pretty short compared to the regular pieces that I listen to, and they all sound very nice so I guess thats another no-skip album on my list. This one is a bit of a random one but Komzák, Kmoch, Fučík: Old Czech Marches and Dances by Czech Philiharmonic also has a nice collection of songs, all of them sound very regal and/or energetic. We got some songs by our boy Fučíc in here. You know, the guy who wrote the circus theme. If regular old classical is too boring then you can listen to the album Wiener Blut by Céline Roscheck which are essentially violin dubstep remixes of a bunch of Strauss songs. I fucking love Strauss, he's probably my favourite classical music composer, so I really lost my shit when I first listened to her remix of Tritsch Trastch Polka and Radetzky March.
If you want something darker and cabaret-ish, Red Hot & Holy by Sarah and the Safe word and Counterfeit Arcade by Shayfer James are good to check out. I don't really know what else to say, just go listen go them.
As for lately, i've been listening to did an oopsie by Uamee alot. It's his latest release and I dunno man, he kinda cooked with this one - ESPECIALLY Dirst Ej Cake. I've also been listening to Rokotsu by syundou lately, it wasn't recently released or anything but that one is also great.
ANYWAYS im cutting the rant short here otherwise i'll be up all night talking about music. As much as I would love to, I have to work tomorrow so I can't.
#ask#funnily enough i dont actually listen to music by the album 90% of the time so ive been digging through the discographies of all my#favourite artists trying to find which albums have the most saved songs in them and then talk about those#what the fuck are these recommendations even. man#hello welcome to my music taste we have power metal. german folk rock. trashy russian rave music. military marches. and. jpop.#sooo many EPs i wanted to mention but i couldn't because they technically aren't albums#god. alright. no more yapping. im going to bed. goodnight.

love and eros may have actually been the best jdrama ever
my lovelorn for lost underapreciated japanese media may stick with me til the end of time I'm afraid. It's how unknown it is that really makes me love it even more. I actually don't know how I feel about the best art getting so little attention and being lost to time. On one hand I like it but then again I wish the people involved would have been able to get recognition. But the again it's possible the Japanese purposely didn't want their precious gems to be given to the west because it would have been changed and altered to fit a wider audience and then it would no longer be art. It would just be a product for mass consumption. I kind of want to write a whole series of my favorite J ent pieces. It's so interesting that Japan actually went out of their way many times to make sure their works wouldn't be spread to those who don't appreciate it. Anime was...as hayao miyazaki would say A MISTAKE. It's the only piece of Japanese media that became heavily focused on reaching a global audience and making a ton of money from it. It's their K-pop. Though with Anime it's just cartoon pictures being objectified and commodified but with K-pop it's people. Still both had a great effect on the economy and a terrible influence on the culture as a whole. The otaku's in Japan and the fan culture in Korea both swirled out of control and ended up having a hand in lowering the birth rate. So art truly is a powerful thing.
This work was one I actually stumbled on when I was on a j ent binge, this and a few other japanese 90s dramas really fascinated me. This one was intriguing and memorable because it was the first time I was aware that whatever Korea had continued with using idols in drama's to boost the rating Japan had most defintely started.
Nagase Tomoya was a hearthrob no doubt and it is also hard to even find someone comparable to him in the current era. In japan being an idol is just a stepping stone and everyone knows this. There aren't really leaders like in kpop. In fact it's usually the visuals that are just in charge or speak for the group. They are the front men or women and it's normal for them to be the face and do interviews alone in the group's stead. No one is ever super emotional when these visuals become actors nor is there an uproar that they are betraying the group. It's natural and they usually are asked to get into different projects because this will eventually get the group more attention in the end. Japanese groups in some cases have EXTREME longevity. Some groups lasting decades. It isn't always the case but the most popular groups it's moreso a question of dang when are they going to disband. This is because the attitude towards idols in japan is different. There are some cases where idols from fanservice heavy groups do get in trouble from dating but its' important to know in Japan it's more of a hierarchy of groups because idol culture has been around for so long. There are some groups that are more dependent on heavy fanservice to survive and there theme is catering to there fans whereas some groups are more..free. It's clear to see these differences when you see some groups that are very free and others that are very not. In korea although I see that all groups are treated like how fanservice heavy groups are in japan. No matter what age it is weird and not acceptable for them to act in romantic drama's or date. The companies and contracts pretty much all around reflect the mindset of the public towards idols. Where in recent years traditional idol culture in japan is kind of slowly dying and because of that celebs dating is seen moreso how american celebs dating. In korea strangely enough it's like things are regressing. The fanservice is becoming even more intense even though kpop is gaining global fame. More money is being made but it's being made by going super jhorror virtual boyfriend/girlfriend parasocial paralysis demon. It's quite concerning. It could be that in Japan they stopped focusing on real people who eventually would date or get married and leave idol life behind to focus on more vulnerable animated or fictional characters who really couldn't speak or fight back.
I still find it interesting to look at the cultural remains of Japan's idol industry.
