Costume Plans for 2019

In no particular order:

Akira: Kaneda. 2019 is the year the majority of the film takes place, so it seemed very appropriate. Been a fan since the 90′s, and if I do this, it’ll be a challenge – finding / modding a good jacket will be the toughest, and likely most expensive part. God, I would love to make the laser, and carry that around to a con. That would be a serious fabrication challenge. Estimated cost to complete: $135 US (no laser).

Alien (1979): Brett & Kane. This year is the 40th anniversary, and I’ve had a sort of half-assed Nostromo crewman / Kane costume for years. This is a good opportunity to polish the whole thing, improve it, add pieces, etc. The crew jacket (again) is the biggest expense & difficulty. Estimated cost to complete: $55 US?

Batman (1989): Joker Goon. Just in time for the 30th anniversary, this also seemed like a simple one to put together, but it’s harder to find a purple bomber jacket than I hoped. Estimated cost to complete: $65 US?

Invisible Man (1933): I started and tried / wanted to finish this one for around Halloween last year, as it would have been the 85th anniversary, but never did complete it or wear it. I’d still like to pull off this ‘classic’ and rarely done character, but I kinda want to replace the suit I got for it. This is lower on the list of 2019 priorities. Estimated cost to complete: $55 US.

King in Yellow (1895): I’m a big fan of period ‘weird fiction,’ and since this is largely a floppy yellow cloak, it seems both fun and (deceptively) easy. Next year would be a big anniversary (125th!), I’d love to have this ready to go. I think what would be really important for this would be weathering, and the texture of the fabric, and the shape of the whole thing. Low priority for 2019, but if I get that sewing machine I’m hankering for...

Matrix (1999): Agent Smith. This will be the 20th anniversary, and it seemed like a simple costume, but when has that ever turned out to be the case? The closer you look and the more particular you want to get, the harder and more expensive everything gets. That being said, I could just put on my current black suit and a white dress shirt & black tie and go. I would like to get a better-fitting suit, and some nice new black dress shoes, and a more accurate shirt, etc, etc. Estimated cost to complete: $15 US, minimum, $95 US on the high end.

Stargate (1997, TV): Dr. Daniel Jackson. No special anniversary for this one, but I bear the slightest resemblance to Michael Shanks, and (again) it seems cheap: just some olive drab BDU’s and two patches. This is a low-priority. Estimated cost: $70 US.

Plus a few movie-referencing mock sports jerseys, which should be pretty cheap to make, assuming the heat-transfer vinyl is durable. Really excited to try this out, because I’ve had this idea for a while, and never made any progress on it until I bought a blank jersey a week or two ago.

He molded a 1956 Chevy and 1957 Chevy and a 1959 Chrysler, then ALL by hand Created this Car Body.
