The cognitive functions as major religions (controversy alert!!)

(Note 1: This post is not intended to be a call-out or a provocation of any particular faith or believer, but rather a good-humored discussion on the particularities of various faiths through the lens of cognitive function theory. I apologize in advance to anyone insulted or dismayed by the post.)

(Note 2: I am not a religious scholar, so take everything this post says with a grain of salt.)

Ti: Judaism - Aside from the Torah, the main book of this faith is the Talmud, a series of commentaries on the Torah, and the connected religious scholarship consists of commentaries of commentaries upon commentaries of the Talmud; the faith is in constant intellectual flux pertaining to its meanings and teachings, consistent and continuous breakdown and reassembly is a mainstay feature of this faith.

Te: Confucianism - While all faiths have specific tenets required of their believers, none are this specific or in-depth as pertaining to the requirements various believers have to follow, all in accordance with their position in society and the prerogatives that position grants them when it comes to improving the lives around/dependent upon them.

Si: Animism/Shamanism - Everything that surrounds us, everything that is part of our nature, our surroundings, carries a seed of the divine within itself. By nurturing that connection to the divine, greater benefits can be reaped.

Se: European polytheistic paganism - not a singular religion, I know, but they mostly all fit. Worship often requires a sacrifice (small animal, coin, some other gift) or a more specific and elaborate ritual, often performed on special days throughout the year, that involves props, dancing, and costumes. Also, the deities themselves revolve around concretising the abstract, either by duplicating the circumstances of a natural phenomenon, or tying direct and simple motivations to actors who can exercise influence over nature.

Ni: Buddhism - A religion built around a distinctive end goal of achieving a universal, almost transcendent, perspective, a grand vision of serenity, Nirvana, disconnected and yet acutely tied to the world.

Ne: Discordianism - The basic tenet is 'be random and be awesome'. Every member of this faith is also their own pope (or mome, if they're women) and is free to create their own understanding of whatever 'awesome' is supposed to mean. Insofar as clerical scholarship exists, its purpose is the relativisation of other spiritual perspectives, a dispassionate, but curious, overview of what else is possible.

Fi: Daoism - the pursuit of harmony and mastery within the self, and seeking balance with the world around the self. (can you tell this was the hardest to figure out?)

Fe: Christianity - the latin root word for religion, 'religio', describes a feeling of connection and sympathy for and towards others of your community, or your community itself. No faith has been as successful in harnessing this message and feeling, and none have been as successful in reshaping it for as many communities and as long a time. While for different reasons, and in different ways, many people turn to crosses with the same level of awe and amazement. It is so pervasive and effective, that followers find it hard to envision any connection to the divine that differs from their own. (that's regrettably true, a lot of early religious studies pigeon-holed other religions as main good guy and associates against main bad guy and associates for this reason)
