A thought past through my head last week when talking to the bestie about Sam and Dean renting movies and it remained a thought until the muses bitch slapped me and I made this one shot.

It's just cute domestic pre series fluff.

john didnt know what to do when he saw dean dote on sammy the way mary had done to dean before she’d died. the way dean always held him, brushed tears off sam’s chubby cheeks, insisted on dressing him up even when john would offer to so dean could sleep some more. he’d hoped it was just a childish fascination, something dean would grow bored of; grow out of.

instead it got worse with age, especially when sam learned to talk and walk. his vocabulary almost only consisting of “dee”’s and basic phrases. making grabby hands in whatever direction dean is in every time dean would have to set him down for even a second. it was a damn near miracle john was able to separate them when it came time for school.

sam was never a crier, just a sniffler. he’d spend hours rubbing the snot off his little nose and chin, his face practically bright pink from the emotions he didnt know how to handle while his fists sat balled up in his lap. sam would just wait, far too patient for a two year old, not even bothering to touch his toys. john tried to fill in when he was there, to fill as much of the six year old’s shoes as he could manage. it didnt do much, sam’s mood only worsening as the week went on.

luckily four seemed to be a turning point, the small child no longer a toddler and able to understand the concept of dean not being able to spend every second of every single day with him. john thought it would’ve gotten better after that, that sam would separate himself from dean some.

john hoped that sam going to kindergarten and meeting other kids could possibly help, too, but by the time sam was five, all he wanted was to be dean. every time he saw the kids, it’d look as if they were trying to crawl into each other’s skin. john would get back from a hunt to see them watching cartoons on the couch, dean holding sammy close with his hands shoved under his baby brother’s shirt while sam’s face was nuzzled against the juncture of dean’s neck. it shocked him more than anything he’d ever seen on a hunt before, anything he’d seen in the army. neither asleep, just quietly breathing in what was practically each other’s air in a position that was too close to be just anything. john walked behind the couch, ruffling dean’s hair to ask if they’d eaten yet. dean had made the two of them something already, and john had left them alone again quickly after to go out to a bar. maybe call bobby.

Bobby noticed things John ignored. He noticed Deans tendency to follow his daddy’s steps even in the worst places, drinking too much, hunting too boldly, taking his anger out physically. He noticed it growing and growing, and didn’t know how to approach it. When John died, he thought maybe it would change, but when Sam walked in with a bruise on his upper cheek and a refusal to meet Bobby’s eyes when he asked what happened, Bobby knew it hadn’t. He tried to talk to Dean about it, carefully telling him to watch where his hands went when he was angry, but Dean laughed it off. He tried to talk to Sam about it next, but Sam denied a problem, saying that was just how Dean was, nothing he couldn’t handle. Bobby watched as they spiraled, seeing John’s ghost in every room Dean occupied.

I'm such a sucker for fics from the pov of some NormalPerson™ who tries to understand what the actual fuck is going on with your fave. For example;

- Hermione's parents sort of got used to their daughter talking about dragons and curses and she makes it sound like its no big deal so they just go along with their strange kid. Except now there's a man at the door who says he's the minister of magic and he would like to personally invite you and your daughter to the first memorial of the final battle as she is a war hero of the highest order. What do you mean there was a war? Hermione, get down here this instant!

-Or a true crime podcast about the crimes of Sam and Dean Winchester through the eyes of someone who went to college with Sam. He hosts podcast nights and everytime one of Sams alleged kills is described he tells the friends who are listening with them about that time Sam went vegetarian for a month after watching a nature channel docu.

-Or Percy Jackson returns to a mortal high school after one of his adventures and one of his teachers has to try and decipher the transcripts from his old schools. How the fuck did this little skater boy blow up his last school? Why isn't he in prison??? Or dead??? The parent-teacher conference night that follows is one for the ages as Sally Jackson lies her ass off, but with skill.

-Or John Watson decides to go to a class reunion against better knowledge and Sherlock tags along to learn more about John out of boredom. His former classmates don't understand what the hell Sherlock Holmes is doing at their party if there hasn't been a murder and absolutely come to the conclusion that the two are together. They have to be, right?

you guys ever think what if dean went to jail. like… what if when he’s like 15-17 he takes the fall for some bs john did and goes to jail for at least a year. and leaves sam alone with him. like…

like. okay. im just imagining sam and dean as kids and they fight like siblings do (im talking in dean voice now). sometimes dean hits sam for being annoying cause that’s also what siblings do. dads gone all the time and when he’s back his feelings are too big for dean to handle and he cant be mad at dad cause it’s DAD, but that’s what dads do, but then sam‘s there when dad goes and sam’s being annoying as usual, can’t he understand what they do is important, can’t he put aside his own stupid wants for once, and dean’s so mad and he loves sam so much but he’s so annoying sometimes and he lashes out and hits him.

