PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE FICS OF ALL TIME GOT DELETED and I AM DISTRAUGHT
and i, stupidly assuming it would be around forever, DONT REMEMBER THE AUTHOR OR NAME
I NEED HELP IN IDENTIFYING, AND/OR IF SOMEONE HAS IT SAVED
even if you don’t have/know the fic, please please like or something so this gets pushed out to people who can help 😭😭😭😭
if you’re a literal saint and have read this far, here’s what i remember about the fic
cw; mentions of sewerslide
it was a joshneku fic (from twewy)
it was on AO3
it was either mature/explicit
it had somewhere around 10-18 chapters
the premise was that neku got hired to be joshua’s assistant, joshua’s filthy rich, but his parents died in a car crash and he’s a piano prodigy but can’t write his next composition because he has artist’s block. and hanekoma is worried about him because he’s tried to commit sewerslide before - thinking all his worth is his work, and so if he can’t write, it’s not worth living
josh eventually tries to commit unalive again the night of his performance, but neku saves him, and then josh finally finishes his piece
there was a piano song linked in the fic as well, but i don’t remember what it was called, even though i can hear it in my mind. i will link it if i can find it
i feel ridiculously stupid for not saving this fic, and i now have trust issues with all fic writers. i’m extremely devastated cause it was kind of a formative fic for me, and so if somebody could please, PLEASE help, i owe you my life 😭😭😭😭😭

mamiya theories/questions before i play DDD in full. spoilers for Falldown/Downfall / plus my own speculation
1) I'm still wondering if Yumehisa is Keito's Mamiya and it'd make a lot of sense bc his mamiya is invisible and doesn't have a body, and Yumehisa technically...doesn't either? 🤔 plus there has to be a reason Keito is dear to Yumehisa too and he wanted to save him (but couldn't). i haven't re-read samejima's side in DF (i should) so i forget if natsume makes a connection to invisible mamiya->samejima, but it doesn't really feel like it's him
2) I also once had the theory that Yumehisa was Minato's unborn twin that died/vanished (mentioned in Minato's DF), because of their visual similarities + in Minato's FD route, Yumehisa saying it's Minato who looks like him...Still wondering about this. UNLESS, Minato has...the body that was supposed to be Yumehisa's if he existed as a person? hm HM
3) Cause Yumehisa has many of the Spectator powers but he's something more than that, yet was he ever down on earth/living person who died and was chosen as Spectator? Did he never get a chance to exist in the "real" world thus existing only as a "subjectivity"...hence why he wants to create an illusion that's real so he can be real-real....HMM (i also vaguely wondered if mamiya=the creator but i think that'd be WILD....mamiya is god lol) (i mean) (it's not impossible) (a god who once wanted to help people/those dear to him and the results were catastrophic so he doesn't believe there's another way and in comes a spectator determine to save his friends no matter the odds...challenging everything...it'd remind me a lot of joshneku TWEWY if it was so).
4) BUT ALSO, WHOSE BODY DID PINK HOUSE EAT!! WAS IT NATSUME. WAS IT KEITO. WHO DID THEY VORE. cause in the cutscene that plays when yumehisa shows natsume what the pink house did, yumehisa is shown lying there for a moment (i think) so like hmmmmmmmm....unless they didn't actually eat anyone and it's part of the illusion (also the question is WHEN they decided to do this; if 2003 when keito died, it'd make sense, since he was very close to mamiya so...maybe...)
5) but natsume's death is also still a mystery! and the random bouts of him getting injuries while spectating in the library (the nosebleeds, the cuts) What does it Mean.
6) also the fact that keito and natsume were childhood friends makes me wonder, if keito knew mamiya yumehisa since then and if natsume...may have known yumehisa as well and doesn't remember? HMMMM!!!
7) ryou and keito like, in their FD routes, i think ryou not remembering anything in keito's and not recognizing the place means he went back to keito's time....and in ryou's, keito went to his. the question is HOW the time travel is happening (maybe has to do with 1999 and 2012 overlapping and thus, possible for characters to appear in either time...or at least these two in particular, GOING TO FIND EACH OHTER)
okay that's it for now i think GONNA PLAY. A LITTLE BIT BEFORE DINNER

Ask Meme neku
Fav thing about him: I love the development from “Willing to kill someone he hardly knows to save himself” to “Unwilling to kill someone who has hurt him to save himself because he trusts they’ll do the right thing” like honestly that’s my fav part of Neku’s character…
Least fav thing: this isn’t his fault at all but I really wish he was allowed to like… experience some frustration over his situation in neo twewy, or that we at least got to SEE the development he has from being angry at everything that’s happened to him to letting go of that anger and being the patient person that we see in neo twewy. Because I do love the idea of Neku maturing and becoming a person who doesn’t hold grudges and doesn’t get angry very often because he doesn’t feel like it helps him, but I wish we had seen his growth between A New Day and Neo Twewy…
Favorite line: his whole speech at the end of twewy but especially “I can’t forgive you but I trust you” heehee…
brOTP: Neshiki is the ultimate brotp for me I love platonic NekuShiki so much…
OTP: JoshNeku… my first true otp I think, and definitely my overall favorite ship of all time. The they…
NOTP: romantic Mr. h/Neku is weird to me he is the weird team dad I’m sorry
Random Headcanon: he does a lot of art on the wall in his room at home, he’s constantly practicing his tagging.
Unpopular Opinions: I don’t know of any of my opinions about him are unpopular tbh! Besides maybe that which I mentioned above, that I do like his development into a very mature and patient young man in neo twewy.
Song I associate with them: only one?? How about People by Andrew Jackson Jihad
Favorite picture of them:
He just looks so cute 🥺

It occurred to me when I was saving those rewritten betrayal bracket essays earlier that I use quotes over standard ship names for a couple tags and it amused me that I was typing “Someday Together We’ll Shine Metas” on absolute default despite the other one being Joshneku.
Like it didn’t even occur to me to use the Anthy/Utena portmanteau, I don’t even THINK of them as a portmanteau ship, because the blogs I follow that use ship tags tend to use that specific quote instead of anything else, name included. If you use quotes for shipping tags, that’s the one you pick.
Ditto for the Girl Genius OT3, incidentally - I do SEE agilvek, but the blogs I saw posting about it were generally using quotes for shipping tags and they again zeroed in on “The rest is pointless” as the one for that OT3. (It makes sense when I think about why for a ton of reasons, but it amuses me nonetheless.)
So faced with the discrepancy I decided to save that specific document as “I Can’t Forgive You But I Trust You Metas”, because even though I have no plans to change over to quote tags for organizational purposes as a whole (though I am probably going to settle on “trust your partners” as my TWEWY OT4/OT5 with Eri tag, since I hadn’t quite picked a consistent one and that one will be very easy for me to remember,) there is likewise no question which one it WOULD be if I were going to. Same logic - the single quote that immediately defines the relationship and which you can drop to immediately emotionally destroy a group of shippers.
#homoerotic betrayal bracket#shipping#just for fun I then tried to think which I'd use for the others#though I'm split on neshiki there's two really solid options#it's for fun anyway not practicality

