SOUTH AMERICA: ‘Archives of Terror’ Yield New Horrors by Darío Montero The so-called "archives of terror" discovered by a human rights lawyer in Paraguay over a decade ago continue to yield new information on the cooperation between the de facto regimes that ruled much of South America in the 1970s and 1980s. MONTEVIDEO, Sep 16, 2005 (IPS) - Paraguayan activist and lawyer Martín Almada visited Uruguay this week to hand over documents recently found in the archives of terror, which indicate that the number of Uruguayans who were detained in Paraguay during the dictatorial regimes was much greater than human rights groups had previously realised. In December 1992, Almada, who was held as a political prisoner and tortured in his country in the 1970s, came across a room full of official records in a police station near the Paraguayan capital. The hundreds of thousands of documents that he basically discovered by accident pertain to the torture and forced disappearances carried out by the dictatorship of Gen. Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989) in Paraguay. But the archives of terror are especially important because they contain secret documents shedding light on Operation Condor, a coordinated plan among the military governments that ruled Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay in the 1970s and 1980s, aimed at tracking down, capturing and eliminating left-wing opponents. Thanks to legal action by Almada, the archives of terror are open to public scrutiny. They are stored on the premises of Paraguay's Supreme Court, in the Centre of Documentation and Archives for the Defence of Human Rights.

Former Uruguayan intelligence agent Jorge Carlos Guldenzoph Nunez sentenced for dictatorship crimes.

The courtroom was charged with a palpable mix of apprehension and hope as survivors, now decades older, stood to recount their harrowing tales. They spoke of electric shocks, beatings, and other forms of torture that left indelible scars on both body and psyche. Approximately 50 survivors shared their testimonies, painting a vivid picture of the horrors inflicted upon them. The indictment against Jorge Carlos Guldenzoph Nunez highlighted his active role in the arrest, interrogation, and forced confessions of dissidents, laying bare the systemic cruelty that characterized the regime's approach to dissent. Guldenzoph Nunez's trial, which began in July 2020, was a culmination of years of tireless advocacy by victims and human rights organizations.

The dictatorship in Uruguay, spanning from 1973 to 1985, left a deep and lasting impact on the nation's collective memory. It's estimated that 20% of the population was imprisoned at some point, with around 200 citizens murdered and an additional 191 disappearing without a trace. These numbers, while stark, barely scratch the surface of the pain and trauma experienced by those who lived through the regime's darkest days.

Trade Partner Meets Again After A Year

A trade that gave one person and received four people became a trade that only four people received for free in a year? It's happening in real time in the U.S. Major League Baseball. It's a trade story that the Baltimore Orioles conducted with the Minnesota Twins about a year ago.

On August 2 last year, Baltimore traded Closer Jorge Lopez (30) to Minnesota. At the time of the trade, Baltimore was in sight of autumn baseball, chasing the third-ranked team in the American League (AL) wild card by 1.5 games with 53 wins and 51 losses, but he boldly sent out the team's closer. It was because Felix Batista, 28, had the best setup man and strong candidate for closure at the time, but it was clear that it was a bold decision.

Lopez was also an All-Star with 48.1 innings in 44 games and 1.68 ERA and 19 saves last year. Thanks to this, Baltimore was able to bring in four young pitchers in exchange for the trade. Left-hander Cade Povich, 23, left-hander Juan Rojas, 19, right-hander Juan Nunez, 22, and right-hander Yanier Cano, 29.

A year later, the trade is concluded to be a perfect victory for Baltimore. Povich grew to be Baltimore's 12th prospect, and Nunez also became the team's 29th prospect.

And Kano has been reborn as the league's best bullpen this season. So far, he has played 64.1 innings in 61 games, earning 1.68, 29 holds, and 5 saves in ERA. This year's All-Star selection was a given.

Therefore, from Baltimore's point of view, he traded the "last year's All-Star bullpen" to produce the "this year's All-Star bullpen" and earned three more promising pitchers.

But Lopez was very curved. He failed to meet expectations with ERA 4.37, one hold, and four saves in 22.2 innings in the second half of last year when he moved to Minnesota. Finally, Minnesota, the AL Central Division leader with 54 wins and 49 losses, failed to advance to the postseason as its 50% winning rate collapsed with 78 wins and 84 losses. Rather, Baltimore's performance (83 wins and 79 losses), which traded Lopez, was better.

Lopez didn't make a comeback this season either. He briefly showed a powerful pitch at the beginning of the season, but fell back into a slump and showed a difficult performance to use as a must-win bullpen with 35.1 innings ERA 5.09, 6 holds, and 3 saves.

