Joseph becomes obsessed with Michèle after she is the reason for him losing his eye. But, instead of hating her in the way he expected, he is beyond attracted to her. She won't leave his mind no matter what he does. And as he witnesses her begin her journey of figuring out sexual pleasure, he is happy to insert himself and help her out.

Michèle is drawn to Descamps, has been since the moment she saw him. He is tall and broad and once he has the eyepatch on, his attractiveness becomes exponentially more. With being around so many boys, something about her has changed and she doesn't know how to describe it other than feeling hot all of the time. And, one boy in particular makes her feel like she is burning: Descamps. When he offers to help her discover what true pleasure is despite their past, she can't deny him.

Now, he really wants to kiss her. To touch her and taste her brazenly. Instead, he clears his throat and shoves his hands in his pocket so he doesn’t crash their mouths together in public.

It’ll all be worth the wait. There is no greater satisfaction than delayed gratification.

“See you next week?” He asks instead.

She nods before spinning away and walking quickly down the street. As she turns the corner and is out of his sight, he feels the urge to go after her—he hates to see her go.

I’m rewatching Mixte/Voltaire High to keep working on my Josèle (Michèle Magnan x Joseph Descamps) fanfiction No Angels and there was one scene in particular that has spurred on many thoughts:

Something I didn't notice before was how quickly Joseph follows Michèle out of the shop where they run into each other in Episode 7. We saw Michèle race out of there after getting the bleach and how she immediately went to Laubrac pretending she didn’t know he was there. To me, this shows that Joseph was right behind her and she knew it. Did Joseph intent to speak to her, or intimidate her further? Was he going to be soft or harsh? Could we have gotten a proper conversation between without any classmates around? Was Joseph disappointed to see Laubrac at first but then it gave him his new plan to get back at the Michèle and Jean-Pierre? A part of me wonders, was he jealous of Laubrac and Michèle, and that was a motivator to only act now, at the end of the year when he had a long time to do something in retaliation? Like, why now when they have been avoiding each other for so long? Now I have so many questions that will never be answered!

And, it bothers me because this moment between Michèle and Joseph should have happened soon after the prank on her and him losing his eye. You mean to tell me it’s been almost an entire school and yet they’re just now having this weird confrontation? They have been in classes together for MONTHS. It was so strange to see such a pivotal scene (prank and losing eye) involve both of their characters and it gets completely disregarded until the end of the show to simply serve a plot point for another relationship. It lacked depth because it should have been their (Josèle) relationship being explored. It was a high stakes moment that was essentially dropped when it could have so much more.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the tension of eye contact throughout the school year, but it should have come to more than that. I was convinced their rivalry would be a central part of the show and it was lackluster without it, which means Joseph should have been a main character, not a side one. He was a main antagonist that wasn’t explored and, to me, it hurt the development of the show—especially Michèle as a character (but I could write an entire post about her character and how the writers dropped the ball with her). Even the lack of confrontation between Joseph and Jean-Pierre until the finale where they bump into each other at the party just didn’t add up.

To end my rant, I love this show and I love Josèle, but it still makes me sad to see immeasurable amounts of wasted potential between these two characters that could (should) have been explored.

“You have a transistor radio!” Michèle says with excitement. She turns to him, holding it. “What do you listen to on it?” Joseph shrugs. “Nothing, yet.” “My mom would never let me have one of these, not in a million years,” Michèle says with a hint of sadness. “I can only listen to the broadcasts they choose.” “Play whatever you’d like.” He gestures for her to do so, wanting to cheer her up. She turns it on and finds a station playing something soft and instrumental; almost romantic, before setting it gently back on his desk.  Joseph steps forward so they are less than a foot apart, liking how she has to crane her neck to look up at him when they are this close. She reaches forward and grabs his sides, almost as if to steady herself. He cradles her face in his hands and pulls her in for a kiss. They are in tune with the music: slow and passionate.

Chapter 2 of my Michèle Magnan/Joseph Descamps story No Angels is live on AO3!

She had been in such a rush to give the blazer to Jean-Pierre that she didn’t have time to look it over, other than to note how it felt in her hands—it was soft and a good material. Looking at it closer now, she can see that Descamps is definitely more well off than her family is. She clutches the dark gray blazer in her hands and brings it toward her face. Slowly, she inhales a deep breath. There are hints of the products her brother uses since he wore it last, but beneath that is all Descamps; the earthy aroma of tobacco and the fresh scent of something citrusy.

By the way Joséph was right behind Michéle the second she lift the shop, I was hoping for a scene where he presses her against the wall or something. But clearly the writers and directors didn’t have their enemies to lovers caps on.

But also from the way she kept staring at him in every single episode since the second she’s seen him, has me thinking and knowing that if the show had gotten (and is still able to get) more seasons out of it, that the writers would’ve probably explored that more. That it would’ve been a slow-burn of a relationship for them, mixed in with the Enemies to Lovers & Bully/Victim trope.

Also idk if you caught it or not, but in one of the episodes after Joséph loses his eye and Michéle’s staring at him and he’s staring right back at her, there’s a moment where it goes into an open wide camera shot, and you can see them still staring intensely at each other.

When I say that the show needs to get picked right back up and have that relationship explored, even if it’s just a hookup. It needs to happen. Or at least have someone remake the show and do it right with those characters. Hopefully the actors work together again in another project that has similar concepts because they have really great chemistry even if it wasn’t explored nor shown as much.

Love your fanfics by the way! Can’t wait to read what else you have in store for those stories and characters.

The writers did not have their enemies to lovers cap on and it was their demise. I can’t believe they missed the potential that Joseph and Michèle had. I agree that if they now got a season 2 knowing they are the most popular relationship, then they would follow through on them!