Fics That Have Changed My Life
(AKA all my absolute fav fics across all my fandoms)
Akeshu
L’appel du vide by Xov
Akechi Goro is alive – one of his biggest regrets is alive and standing in front of him looking like he’s ready for some highbrow sports photo shoot when what he really needs is five years intensive therapy and at least five more steps away from Akira. No, no, no – the universe is not allowed to shove this on him so soon after it just flung him three fucking years into the past.
and i felt the fever coming. [oh the wreckage follows] by shenyanigan
Kurusu Akira has survived a lot over the past eighteen years of existence. A false assault charge. A police-sanctioned scopolamine overdose. Bringing a butter knife and twelve penis demons to a fight with god. Learning that yellow was definitely not a color that suited him, no matter what Ann and Yusuke tried to tell him (and no matter how much that gutted him, because damn, those dungarees were cute). He is, in Futaba’s words, “if the ‘I lived, bitch’ meme were a person.” So it comes as a bit of a shock that the last straw is a cold, of all things.
And even more on my separate list of fav Akeshu/Shuake fics!!!
Joshneku
Fate and Other Impossibilities by Lelek
Neku's never wanted to be special. He just wants to be. After three years in Shinjuku, that may no longer be possible.
Unreal Cities by Lelek
Three years is a long time to be dead, trapped in an endless loop of a city's final days and trying to understand what happened to it. No one told Neku that going back to his own life would be the hard part.
1000 Wishes Between Me and You by astersatdawn
He thinks if his life were to be viewed by an outsider they would liken him to a post-apocalyptic movie protagonist: quiet, wandering a ghost town, entering homes and stores and taking the things of use and leaving the carnage behind, and maybe they wouldn’t be wrong; the only difference Neku can think of is he still can’t bring himself to consider Shinjuku completely gone.
long spring rains by lostsunsets
“It must have— really sucked, right?” Shiki says cautiously, delicately, as if she’s wary that Neku may shatter at any given moment. “Being trapped like that, alone.” Neku returns her gaze with a sheepish kind of smile. He isn’t supposed to talk about his time in Shinjuku, his three year time lapse, all of it— but he figures that Joshua owes him just a little.
now i’ve found some clarity by jesstiel (jseca)
Neku's been waiting for Josh to reappear for two years now, since he won the Game and helped save Shibuya. Despite returning to the RG, a part of him is still tied to the UG, a tenuous connection that he can’t quite bring himself to cut. When Josh finally does deign to make an reappearance, Neku realises that sooner or later he's going to have to choose: the RG, or the UG? Set in a world where Another Day didn't happen, exactly, but still contains major NEO TWEWY plot spoilers
The City Sings by ComposerEgg
Neku navigates living with two sets of memories, living in general, friendships, and the mess that is Joshua.
Miyusawa
Situation Normal by Sapphylicious
Miyuki turns into a catboy overnight and some changes are easier to deal with than others.
The path we walk by WindsOfTime
Eijun goggles at the magazine she just shoved into his hands. "W-Wakana!" "I know!" she says, beaming. "That's my soulmate!!" "I know!!" "My soulmate plays baseball!!"
Phantasm by sunbaemint
When humans assassinate their own kinds, they call it a massacre. When humans slaughter otherworldly beings, they name it an exorcism. Sawamura Eijun, however, stands in between.
Flower Marks by bakamura-eijunn (fairietailed)
“You’re a puzzle. A beautiful mosaic of flowers and sunshine and you." -- In which everyone on Earth is born with a flower on their skin, and Sawamura Eijun wears his heart on his sleeve.
Jackpot by Vixenfur
"You know, I'm almost convinced that it was Miyuki Kazuya's bright idea to put a goddamn sex shop right inside of a perfectly normal cafe!" Sawamura threw up his hands. "If it weren't for that place, I wouldn't be as worked up as I am right now!" Haruichi tapped his chin as he nodded along to his roommate's rant. "That does seem like something he'd do... but I don't think that's the only reason you're so worked up over this, Eijun." A college, coffee shop & sex shop AU all in one!
Appeal by Franks22
Eijun’s heat comes three years early, and despite the attention he’s suddenly inundated with, the one Alpha he truly wants to spend it with still feels woefully out of reach.
Ruined Plans by Reyschien
Eijun hasn’t seen Miyuki since he graduated. Sure, they’ve talked plenty since then but it pales in comparison to seeing him in person and getting a glimpse at what months of separation have done to his old partner. They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder and while Eijun has found that to be true, his affections for Miyuki swelling until his heart is fit to burst, he finds that that’s not the only thing that’s grown.
Hall of Fame by Alia_Varrin
Sawamura Eijun has always aspired to be the strongest ranged class that the world has ever seen, however, growing up in a small town, in an even smaller guild didn't amount to a lot of opportunities to really test his abilities. Though, when he is given the chance to join one of the strongest guilds, Seido, he is reluctant. After circumstances befall his guild and with the persistence of his friends, Eijun ventures out to a much larger world of facing the most deadly of beasts with a new guild to help him grow and advance in ways he would not have been able previously. AKA, the one in which baseball teams are guilds and they fight through dungeons and raids with swords and magic for sport.
Sladick
as though i had wings by tospreadthewingsofthesoul
Bruce is back from the dead, and Dick isn't coping well. In fact, he's barely coping at all. It feels as though everything in his life is falling apart. So of course that's when Slade decides to reappear in Dick's life and turn everything upside down. A story about learning to ask for what you need, how to hold your boundaries, and how to trust that the people you love love you enough to help.
hold on to let go by roipecheur
The first time Dick met Deathstroke the Terminator, he was twelve years old, and the mercenary broke his leg and tied him up on a rooftop. In retrospect, Dick thinks it started there. Or, Slade keeps tying Dick up over the years, and Dick can't be blamed for getting his wires crossed.

House of Cards by V. Shalyr
It all started when the strange side effects of yet another failed cure leave Shinichi in the care of an unusual magician.
Paper Faces by Sleeping Moon
When a new school year starts at Ekoda High, Kuroba Kaito is still no closer to discovering the whereabouts of his missing (and favorite) critic. Could a transfer student, the recently returned Kudo Shinichi, provide the clues he needs to find the Edogawa brat?
Morse Code by Miss Emotion
Kudo Shinichi had a bad habit, he tapped his thoughts in Morse code. Bad because if Kuroba Kaito just happened to catch his musings about how he was entertaining the different positions the thief could bend him into... Well it wouldn't be good.
Endless Chase by Desperatembrace
With the Organization on the move for unknown reasons, Shinichi's back to singing his old tune and devoting his entire being—despite coming down with an oddly persistent illness—to taking them down once and for all. Oh, and KID gets involved, too.
Scion by Cleflink
In a world where everyone has an Inheritance, Shinichi hates having to hide the fact that he's a Fire Scion almost as much as he hates being a Fire Scion in the first place. When a KID heist gets complicated by the appearance of an underground smuggling ring, Shinichi's going to have to use every advantage he's got - including his own unwanted Inheritance and a certain irritating Moon Scion phantom thief - to get out of things alive.
Divina Fortuna by Naometry
When Kudo Shinichi was five years old, he had been terrified of the dead. When Kudo Shinichi was sixteen years old, his powers got out of hand for the first time. When Kudo Shinichi was sixteen years old, the Bureau caught up with him for the first time. When Kudo Shinichi was seventeen years old, he got bonded to a familiar. Alternatively: Kudo Shinchi is a necromancer in desperate need of a familiar. Enter Kuroba Kaito.
cinders by 730kc (94k)
"That still doesn't explain what happened back there." The guard just smiled, mysterious, as he snapped his fingers. After the poof of smoke cleared, a rose flourished from his hand. "As expected of the Royal Inspector. Always wanting to know the truth and pick apart the wonders of magic." Conan stared at him as Kaito laughed, light and playful. He tucked the rose into Conan's hand. "Why don't you try dreaming a little?"[Kaishin medieval fantasy AU with a kick of black magic; Shinichi has shrunk, and Kaito is assigned to be his guard.]
The Trust in the Mistrust by cleflink
A bombing at a KID heist leads Shinichi to question the possibility of trust between a detective and a thief.
Let’s Go Get Lost by speckled_dragon
Shinichi always knew he’d leave when no one needed him anymore. He just hadn’t expected anyone to chase after him.
Where the Sky Touches the Sea by cleflink
Personally, Kaito would rather not get into his tragic backstory with his favourite detective, but involuntary physical transformations had an unfortunate way of forcing one's hand.
The Snowy Mountain Bus Crash Case by cleflink
A road trip to meet Sleeping Kogoro's newest client gets derailed when a fatal bus crash nearly takes Shinichi, Ran and Kogoro out along with it. Trapped on an isolated mountain road with the other survivors, Shinichi begins to wonder how much of an accident it really was - and how he's going to stop the person responsible from finishing the job.