I don't even want to get into the tradgedy of Johhnny's boys and what happens when young children are commodified off their looks and sex appeal from a super young age because..it speaks for itself. It was terrible what happened and I do feel that overall it's definitely what is happening in kpop but because of the current hype and popularity honestly nobody cares. Similar to how nobody cared about what was happening in america with the many disney stars who would years later open up about how the trauma they experienced being a childstar would later cause them to become drug addicts or commit self harm. People may feel sorry for them now but the truth is at the time when it was happening nobody cared and that is what made them feel so alone. It doesn't help to pity them after the fact when they have healed and gone to therapy.
Although I think it was rather unfortunate what many of child stars go through I do think the art they leave behind should be treasured even more so because of it. Tomoya was a fabulous actor and I see in him many of the current idols of today that are treasured.
I believe he was extremely lucky given that he was able to stay in a band that spanned decades and have a very successful acting career. When I watched this show not only was I interested in the plot but I also was wondering why were so many idols barred from also having similar opportunities. Some like him were able to act in various projects playing different characters but others were stuck in a box because their fans weren't interested in seeing them any differently. I believe he was such a compelling performer that it allowed him to be accepted by the public as an actor.
but I can't lie Johnny kitigawa's connectiong probably helped as well..also his face plus the fact that he aged well probably helped. Many idols get copius amounts of plastic surgery that does not age well at all
but there are still other decent looking idols that never kept up with the changing tides of the ent industry. On an old translated forum some people were arguing why he wasn't as famous as Takuya Kimura
but I think it's because the japanese love androgyny like over everything Tomoya was just a tad bit too masculine.
In this show though and others like it he starred in he was a silent brooding type so it worked. I don't want to spoil it and this isn't a review basically it's a comparasion of different types of love. Which is ..kind of genius. His character is in a eros or romantic type of love with a woman engaged to his brother. Who has a much more friendly type of love with her. It's probably a metaphor for something but..hmmh oh and it has the iconic Hosho mai
her role isn't that big she is toted as mostly just the tagalong girlfriend but really as the show progresses you start to like her more than the main love interest.
anywayz its a good show very deep if you watch it closely.

Have you listened to Ay-Yo or the other new singles part of NCT 127’s repackaged album? I always enjoy diving into your perspective on groups artistic vision! I never really gave them much time but was sucked into their recent music (I think it’s because of Dem Jointz and Kenzie who helped produce some of the album??). The AY MV wasn’t as flashy as 2 Baddies but I do love a cunt moment and Taeyong delivered for me. I am now so curious about NCT!! You’ve mentioned before that they’re one of the backbones of 4th gen. What do you think it is about the group that has established them beyond others? I appreciate that the songs are experimental and unafraid. The music videos always feel like being sucked into an intense video game and I am here for it lol. Thanks for running such a thoughtful blog btw! Most times I feel like I’m in a little island with too many thoughts but it’s always a fun time checking out your posts.
yes! i love ay yo and the new songs on the repack! skyscraper is my fave of the three but i also really dig dj. dem jointz has actually produced quite a few of 127's title tracks, including cherry bomb, punch, kick it, sticker, and some bsides like right now, time lapse, designer, and nct dream's arcade! kenzie has also done a few 127 tracks including limitless, favourite, and several of my all time fave nct songs ok! and music dance.
sm obvs has big three privilege and for a reason, they have a really long history as one of the founding pillars of the industry since they pretty much invented it. bc of the company's status and their consistency with training their idols + the legacy of the popularity of their groups + the quality of their music, any new group that sm debuts automatically garners a lot of attention, both from the gp and from others in the industry. because of that, they tend to be imitated just by nature of having that much publicity, but nct made a splash with weird choreo and ''noise'' music. the seventh sense was a very unusual debut and no one's managed to level up to it since, even if nct wasn't exactly doing anything that new for the era they debuted in. they're spiritually continuing f(x)'s musical legacy, and the weird choreo + acrobatics of late third gen you can see in other groups that debuted in 2016, like knk and sf9. it's just that they had the higher visibility and outlasted a lot of other groups, so the combination of all those factors is what solidified them as being a significant influence on the subsequent generations.
#sm groups are never TOTALLY new. theyre almost always building on a concept taken from another gen and pointing in a different direction#which is how you should build a group tbh#nct is very strange as a kpop group and profoundly underutilized but even the thing theyre known for (units) isnt even unique to them lol#lsm is so desperately chasing after the jpop mega group model even though it very dramatically failed with suju and exo#bc kpop fans are not receptive to altering established group structures#the fact that nobody's left nct yet is a MIRACLE when you look at how how their predecessors fared#but the basis of their success has to do with being from sm specifically#plus theyre all very well trained musicians (not as in playing instruments as in understanding music)#also all the typical things like: good music good concepts and theyre good performers etc etc#and theyve kind of become the epitome of 'good artists pulling off insane/''bad'' music/concepts bc of their skills'#id recommend watching their dingo killing voice bc you can see them absolutely wipe the fucking floor#actually there's also a drunk version of designer that they did and where the rapline totally forgets their verses#(even though they have lyrics in front of them)#i have a TONNE of nct playlists if you want recs they have a huge catalogue and it's so good#kpop questions#nct#nct w#text#answers#the tldr of this is nct is the backbone of 4th gen bc sm knows how to build a group
