Sadly it's not currently available on BBC Sounds, but here are some clips from John Finnemore's Double Acts, an anthology series of largely unconnected two-handers.
A crash course in all things John Finnemore!
Now that we've all suffered watched Good Omens S2, and realized how incredible the one and only John Finnemore is - or possibly just wondered who the hell that man is, let me give you a little introduction to his works!
The most important one first:
youtube
He'll probably hate that this will be first one, but ya'll need to know about this. Yes, you will be playing it for the rest of your lives. Yes, you will inflict it on everyone you know. No, you will NOT regret it.
Next up we have the most wonderful Cabin Pressure where he plays Arthur Shappey (after writing the whole damn thing - yes, its funny as hell with an oustanding cast, and yes it will break your heart but i can't stress it enough, it will have a happy ending! Yes, that's a spoiler, but I think this one will be overlooked as we've been through enough heartbreak for a while, no?) It stars John himself as Arthur, Benedict Cumberbatch as Martin, Roger Allam as Douglas and Stephanie Cole as Carolyn. (There are guest appearances by the great Anthony Head as Herc!)
youtube
Here's some small excerts from each episode - you can purchase them here or keep an eye on BBC Radio (4), sometimes they do repeats!
Then we have his wonderful Souvenir Programme which IS repeating on Radio 4 right now!
youtube
And last but not least because that one will forever have the specialest place in my heart - Arthur Shappey's Lockdown Diary!
youtube
There's 26 episodes, getting us through the very first Lockdown back in 2020! Just check them out - I've always adored the man (because he's a sweetheart and the nicest man I've ever met, he's smart and funny and comes up with some insane storytelling!)
So yeah, this is all i can think of right now! Check out his stuff - and leave the man some love!
He deserves the damn world!!!

Kevin Robillard at HuffPost:
Tens of millions of dollars in television ads have made it clear what Democrats want their closing message to be: Donald Trump will restrict abortion rights, cut taxes for the rich and slash away at Americans’ health care. But getting a 24/7 news cycle to focus on positions Trump and other Republicans have held for decades is a tough sell, particularly when the news media can (rightly!) focus more on warnings coming from Trump’s top aides suggesting he has a fondness for Adolf Hitler and has fascist tendencies more broadly, or on his end-stage rally in New York City featuring a bevy of racist, sexist and generally offensive commentary.
Vice President Kamala Harris hopes she can spend the next week linking Trump’s autocratic ambitions to his right-wing views on abortion and economics in the minds of voters, a process her campaign said could be summed up with a simple line she deployed during a rally in Georgia on Thursday, when she asked attendees to imagine who would be sitting in the Oval Office in a few months. “It’s either Donald Trump in there, stewing over his enemies list, or me, working for you, checking off my to-do list,” Harris said to cheers from the crowd.
As the campaign enters its final days, Harris’ success in a nail-biter of an election may come down to how well she and her allies can combine these two very different cases against Trump, and deliver each message to the persuadable voters who need to hear it.
[...] A memo from FF PAC, the main super PAC backing Harris, sent to Democratic operatives on Friday warned against focusing too much on Trump’s fascist threat, noting its internal testing has found it less effective than focusing on Harris’ plans for the economy, including expanding the child tax credit and building hundreds of thousands more homes to lower housing costs. The memo was first reported by The New York Times.
In a statement to the paper, the president of the super PAC — which typically does not comment on its strategy or even alert reporters to ads it is putting out — downplayed the memo and explicitly complimented Harris’ rhetoric. The PAC’s research “shows people that the most effective way of using Trump’s words and behavior is tying them to consequences in voters’ lives,” Chauncey McLean wrote. “That’s what Kamala Harris does every day by comparing her to-do list with his enemies list, for example.” The Harris campaign released two ads on Thursday night using the audio of John Kelly’s interviews with The New York Times about Trump being a fascist to attack the former president, though it’s unclear how often either ad has run on television. In recent months, the campaign has occasionally released ads more focused on Trump as a threat to democracy without running them extensively on television.