Welcome to the Cultys by duplicity
Harry had two main regrets in his life: 1. Asking the question “What if I set up a mock awards show to get cult leaders to show up for my thesis study?” and 2. Responding with “That is hilarious” when Ron had suggested they call the awards show 'The Cultys'.
Kisses Cursed by The_Fictionist
Fairytale AU. Loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Some said he was once a man, cursed, and some that he sold his soul to demons and became one in turn. Others said that such evil as he could never have been human. That he was instead a nightmare, left lingering upon the earth a very long time ago. Harry just knew it wasn't safe to walk near the Riddle House after dark.
You’re Quite the Problem by wulcanbiology
One comment in a fit of anger costs Harry his reputation, safety, and sanity. What will Harry have to do to earn it all back?
draw me after you (let us run) by ToAStranger
“Harry Potter,” comes the soft, sibilant hiss of a voice he has heard in his dreams, in his nightmares, in his waking hours for years. Slowly, carefully, Harry twists over and pushes up onto his hands and knees. He stays there, short breath fogging in front of his face, and his pursuer lets him. Harry has no doubt of that; he’s being allowed this respite. This small moment to catch his bearings, heart pounding in his ears, blood singing. “It seems I have finally caught you.”
The Weight of Gravity by Skylanian_Writer
In May 1995, Harry Potter disappears from a graveyard. In August 1996, Harry Potter is found in muggle London. In September 1996, 16 year old Tom Riddle appears at Hogwarts searching for the boy he had spent the last year with. It only gets more complicated from there.

the space between words by Lea
At twelve, he sank into a sea of words, the characters twining round and round him, until he was breathing in another world and living two, or three, or five, or ten or more lives. Or, where a writer touches a boy’s life, and where it takes six years for the favour to be paid in turn.
more than a spell or a chant by Lea

It was then that he realized just how unnaturally silent the forest was. The only sound to be heard was Gordon’s own heavy breathing as he turned from side to side. It was as if every animal was collectively frozen, holding their breath as they hid out of sight. The air hung heavy in the air, thrumming with a nervous energy as not a single breeze went by. It felt as though time had stopped and Gordon was caught in a loop, unknowing until just then. A twig snapped in the distance. Gordon spun around and faced the noise. In the distance among the tree line was a tall and dark shadow, unnaturally still.

Some au and idea for Joshneku(Neshua)
-Moriarty the patriot au, Joshua as Moriarty and neku as Sherlock ...but we can change the setting in shibuya.
-A pokemon Au! where neku or joshua are pokemon ranger and the other is a trainer and they met when one of them save the other.
-modern au setting where neku and josh with the other play a d&d campaign and the story's campaign is twewy itself. Hanekoma is the dungeon master and he try to do a campaign for his nephew (joshua) because he wants to see him happy and with friends.
-Guardian Angel au. Where neku Lost his and Joshua became his. So, neku Lost his Guardian because of accident. So the higher Plane obbligate Josh to become neku's guardian Angel. At the start Josh was not that Happy about It...but he was curios about the child because this one can see him and touch him. And josh became overprotective and when sanae visit him to say hello to the child, josh puffs up its feathers to warn hanekoma to stay 2m away from the child. Yes we have a jealous josh here.
-Pirate au because i need joshua as pirate captain...there are a lot to talk about this one :D if you want more ...well write to me?
-a hikoboshi and orihime au in modern setting.
-Sugar Sugar rune au There are two option: the simple one Is neku as chocolate, shiki or rhyme as vanilla and Josh as Pierre xD and the rockstar (the adult with violet hair) Is 777 x'D or hanekoma The hard One Is neku is chocolate's and pierre's son x'D
-It's kinda a soulmate au where joshua and neku have the birthstone of the other... the stone can help to find your soulmate in different ways like: it shines when the soulmate is near you. It give a hint of how your soulmate feels: hot(that it burns your skin when the soulmate is angry), cold when is sad, very cold when is depressed, warm when he is embarrassed, and normal when he is neutral. When the stone sparkles a little the soulmate is happy and when it spakles a lot well the soulmate trust you or love.
(i will modify this post if i have other or maybe i will write a new one)

Can I ask what about neo changed your mind on joshneku? I've been feeling sort of similar about neshiki, in twewy I was "meh" on it (although I got why people shipped it, they never seemed connected enough to me), but now my opinion of it has become "this is pretty cute"
I think I might put this under a "read more", because I don't want to risk starting a ship war--even though the TWEWY fandom is really cool, and has never done that, I think--but better safe than sorry:)
I think it was Joshua being like, "So, you don't want to stay here and become Composer, then?", which is of course code for Joshua asking Neku to stay in the UG with him. Or for Neku to stay in the UG in general, with Josh maybe thinkin he belongs there? I don't freaking know. And it's put out as a joke with his tone--and it very well could be a joke, knowing Josh; in fact, I'm thinking it is--but damn, Josh. You're joking about him killing you to get him to stay in the UG... I feel there might be some serious feelings here?
I feel their whole interaction in that scene was pretty cute, too. And it was nice knowing that Joshua "saved" Neku, though I'm putting quotes there, because he also locked him in Shinjuku for three years with some ulterior motives, after that whole "...I don't need him anymore" spiel in A New Day, that we all knew was a lie because of the ellipses there.
And Joshua showing up to help Neku when his syncing up with all of Shibuya had been taking a toll on him, is a pretty spectacular moment, too. Neku is surprised and genuinely glad to see him, you can tell, and calls him "partner."
And then there's that text at the beginning of the game, where someone is saying they hope someone wakes up soon. And someone just told me today that data-miners found out that that Joshua's speaking... and take this with a grain of salt, because I don't know for sure, but I assume he's talking to Neku, then? Because I can't imagine who else it would be. Even though "wake up" doesn't really make sense to me with the context of what we know about Neku's situation. You'd think it would say "I hope you get out soon", then. But maybe it's "wake up and find the exit out of Shinjuku soon?" Ehh. That's why I say take this one with a grain of salt. Joshua could easily be talking about someone else here. But if it is JoshNeku, it did just add points for them to me, LOL, to see that Josh thinks about Neku this much, I guess. Though if he was talking about Neku, I know it was probably mostly because, “I need you to wake up to help me win this game against Kubo,” more than, “I need you to wake up because I love you,” but still. Edit: Actually, you know what? I’m a moron. He was probably talking to the new proxy, Rindo, after he passed out that day. So, yeah. Ignore this one.
Also... this is more of a fanon thing, but I always imagined that Joshua would become friends with all of the Hachiko Group. And I think he did. I think they maybe hung-out a little (at least one time?) before Neku was shot. At least that's the impression I got. But it definitely seems he mostly stayed friends with Neku above anyone else--and cares about him above anyone else in Shibuya--so is there love there?
And also... as I said in my one post, Neku is just so chill and forgiving now. He'd probably be willing to try a relationship with Josh now, where he definitely wouldn't have been at the end of TWEWY. I think he's probably forgiven him at this point. Heck, he's forgiven Coco.
Though I still think I'll always prefer NeShiki... because they were just such a wholesome and healthy, well-written ship in the first game (one of Square Enix's best written canon couples to me), who saw the worst of each other and then ended up helping each other change for the better. And Neku doesn't even care about what Shiki looks like. He loves her soul. And I do think they had some great chemistry during their week and some fun shipping moments. And they remind me of SoKai some. And that's my ultimate OTP. And anything that reminds me of SoKai, I also end up shipping like crazy.
But, while I'll always prefer NeShiki... I'm not gonna lie, part of me was kind of disappointed that there was so little of them and so little Shiki in Neo? I feel like if the first game hadn't done so much for them for me, they could have been moved out of their spot of OTP for me? IDK. Part of me wishes that Shiki had been involved trying to find Neku somehow? But then again... I also don't want her to have killed herself, or anything like that! And I'm glad that she lived her life to the fullest, and accomplished her dream--that's what Neku would have wanted for her, too--and I'm even worried that if she had tried to find Neku, she would have gotten the Kairi from Kingdom Hearts treatment... which definitely wouldn't have been good and we also don't need a copy of that plot, so...
But then I look at what Neo did give them, and think that it--tied with their stuff from the first game--is more than enough. Much more than enough. And that I'm crazy for wanting anymore.
Anyway, this has gotten super long now, and maybe even confusing (though hopefully not!). I pray this answers your question at all. Shutting up now!

