I'm definitely on board for the dynamic of johnolly post-reichenbach! I agree that it would be natural for them to take comfort in each other, and the fact that Molly knows Sherlock is alive and John doesn't lends itself to delicious drama...

But post-TFP seems more difficult to make johnolly work? If Sherlock's around, it seems more likely that they'd each be drawn to him more than each other... How do you see it working?

Hmm... Maybe if Sherlock started using drugs again, they'd both be so fed up with him that they might plausibly take comfort in each other...?

Random polyshipping day-related question: do you think post-TFP John/Sherlock/Molly could ever work? (No idea why I thought of this, really.)

This has been a lovely question to mull over these last days. Thank you!

Short answer: No.

Long answer: There are so many possible ways to have a polyamorous relationship that it would be completely close minded to dismiss it!

If we’re talking a relationship structure like the one I imagine possible with John, Mary, and Sherlock (be it a vee or a triad)the answer is still no, though. Most of all I can’t see John in that context. He doesn’t have a close enough connection with Molly in canon that I can imagine him living with her and sharing a partner with her. And if John, Mary, and Sherlock were in a polyamorous relationship before Mary died, I think it unlikely that they would enter into a new one with another woman.

As I said though, polyamorous come in many shapes and forms, and it would be possible for Sherlock to have deep emotional connections with both Molly and John that stretches beyond what we would call a friendship. This, especially if you – like me – like to think of Sherlock as asexual. Perhaps even more if you think of him as aromantic. Because then, the markers we usually use to define a Relationship disappear and the relationship becomes what the people in it makes it.

Molly is clearly important to Sherlock. John is clearly important to Sherlock. Molly and John are friends. It could work.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to demonize JohnLockers. I was thinking if that small section of JohnLockers who crossed over into FreeBatch. I don’t have anything against any of them. I actually read lots of JohnLock, Sherlolly, and Johnolly. I’ve even written some JohnLock in the past. What I can’t stand is people who can’t separate the actors from the characters they play.

I have a sick hubby. He’s just started getting sick. Probably flu. I’m going to go baby my hubby now. 😊