And other members of the Democratic ecosystem seem to have more faith in using Kelly as a messenger to attack Trump. Blueprint, a centrist Democratic polling outfit, found in a survey earlier this month that Harris’ most effective closing argument involves citing how many of Trump’s Cabinet members and other Republicans have refused to endorse the former president. Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, the campaign’s chair, agreed in a television interview on Sunday. “When someone like John Kelly stands up and speaks about what it was like to serve under Donald Trump, speaks about how he clearly wants unchecked power, the American people are not comfortable with that,” she said on the MSNBC show hosted by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki. “It’s really important when people who are close to Donald Trump speak out about it, and we’ve seen that across all of our data.” But ultimately it may not be her own economic plans or Trump’s fascist threat that provides Harris’ most potent closing message. Her campaign used the Friday night rally, where the vice president appeared alongside Beyoncé and Willie Nelson, to highlight how the Lone Star State’s ban on abortion could soon come to swing states under a Trump presidency. Priorities USA, a super PAC focused on digital advertising, told reporters on Friday they were confident abortion messaging was breaking through with the persuadable voters and get-out-the-vote targets still available to Harris — people who tend to be younger, female and more likely to be Black or Latino. In the group’s polling, the number one issue voters said they had heard about in advertising in the past few weeks was abortion rights.
Kamala Harris’s message contrasting her to-do list with Donald Trump’s enemies list is a solid campaign strategy.

I love Paul starting out the day with Another Day because that's what I sing to myself while I open the episode file and try to find the right day, and wonder what mundane terrible poignantly sad things will happen this time.
But it's day six, so we're okay. A small oasis where all Paul wants is to impress Linda with how hilarious he is, and all John wants is to impress Linda with how easily he can make Paul laugh and draw him away from her. It all adds up lovely.
Well, good afternoon, I'd like to welcome you to the rehearsal rooms of The Beatles' entourage and their fifty press officers, where they're just breaking into a number called 'Across the Unicorn'
George's second breakfast. John's filthy hair. Ringo saying he's gone off the boat idea despite having literally never been on the boat idea. "Do you have access to real tea?" Yoko and Linda chatting. "Hello Paul, it's me, Tuesday." Linda's shy looks when she notices they're filming her. Saluting Elvis. Primal affirmation. "Only if you ask nicely." Yoko's chair dance. George's terrible drumming. Johns continuity clothes. "Commonwealth" "Yes" "I feel the most relaxed around Ring." ratatatatatatatatatatatatatata. Glyn and George's coats vying for dominance. "Can we have some more tea Kevin." Once more with Felix!
(I can't remember if we have audio tapes of Linda and Yoko today but I feel like their conversation must be Yoko flooded with relief at finally having a real human being to talk to about just how INSANELY BORING AND DREADFUL the past five days have been. I don't know how she did it. I love her, with her notebooks and her papers, and her desperately trying to find SOMETHING she can do while her boring boyfriend and his stupid band piss about arguing at nothings. Her whole conversation with Linda just looks like someone who is so ready to release every ridiculous thing a man has said to her over the last week to someone who will understand.)
John: There's a house by you which I fancy. Ringo: Lloyd George's? John: Yeah. So I'll pop in for a cup of tea if I come round, Saturday or Sunday... it sounds all right, it sounds like only about the same size as Weybridge. It was built for him in about forty acres as well. Linda: Forty acres! John: And about three lakes. You know like all joined together. So sounds good. £45000. [...] You press a button and iron gates shut on all the windows, you know, in case they get in.
Honestly though, my favourite thing today, is probably Paul suddenly filling the room with the Long and Winding Road, just sitting there and playing four notes, and the whole feeling of it suddenly existing when it didn't. I know it's the nature of music, but the nature of music is fucking magical. And something about how he doesn't even know the words yet - with that and Let It Be - there's something so tender about it that I can't put into words. (also his trying to make Carry That Weight into a lighthearted comedy song about everyday silly little troubles, while it waits for him, desperate to be more properly understood.)
#get back#get back january#look at me#having day six feelings on day six#(I'll wait and see how well I cope with day seven's feelings#before I feel too pleased with myself)#get back words

The harder Democrats hit Donald J. Trump, the higher his poll numbers go.
