16. Characters are greeted by two beings the size of children but with pumpkins for heads arrive with a cart, gesturing for characters to get in.

"come on, kid." howl pokes josie's shoulder, rolling her eyes as he steps forward. "we've made no progress for however long it's been, worst case scenario is we have to fight the pumpkin kids. just get in the cart with me."

"what are these people doing?" lizzie questioned, their brows drawn down as they glanced between the weirdly dressed people and the person that was supposedly their twin sister. "did someone decide to play dress up and just come into this thing? what a strange thing to do."

This wasn't a new feeling, a unicorn slug creature had entered her brain once before, altering every thought and action. It was something Josie hated, being controlled like a puppet, yet as usual that's where she found herself. When she was out of this, there was going to be some serious therapy needed, to help move out of this rut. If anyone would know something was off it would be Luna Mikaelson. The siphoner grew close to the woman, helping her through the pregnancy and then the grief of her death.

The carnival atmosphere mixed with inhibitions being thrown out the window, caused a grin plaster on Josie's face. Making her way through the crowd, cotton candy in one hand, taking a bite at each turn. Once Luna was in her eyesight, she skipped over waving, excited to be in the presence of a close friend. "Luna! Hey!" Her voice a bit higher pitched than normal. "I am loving the hair today." Normally the compliments didn't just flow out of her around the other, knowing to give them in doses, but she had no filter. "Can we go on a ride together? I think the bumper cars would be fun, it also helps get out aggression, so that's a bonus."

it was a whirlwind of a party but not in the way josie had been hoping for. the siphoner left with only a few cuts and bruises, the rest of her friends seemed to take a heavier blow. after seeing the destruction that followed all her bad deeds, it had been decided that being dark was just going to put people in more danger. for a year, she was able to live in some violent bubble with ingrid, kaya, and hope, but now it was time to come back to reality.

all of them were renting the same place, so it wasn't hard to find kaya still tending to her wounds. with furrowed brows, josie walked over to the other and let out a heavy sigh. "here let me help you with that." placing her hands over the girls sliced up arms, the siphoner muttered a few words as a warm glow came from her palms, the red skin now going back to it's normal pigment. "are you okay? i can't help but think that this whole attack was planned."

"hey, here, come here--" marley rolled over enough on the bed to sit up on the edge, waving josie forward. "turn around i'll zip it for you." she wasn't going to leave them hanging trying to get dressed or anything. "you wanna grab dinner or something, or are you running out the door?"

it felt like a fever dream, josie watched through the mirror as lizzie got ready for the masquerade, starring as if the girl hung the stars in the sky. for three years, she prayed to so many gods for the person before her to do this again. get ready for some wonderful night, were the only thing on their minds was having a good time. there of course were those parts of the siphoner that felt scared about it all, but it was being heavily overshadowed but how dreamy this felt. honestly, she couldn't put into words, for so long she had been unhappy and now it felt as if that never happened. the twins managed to match in a way, both wearing blue dresses, something that made them giggle because of course.

sitting at the vanity, she applied the last of her lipstick before turning to finally face lizzie. "is the blue eyeshadow too much?" she asked, an eyebrow arched in uncertainty.

She was trying not to be fucking furious at herself for letting someone get close enough to wound her in the first place. She turned away from the mirror to face Josie. "Because he's dead and what remains of him barely looks human."

"i used to think it was gossip but, i know it's real now." josie said aloud to the stranger they'd just started sitting down and talking to. "this city is filled with magic. i can even draw from it."

"i leave for a while and so much as changed." she laughed, not for the worst though. to hear that their mom, caroline, was now headmaster, that was excellent news honestly. "miss me?"

since deciding to turn the darkness off, the siphoner hadn't slept through the night. waking up every few hours, starring at the ceiling and thinking of every horrible thing she had done and because of that, she became clingy. always asking for reassurance from the group, as if they also didn't feel the same heavy weight on their shoulders. pacing the room, josie closed her eyes focusing on the way the wood felt, trying to let that wash over the scenes that played in her mind. yet it wouldn't work so she walked into the kitchen to see hope, looking just as worried and tired. "is anyone else up?"