I would have LOVED for Joseph to have confronted Michèle outside of shop without Laubrac there. Him getting in front of her (after following her so closely out of the store—love that this is canon) and throwing out a hand to stop her in her tracks and essentially caging her in with his body to mess with her? Would have been golden. I would have kissed the writers feet lol.

I will have to look for that wide shot! I would love if other creators see josèle’s potential and follow through with it in future shows and books! But, I would love the actors for Michèle and Joseph working together in the future because that chemistry was insane and I think they would kill it playing enemies to lovers again.

They fall into a comfortable silence as they continue snacking and they somehow end up sitting so that Joseph is laying with his head in her lap. Her fingers find a winding rhythm through his light brown hair and he lets out a satisfied sigh at the action. They sit in silence, and Michèle studies the boy in her lap. His eye has been shut for a while, and she begins to wonder if he has fallen asleep, but then he reaches into the basket (making sure to not leave her lap) and starts peeling an orange—the last of the food.  She laughs as he holds up a peeled slice in front of her face. When she opens her mouth, he gently places it inside. As she bites down, the sweetness of the fruit cascades through her mouth.  Joseph throws a slice into his mouth with a smile as he watches her. He continues to share it with her. Piece by piece until it is gone.

There is the clicking of someone’s shoes on the road.

Joseph snaps to attention, waiting to see if they will come around the corner to find his hiding spot. What if it’s not Michèle? But, his worries melt away as he immediately recognizes the love of his life. At the sight of her, he almost crumbles with relief as the exhaustion of the last day hits him and he knows she is now safe with him.

“Joseph!” She cries and runs toward him.

He meets her in the middle and she launches herself into his arms. He catches her and holds her tightly to him, spinning them around.

“I’ve missed you,” he whispers into her hair as she snuggles into the crook of his neck.

He stops moving and they stay embraced in the middle of the empty street. He is happy to simply hold her.

Hello dear🫶🏻❤️‍🩹,first of all thank you for giving the "start" to the fanfictions about Joseph and Michèle. Now finally ,thanks to you,other people writing about them too.Also I have to say that I really miss "No Angels" I LOVED YOUR STYLE IN WRITING (and I would really like to be able to read it all over again as if it were the first time). Having said that, I know that life is full of commitments and other things, I know that you also said that maybe in the near future you could think of writing down more stuff about the two of them (like a Victorian style AU which is the trope that I love the most, because it vaguely reminds me of Bridgerton and I could easily see Michèle as one of them with a beautiful sky blue dress),but I would be very curious to read a ff (since no one has done it yet) that instead picks up where we left off in the series (I think it's this tiktok's fault https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeuo9BcP/ )and I'd be really happy if you were the one to write it🤗💓

I am so glad you like “No Angels”! It’s one of my favorite fics I have ever written. It made me so happy to contribute to such an amazing fandom! I hope that Josèle as a ship only continues to grow. 😊

I would LOVE if someone explored a “season 2” of the show, and how Josèle could end up together. I have definitely thought about it and I would do a time-jump! Skipping to when everyone has graduated and is a full-fledged adult. Without much thought into it, I’d have Michèle and Laubrac be broken up but she stays in Paris. From there, she and Joseph would bump into each other one way or another and their relationship builds from there as enemies to lovers. And the tiktok you shared which has short haired Michèle and long haired Joseph would be PERFECT for this.

Right now, I am taking the time to focus on my copious amount of WIPs that have been neglected. I will keep the time-jump Josèle in my mind, but if I dive into it, it will be a long time from now. I can’t promise anything, but I hope that someone takes this idea and runs with it!

(Also, trust me, that Victorian AU still sits in the back of my mind. The imagery of Michèle in a sky blue dress is utter perfection. I can only hope that someone else picks up the idea and gives us a Victorian Josèle!!!)

hi hi!! i love your ao3 fanfic so much. the way your explore the characters is just *chefs kiss* i am very excited, but also a bit sad to see the ending of no angels! i also wanted to share my appreciation of animating sideline characters like jean. i LOVE when authors do this. i was wondering if you had any interest in writing more mixte stories in the near future? even with another couple (josele #1 ofc 🤭) or in a royalty or victorian era au? i am so curious how that would play out and how sideline characters from the show would become more dimensional, main characters! anyway, i just wanted to extend my gratitude and admiration for your work! amazing talent!

Hello! ❤️ (I am honestly putting off writing the last chapter of No Angels because I am sad to see the ending, too!)

Michèle, Joseph, and Jean-Pierre are very intertwined so I knew Josèle couldn’t have a happy ending unless they were all on the same page! And to do that, Jean-Pierre needed some character development and I loved writing it! Commentating on the sexism and misogyny that was rampant at that school and in that time, was something I wanted to explore in Josèle’s love story and I hope I did it justice.

After Vassili posted on Instagram of him in character for one of his movies taking place in the Victorian era (sadly, he has taken the post down now), I had many thoughts about a Josèle story set in that time. But, nothing has solidified. So, for right now, I have no other Mixte stories planned, but I am glad the fandom is growing and I hope we continue to see more stories posted. :)

I tend to get attached to characters that I feel like had more to be explored and Joseph is exactly that. Michèle, too and I think they were wasted potential with such a dramatic start, so I couldn’t help but write down my thoughts about them. They could have had a great enemies to lovers dynamic, which is the route I am taking with my story. I am beyond honored that people like my jumble of emotions that I post for the world to see!!

Hello! ❤️ Joseph had SO much more to explore (along with Michèle and their relationship to each other) and it frustrated me that we won't get to see him expanded on, so No Angels was born! I am so honored that people are liking my characterizations and the plot I have chosen to go with!
