Jon doesn't have it in him to destroy Peter Lukas, and Peter is a sore loser. Instead of running back to the Tundra like Jonah expects, Peter bashes Jon over the head and brings him out to sea with him. Apocalypse averted, world saved, and most importantly Jonah Magnus punished for stacking the deck during their wager.

Peter never had a pet before, but he's certain that looking after the Archivist is exactly the same thing. He just needs to keep his new cat fed and entertained. How hard could it be?

Note to self: write horror fic where Jon is an academic student brought to a remote island by the Lukas family to get practical field experience but they and the fishing village they run is real fucked up. I'm talking people walking into the sea and not coming back. I'm talking pets and birds and fish washing up on the beach. I'm talking a town that smells like fish on a good day, and shit and viscera on a bad one. Fishermen hauling up fucked up fish that make you sick to eat. People still eat them anyway.

Jon has to eat dinner with the Lukas family, in person, every night. He can't go outside after dark. They have rulrs, you see...

Also There's a murderer on the loose, mauling people like some kind of wild animal. The inhabitants say the island is cursed.

Jon is a skeptic and doesn't believe anything that's happening is anything more than coincidence, rumors and sheer bad luck. Even when he stumbled across a dude getting eaten alive.

Also Peter is there! :)

Inspirations: The game Dredge, the Monstrous Heart book series by Claire McKenna, the movies The Lighthouse and The King Tide. And Lovecraft. Loooooots of Lovecraft.

Recently I have been thinking about JonElias with Peter. I don't think many JonElias fans really think about him, at least within the ship context, and I'm included despite being a big PLukas fan.

But I think that there is some potential there. I don't particularly see Peter and Jon having any proper feelings for eachother, especially considering each of their relationships with Elias, but I think they would develop Something just by circumstance.

I like the idea of them discovering it comepletely on accident, too. Like, Jon ending up borrowing clothes from Peter, thinking they're Elias', and Peter pointing it out to him and they both have a little moment like. Why Don't I Mind This.

Oh yeah, I started writing a fanfic. I keep forgetting to post about it, so I am doing so now. It is J/mart being used for an endgame of PeterJonElias, and it has an ooc and terrible Web!Martin. I have tried my best to put content warnings before each chapter, so I hope it is enjoyable.

Mm, I've drifted away from shipping aside from JE (which actively enriches the text to me), but I think Jonpeter has potential precisely because of how lonely Jon is as a person. Do you have any thoughts? :eyes:

Came across your blog and fell in love with your takes on arguably the most important dynamic in tma (like it made me miss them and actually start a relisten after like never finding the energy to after the finale years back). Do you happen to write any fics or have any fic recs?

Death Be Not Proud, by Startless - is another prison visit fic, but it's an AU where jon chose to die in his coma and woke up as an avatar of the end.

Pinned in vain desire, by statuscrows is about jon slowly developing compulsion which causes problems for elias :) they probably write the most in-character elias. he's not nice, but he's fond of jon. i recommend, like, every single one of their je fics. nobody writes beholding powers quite like them, almost every fic is based around an aspect of the beholding. Skeptic is an AU where jon finds gertrude's tape on the first day of the job. statuscrows always writes jon with his early seasons abrasiveness and mean streak intact, which is really all i want from jon's characterisation. i don't want nice jon, take that awayyy; Ritual misery is set immediately after 160 and is doing more interesting things with the web than all of S5 put together; From his prospect high - jonathan sims learns to See; Quenched in darkness you shall see - this is noncon and dead dove. read the tags! reccing this because ritual voyeurism to please the beholding is a real and true concept.

Perchance to Dream, by parva_dae and once upon a dream, by indelibleangel - are dream fics, inspired by MAG 120. first one is a snippet of elias poking around in jon's head and worsening his fear and paranoia. he would do that ^_^ and in the second one they talk. and kiss.

and lilies, by kototyph - i read two chapters while it was still ongoing but it's finished now and i haven't gotten around to it yet, but from what i remember this had, like, revolutionary elias characterisation. he's a disaster. a very well put together, beautiful disaster.

also these two one shots they wrote for jonelias week which i liked very much :3

something different crosses the threshold, by aguntoaknifefight - amnesia. classic.

a heavenly madness, by roundthedecay - this is one of the very few, proper gothic fics with these two. there's a cursed oil painting. jon's having his life ruined by said cursed painting. and jonah/elias gets a proper gothic villain treatment.

