Past The Peaks (an au where dale and laura get out of the lodge and shit happens) things that happen:
Coop settles on a small house with Albert in Crescent City (because he needs to be somewhere green and pretty in the pnw that isn't Twin Peaks) and becomes an artist. They also have an emotional support cat named Nellie
Laura and Donna live together (far from Twin Peaks too) and write mystery novels for young girls about two girls solving crime that are on one hand nonfiction from Laura's side. Yes they also get a cat names Venus.
Audrey becomes a successful actress in Hollywood and solves a murder with her girlfriend Trudy (an OC of mine) during their first movie together
Albert quits the FBI, therefore Denise and Diane replace him and Cooper on the Blue Rose Task Force and have the most surreal adventures together
Hawk and Margaret make children's books in their free time! Hawk illustrates and writes them and Margaret narrates them!
Harry quits as a sheriff after what happened with Laura, Josie and Coop and makes ammends with Frank
John Justice Wheeler gets eaten by a cobra in Brazil

What is the deal with Twin Peaks Season 2?
Oh gosh so
Twin Peaks season 1 was a huge surprise hit for ABC, which obviously the executives loved. What they didn't love was the fact that the show, which focused on finding the killer of Laura Palmer, ended its first season without revealing the killer of Laura Palmer. In addition, the show was also such a big hit that they ordered 22 episode for season 2, about three times as many as the 8 episode first season, which meant a lot more space that needed to be filled.
There's also another thing here where season 2 also marked David Lynch putting more... Lynch things in the series. Season 1 had touches of supernatural or surreal elements, sure, especially compared to other TV shows at the time, but for the most part could still be enjoyed or viewed as a standard small town mystery soap opera by a wide amount of its audience. Compare this to early season 2, which introduces spirits, a cream corn ghost child, and sunglasses that possess you and make you smoke cigarettes. A lot of people were put off by this turn, either by it getting too weird for them or for simply not liking the more overt supernatural tone the show was taking.
For what it's worth, in my opinion, the first 9 episodes of Season 2 are phenomenal. Some of my favorite stuff in the series. The moments where Twin Peaks really becomes its own beast. One thing about this section is that this is where ABC was really pushing for Lynch and Frost to reveal the identity of Laura Palmer's killer, something they had never wanted to do but ended up having to do anyway. The end result is the killer getting revealed 1/3 of the way into the season, and the final three episodes dealing with the reveal of the killer and the aftermath are honestly amazing. Fantastic work. Episode 7 has probably my favorite TV moment of all time. It's that damn good.
But then a problem came - the killer was found. The central mystery had been solved.
And there's still 13 more episodes left of the season.
What happened next is one of the most famous quality drop offs in television history. Lynch, both due to his frustrations with ABC and also due to his obligations with filming his movie Wild At Heart, took a step back from the show, letting other writers try to fill in for him. The result was disastrous, with writers struggling to figure out how to replicate Lynch and Frost's style and what Twin Peaks could even be about without the Palmer case.
Some plotlines that are in Twin Peaks season 2, I shit you not:
A business owner gets PTSD and believes himself to be a confederate general, forcing everyone around him to recreate the Civil War with miniatures
David Duchovny shows up as a trans woman FBI agent
The show's Hannibal equivalent disguises himself as a horse and tranq darts a military general involved in classified Area 51 material
The show's Hannibal equivalent kills some random guy and stuffs him in a giant, house sized chess piece as a calling card
Local cool biker James Hurley leaves Twin Peaks, discovers a woman who is trying to scam him into killing her husband but that scam is also a scam from the husband who is also her brother to convince some boy to do a fake scam and attempt to kill him or something and it takes up five episodes and nothing happens and then James leaves the show
The main planned romance arc was vetoed by one of the actors so they had to come up with new love interests solely so fans would stop shipping the two of them. The two new love interests are played by Heather Graham and Billy Zane. They get nothing to do. Heather Graham is a suicidal nun named Annie Blackburn. Billy Zane is a cowboy named John Justice Wheeler
A 40 year old woman with an eyepatch and super strength gets amnesia and believes she's a high school cheerleader. They let her onto the wrestling team because of her super strength and she starts dating the jerk jock there because she's able to dom him
A woman becomes a door knob
They decide to host a beauty pageant to raise money to save a pine weasel. This is the plotline for the final few episodes.
We begin to learn more about UFOs and aliens and the existence of a dark dimension called the Black Lodge
Two men compete to see who is the real father of the sheriff assistant Lucy's child. At one point, they believe he might be the spawn of Satan.
They take Cooper out of the FBI because he went to Canada without permission and place him in Lesbian Flannel for the rest of the season (The only time Lesbian Flannel is a downgrade for a character)
The mayor's 80 year old brother, who investigates UFOs, dies by getting fucked to death by his 20 year old wife. The mayor brings a shotgun to the sheriff's office and plans to shoot the wife for killing his brother with sex and witchcraft. The police solve this by locking them both in the room together until they start to have sex and announce their plans to adopt
And this is just the simplified version of it!  All of this caused Twin Peaks to drop HARD in the ratings. Like literally from the top of the charts to the bottom. This stretch of episodes aren’t entirely bad. There is some good stuff there, the lore is important for future things, and the episodes start to pick up when the Hannibal equivalent Windom Earle gets introduced. But as a whole... OOF is it hard to watch.  Lynch would come back again to direct the season finale of season 2, hoping to generate enough interest from viewers and executives in giving it a season 3. He tossed out the script that was written by the season 2 writing team and made his own thing and it rules. The finale for season 2 is one of the best episodes of TV ever. A high mark of Lynch’s career. It’s so fucking good. It’s so good, it’s worth season 2 despite it all. And it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger.
Only to get cancelled.
Lynch was given the opportunity to do a movie to end the series properly and resolve the cliffhanger. Instead he made a prequel. A move that angered many at the time. And then 25 years later, Twin Peaks finally got a third season, one that was so good, it was named the best movie of 2017 by Sight & Sound. But the effects of season 2 live on, the way that it alienated audiences and put Twin Peaks solely into niche territory one baffling decision at a time.