TWEWY 12
Grande Finale already!
I felt the same nervousness and excitement I felt when I watched the first episode while watching the last one. I’m excited, half knowing what I’d see but not knowing what else to expect.
Can’t believe we finally got to this point. I took so many screenshots... I had to limit myself cause they’re not all gonna fit in one tumblr post.
Also I don’t have to give a spoiler warning anymore. Length warning though cause this is super long!(longer than the usual posts I made for this series at least).
Kitaniji transforms into a three-headed monster and unlike in the game, he doesn’t capture any of Neku’s partners nor use Josh’s power to do so. I’m not sure what explanation there is as to how he got more than one noise form but I guess he’s the Conductor so maybe it’s part of his powers here.
Shiki and Beat awaken in the middle of Neku’s fight and help out. The trio then forms some kind of three-way pact (four if Rhyme actually counted although now completely sure?) and continue battling Kitaniji. The fight scene was pretty cool especially Beat’s attack with the chains. It just sucks the fight ended too fast. I guess all of TWEWY anime’s boss fights end kinda fast even though they’re uh, boss fights.
Final attack beam like in the game! It was too fast and I couldn’t get a good shot of the white version this transforms into (which looks like the one in the game). They have an explanation later as to why it looks different at first but they’ll talk about it later.
It’s sad Joshua isn’t part of this. This is supposed to be the four-way fusion attack. (;-;)
They defeat Kitaniji who disappears, sad that he was unable to protect Shibuya. Joshua never showed up in this boss battle so Kitaniji never got to talk to Joshua for the last time. In the game he at least dies happy in a way - he lost but he gave it his all and his Composer praised his efforts. He was also able to tell Neku that the rest is up to him now. Here in the anime, he just... he lost and felt bad. I wish they had Josh show up here but they had other ideas.
A new door opens and Neku braced himself as he knows the fight isn’t over cause there’s still one last guy on top.
They find themselves in this room/hallway (is this supposed to be the Trail of the Judged?) filled with CAT murals. This somewhat confirms the “CAT = Composer” theory and Neku has now accepted it, calling out Mr. Hanekoma to show himself.
And yeah, the last episode’s title is the show’s title as well “It’s a Wonderful World”.
Someone else showed up instead. Joshua finally makes his reappearance!
Boy, have I been waiting for you! I wish you were with them in the final battle earlier so you guys could be a team (and you could be one of Neku’s partners) one last time.
Neku is surprised but happy to see Joshua again. He thanks Joshua for saving him before and is glad that he’s okay.
In the game, this never happened cause Josh appears in the middle of a fight. Things were too hectic and when the battle with Kitaniji finally ended, he and Josh talked about their own game and so after Kitaniji disappears, what’s left is questioning what was happening. Since Josh didn’t show up earlier, they were able to reunite in a more peaceful way and Neku had no suspicion until Joshua himself brought it up.
And I guess that’s why I was so nervous when I watched this. It’s a bit too peaceful. I know what’s gonna happen next but not exactly how they’d adapt it.
Joshua finally explains the truth to Neku and his friends.
This felt more... awful to watch. Like we had both Joshua and Kitaniji giving bits and pieces of the truth in the game via their conversation so there’s two people to focus on. Here it’s just Joshua. But in a way, I guess this works cause there’s no one else there to soften the blow and Joshua could make the revelation hurt more if he wishes so. It also kinda feels worse cause you see Neku happy to see Joshua earlier before the reveal happens. Kinda heartbreaking.
“I’m the Composer of Shibuya.”
He finally says it clearly to a confused and surprised Neku.
We get a flashback of Joshua and Kitaniji talking about Shibuya’s impending destruction, why it must happen, and Kitaniji making a deal to try and save it. He has a month to change things for the better and if it works out, he wins. If not, Joshua continues the destruction plan.
Joshua’s Composer form is more vague here. It’s human shaped but you don’t see his face and the outline glows like this so you don’t properly see the shape. I think this is better cause there’s no way you can tell who the Composer is like this and he looks less human.
Beat gets angry at the revelation and tries to attack Joshua which he couldn’t do because of Joshua’s powers. I wasn’t able to get a screenshot of this but Josh is twirling his hair after this while Beat struggles to try and punch him. He’s cute and I know this is kind of inappropriate to say in this situation given he legitimately made someone mad and he deserves that punch to his pretty face.
Joshua uses his powers to freeze the others (and later renders them unconscious to keep them quiet). Neku is worried about his friends and is mad.
Joshua tells him he won’t hurt Neku’s friends. He then explains about how he found his proxy. Which is Neku much to his horror at what this meant.
I just had to get this with the subtitles on. I replayed the scene several times to hear if there was no error. Joshua says “Daiji na Neku-kun no tomodachi...” and I google translated it. It says “daiji” means “important”. So yeah, he definitely called Neku “important” to him. It’s surprising although this wouldn’t be out of place in the original game since they had more moments to just talk on there.
Yeah, I know I focused on this a little but I’m a nekujosh/joshneku shipper so forgive me for latching onto this.
Neku slowly sees the bigger picture as Joshua continues to explain himself. As a reward for getting this far, Joshua returns Neku’s memories.
He really had to get that close while saying Neku’s name, didn’t he?
Neku’s death flashback. The scene plays almost similar to the game right down to the censored guns (is this a creative decision to make it faithful to the game or are they really just not allowed to draw actual guns?). I was gonna make a joke about how Joshua stopped Minamimoto’s bullets using an AT field but the shot was different and the bullets just looked like they froze midair and not stopped by some kinda force field like in the game.
Neku ends up getting shot by Joshua complete with bleeding unlike in the game. I just have to wonder if I was the one who got it wrong cause in the game, Joshua looks like he’s aiming for Neku’s head and here, Neku gets shot on the chest. Did they change it cause a headshot would be too much or has it always been a shot to the chest?
Neku angrily walks over to Josh and grabs him by the collar. Joshua stops Neku with his powers as he continues to explain about what happened regarding the death scene and Minamimoto. Joshua then materializes two guns out of thin air and places one on Neku’s hand as he tells him the rules of their final duel: just shoot and if Neku wins, he could save his friends and he becomes Composer and do what he wants. What stood out with how he said it is that he didn’t exactly go “If you don’t beat me, Shibuya is destroyed.” and instead went “If you win, these are what you get to be Composer and whatever else you’d like! Sounds good, right?”. As if saying killing him has a lot of perks.
It feels weird seeing Josh physically placing the gun on Neku’s hand cause in the game, the gun was by Neku’s feet and Neku had to pick it up on his own accord. Anyways, I like the effect they used to materialize the gun cause it’s the same effect for the names of the routes when they show them on screen. Like graffiti or something.
At this point Neku’s crying. The shot didn’t feel as dramatic as in the game in my personal opinion. Neku is tearing up here but he looks tired and was about to sob in the game. Joshua meanwhile, counts down from ten.
Before Joshua’s count hits three, Neku hears a somewhat distorted voice (which we know is just Mr. H) saying “Trust your Partner”. This reminded Neku how he got to where he is: by trusting his partners. (I have something to say about this later)
In a very shocking turn of events, instead of just lowering the gun and letting himself be shot like in the game, Neku drops his gun and with a hand outstretched tells Joshua “I’ll trust you”. Oh my god... they really did it. I love this change not gonna lie. I think they might have added this cause they didn’t adapt Neku’s ending monologue where he does say he trusts Joshua. It’s less dramatic than the game though since Neku doesn’t say anything while Joshua is counting down. In the game, he was crying and saying how he thought Joshua was his friend and how all of this really hurt him. Guess we take what we can get and they gave us this.
Joshua smiles as he shoots but as Neku falls, the smile on Joshua’s face disappears.
Mr. H didn’t show up at the end here either so Neku didn’t get to see him.
Neku wakes up in the middle of Scramble Crossing like usual but he bumps into people and so he realizes that he’s alive now. He doesn’t scream after the very stressful crap he went to like in the game. Might not be entirely the same but Joshua still left him lying down in the middle of the street. Nice.
We then see a short timelapse from above Shibuya which is probably supposed to show a week has passed. Neku’s monologue wasn’t added in and no ending music as well. I’m disappointed “A Lullaby for You” wasn’t used. Here I was hoping for a miracle.
By the way, Shooter, Yammer, and I think Makoto all passed him by the scramble. They really didn’t get much screentime but at least they made cameos.
Neku finally meets up with the Bito siblings like at the game’s epilogue! The shot they did was almost the same as with the game, too. They have dialogue here instead of just stills with Neku showing how happy he was to see his friends alive again, too. I’m happy the anime version showed him smiling more at the end cause he needed that after everything. It’s nice to see him smile.
RG! Shiki is here! With the same shot as in the game! They really aren’t gonna show us her face, huh? Also, all of the shots with Shiki on them has her back towards us. Like there are scenes where Neku and the rest are looking forward and she’s in front of them with her back turned on us. Why? They could’ve used the lighting on her glasses to obscure her eyes, too. So her bangs are a secret as well then?
They show Eri later, too enjoying a concert, by the way. I was hoping to see a reunion between her and Shiki as well and them finally talking after the stuff from before. Oh well.
Neku takes off his headphones and he and Shiki do a proper introduction with each other with Shiki being herself this time. (Is Shiki the same height as Neku? It looks like that from this angle.)
Anyways, this was a nice way to adapt Neku taking off his headphones since they can’t do it like in the game.
They adapted the secret ending but expanded it to add stuff from the secret reports to explain other lore stuff which would’ve been missed by the anime-only watchers since those are part of bonus game contents. Mr. Hanekoma and Joshua talk about the events of the long game and Joshua says he knew it was Mr. H whose responsible for Minamimoto.
They also talk about the Red Skull Pins and how Mr. H made it for Kitaniji. Mr. H says the pins imprints Kitaniji’s will on people and that he himself (Mr. H) doesn’t need that cause he could do so with all the graffiti he left all over town.
Which brings me to earlier in the duel: Neku hears a voice, clearly (to us) is Mr. Hanekoma’s and it’s in a place filled to the brim with CAT graffiti. Did he imprint the words “Trust your partner” to Neku?
Meanwhile, Beat wonders how they were able to pull off the final attack. Neku says it was probably the pin Hanekoma gave them (the keypin looking thing). I guess they needed an explanation for the last attack but they didn’t have the fusion pin so they used this keypin instead. It’s why the attack looked different in the beginning when the attack was powering up.
There’s apparently a new CAT graffiti at Udagawa and of course, CAT-fanboy Neku has to see it. On the way, they meet Sota and Nao who are now alive! I’m so happy!! Joshua brought them back, too! I always felt bad about what happened to them in the game. I’m glad they got a happy ending in the anime.
Def March, 777′s band, are back as well and look... they got their winged mic back! It makes me wonder if they found it later on or if Joshua gave that to them back the same time when he brought them back lol. I’m just really happy for all of them.
Joshua’s wings!! This is, unfortunately, the best shot I could get since they never really zoom in on this. In the game he is in his Composer form in the secret ending and turns into a ball of light when he leaves. Here, we see his wings. It’s smaller than the one he has in KH:DDD. At least we canonically see it here.
I can now use the term “Joshua Maji Tenshi” and be accurate!
Mr. H points out that Joshua looks lonely and is in denial and Josh just leaves. Mr. H also shows his wings and leaves afterwards, too. I didn’t take a pic of it since we see it in the game’s secret ending anyways. His wings also seem smaller than in the game.
Final shot of the new CAT graffiti. I was so close to crying the entire ending and this nearly tipped me over but it didn’t. If “A Lullaby for You” was playing, I’d have probably bawled my eyes out. This graffiti is beautiful. I want a sticker of it.
Also, I just noticed but CAT’s old graffiti at Udagawa had mostly darker colors. This new one is brighter and is more colorful.
--
First of all, I wanted to thank tumblr for not giving me an error for posting more than 15 images like I usually did. I was bracing myself for the error pop up and was gonna make a part 2 instead but there was some kind of miracle and I got more than 20 pictures on here.
I have a lot of melodramatic things to say about the anime but I’ll save it all for later. For now, I’ll say something else. I’m sad they didn’t adapt Neku’s monologue. Those words from Neku still hits me in the feels to this day. Him saying that the entire ordeal really affected him in more ways than one and it wasn’t all good even though he’s happy about changing and what he learned from the experience. His line about how he can’t forgive Joshua but trusts him was cut along with it and it would’ve been nice to have to know what he thought of Joshua.
The thing I missed the most was the “I have friends now. We’re meeting each other for the first time in a week. See you there?” lines. It shows how happy Neku is that he now has people to call his friends which is super heartwarming and the line implies that he counts Joshua as one of those friends, too (which is properly confirmed in KH: DDD which I’d probably make a post about later if I get the motivation to do so). That would’ve also made the last scene with Josh hit harder. In the game, knowing Josh wanted to be with them and is sad he couldn’t already makes me sad but also knowing Neku is waiting for him makes it much worse (and I still feel pain thinking about it even after all these years).
Maybe we’d see them get reunited in NTWEWY. Hopefully. I really do hope so.
The anime isn’t perfect but it did what it could with the limited amount of time it had. The show would’ve been better if they had more episodes but we don’t know why it ended up with just 12 so we can’t really say anything else. They did it and it wasn’t as bad as I was fearing in a way. Would I recommend it? I’d probably rec the game first, to be honest. I was only okay with watching cause I have played the game and could fill in the missing stuff but the anime-only fans couldn’t and the thought that they won’t be able to fully appreciate the entire story of twewy is kinda sad. It was a nice watch though and I’d miss waiting for it every week.
I wonder if they’d make “A New Day” OVA since the anime is supposed to help the ones who haven’t/couldn’t play the first game but would go play NTWEWY and that scenario has story stuff that’s connected to the sequel.
Anyways, thanks for reading this far if you did! I’ll be watching gameplays of NTWEWY when it comes out in full (since I don’t have the money nor the console for it).