Worn to Shadows, by Ash_Rabbit, which somewhat satisfies my bluebeard itch, but it's an AU with no institute.

everything Candentia has ever written, basically. they write entity horror really well, and i think almost every one of their je fics are squarely in the horror genre, which i appreciate very much. i'm here for the horror. and you have to check out Beholding's Own if only for the jonah chapters. it doesn't have that older mentor shaping the younger in their own image dynamic because this an AU in which they're childhood friends. but it's so good. it's so good!! the georgian jonah chapters are exquisite. the tone, voice, word choice, atmosphere, general everything. also, some serious wuthering heights stuff happening between these two. like, they get it. they get it! they've also written a bluebeard (and cupid & psyche) adjacent fic - darkly, which is a fairy tale au. and Where Hope and Reason Part is tagged dead dove for the detailed descriptions of eye gore. which is my thing. we need more of that.

Professional Distance - takes place during the birthday tape, has an excellent elias voice. he's evil. and enamoured by jon. and evil.

a glass essay, by fairbanks is jonpeter and only tangentially lonelyeyes and jonelias, but it's one of the most gorgeously written fics i've had the pleasure of reading. excellent isolation narrative and has symbolism which pays off in an unexpectedly perfect way. and as a guy who does not care about peter lukas or any ships involving him in the slightest. well. this got to me.

Scenes from an Epicenter, by NeverwinterThistle which is set during S3 and the first je fic i recall reading. the bit where elias takes jon home after distortion helen drops him in his office is canon to me <3

Dark Square Bishop, by Blissymbolics, exactly what it says on the tin. homoerotic chess match at the end of the world.

love when a ship is just two people fucking each other as a replacement for a third person

martinelias is always about Jon and jonpeter is always about Elias. Martin and Elias acknowledging they both know what it means to hopelessly pine for Jon, esp in s4 when they have to force themselves to stay back. it always comes to Jon, the one they truly want and the other is poor replacement for. it's better than risking their plans

and Peter and Jon both miss Elias even tho Peter is used to it, but he isn't used to knowing just how much Elias wants Jon, knowing that if there were no threat to his plan, he would be with Jon instead. and Jon is brooding because he isn't allowed to see Elias and also plain jealous. he is jealous of Peter who knows Elias better, longer. jealous that Peter is allowed visits and he doesn't visit anyway. he is jealous of their relationship and everything Peter implies that he wants to rip out of his head. it always comes down to Elias, the one they truly want and the other is poor replacement for. it's better than losing their pride and dignity and admitting how they both want Elias

How I feel about this character: Jon will always be special to me. He is the messiest of hot messes. He's brilliant. He's a dumbass. He's clever. He's dense. He's brave. He's a coward. He relentlessly wants the truth but is also afraid of it. He's hungry, he's lonely, his kindness leads to death and misery; he's a flawed human and a beautiful monster.

He's hilarious. He's tart and finicky but also soft and introspective. He's tired. He trusts too much and then too little. He's a sliver under the skin and a comforting blanket. He's everything and I love him. No one will ever replace him.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: JonElias is my true love, naturally, but I have room in my heart for the utterly doomed TimJon and the fucked up mess of JonPeter. They all feed different hungers and I was never quite as well fed as when I got to write all three. 😘

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Tim or Gerry. Jon needs someone practical who can also kick ass.

My unpopular opinion about this character: The entire JonMartin relationship was toxic as fuck and if the narrative/the fandom had acknowledged that, I would have happily shipped it as the wretched thing that it is. Let me gobble up that dysfunction. DELICIOUS. Let Martin Blackwood be the absolute bastard he was born to be. But as it exists: not for me.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Fam, I could write three different thesis on this 😂 but needless to say, my experience listening to TMA became an increasingly grim exercise in exasperation halfway through s3.