In the end, Minnesota traded Lopez back for Maimami Marlins bullpen Dylan Floro (32) on July 26. We tried to change the mood by changing the two pitchers who had made ambiguous performances, but this deal ended up with the worst result.

Lopez threw 11.2 innings in Miami, giving up his worst career performance with ERA 9.26, and Floro is also extremely sluggish with ERA 5.91 in 10.2 innings in Minnesota.

Miami's patience has reached its limit, and Lopez has been waived. Baltimore made a claim to this Lopez and brought him back. In other words, the trade, which took place 1-4 a year ago, has changed to a trade that has just received four players "free of charge" in a year.

Lopez said, "I'm really excited and grateful to be back in this team," as if he's happy to be back with a team with many good memories.

Baltimore immediately put Lopez into the game as soon as they signed him. Lopez took the mound in the top of the eighth inning when he beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 today (4th) our time. He made his first appearance in a Baltimore uniform since July 29 last year.

Lopez hit a double by the first batter, but later blocked one inning without losing a point by hitting all three batters, including one strikeout.

Currently, Baltimore has 85 wins and 51 losses (0.625 winning rate), ranking first in the AL as well as in the AL East. However, he is being chased by the Tampa Bay Rays (83 wins and 54 losses, 0.606) which is the second-ranked team in the East Division.

It's virtually certain that you'll make it to the postseason as a wild card, but you can't be relieved that you're No. 1 in the district who can go straight to the division series. This is why attention is being paid to whether Lopez, who returned after a year, will help Baltimore "protect the lead" by forming an iron wall bullpen with Cano 메이저사이트

Eine uruguayische Parlamentsdelegation erkundigt sich nach der Entwicklungsdynamik in der Region Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra

Laâyoune–Eine parlamentarische Delegation des uruguayischen Senats erfuhr am Mittwoch von der Entwicklungsdynamik in der Region Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra in verschiedenen Bereichen.

So erfuhren die Mitglieder der Delegation unter der Führung des Vizepräsidenten des Senats und des Vorsitzenden der parlamentarischen Freundschaftsgruppe Uruguay-Marokko, Jorge Gandini, von den Maßnahmen und auch von den Bemühungen, die Basisinfrastrukturen in der Region zu erstarken und der Entwicklung neues Leben einzuhauchen, und dies vermittels des neuen Entwicklungsmodells zu Gunsten der südlichen Provinzen, das in 2015 vonseiten seiner Majestät des Königs Mohammed VI ins Leben gerufen wurde.

Dieser Besuch ermöglichte es überdies den Mitgliedern des uruguayischen Senats aus verschiedenen politischen Fraktionen, die in den südlichen Provinzen des Königreichs erzielte Entwicklung und das in der Region vorherrschende Klima der Sicherheit, der Ruhe und der Stabilität sowie die Rolle der gewählten Verwaltungsräte in die örtlichen Angelegenheiten in der Region aus erster Hand feststellen zu dürfen.

In einer Erklärung an die Presse am Schluss dieses Besuchs hob der Vizepräsident des Senats, Jorge Gandini, hervor, dass dieser Besuch es der parlamentarischen Delegation möglich machte, sich eingehend nach der  Situation in der Region zu erkundigen und den Entwicklungsstand in allen Sektoren zu entdecken.

Herr Gandini, ebenfalls Vorsitzender der parlamentarischen Freundschaftsgruppe Uruguay-Marokko, brachte die Absicht der Delegation zur Sprache, ihre Beobachtungen in Hinsicht auf die Entwicklung der Region an die Regierung und an das Parlament seines Landes weiterleiten zu haben.

Die stellvertretende Vorsitzende des mit internationalen Beziehungen betrauten Ausschusses des uruguayischen Parlaments, Nancy Nunez Soler, verwies ihrerseits darauf, dass dieser Besuch es den Mitgliedern der Delegation ermöglicht habe, die Großprojekte, die Marokko in der Region ins Leben gerufen hat, aus erster Hand festzustellen. Sie sei "beeindruckt sowohl vom Umfang als auch von der Qualität dieser Großprojekte".

Frau Nunez begrüßte darüber hinaus die herausragende Präsenz von Frauen im wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Gef��ge der Region sowie die Bedeutung, die die hiesigen Behörden der Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen dieser Gesellschaftskategorie beimessen.