L, M, and S !!
Thank you for the ask, anon! :D
L. What is your favorite fic idea that you don’t think you’ll ever write?
Okay. I’m kind of embarrassed that I had an immediate answer pop into my head for this one. I had an idea a long time ago for a Bagginshield fic that was a soul bond type of thing. The Arkenstone was literally the “Heart of the Mountain,” as in inside the stone was the heart/soul/whatever of the Lonely Mountain. So after the battle of five armies, only Thorin is killed, and at his funeral, Bilbo makes a prayer for any way for Thorin to come back. What ends up happening is the Arkenstone responds to Bilbo’s wish by absorbing Bilbo’s soul into it to serve as the heart of the mountain, and transfers its own soul into Thorin to revive him. And in this happening, Bilbo vanishes and all memories of him are erased from the dwarves. But in his sleep/at night/etc. Thorin hears Bilbo’s voice in his head/echoing in the halls of Erebor and swears he recognizes the voice but has no idea who it is. Then Thorin ends up finding the core of the mountain and Bilbo is inside this like, crystalline chamber type of thing? And then some shit happens and Thorin remembers Bilbo and wants to give up his own self (again ahahaha) to save Bilbo, but the Arkenstone does this thing where in order to have Thorin’s wish be granted and keep Bilbo’s original wish, it binds Bilbo’s and Thorin’s souls together and keeps pieces of them to keep the mountain “alive” and then their souls return to their bodies, but they’re still soul bound.
It’s a huge, long, complicated idea that I love so much but I don’t think I’ll ever get around to writing it, unfortunately.
M. How do you come up with titles?
It’s a toss-up, really. A lot of times, I just end up using song lyrics if I can’t think of anything original. But usually what I’ll do is try and narrow down the main themes/ideas of the fic and try and come up with a title that sounds like it could be descriptive of those. In doing that, though, a lot of the time my titles sound so hipster-y and Fake Deep. (for example, my fic rattle my bones like an earthquake to glass is about Todoroki having a panic attack, but the title in itself refers to the uncontrollable shaking that usually ensues with a panic attack. But the composition of the title just sounds so pretentious to me for some reason lol). I think a lot of my best fic titles come from when I suggest one jokingly and it becomes like WHOA I GALAXY BRAINED THIS (like my and @sunshineijirou‘s fic D(ouble)D(ate)R, which is a TodoDeku/KiriBaku fic in which, yes, there is a double date AND Dance Dance Revolution).
S. What is your favorite pairing to write?
I have so many. So. Many. Recently it’s definitely TodoDeku, but also among my favorite pairings to write for are JoshNeku from The World Ends With You (I love their dynamic, it’s just so antagonistic and interesting), IkeSoren from Fire Emblem 9/10 (I write quiet, angry, brooding characters like Soren quite easily but I LOVE writing Ike in contrast to Soren), and Bagginshield (two grumpy older adults who banter back and forth but are also very Softe? yes please).