I am so so so so so so glad Audrey/Cooper was not endgame. I hate the leftover tension. I despise John Justice Wheeler and think Audrey should have gotten up to more snooping and meddling rather than have a romantic plot line but thank you God that Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Flynn Boyle put a stop to the AudreyCoop line.

Finished the original run of Twin Peaks. The streaming service mixed up the last two episodes, which lead to a very weird experience of feeling like we skipped over a bunch of inconsequential stuff we could fill in the details on, having them wrapped up in the weirdest way possible, and then seeing the blanks unnecessarily filled. Also the ending of the finale feels much different if you’re assuming they’re gonna deal with it all in one last episode.
Final thoughts:
All the Horne family stuff after Ben’s meltdown just doesn’t work. It doesn’t make sense that Audrey and Ben feel comfortable being in the same room as each other, much less helping each other plan environmental events. The John Justice Wheeler stuff felt like an especially egregious cul de sac.
Window Earle was fun to watch but felt like a villain from a different show, which the finale only emphasized. “Guy who leaves a body in a giant paper-mache chess piece” doesn’t belong in the same reality as Leland Palmer.
Cooper immediately felt more interesting when he was being off putting my excited about things in the finale. It was a palpable difference than how he’d been acting for the last several episodes.
The Sycamore song in the Black Lodge fucks.
They really couldn’t have included a Josie scene in the Black Lodge?