it feels a little different this time - dean actually feels kind of bad. but sam just goes quiet and takes it. and dad’s gone a lot. even when he’s there sometimes he gets really angry, too. especially when he’s drunk - sometimes he lashes out if provoked, swings for dean or for sam, sometimes he makes contact. but he never actually means it and besides dean gets what its like, dean understands. and he’s nice, really, most of the time, when he’s around, and he loves them more than anything, so it doesn’t matter. dean’s nice, too, to sam, he loves sam more than anything, so that doesn’t matter either. he’s dean’s dad and dean’s sam’s brother. this is what family is.

and if after a hunt sometimes dean’s still all fired up and sam makes a bitchy comment dean doesn’t like about hunting or dad or school or dean and dean laughs and punches him in the face? rarely sometimes sam hits back. usually more often he just scoffs, wipes the blood away, and turns back to his book or his homework or whatever he thinks is better than dean.

years pass and dad’s still never home and they’re both hunting and sam doesn’t hit back. he thinks he’s better than dean now, above the violence that’s been the language of the winchesters for so long. he just takes it. sometimes that bothers dean more than when they used to actually fight. sometimes it makes him feel guilty, sometimes it makes him more angry. but sometimes he likes it. sam’s not easily controlled and he’s always got something to say but this is a way dean can shut him up - most of the time.

its almost satisfying. it definitely makes him feel better. he’s pretty sure sam knows that, too; pretty sure it’s at least a factor in why he just takes it. maybe it’s his concession to dean, after all. something sam can do for him, does for him. maybe it’s that proof dean’s always searching for that sam does love him, no matter how often he talks about leaving these days. or maybe sometimes it just feels good to hit someone who you’re pretty sure will let you.

He always had a strange scent Bill remembers. You'd think it would be his expression, but if Bill remembered every veteran who came into his bar with the haunted look of someone who'd lost, he wouldn't have space to fill his head with anything else he needed.

Dean = hetero/bi/gay/other?

I felt he was being consciously written and played as bisexual, at least during the Kripke seasons. Taking the 15 seasons as a whole, the picture looks less clear to me. I'd be surprised to learn that he hasn't had sex with men and women.

Romance... I'd guess Cas is as close as Dean's come to a functioning romance with another guy, and Lisa as close as he's come to a functioning one with a woman. He holds a lot of himself back with/from both of them, even at the points where he feels very close to them, and I think his reasons go far beyond his sexuality/his level of conscious awareness of his sexuality.

He's mostly just damaged about the whole idea of bonding with other people, about exposing his vulnerability to other people, about family and protecting his people, to the point where he's too busy just coping with his upbringing, then his experience in Hell and his self-hatred, then his mounting losses/grief, then the unfairness of his rigged-by-Chuck life, to spend the time figuring out what life and partner he'd want in an ideal world. He remains sexually nomadic, and later on plain reclusive.

He never believes he's going to get that world or reap what he's constantly sowing with his own blood and tears. I'm not sure he believed it even in the finale when everything seemed possible at last. And I'm damned sure he didn't believe it in that ep of The Winchesters I watched last week.

john knew he shouldnt of let it go on, and should of been proactive years ago by getting dean his own adjoining room so they’d at least have a door when dean would bring home girls. not that he’s even heard or seen dean with a girl since that girl, bianca, back in wyoming a few months back.

john definitely shouldnt of let it continue just under his nose, shouldnt of started picking up more cases and letting them stay in towns for several months at a time just so he wouldnt have to sit in the car with them for days on end. he knows he cant undo any of these things, sams already fourteen and seems to hate him while craving some odd sense of approval john doesnt know how to give him.

john knows he shouldnt take advantage of the fact his sons are in the next bed, with sam pinned under his older brother and his head turned towards the door and away from the AC unit and john. he definitely shouldnt slide his hand from where it was resting against his chest as he slept, down his abdomen and shouldnt slide a hand under the drawstring of his sweatpants while he looks at sam’s tan skin shining from the yellow-white bathroom light.

it feels wrong as his hand wraps around his fattening cock, but then sam breathes out a moan into the silent room, high-pitched and so out of character for his youngest son. dean shushes him, chuckles into his ear and makes a comment about not waking up dad. too late.

john can hear every word dean says to sam, like the kid wants his dad to hear the crude, loud whispers of how sam feels around his cock, how pretty his noises are, how needy sam is. every sentence feels like a punch to the gut, but it only feeds his arousal as his hand speeds up.

john should feel disgusted, not enticed, but sams so responsive, keens when dean fucks into him and surprisingly doesnt protest when dean keeps running his mouth. his voice even agrees, soft but cracking from exertion “y-yeah, feels so g-good dee- pl-ease?” it barely even sounds like sam, his tone tapering off into something whiny and pleading before deans muttering “i got you”

john forces himself to stifle the jealousy bubbling up, since he shouldnt even want claim over sam in this respect, and should of coughed before rolling over to face the opposite way like he usually does when they cant keep their hands to themselves the few days john sticks around anymore. but tonight he’d stayed silent to grant himself some gratification and now he has to listen.

“stop looking away.” dean tells him, despite being behind sam and it confuses john till sam complains that “its embarrassing- what if he wakes up?! then-“

dean doesnt let him finish, using his hand not holding sam’s hips to grab onto his hair and manually turn his head towards their father.