ghost with a pulse
post-canon joshneku angst shenanigans; 1920 words. rated T for Take away my sadness, and Totally did not proofread. warnings: brief, mildly ableist language. | READ ON AO3
All Neku can think is, He looks beautiful, and the thought is less an organic observation born of him and more a fully-formed statement that occurs to him. Another centimeter more, and this light could be a halo...
Neku lives in a place where the dogs don’t bark.
It’s quiet but for his mind; he wastes some moments daily regretting the decision to abandon the city for the sea. The former had been loud with reminders that the world moves ever on by the racket of bike spokes, announcements, train horns, despite the nights when he had thought he could hear the planet winding down on its axis, its unraveling barely audible and easily overlooked. The latter is loud in its abject loneliness, carries itself with the grace of a dying thing still making attempts at dignity. He can hear it through the walls, knitting itself a storm. He only misses the city when he recalls that it does not miss him.
Shibuya does not miss him. It flipped him inside out and then was done, moved on to the next disaster.
He paints the sea now, cold and desolate, the way he had once painted Shibuya: breathing, alive, and devoid of soul entirely. Shiki visits, her hair long, and wearing contacts in lieu of her glasses, and she tells him to paint something beautiful for once in his life. And he tells her that beauty does not depend on the existence of a heart, that despite what of his soul they lack his works are still technically sound (they are), and she smiles as she gently tells him how cruel he can sometimes be. She says he can fool the world, himself included, but that she will always search for him between brushstrokes, and as of yet she had never found him there, he’s only a signature in the bottom righthand corner, only a name, an entity entirely separate from the work, and Neku tells her the artist is dead, and she repeats herself about cruelty before catching the last train home to Tokyo.
Beat emails him photos of the three of them—Shiki, Rhyme, and Beat’s veiny forearm—posing in various locations around Shibuya. Hachiko stands triumphant as Rhyme and Shiki form a heart with their hands. A blurry candid of Beat burning his tongue on ramen. A closeup on Rhyme’s face illuminated by the glow of the summer fireworks. Beat snapping a perfectly-timed selfie with a snowball in motion hurling towards him in the background, Shiki losing herself in a laugh as it leaves her gloved hand.
Neku wishes Beat would stop sending them.
Because every new photograph shaves precious hours off of his already borrowed lifespan. He enlarges them, enhances them, scans them meticulously for reflections that shouldn’t exist, shadows that don’t make sense, light leaks in the vague shape of a person. The smallest of signs. The most hidden of hints. Are you watching? Are you listening? Does your consciousness hang around? You told me you cared, once. Remind me.
Neku saves them all to a locked folder on an external harddrive.
In the beginning he’d been better at excuses. Perhaps the toll of resonating on a human frequency was too much to justify even a brief appearance. Perhaps his work kept him away. Perhaps next Saturday he’d abruptly exist again and they could chat, for a bit, maybe grab coffee at WildKat.
But all the development Neku had undergone once upon another lifetime had done little to shake the fundamental cynicism he still carried to this day, and over time he had once again indulged it, cultivated it, let it fester until it became a bitterness.
So bitter he lies awake at night, and no dogs do bark, and no unmuffled motorcycle engines do frighten away the specters hung like cobwebs from the rafters of his mind.
As he finally brushes his fingers against the door into a waking dream, a loud crash reels him out of it. He sits up, heart beating in time to the downpour outside, and pulls the string on his bedside lamp.
There, standing at the foot of his bed: the phantom he had never found in the photographs, here alive and slightly flushed in the cheeks, and hair slightly frizzed from the moisture seeping in through the ancient windows, and lips slightly parted with surprise, or anticipation, or with other less savory things that Neku’s mind does not immediately suggest because if it had he would have to be very cross with himself.
“You startled me, Neku,” says the ghost. “Isn’t it a little bit past your bedtime?”
“Fuck you,” is the sound Neku’s mouth makes before his brain catches up.
“Oh, he knows what he wants, doesn’t he?” the ghost teases. “But I’m not here for that.”
Neku squeezes his eyes shut and pinches himself.
Before he can open them, the ghost continues: “No, you’re not dreaming. I’m really here. But not for long—unfortunately it’s more difficult for me to keep this form the farther I am from Shibuya, so I don’t have much time...”
“Are you...?” Neku says, slowly opening his eyes. “You’re not. No. No, he wouldn’t do this to me. Not after... years of—“
“But I am,” the ghost interjects, not unkindly. He holds out an arm—as frail as Neku remembers, that pale skin papier-mâchéd over lithe bones and veins that almost seem to glow dark blue—and Neku, swallowing his reluctance along with the mob of other emotions threatening war inside his head, reaches for it and runs the pad of his thumb over the small divot in his wrist. Beneath, the ghost’s pulse hiccups in response.
Neku lets slip a shaky sigh.
So this is where his soul had gone. Yes. His chest recalls its shape. It hasn't disintegrated, hasn't gone missing, has merely chosen to hide away in another place, let itself be kept safe by another until Neku regains the facilities to care for it again himself. And had he?
“Why did you leave?” Neku asks. His voice cracks but it’s from fatigue and certainly not a side-effect of his losing battle against an oncoming flood of violent tears.
“Why did you?” the ghost says.
“You left first.” Breaking, breaking, traitorous vocal chords. “You couldn’t have asked me to stick around like some kind of hopeless idiot, just wasting every day waiting around for you to show up.”
The ghost raises an eyebrow. “You’re still waiting, though, Neku.” He gestures toward the walls of Neku’s bedroom. “The only thing that’s changed is the scenery.”
Self-assured brat, Neku thinks, and that’s more like it. Easier to antagonize the missing piece, force it to hate him, than to have it return but only halfway, mangled and scarred and never again the same.
“Shut up,” Neku tells him. “You can’t blame me for leaving when you weren’t even there.”
“I can do whatever I want. But still, I don’t blame you, Neku.” The ghost lowers himself onto the mattress; Neku brings his knees to his chest and wraps his arms around them. Less surface area for them to “accidentally” touch. Anger wants to make a home of his throat, to ravage and burn with a vitriol he’s long kept caged, but when he looks at the ghost, how the shadows fall around him, all he can think is, He looks beautiful, and the thought is less an organic observation born of him and more a fully-formed statement that occurs to him. Another centimeter more, and this light could be a halo...
“Time passes differently for me,” the ghost says, settling in atop Neku’s bed. “In the UG, I mean. Everything slows down, but it also passes me by at breakneck speed. It feels like I blinked this morning, and ten years were gone.”
“Oh,” is all Neku can bring himself to say. Difficult to understand the sentiment when he himself had experienced every minute of every month of every year in gut-wrenchingly painful detail. Every agonizing second of waiting in vain.
“I tried… to keep an eye on you, you know,” the ghost ventures. Still the same smarmy tone of voice.
“Yeah, well, you could have given me some kind of. I dunno. A sign?” No, that sounds too religious, grants him too much power over this situation. He’s already got the power, doesn’t need to be reminded, doesn’t need to let it get to his head. “Or at least given my friends a message?” If it’s this much trouble just to show up.
The ghost sighs. “Early on I passed the threshold of tardiness where it becomes too late for communication, and past that it only became even more difficult… I’m sorry. I could have said something. You’re right. But the truth is…”
“The truth… ?” Neku prompts after a beat.
“Well, if you ask me, there seems to be a direct correlation between your proximity to Shibuya and your happiness. The farther away from the city limits you travel, the happier you become. And I never could have kept up with you, Neku.”
Neku shakes his head and tugs at a strand of vibrant orange hair that’s found the wrong way to dangle in front of his eyes. “That’s just plain dumb,” he says. “If you feel like you can’t keep up, you should just ask the other person to slow down.” God, he was turning into Shiki. “You never even asked. Besides, you think you couldn’t keep up? Get real. Look at what you do for a living.”
“Neku, Neku,” the ghost giggles sadly. “Even now, you never fail to surprise me.”
“And you’re predictable as ever,” Neku snorts.
A wisp of smoke begins to unfold from the places Neku had touched brief moments ago, and the ghost sighs again.
“Oh, what do you know? That must be my cue to go,” he says. “Seems I’m at my limit. Like I said, I can’t maintain this form here too long.”
Then stay until you dissolve, Neku wants to say. At least that’ll be an ending for the both of us. Some sense of finality. No more half-open doors, just a headstone where lies whatever it was we ever shared.
But instead, he just frowns and crosses his arms. “So what, you show up uninvited after ten years and then fuck back off to Shibuya? Was that some half-assed attempt to give me closure?” Or are you just reopening the wound for the hell of it? Well, Joshua? Which one is it?
The ghost shoots him a dismayed look. “You know I can still hear your thoughts, right? It’s important to me that you know that.”
Begone, thot, Neku thinks as hard as he can. The ghost still covers his mouth when he laughs, and Neku realizes then that the quirk has never been out of politeness, just yet another little addition to that character he plays, the one he never entirely dropped, not even when they were both at their most vulnerable.
“So turn off the light,” the ghost tells him. “Halos never suited me much, anyhow.”
Neku complies, though he furrows his brow at the fact that he’s doing it willingly, not even an ounce of pretend protest. No, he doesn’t have it in him anymore.
“Yeah, but you’ll be back soon, right?” Neku asks, with more hope than he’d really wanted to convey. “You don’t get to just drop by whenever it’s convenient for you.”
But no reply ever comes, and the question hangs in the air like thread unwound.
In the morning Neku wakes and rubs his bloodshot eyes. On the sheets beside him he finds a single silver hair: the last trace of a love that had blossomed, wilted, and then was gone.

