Just saw Stanley Kubrick's 1956 film The Killing. It's incredible; I've seen very little actual noir and yet I recognized every single character in the film. Johnny Clay sounds exactly like you'd expect. Any noir cliche you can imagine is in this movie but it's played straight and it still works! Every sitcom has spoiled this movie but it's such a strong film that it's still a thrilling watch.

The biggest flaw is that it has a narration. It's simplistic enough that it feels like it was made so children could follow along. I didn't need to be told that the character on the screen is trying to make it to the heist on time! I knew that already, and yet that's about 80% of the narration.

Clay knows how to decorate, damn. That is a ton of jack o lanterns.

Ah my favourite totally innocent, not at all horrifying rapidly moving neon slime! I'm so glad it made it to the party. And no Buster, the lack of other guests isn't weird I'm sure, just don't look in any direction but the house.

Also, Ash running to the door to tell Clay they're there really excitedly is so cute I swear. She literally bouncing up and down.