Ted Lasso 3x12 - An Honest Review
I completely understand the amount of dissatisfaction with the finale. I had my own reservations and admittedly didn't like a few little things about it, but it didn't ruin the episode as a whole for me.
Thinking back to when the season three trailer dropped, they warned us about what to expect with the song choice - you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you find you get what you need.
We might not have all got what we wanted, but the characters we've loved for three years got what they needed. Not necessarily forever, but for now.
Nate came back to Richmond and patched things up with Ted. Roy finally started therapy. Keeley chose herself. Sam got to play for the Nigerian team. Jamie worked through his issues with self-confidence. Rebecca got her little moment of gezellig. Ted got to make up for lost time with his son.
The key thing to keep in mind here is that this is what the characters needed in that moment. And at this point in time, we don't know whether this is truly the end for Ted Lasso. There's enough wiggle room for us to potentially pick up where the finale left off sometime in the future. There are things left unsaid, moments left unseen, that have the potential to be explored further down the line. If we don't get that, then at least we got to witness a bittersweet ending for a beloved show.
Now, it wouldn't truly be a trademark Lauren Review™ without me finding at least one parallel between Ted Lasso and the work of David Lynch - so here it is.
The mixed reactions to the pacing of the show and the direction of certain storylines reminded me of the reaction to Twin Peaks season two, when David Lynch left to pursue other projects and Mark Frost handled the show all by himself. In the case of Ted Lasso, Bill Lawrence wasn't present for all of it, which is where some of the perceived problems come in. On top of that, the longer episodes made it more of a struggle for some people to engage with the show (which is true in both cases).
In the second season of Twin Peaks, in what was perhaps the first big 'shipping war' of modern television, Audrey & Cooper didn't get the happy ending the fans wanted (although their relationship would have been problematic if it had become a romantic pairing) - they remained friends. Both Coop & Audrey were given last-minute love interests that arrived in Twin Peaks to sweep them off their feet and completely detach any sort of meaning from their connection. Annie Blackburn was a cardboard cut-out of a woman who fit everything Coop needed at the time. John Justice Wheeler was Audrey's rich, preppy Mills & Boone hero with a private jet to whisk her away on any adventure she desired. One could argue that in the third and final season of Ted Lasso, Michelle was Ted's Annie, and Matthjis was Rebecca's John Justice Wheeler. The difference is, Audrey didn't get on the plane. She knew that whatever was waiting for her with JJW was too good to be true. That leaves us to wonder, what if Ted hadn't stayed on the plane? What if Rebecca's relationship with the flying Dutchman didn't develop? Where would it leave them?
The cast have waxed poetic about the beauty of platonic love and the concept of soulmates and cosmic connections, but for a show that lived by the rules of rom-com royalty Nora Ephron, there was no romantic payoff for any of its main pairings. That's not to say platonic soulmates can't be as meaningful and important as romantic soulmates - they absolutely can - but for all the expectations they subverted, choosing to duck out of putting the show's leads together by opening the episode with a fake-out, after all the groundwork they built for them, felt like kind of a cheap shot. I will admit, though, it was kind of funny. And let's be honest, they gave the TedBecca gang a few crumbs to work with in future fanfics. We have to at least be thankful for that.
As a qualified screenwriter, do I feel this episode - and the season as a whole - hit all the right marks? No. But it wasn't a complete disaster either. Sometimes jokes didn't land. Sometimes a scene really was too long. But it was long enough for them to tell the story they wanted to tell.
I think one of the main reasons there was trouble in terms of giving the story enough space to be told was that we're living in the generation of binge-watching and streaming. The Ted Lasso writers are old school. They've been playing the long game within a short format, and only managed to break out of that restrictive mold in the third and final season.
Do I wish Apple had pulled a Showtime and extended Ted Lasso season three for eighteen episodes instead of twelve? Yes. I think it would have given them just enough space to tie up a few loose ends. But at the moment, we don't know if this is truly the end - there's a chance we might get to see how things turn out. I know, it's the hope that kills you, but I'm still going to hold on to that hope. Because that's what rom-communism teaches you - there's always hope in despair.