How I got into shipping JoshNeku
I was telling my awesome roommate (who I got into both the game and the ship ahahaha) about how I got into shipping Joshua and Neku from The World Ends With You, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever posted the story on Tumblr? So here it is. Sorry, the tenses change a lot in this story. Tldr at the bottom.
Basically, I got into Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance first, and while going through Traverse Town I started to really like all of the TWEWY characters. I had never heard of TWEWY, but I thought “hey, the characters are cool” and “Joshua is really cool I really like him,” so I googled the game. I learned the basic premise of the game and still really liked it; I’m not sure how much I was spoiled by this point but it wasn’t a lot.
Then, I had this dream.
It was set post-TWEWY and in a big city with skyscrapers that I assume was Shibuya. I was Neku, and Shiki and Beat and Rhyme were there. Then Joshua showed up and asked for our help defeating this big evil monster thing that had cursed the city. Apparently, the curse was that if there was a Player that nobody alive remembered, that Player was erased. Poof. Gone. Josh’s powers weren’t working, so he couldn’t stop it. Soon after, we met one of my OCs and talked to her right before she was erased, and it was sad.
So, we go to fight the big bad monster. All of us: me (as Neku), Joshua, Shiki, Beat, Rhyme, and possibly Eri. We finally defeat it. The wall of the room we’re in opens up to show the exit, which is one of those closed plastic slides you see on playgrounds. The others go ahead and slide down, and Josh and I were waiting to go last to make sure it was safe. Finally, I started down the slide, and looked over my shoulder at Josh...
...Just to see his scared face as he got dragged backwards by the monster, who was apparently not as dead as we’d thought.
I climbed back up the slide, and Josh and I fought the monster again. We kicked its ass. It was great. Then we went down the slide together, holding hands the entire way. It was really cheesy and cute.
We made it to the bottom, where my (Neku’s) mom was waiting to pick us up. She, like all of the other normal people, was oblivious to the threat we had just defeated. She was chatting, and somehow the conversation got to family, and then to future family. Josh and I were still holding hands.
Then she said “Neku, I can’t wait until I finally get some grandchildren from you.”
And Joshua just laughed, looked at me, and said “Somehow, I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
I woke up and have shipped them ever since.
tldr: I got into KH:DDD and started learning about TWEWY. Then I had a dream where Neku saved the city (and Josh) from a monster, they held hands a lot afterwards, and Josh told Neku’s mom not to expect any grandchildren from him.
#twewy#joshneku#dreams#twewy spoilers#but not really#i love my dreams guys#i wish I could remember them more often because they're great