READ MORE: Was Last Week the Beginning of the End for Biden?
On June 8, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a federal indictment against Trump for allegedly mishandling classified records. But rather than sandbag Trump, Special Counsel Jack Smith’s 37 charges pumped helium into the reelection odds of America’s 45th president.
Trump’s Poll Numbers Rise Despite Indictment
Ten days later, ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl was astonished to see Trump rising in public opinion after becoming the first former president to face federal prosecution.
“A poll from Quinnipiac on a possible Biden/Trump matchup puts Biden at 48 percent, Trump at 44 percent,” Karl said on the June 18 edition of ABC’s This Week. “This is a poll, again, taken largely after the indictment. I mean, that’s going to make you — that’s within the margin of error. That’s a statistical tie. What does that say about Biden if he’s barely beating [Trump] or in some polls actually losing?” (READ MORE: Donald Trump Is the New Jimmy Stewart)
Trump’s showing is even more impressive when compared to that of his rivals for the GOP nomination.
In April, an NBC News survey found that 46 percent of likely voters in the 2024 Republican primaries backed Trump’s return to the Oval Office versus 31 percent who want Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis behind the Resolute Desk. Trump’s 15-point lead was impressive but not staggering.
No more.
On Sunday, a new NBC News poll discovered that Trump is the choice of 51 percent of Republican primary voters, with DeSantis now at 22 percent. RealClearPolitics’ survey average shows Trump at 52.1 percent and DeSantis at 21.5 percent. Now, Trump’s 30.6 percent margin is officially staggering.
NBC also found tepid support for the other GOP contenders. The all-forgiving former Vice President Mike Pence scored 7 percent. Chris Christie — New Jersey’s treacherous, execrable, self-humiliating former governor — stood at 5 percent. South Carolina’s former chief executive and Trump’s United Nations ambassador, Nikki Haley, earned 4 percent. Trump’s other Republican opponents all trailed the envoy.
To enormous applause, Trump told the Faith and Freedom Coalition on Saturday: “I’m probably the only person in the history of this country that’s been indicted, and my numbers went up.”
Americans Think Indictment Is Politically Motivated
How does Trump remain buoyant in the face of potential federal imprisonment? He remains higher than a Chinese spy balloon for two reasons:
First, about half the country believes that the legal proceedings against Trump involve a Venezuelan-style abuse of the justice system intended to hobble him for partisan purposes.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Attorney General Merrick Garland confirm that America is now cursed with a Heaven-and-Hell justice system: Heaven for Democrats and Hell for Republicans. Equal justice under the law is dead, and Democrats murdered it.
Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, James Comey, former Clinton National Safety Council Chief Sandy Berger, former CIA Director John Deutch, FBI official Kevin Clinesmith, and other Democrats illegally mishandled classified documents, and nothing, or barely anything, happened to them. None of these people had the power to declassify anything, nor did any of them spend even an afternoon behind bars.
Meanwhile, Trump stored classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence. He did have declassification authority as president and the court-confirmed right to keep whichever presidential papers he, and only he, wished. Regardless, the FBI raided his home, and, before long, Trump got indicted.
This massive unfairness has rallied the GOP base and even made some independents and Democrats empathize with Trump. Relentless Democrat legal harassment has turned the steamroller-like Trump into a sympathetic figure.