This is why I like JonPeter. Jon is so lonely in season 4 that he could easily be a meal for Peter, and Jon needs someone to anchor him. Case and Point: Jon should have fallen into The Lonely, and get pulled out by Peter because he doesn't want Elias getting pissy that he killed his Archivist. This, of course, leaves them forcefully bound together somehow. This situation also pisses off Elias, which I feel they would both enjoy, even if they piss each other off to no end.

But yes. Lonely Jon is a delightful thing. Especially because Jon grew up as a "difficult child."

More on my miserable lonely Jon obsession but I genuinely cannot FATHOM how that man wasn’t eaten by the fucking lonely in S4. The handful of people he has left in his life are at best ambivalent that he’s alive and at worst are actively dangerous and aggressive him upon seeing him. He’s got complicated monster feelings and guilt up the wazoo. His only friend is the woman who kidnapped him and cut his throat. He’d make such a great meal for the Lonely and I have no idea why it didn’t try for him.

It was GOING to have some more detail about what happened pre-Lonely (Peter's plan worked, Martin killed Jonah and went into the Lonely, Jon still followed but got trapped, there was some poetic language I quite liked left behind in my notebook) but I liked the losing-memory angle enough to make it more exaggerated than that would've allowed

alternate 3, because looking made me laugh, is Daisy in s5 being monstery. There are maybe 5 fics with Daisy in them, so it made me laugh to have two in a row show up.

S4. Jon and Peter (And Martin!) get married while Elias is in prison. Idk they mutually decide 'to hell with all Jonah Magnus's bullshit, let's go live on an island in the north sea'

Elias only finds out when he gets a requisition for divorce (from Peter) in his prison mail and then DIRECTLY BENEATH IT, a wedding invitation, complete with a picture of Peter holding Jon in a bridal carry and Martin with his arm around Peter and all of them are flipping off the camera. The invite says 'YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO FUCK OFF' (but also come I guess there will be canapes)

3 - What’s a fic idea that you have but haven’t written yet?

Oughh I have a couple! For Malevolent, I have an AU I'll get to eventually where Arthur is a sex worker who only ever sees a client once--except John, who he keeps managing to see again and again despite his self-imposed policy not to. For TMA, I have an AU where Jon wakes from the coma as an avatar of the End, as well as a freaky friday AU (partially outlined) where a Leitner causes Jon and Martin to switch bodies.

Mentions JonElias and JonPeter.

I want Jon to get pregnant from Peter or Elias. I want Jon to get knocked up because I think it would be fun to play around with. I also want this to be a "Jon is willingly The Archivist and enjoys it" deal because Jon deserves to enjoy his inhumanity.

I also think that Jon deserves the Mechs as friends.

Imagine: Jon gets tipsy at an event or something and ends up being chatty with the people around him.

This results in Jon accidentally saying that he finds Peter/Elias handsome, to their face, and as if it is a well-known fact. (It is a well-known piece of Institute Trivia that Jon had a crush on Elias back when he worked in Research)

I wanna see Peter and/or Elias trying for ages to properly court Jon before realizing how oblivious the man was. They quickly corrected the situation, of course.

After a bit, Jon gets pregnant with twins. A boy and a girl. He snips at Jonah and/or Peter until he gets naming rights. However, how long that would take is up to you.

Jon ends up naming the girl: Sasha Anastasia Sims, and the boy gets named: Timothy Marius Sims. Named after old friends.

Jon eventually has two more kids: Rose Alexandria, named by Jonah, and Antonio Raphael, named by Jon. Peter wouldn't want "The Attachment Associated With Naming A Child." So Jon gets to name 3/4 of the children. Maybe 4/4 because Jon could easily name a child Rose Alexandria.

Jon just deserves to give kids all the care, love, security, and safety that he never felt as a child.

I think Jonah would love taking care of a happily pregnant Jon. Honestly. And he would adore anything Jon creates.

Peter would help in non-visual ways. You only actually notice it if you are paying attention to him, or his coat, which now has a small child in it 60% of the time.