I HAVE AN UPDATE.
I found the fic name and author, but the fic was deleted when i looked inside of it. It’s called “Making Money In Shibuya” and it’s by Amanda Parsons.
“Kai, a student striving to make ends meet while pursuing his passion for art. Faced with limited options for financial stability, he takes a leap of faith and delves into the world of escorting, enticed by the promise of a "no-sex" arrangement. His client, Joza, a wealthy and enigmatic individual, proves to be a complex figure who constantly flirts and tempts Kai. As Joza's secretive life unfolds, Kai finds himself perpetually on edge. Can he resist becoming too emotionally attached to a struggling artist he deeply relates to? Does he even want to resist? Or will he take the plunge, regardless of the consequences?”
This ^ is exactly the fic I read, but with Joshua and Neku instead.
If anybody has the original Joshneku fic saved, please tell me!!! Or if anybody can… contact Amanda Parsons and ask her for the information. I don’t have a TikTok so I can’t find more information myself.
I could potentially try the way back machine, but I’m not sure it would work for a fic that’s been tampered with like this.
This is what the fic looks like when you go into it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE FICS OF ALL TIME GOT DELETED and I AM DISTRAUGHT
and i, stupidly assuming it would be around forever, DONT REMEMBER THE AUTHOR OR NAME
I NEED HELP IN IDENTIFYING, AND/OR IF SOMEONE HAS IT SAVED
even if you don’t have/know the fic, please please like or something so this gets pushed out to people who can help 😭😭😭😭
if you’re a literal saint and have read this far, here’s what i remember about the fic
it was a joshneku fic (from twewy)
it was on AO3
it was either mature/explicit
it had somewhere around 10-18 chapters
the premise was that neku got hired to be joshua’s assistant, joshua’s filthy rich, but his parents died in a car crash and he’s a piano prodigy but can’t write his next composition because he has artist’s block. and hanekoma is worried about him because he’s tried to commit suicide before - thinking all his worth is his work, and so if he can’t write, it’s not worth living
josh eventually tries to commit suicide again the night of his performance, but neku saves him, and then josh finally finishes his piece
there was a piano song linked in the fic as well, but i don’t remember what it was called, even though i can hear it in my mind. i will link it if i can find it
i feel ridiculously stupid for not saving this fic, and i now have trust issues with all fic writers. i’m extremely devastated cause it was kind of a formative fic for me, and so if somebody could please, PLEASE help, i owe you my life 😭😭😭😭😭

TWEWY 04
Week 2!!!
Seeing Joshua on the thumbnail made me giddy lol. Week 2 is my favorite in the game. Also, I have feelings right now so I’ll be making this post as I watch the show haha.
I’m still not that used to the fact that they’re using smartphones now instead of flip phones.
Spoilers for the game ahead!
Did Minamimoto do this in the game? I don’t remember. He uses his megaphone to yell out the mission (still sent everyone the text though).
Joshua!! Joshua is finally here!! I waited so long to see you animated and voiced. It’s Joshua... my boy is here! Yes, I will fangirl over him for the entirety of his Week.
Their partner pact is so cute lol. I’m a nekujosh/joshneku fangirl. Have been since I played the game years ago so uh... yeah.
Joshua is introduced and says some strange things the way he does, of course. Since they changed game mechanics to fit the anime (scanning requires you to touch the person instead of just tapping the player pin), Neku has gotten some... flashbacks when he touched Joshua.
Hehe It’s starting...
Sota and Nao! They’re players now. I wonder if this meant they’d get more significance than poor Makoto did.
Minamimoto appears... in front of our main characters! On his junk pile... haha I remember those piles in the game. He starts shouting in math puns calling them zetta slow lol. The Minamimoto fans are probably happy right now.
He also seem to have recognized Neku and Joshua (hinting it with the change in attitude/expression when he noticed who he was talking to). I guess the anime is trying to foreshadow stuff again.
They’re showing us other players. That’s a nice touch. You don’t really see them be featured in the game. Like, you know there are other players clearing walls and stuff but you don’t really get to meet them unless they’d have something to do with the plot so this is a nice touch.
Also, Minamimoto just sent out some noise to attack them even though they have completed the mission. What a jerk lol
They’re really trying to up the brutality in the anime, huh? The first episode featured an erased player who suddenly turned into bubbles and disappeared immediately after being attacked but this time, they’re gonna make the erasure time slow by showing us how bad this is haha. I don’t hate it though.
Minamimoto immediately gives them a new mission which is basically battle royale - destroy other players. Neku saves the others from noise attacks and reminds them to trust their partners. Total shounen protag right there lol. Sadly, it doesn’t work for everyone and so some of the players are fighting each other. Minamimoto then gives them the orders to fight kariya and Uzuki giving the reapers a reason to attack them back.
I guess this is a faster way to decrease the player count right away. This way, the anime can just focus on the important characters.
They’re both levitating! Haha I thought this was just a Joshua thing. They used a very powerful attack (fire and ice, I guess) that destroys all the noise. They’re already showing off Joshua’s strength on Day 1.
The audience is finally given a part 2 game tutorial! Joshua explains about the routes and the reaper decals. Of course, it seems it’d make no sense in the anime about why the players are even allowed to shop since they don’t really use all the game mechanics here. No sidequests to do and they don’t really incorporate the “brands you use and food you eat raises your stats” thing. Still, it’s good they introduced this to new fans.
Oh yeah, since there’s no Tin PIn in the anime, they’re not gonna do the gold pin mission. Sad... Joshua likes Tin Pin.
Aww they’re working together now! They’re using their special skills again to fight some powerful noise. Also... taboo noise already?
Minamimoto watches as the duo fight the strange noise. I’m wondering if they’d also show that Kariya has suspicions on what Joshua might be?
I’m glad Eri is getting screentime but man, it’s sad. She buys flowers and visits Shiki’s grave everyday. I’m glad she gains more significance and while she’s still Shiki’s friend, she shows a bit more personality with the scenes given to her.
Neku apologizes to Eri regarding what happened to Shiki (no reaper decal on the flower shop so he’s invisible). He soon realizes he has no idea how he dies.
They’re making Joshua look more suspicious than in the game. He’s kinda being strange and cryptic in the game but here, they’re kinda hinting that he’s sinister. I know they wanna finish this up quickly but this might change how people who only watched the anime see Joshua. I’m curious how this’d affect what he would do at the end of Week 2.
Flashback again! So Neku doesn’t die of being shot in the head in the anime. I guess that’s probably too much for the anime, huh? He bleeds to death due to his wound here. In the game it seems he dies immediately after being shot. I dunno which death is worse.
Reaper Beat! I was wondering if he’d show up in today’s episode. No Rhyme noise yet...
--
I was unable to get a screenshot of it (I didn’t even know if all these would fit caise tumblr gives me errors when I have too many pictures) but Kariya and Uzuki had a talk earlier where Uzuki mentions having only been a reaper for 2 years and Kariya says he’s seen the game go past just 1 week before but it was a long time ago hinting that he’s been a reaper for far longer. Little ways the anime gives infos on how this all works.
I have some things I didn’t like but I guess that’s what happens with compressed adaptations. I’m happy Joshua is here though. They captured his “pretty boy” looks in the anime. Since this is gonna be dealt with fast, I guess there might be less joshneku/nekujosh moments since they’re already trying to make Joshua seem too untrustworthy. Ugh that hurts my shipper heart but I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything in the first place.
I’m excited for the next episode though. More Joshua! lol
Also, next episode is CAT so I guess they’d give some screentime to Mr. Hanekoma. I hope they animate the part where Neku finds out who Hanekoma is haha. Please. They already took away Tin Pin for Joshua so at least give Neku something to fanboy about.
Alright, til next week’s episode! Not sure if I’d do this “make a post as I watch” again or just collect screenshots and then make a post afterwards but I guess depends on what will happen next episode. A lot happened today and I didn’t know if I could remember all my thoughts after watching the episode.