Der Präsident der parlamentarischen Freundschaftsgruppe Marokko-Uruguay, Ahmed Lakhrif, stellte seinerseits die Behauptung davon auf, dass der Besuch der uruguayischen Delegation in Marokko eine Gelegenheit darstelle, sich über die Errungenschaften zu informieren, die in der Region dank der hohen Fürsorge, womit seine Majestät der König Mohammed VI die südlichen Provinzen umgibt, erzielt wurden, feststellend, dass dieser Besuch es der Delegation auch ermöglicht hat, das Klima der Sicherheit und der Stabilität, das dort vorherrscht, aus erster Hand zu erleben.

Dieser Besuch ermöglichte es den Mitgliedern der Delegation, sich eingehend mit der Realität der Region vertrautzumachen, die dem Lug und Trug zuwiderläuft, welcher seitens der Gegner der territorialen Integrität in Lateinamerika im Allgemeinen und in Uruguay im Besonderen in Umlauf gebracht wurde und wird, unterstrich Herr Lakhrif.

Er betonte auch die Bedeutung dieses Besuchs, der Teil der Dynamik der bilateralen Beziehungen nach einer Unterbrechung von mehreren Jahren ist, nachdem Uruguay in 2005 die Scheinentität „DARS“  anerkannt hatte, hinzufügend, dass der Besuch des Präsidenten des Hauses der Ratsmitglieder nach Uruguay im Juni diesen Beziehungen neue Impulse einflößte.

Marokko sei als Beobachtermitglied im Parlament Lateinamerikas und der Karibik (Parlatino), im Zentralamerikanischen Parlament (PARLACEN) und im Andenparlament anwesend, rief er in Erinnerung, feststellend, dass diese starke Präsenz des Königreichs Teil der Förderung der Süd-Süd-Kooperation und der Offenheit der lateinamerikanischen Region gegenüber sei.

Die Delegation des uruguayischen Parlaments besichtigte die Großprojekte, um sich über die Qualität der Bildungsinfrastrukturen und der sportlichen und sozioökonomischen Infrastrukturen zu informieren, die in den Rahmen des Entwicklungsmodells in den südlichen Provinzen fallen, im vorliegenden Falle der nahegelegenen Stadtbibliothek und des Frauenclubs.

Früher am Tag traf sich die parlamentarische Delegation jeweils mit dem Wali der Region Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, dem Gouverneur der Provinz Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, und dem Präsidenten des Gemeinderats Laâyoune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, zusammen. Der Schwerpunkt lag auf die jüngsten Entwicklungen der nationalen Sache und auf die Relevanz des vonseiten Marokkos unterbreiteten Autonomieplans zur Beendigung des aus dem Boden gestampften Konflikts um die marokkanische Sahara sowie auf den Entwicklungsboom, den die Region in verschiedenen Bereichen durchläuft.

Die parlamentarische Delegation des Senats der Republik Uruguay besteht nebst Herrn Gandini aus den Vizepräsidenten der Freundschaftsgruppe Marokko-Uruguay, Germán Coutinho und Varela Carlos, sowie aus den Mitgliedern Raúl Lozano, Nancy Núñez, Nicolás Viera, Luis Gallo, Alvaro Viviano, Iván Posada und Daniel Peña.

Die uruguayische Parlamentsdelegation, die vom 19. bis zum 24. Februar 2023 Marokko einen Arbeitsbesuch abstattet, hatte zuvor Gespräche mit dem Sprecher des Repräsentantenhauses, Rachid Talbi El Alami, dem Sprecher des Ratshauses, Enaam Mayara, und dem Präsidenten des Königlichen Konsultativrates für Sahara-Angelegenheiten (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid, gehabt.

In ähnlicher Weise nahmen die Mitglieder der Delegation an den Arbeiten der 7. Ausgabe des Internationalen Parlamentarischen Forums für Soziale Gerechtigkeit teil, das am Dienstag in Rabat auf Betreiben des Beraterhauses in Partnerschaft mit dem Rat für Wirtschaft, Gesellschaft und Umwelt  (CESE) zustande kam, und dies mit dem Thema „das Humankapital: ein grundlegender Hebel für soziale Gerechtigkeit“.

He is now being considered as the latest talented player from Benfica to attract a high-value transfer away from Lisbon.  Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has already expressed his desire for the Red Devils to secure the signature of this promising striker. "I think Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League," Fernandes told Portuguese channel Sport TV in May, as per Record. "He plays with a lot of intensity, he presses very well and is really good inside the penalty area. He is strong. Obviously, he is still very young and will improve a lot." Fernandes added: "If he continues to work as he has worked so far, I believe he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world. He is already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove himself. He will go there, something I believe he has all the capabilities to do." Asked whether the striker could join United this summer, Fernandes added: "Here, the best players will always be valued, be it Goncalo or someone else. I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say in the Premier League, I also mean Manchester United. "I think he could become a great reference in years to come.
