Maneki Vulpus, “Fortune Fox”
Anomaly OC for The Journal Seekers universe
FINALLY FINISHED HER! It took me a couple weeks, thanks to the heavy workload from college, but I finally got around to filling out the colors cx
Pronouns: She/her Nicknames: Neki, Manny Profession: Anomalous Plant Botanist/Conservationist Home: Abyssal Valley Woods Preserve Favorite Plant: Dragonsnaps and Roaming Roses Age: 23? Gender: Female
Click the Read More for the full description! I had a ton of fun devising her abilities. I tried very hard to stick to the rules and guides posted on the official Journal Seekers page, while still sticking to what I thought would fit Maneki (and also what was just fun for me to write as a storyteller Cx)
Abilities / Feats
Feats: Fortune Sense User can sense the presence of objects and entities around them through strong senses of hearing and smell. Through smell, user is also capable of detecting if any void coins come into existence/are present within 80 feet of them, though they cannot determine the exact location. User is capable of detecting whether or not a void coin is real, or a fake. Tapetum Lucidem You’re adapted for nighttime! Not so much for daytime. User is capable of seeing around them in complete darkness up to 100ft, and can also ‘see’ through use of alternative senses to sight (e.g. hearing+smell). When under strong light, User is considered Blinded, and disadvantage is imposed on ability checks and attack rolls. User must leave the strong light in order to remove the Blindness.
Abilities: Flip A Coin - Cost: 1 Void Coin Feelin’ lucky? Caster flicks a void coin from their hand, aiming it at a target. The effect of the thrown coin depends on the user’s desire. If the throw succeeds, the coin detonates. The caster can choose whether or not the coin heals or damages the target for 1d8 of Stamina. If the throw fails, the coin is not consumed, but the caster must pick up the void coin again in order to reuse it. This ability can be used on the caster themselves, in which case the caster flips the coin into the air and catches it, requiring no dice roll for success (dice roll for amount healed still needed). Caster can use additional void coins in the same attack at once to deal additional dice of damage for each, but every coin used is permanently consumed and cannot be regained.
Opposites Attract - Cost: 2 Void Coins Nobody knows how the hell magnets work, but you don’t care! Caster throws 2 Void Coins - one at the target enemy/object, and the other at another target/creature/object (using one dice roll to account for both). If successful, the thrown coins will stick to whatever object/person/target they were thrown at, and the two coins will produce strong magnetic properties, pulling whatever objects the coins are stuck onto towards each other with incredible force. Damage is dealt to stuck enemies depending on how far they are pulled by this attack (the further apart the thrown coins, the stronger the pull), and what they impact with. Relative DC for a success is increased with respect to distance thrown. Void coins used are consumed, and the magnetic force abates after 2 rounds of turns.
High Roller - Cost: 3 Void Coins + 10 Stamina You’re going for broke! Caster uses 3 void coins to attempt to cast a random Area of Affect for a 20ft radius in an area specified by the caster. If successful, the AoE type is then determined by rolling a d4 (1=fire, 2=poison, 3=cold (frost blanket), 4=piercing (spike trap)). AoE radius lasts for 4 rounds, and deals 1d6 of its respective damage type per round. Movement within the AoE radius is halved. If the attack roll succeeds, the 3 coins are consumed and the caster suffers -10 Stamina. If the attack roll fails, the coins are not consumed and stamina is not reduced, but the caster cannot take another action that turn.
Background
This is Maneki! Essentially, she’s a Manekineko design-based anomaly, but a Fennec Fox instead of a cat. Her magic revolves around the use of Void Coins, the unique mechanic of the Journal Seekers universe. However, unlike the regular use of void coins (absorption of power to restore stamina or powering alternative abilities/spells), Maneki requires the coins themselves in physical form, in order to perform her magic properly. As such, she has a tendency to keep on hand the void coins she discovers in her part of the Abyssal Valley, for emergencies. She typically carries at least 5 void coins on her person as she goes about her business, for safety reasons and to assist with her occupation. The source and functional nature of her magic is unknown.
Her home rests in the Abyssal Valley, a wood nestled in a ring of very large mountains. Due to the slight, odd bowl-like shape of the mountains and the dense forest of very tall coniferous trees, the valley itself is said to be in ‘permanent nighttime’ darkness save for very short periods of the day. Maneki lives deep in the center of this valley, where it’s darkest, as this is the safest location to keep her various minor anomaly plant creatures from prying eyes of people who would uproot them for their rare attributes. Her house is a cozy wooden cabin, with an adjacent greenhouse and farming pasture with extensive irrigation, where she lets her plant friends settle down and roam between fertilizer mealtimes. She possesses very little technology on her property - the only technology she owns consists of an old radio (she loves music channels) and a landline phone that she barely knows how to use.
Maneki grows and raises minor anomaly plant species that are endangered, until they’re large enough to take care of themselves, at which point she will release or replant them. Some of the plant creatures she raises have a low level of sentience- closer to a non-anomalous animal’s level of intelligence, such as in the Dragonsnap. The rest are completely non-sentient plants, but exhibit supernatural qualities that she tries to preserve and proliferate, due to them being hunted to near extinction by adventurers of ages past. The minor anomaly plants range from succulents to flowering, with various effects depending on the species. (For example - the petals of a Roaming Rose can be boiled in tea to make an instant cure for Scarlet Fever and the hiccups.) Her most prized and protected plant minor anomaly is the Shadow Violet, an extremely rare flower, only one of which that she can confirm still exists in the Abyssal Valley. Very little is known about this blossom, but the stem and leaves are said to glow vibrant yellow green, and that the petals are made of pure darkness. Due to the extremely endangered nature of this plant, Maneki tells no one where the Shadow Violet that she owns is located on her preserve.
Many dangers lurk in the Abyssal Valley, outside the boundaries of Maneki’s preserve. During the mysterious emergence of void coins across the world, void coins spawned all over the Abyssal Valley wood. Many creatures and plants have begun to mysteriously take advantage of the strange currency, and often take measures to mimic the size, shape, and color of void coins to avoid being eaten... or to lure in potential prey with the metallic shine. Maneki relies on her strong senses to determine real coins from the false mimics, for her own safety.

It is my boi! And I am excited to play him again in Journal Seekers!
The Seeker Files: Character Bios: Wynter & Hearth
Tumblr media
Name: Wynter Human, Class: Animal Handler
Background:
For the longest time, Wynter had lived within the rural farmtown of Canopy Hills. He had lived within the town ever since they were a child, and for their entire life they had spent their time tending to the crops of his family’s farm and the animals that lived within Canopy Hills. As time passed, Wynter left his hometown to explore the world and become a Journal Seeker, with the help of Caitlin Cogs who Wynter had met before when she had come to visit Canopy Hills one day.
Wynter set off into the world, with their faithful hawk companion Hearth in hopes to find other kindred souls out in the world and see what there is to see.
Fieldnotes (Fun-Facts!):
-Wynter was originally a character who had been in both Pathfinder and  Dungeons and Dragons 5e systems, however after those games had fallen through, he had undergone some reworking and became a part of the world of Journal Seekers.
-Dispite the fact he is called Wynter, he actually doesn’t like the winter season. The cold makes him irritable and act out of sorts.
-Wynter often falls behind his team due to the fact he easily gets distracted and wants to look at everything with Hearth.
-Hearth’s Birthday is March 16th, and Wynter always makes sure to celebrate it every year!
-Wynter likes Ice-Skating and wants to do it with his party members at some point.
Wynter is played by @nezumegamakaeru
