Kinuyo Tanaka and Hideko Takamine in The Munekata Sisters (Yasujiro Ozu, 1950)
Cast: Kinuyo Tanaka, Hideko Takamine, Ken Uehara, So Yamamura, Sanae Takasugi, Chishu Ryu, Yuji Hori, Tatsuo Saito. Screenplay: Kogo Noda, Yasujiro Ozu, based on a story by Jiro Osaragi. Cinematography: Joji Ohara. Production design: Seiya Kajima. Film editing: Toshiro Goto. Music: Ichiro Saito.
Some very non-Ozu things happen in Yasujiro Ozu's The Munekata Sisters. For example, the camera actually moves in one scene. Granted, it's only a brief pan across the setting at the end of the scene, but it was enough to startle anyone used to Ozu's locked-in low-angle points of view. But more unusually, there is actual physical violence in the film: A man slaps his wife repeatedly, and a few scenes later drops dead on the floor. The most contemplative of filmmakers, Ozu rarely deals directly with violence, preferring to show us the emotional consequences of disturbing events. The man, Ryosuke Mimura (So Yamamura), is unemployed. During his desultory search for a job, he is supported by his wife, Setsuko (Kinyuo Tanaka), who runs a small bar with the help of her much younger sister, Mariko (Hideko Takamine). The two sisters are very different: Setsuko, brought up before the war, is quiet and reserved and dresses in traditional Japanese style. Mariko reflects postwar attitudes in dress and manner: She's outspoken, with a spunky carefree manner, and sharply critical of her brother-in-law, whom she sees as an idler and a drunk. Then an old flame of Setsuko's, Hiroshi Tashiro (Ken Uehara), returns to town. Setsuko might have married him, but he decided to go to France before the war, so she married Mimura instead. Hiroshi is handsome and successful, and Mariko immediately sets her sights on reuniting him with her sister. Ozu develops all four characters with great finesse. Mimura is something of a dead-end case, and his outburst of jealous rage at Mimura's seeing Hiroshi again is frightening, but he has a softer side that he shows with the clowder of cats that he apparently fosters. There is something of the too-detached sophisticate about Mimura that shows in his scenes with Mariko, who falls in love with him while she's trying to reunite him with her sister. As a whole, The Munekata Sisters is more melodramatic than Ozu's films usually are, including the ending, which involves one of those renunciations that movies typically rely on as a plot resolution. But it's beautifully acted, especially by Tanaka and Takamine.

Deep respect to Ao-chan for voicing out her honest opinion.
I will not touch on this. Honestly, there are many things I want to say. But I don't want it to end with simply empathising with someone else's "how sad." This is something I must ponder upon, feel mad about, be saddened, and pray about on my own. This place isn't a platform for me to share those feelings. That's because I don't know what kind of relationships the people looking at this may have with the incident. I want to be like an idiot, sharing only fun things, intentionally.
It looks like it's because many people were asking her to address it and were semi-criticizing her for tweeting about having fun at Osaka when there's this whole fuss about KyoAni a few hours back (source).
She added later on here:
なおこれは、今呟いていらっしゃる方を否定する内容ではありません。私自身がわたしの中で気持ちの整理もつかないまま、公の場でコメントできないなって思ったんです。
Nevertheless, this does not mean that I am denying the people who are tweeting about it now. I merely felt that I should not be commenting on a public platform when I still have not properly collected my feelings myself.

Also to add on to the list, Kaji Yuki also tweeted a short message regarding the incident a few hours ago:
ただ、ただ、祈る。
I'll simply, simply pray (alt. I'll keep on, keep on praying)
I find this a little difficult to translate precisely, but I believe it conveys the meaning that though it may be out of our hands, and we cannot do more than "simply" praying, we must keep on doing so, if that's the only thing we can do.
He appeared on a live stream of a non-anime/seiyuu related program slightly before that, and his tweet from then seemed to be a little indicative of the incident as well:
自分にやれること、やるべきことを、精一杯やります。
The things I can, and must do, I’ll do them within the best of my abilities.

Yoko Yaguchi in The Most Beautiful (Akira Kurosawa, 1944) Cast: Takako Irie, Yoko Yaguchi, Sayuri Tanima, Takashi Shimura, Soji Kiyokawa, Ichiro Sugai, Sachiko Ozaki, Shisuzo Nishigaki, Asako Suzuki. Screenplay: Akira Kurosawa. Cinematography: Joji Ohara. Production design: Teruaki Abe. Music: Seichi Suzuki. Akira Kurosawa's second feature film, The Most Beautiful, is a kind of docudrama, a vehicle for wartime Japanese propaganda demonstrating the virtues of duty and faithfulness to the war effort. But while it's hardly subtle, Kurosawa imbues it with feeling for his characters: the hard-working young women at a factory manufacturing optical instruments for the military. They grind and check lenses and assemble telescopes and bomb sights. By 1944, it was clear enough that Japan had taken on a greater military challenge than it had anticipated, and the managers of the factory are tasked with accelerating production. So they mandate a doubling of output for the male workers, and half of that for the women, who are mostly still girls. But some of the women, such as Watanabe, who is a leader among the workers, are insulted that their role should be so much lesser than that of the men, and they plead with the company to set a higher goal. The rest of the film is about maintaining morale in the face of illness and fatigue. Watanabe becomes a hero when she accidentally mislays one of the lenses she is calibrating and, fearful that the lens might be flawed, she insists on staying at work well into the night, checking all of the recently produced lenses until she locates it. It's to Kurosawa's credit that the film makes as much drama as it does out of the situation, but he shares much of the credit with Yoko Yaguchi's performance as Watanabe. (He also married Yaguchi after the film was finished.) Heavy on stereotypes and sentiment, with a little too much footage of the workers' fife-and-drum corps, The Most Beautiful is mostly of historical interest, though it has some genuinely affecting moments.
