Just came across designer John Derian’s 1789 Cape Cod home and I love it so much, here it is, in case you missed it. He renovated it, but left all the age and wear. In fact, when his brother came to see it, he thought it hadn’t been renovated yet.
You can see why his brother thought that. The water-stained, cracked wallpaper was left untouched, and so is all the scuffed worn wood. LOVE it. And, all the furniture matches the look.
Of course, this look isn’t for everyone, but some of us find beauty in decay. You can see the orange peel crackling on the door. That all occurred naturally, with age, and they actually sell kits to make that happen on new paint. (Doesn’t look as good, though.)
In the sitting room, there are very subtle clouds lightly painted on the ceiling. The 2nd photo kind of shows the ceiling, even though it’s an older picture.
I used a speckling kit for the floors in my former house, just as he did on the floors here. It’s very easy to do.
The home has a number of sitting rooms with fireplaces. Some of the chairs are deconstructed and some are slipcovered. I’m not sure that deconstructed chairs are that great to actually sit on. Look at the wear on the coffee table.
These were the original dining room table & chairs w/a raggedy little ping pong setup, which I like better than the new one, below.
The only thing I like about this newer set is the drippy candle. But, maybe upholstered chairs are more comfy for long dinners.
This kitchen sink is amazing.
The kitchen has modern appliances, but it also has that incredible antique butcher block.
Remnants of wallpaper on the stairs.
I could never figure out why that bed is so high. It’s outrageous, isn’t it?
This bathroom is lovely.
This is probably the master bedroom, simply b/c it looks occupied.
Cute little guest room.
This bathroom is very pretty and seems to have been redone with reproduction fixtures.
The house in Provincetown, Mass. that once belonged to a sea captain.

Best-in-Show From 2020’s Paris Design Fair
[ad_1]
CHAOS OUTSIDE the venues, thoughtful evolution within. That was the takeaway last week in Paris, where the bi-annual Maison & Objet and Deco Off trade fairs rallied despite transit strikes that snarled the streets and forced everyone into sneakers. Notable launches strengthened the portfolios of classic French brands—artful panoramic wallpapers at

Five Places to Visit in Provincetown, Mass., with John Derian
By KATHRYN O’SHEA-EVANS The summer crowds have faded in this bohemian Cape Cod haven. But the designer and home goods retailer is a fan of P-town in autumn and shares his go-to spots. Published: September 26, 2019 at 02:00PM from NYT Travel https://ift.tt/2ndcpFX via IFTTT

Target know everyone loves a throwback. So, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the brand’s first designer partnership, they’re bringing back some fan favorites. Do Missoni, Zac Posen and Rodarte ring any bells?
The accessible designer pieces you’ve lusted after over the years are making their grand return to Target for a limited time only, come September 2019. It’s releasing a major capsule collection of apparel, accessories, home décor and kitchen necessities that bring back 20 of its past designer collabs and it's being called the Anniversary Collection.
The range will include 300 iconic items from Isaac Mizrahi, Erin Fetherston, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, John Derian, Anna Sui and Hunter. But that’s not all. Harajuku Mini, Jason Wu, Phillip Lim, Altuzarra, Lilly Pulitzer, Marimekko, Michael Graves, Philippe Starck, Stephen Sprouse and Stephen Burrows will also be hitting the shelves of Tarjay. And don’t forget the aforementioned Missoni, Zac Posen and Rodarte.
All collaborations will be available online at Target.com and in stores across the country, while supplies last, on Saturday, September 14. Prices will range from $7 to $160 and collections and items will vary by store.
The catch? Shoppers can only purchase up to five items per size and color, so we better chill out on those Missoni towels. *Sigh*
On the plus side, the mega retailer is maintaining their commitment to inclusivity and will include extended sizing for women’s apparel.
In addition to the Anniversary Collection, Target is also releasing a Rizzoli coffee table book, which explores Target’s design history and past collaborations and is available on Tuesday, September 3. It’s also releasing a documentary later this fall about how Target has moved the needle for emerging and established designers.
Summer is great and all, but now we can’t wait for September.

Synopsis : [DOWNLOAD^^][PDF] John Derian Picture Book ZIP
John Derian's home goods empire reaches for and wide-in addition to the four John Derian stores he owns in New York and Massachussetts, his products are sold by more than 600 retailers worldwide, including Neiman Marcus, ABC, and Gumps in the United States; Conrans and Selfridges in the UK; and Astier de Villatte in Paris. It all started with his now-iconic collectible plates decoupaged with 19th-century artwork sourced from old and rare books, a process that credited him with elevating the decoupage technique into fine art. Over the past 25 years, the brand has expanded greatly to include home and general design gifts and products. From intensely coloured flowers and birds to curious portraits, hand-drawn letters, and breathtaking landscapes, the best of John Derian is here. The result is an oversized object of desire, a work of art in and of itself, that brilliantly walks the line between commerce and art, and that is destined to become the gift book of the season.

My Top Home Interiors Sources
I’ve been going down the rabbit hole of all things interior decor lately as we gear up for our move next month.
We are planning to take as many pieces from our current home into our next, however there are a few rooms that we’ll need to design from scratch. Because I know so many of you love interior decor just as much as I do, I wanted to share my top go to resources. I’m not one to keep my sources a top secret, there’s enough amazing style to share with everyone. Plus, it’s always fun to see how different people interpret various pieces in their own way.
Happy shopping!

Designer John Derian has more than one home and I love them all. This is his place in the East Village in New York City and it’s so full of charm. (I guess it helps that he also owns several antique shops, too.)
His old homes are always full of antiques, charm, and mismatched pieces. Notice how the furniture is more scattered than placed around the table, or in any kind of order.
The master bedroom is so simple and yet so beautiful Look at the floors- they’re ancient.
In the bathroom old and new are seamlessly meshed.
My favorite is the kitchen- look at the sink. I wish I could find a full picture of it.

When Amy Sedaris was growing up in North Carolina, she was obsessed with what she calls “hospitality shows,” on which hosts would convey homemaking tips and entertain experts in their “homes” — which were, of course, TV sets. So for At Home With Amy Sedaris, her highly skewed reimagining of those shows, she sought a backdrop that would capture that warm but uncanny vibe. “I wanted that I Dream of Jeannie feel, where she’s in the bottle and there’s no other, outside world,” Sedaris says. She drew inspiration from favorite designers and artists ranging from John Derian to Rebecca Morgan for a result that’s meticulously assembled, down to the nonexistent products stocking the fridge and a lampshade made from dyed sample strips of fake hair. (Sedaris has the same lamp at home — she made it herself.) “It’s based on my apartment,” she says of her TV abode. “It’s just bigger, with a nicer refrigerator.”
