In the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

For a while it's fun to watch as a comedy. Especially Christian Bale seems to enjoy himself and is very committed. Michael Shannon and Mike Myers were amusing too. I also liked seeing Zoe Saldana not painted green or blue for a change.

But then the story starts to fray, the pacing slows, the movie changes tone. Robert De Niro didn't really fit in. Much of the last half hour drags with too much speechifying and explaining of the story.

Amsterdam hat ja jetzt irgendwie nicht die besten Kritiken bekommen, überambitioniert soll es sein, unentschlossen, was es denn sein will und worüber Kritiker sonst gern um des Herumnörgelns willen herumnörgeln. Wenn man es als schick besetzten, gelind absurden Krimispass in schönster Hitchcock-Tradition hinnimmt, ist es aber höchst vergnüglich. Einiges davon ist genau so passiert.

Reminds me of Midnight In Paris, where even an All-Star cast fails to lift the movie into blockbuster status.