Joe Harriott-John Mayer Double Quintet – Indo-Jazz Suite
Were there more justice in jazz history, alto saxophonist Joe Harriott would be acknowledged as a pioneer in the flowering of postbebop explorations in the early 1960s. A Jamaica native, Harriott made his biggest mark in the jazz world with his British quintet when they recorded Free Form and Abstract in the very-early 1960s. His brainy phrases accentuated lots of Caribbean elements (including tactical use of silence) as well as heaps of abstractions. Indo-Jazz Fusion catches Harriott in great form playing in a standard jazz quintet (with one of jazz trumpet’s true greats, Kenny Wheeler) playing alongside a quintet of Indian musicians led by John Mayer. The droning sitars and raga structures, along with the ricochets of Indian hand percussion, make both great solid frames and sliding, dramatic backdrops for Harriott and Wheeler to blow, albeit in measured phrases rather than wide-open amounts. Harriott’s pithy, sometimes piercing phrases are ideal when folded into Wheeler’s wide-tone blowing. It’s certainly a strange recording, but it’s fantastically pulled together. –Andrew Bartlett

Twin Peaks: *is about how a town turned a blind eye to the harm and abuse a high middle class teenage girl was going through because of how powerful her father was, and how they all felt guilty when she died and pretended they tried to help her when most of them didn't or couldn't do enough about it, all of them having different versions of her. the show is also about how the extremely traumatized agent who's sent to solve her crime wasn't mean to join the fbi and how he constantly runs away from his own problems refuses to acknowledge his traumas and problems which is what ends up ruining his life and the life of the dead protagonist. it's about the evil that men do, taking responsibility for your actions and protecting victims of sexual abuse and help them heal before it's too late. it was never about a battle between good guys vs bad guys. also in case you missed it sexual violence and abuse against young girls and women is bad*
Some people: aren't cooper and audrey such a cute couple? isn't laura palmer such a female rage icon? and btw dale cooper is as bad as all the abusers in the show including bob (i didn't read his book i didn't listen to his tapes), albert is a nazi because he was mean to harry and coop (although his last name is jewish and he explicitly states in the show he's against discrimination), james sucks (because he's boring and not because of the bad writing and acting on his character), annie sucks because she ruined our otp and her writing is terrible and we'll pretend john justice wheeler doesn't already fill out the space for the worst written character on the show, donna is such a bitch because her actress ruined cooper/audrey (she didn't and the actors aren't their characters), josie is so mean (although she's also a victim to many people and the racist subplot they did of her in s2 was terrible and icky) and awful to harry, laura is such a femme fatale that i will now draw an oversexualized version of her corpse (she was sixteen when she died and her birth date got changed by dr.jacoby in the secret history of twin peaks so he could get away with raping her btw), laura is also as yucky as bob like cooper except she's a sexy incubus who wants to destroy his life and yes if daddy lynch didn't take part (or his name isn't slapped in the front) in this extension of the canon that adds to the story or contradicts my theories i will not listen to/read it even if mark frost (who co-created the show and added a few of the great things about the show), and his brother scott, sheryl lee, jennifer lynch, kyle maclachlan and the writers of the show are involved ❤️

Ppl like to think of Scalia and Thomas as amoral bastards, in it for themselves and while I can understand the functional argument, I think a proper psychological argument has to consider their positions wrt Bork and Silberman -- all except Thomas came up through the Nixon Justice Department and the Nixon admin seems to have really focused itself as being the first conservative government since Herbert Hoover, in contrast to the heady days of New Dealism where influence peddlers like Tommy the Cork could screw over the common man so long as they werent so egregious that they disrupted the bread and circuses the people had voted for themselves
I use Tommy the Cork because he's one of the few New Dealer wheeler-dealers we actually have records of using his influence improperly but there were surely hundreds of them, they were called lobbyists -- they just didn't do what Tommy did and try to lobby the goddamn Supreme Court ex parte
You see this in the suspicion of govts argument and that can be ascribed to philosophical libertarianism but the reason I believe this comes from seeing Silberman talk about Watergate. He visibly hates the Committee to Re Elect the President and the Plumbers, but he hates the insiders just as much -- the ones who turned on Bork for trying to do his job after he had to catch the falling knife that Richardson dropped and Ruckelshaus refused to catch and most of all, the corruption of the DC courts, esp Judge Sirica.
It's funny, there's only two other corroborations I've seen of ex parte meetings being regular and understood in that era -- one from Kantbot & Edbergs podcast on Watergate, where Sirica met ex parte with the govt lawyer in connection with the guy leading the prostitution ring that Mo Dean (wife of John Dean) was involved with before John met her, and one from the autobiography of Roy Cohn
