I, Josephine the Chinchilla-colored Queen of Rainbow, am here today to wish all my beloved Royal Subjects and their hoomins a Happy Fourth of July and to apologize to my Canadian hoomin friends for belated Canada Day wishes (after all my Mama hoomin is half-Canadian!) While it is thunderstorming where my beloved MH and PH live, and seems dreary and glooomy with the scary boom booms frightening the canines, and sounding like ancient battles fought around these parts, I remind my careworn hoomins that battle is life. Even rabbits rarely know warren peace as we must always fight to protect ourselves from roving, greedy bands of ill-willed rabbits whose subterfuge hides behind gleaming incisors and two-faced lies. Deceit is everywhere. Yet only truth and love can illuminate the darkness and drive evildoers back into the stone caves. Only the wild, free heart of the true bunny rabbit can befriend the willow tree and tunnel under its limbs to make a home tree. You can tell fromvbright eyes lit from within, the true colors of a friend. Only let friends redeem themselves. An enemy is only ever an unrepentant friend. There are battles only love can win. Thunder is the percussion of justice. Don’t fear the gloom for it, too, is transient. Light can travel across time itself, it IS time itself, and rewrite all wrongs. Today, I wish to announce that my successor, Princess Queen Beatrix Jolene, will soon be wed to the Lionhead King, Eddie ‘the Yeti,’ from the kingdom of Shambhala. Please welcome Jolene, rescued on the 40th anniversary of the passing of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley and in honor of our Queen Josephine. We don't use a name more than once so instead of another Josephine, we present to you; Jolene. She is a false dwarf just like Josephine and at only one year old, she'd been labeled unhandleable by shelter staff and flagged for euthanasia. Josephine had similar personality traits as well. Jolene was surrendered by her "family" after they got a puppy and found her to suddenly be "aggressive." She was spayed and given only two weeks to show behavior modification. Rabbits require a full 30 days after altering for complete flush of hormones. In fact, male rabbits can impregnate a female for up to 30 days after neutering! It is coming upon the one year anniversary of my transition to the rainbow realm where I now rule all Lapines from the clouds and my faithful Mama hoomin finds herself reaching out to me and to you with a melancholy heart. Would you please remind her of what about myself, your monarch, that endeared me most to you each? Without my furriness present, she wishes for reassurances of the hoomin kind that my moonstone tinsel glints still sparkle in your minds' eyes and hearts. Josephiney Weeny Queeny reliving her 17th Birthday celebration from March 2005. This video sort of went viral a week after it was originally posted. Mama hoomin wondered why the year before no one seemed to take note of her 16th birthday or the one before that and the one before that. But for her 17th birthday, she was suddenly a celebrity. Other rabbits have lived as long as she did, 18-1/2 years, but I guess Josephine the chinchilla-colored Queen was the first high tech lady of the long tooth. Today is World Elephant Day. It's also the day Queen Josephine, another seismic communicator (or "thumper") passed into the Rainbow realm. Both of these events weigh heavy on the heart of Mama hoomin. One of this planet's most enlightened, intelligent and largest species is being eradicated at the rate of 100 elephants a day and the current political atmosphere bodes very grimly for this species as well as the planet. And then there was the little miracle rabbit named Josephine the Queen. Dainty and regal, barely two pounds, she commanded a presence as voluminous and majestic as the tallest icy peaks of the Himalayas, this Queen ruled for 18-1/2 years. My Dearest Royal Subjects, As your immortal reigning monarch, Josephine the Moonstone Tinsel Chinchilla-colored Queen who lived to the age of 18-1/2, I'm here today to help you with the life in which you find yourself. -- Life is very fragile as are we rabbits. We are like tropical orchids requiring a trained, devoted caretaker. We are like European sports cars, very fast & complex, requiring an import specialist mechanic for repairs and maintenance. We are like racehorses, prone to abuse from a corrupt system yet sometimes capable of magnificent accomplishments such as advanced age like myself, as long as a perfect rainbow of conditions exist. So when something beautiful is ripped from us with callous & utter disregard, such as a graceful duck or hoomin babies in a war zone, finding meaning in the future seems impossible. -- As reflection provides priceless ponderings, lessons must be born from these. Hard lessons, yet we cannot be blind to knowledge they bring. Once, I hated hoomins for stealing my babies, litter after litter, heartbreak after heartbreak for years in a hutch and then, *I* was labeled "mean" by those hateful baby-stealing hoomins. After I got away from those bad hooms & came here, I carried my hatred for hoomins even though I was given multiple husbuns to train & palatial accommodations. Four years of my life & love, were wasted while I festered with hate. Then, I got sick. I was 9 years old.-- To my amazement, I was not discarded for being sick. I was nurtured & given miraculous TLC by my doctor & hoomins. I blossomed into a flower of rabbity wisdom and monochrome beauty. I became the real me. My point is when horror and injustice seem insurmountable, we must look up! Light shines from above and we are below, even I, who am loftily perched on high am below. You cannot dwell in shadow; it is the light-killer and we must send the shadow back to its lair to live in contrast to all that is good. These are just words which symbolize hope. QUEEN JOSEPHINE WEEK. Day 6. (there are 8 days in Josephine Week) From May 2015. Just three months into her seventeenth year, Queen Josephine is at her most beautiful! Those golden days together were pure magic for the Queen and her Mama hoomin. Today, they are a near distant memory whose shimmering light waves still play off the corners of her mind. MH has learned over many years and loves that the best way to keep these treasured moments fresh is to put them to a song either of one's own creation or with an appropriate existing recording. For this moment and many, many moments in animal rescue, the song has always been, 'Shambala,' by Three Dog Night. I sing it while remembering the best moments with a rescued animal because everyone is lucky, everyone is kind on the road to Shambala, I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes on the road to Shambala, I can tell my brother by the flowers in his eyes on the road to Shambala! So scoop up your bunny, pull up this song on YouTube and look for those flowers in those big bunny eyes!