NFL 2021 Schedule Release Week 1 Fortune Teller Drill
-Matchup: Dallas at Tampa Bay
Analysis: Please try finding one hole on either side of the ball for the reigning Super Bowl champions. I’ll give you 60 seconds. Tick, tick, tick. Time’s up. Did you find one? My best guess is probably not. After hitting free agency out of the park by becoming the first team in the salary cap era to re-sign all of their starters from the Super Bowl, Tampa Bay has given Tom Brady a very good chance to go back to back. This Buccaneers team may very well be the closest thing we’ve ever seen to a team being completely Super Bowl hangover proof. However, this Dallas team is coming off a truly embarrassing season, finishing 6-10 on the year. It seemed like all of the life got completely sucked out of the Cowboys offense when Dak Prescott’s gruesome injury occurred. Despite the injury, Dak got PAID this offseason. In all honesty, it was hard not to raise an eyebrow when looking at Forbes’ World’s 10 Highest-Paid Athletes list and seeing Prescott at number four. Anyway, this upcoming season is the epitome of a prove it year for the quarterback of America’s team. It feels like Dak is going to want to come out of the gates with a bang and remind people just how magnificent his start to the 2020 season was. But the Bucs should still start the year 1-0. Prediction: 30-27 Tampa Bay
-Matchup:
Cleveland at Kansas City
Analysis: It feels like the Chiefs are the next Patriots dynasty. Maybe no team will ever accomplish as much as the Pats did with Tom Brady under center, but if any team is going to sniff that amount of success, it might be the Chiefs. This feels like another year when people will be saying “I could legitimately see Kansas City running the table”. Although in this game, the hype isn’t all one sided. After pack-a-punching their already talented roster through free-agency and a solid draft night, the Cleveland Browns are true Super Bowl contenders on paper. They fixed their secondary problem by going out and snatching up John Johnson III and Troy Hill from the Los Angeles Rams, and stealing Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, the 2020 Butkus Award winner in the second round of the NFL draft. This Chiefs team also somehow got better by bolstering their offensive line, but they are still the last team Cleveland faced to date and I think this helps the Browns. I am betting on Kevin Stafanski to come into Arrowhead stadium with a list of things stored in his head that they could have done better to come out on top last time the two teams met. For that reason, I like the Browns to pull off the upset here. Prediction: 31-24 Cleveland
-Matchup:
Chicago at Los Angeles Rams
A very underrated storyline in the NFL is the threat of the Los Angeles Chargers becoming the future king of the city in terms of being a better football team than the Rams. Justin Herbert is the real deal, and seems like a really quick learner. If he takes a big jump from his rookie of the year campaign, watch out. These days, the better your franchise quarterback is, the brighter your future is. In regards to the Rams, getting rid of Jared Goff in return for Matthew Stafford arguably extended their Super Bowl window which was about to be shut. Fans get to watch Stafford go to work in Los Angeles right away, and as a bonus it’s under the lights at SoFi Stadium on Sunday Night Football. Assuming the Bears go with the Red Rifle, Andy Dalton over 11th overall pick Justin Fields, they will most likely find themselves to be overmatched playing against a star-studded Rams defense. Expect Sean McVey to draw up plays that he couldn’t call beforehand with Goff as his quarterback. A huge performance from Stafford and the Rams would put the NFC West and the rest of the NFL on notice, and I believe that’s exactly what will happen here. Prediction: 33-7 Los Angeles.

Under Pressure
This is something I have been writing while I have been stuck on lock down as I suddenly find myself with a lot of time on my hands. I have been writing fanfiction since I was a teenager and have just got into Tumblr, even though I have had this account for a while. Decided it was time to put it to use and post my story here.
I have also posted it in AO3 and you can find it here:http://www.archiveofourown.org/works/23570293/chapters/56548318
I know fanfiction helps me escape ‘reality’ for a little while, so this is my escape. I hope it can help anyone who reads it escape for a little white too.
*Disclaimer - It’s a complete work of fiction. I have never met Taron or Richard and I have done my best with all the information but as I said, it’s fiction*
1
“The 12-step chocolate program: NEVER BE MORE THAN 12 STEPS AWAY FROM CHOCOLATE!”
“Milk duds or caramel m&m’s?” she asked herself as she stared at the selection of chocolate in the 7/11.
“What?”
“Oh, sorry Claire.” Robyn turned her attention back to the phone which was balanced between her right shoulder and her ear. “I am looking at the what chocolate I am going to stuff my face with tonight.”
“Last day was that bad, huh?”
“Ugh, don’t even go there. I swear, this whole exchange experience would have been perfect if it hadn’t of been for ‘Christina’. Fuck it, I am getting both and Mike and Ike’s and turtles. I need about five packets of turtles.”
“Turtles? Ro, focus!”
“Shit sorry Claire.” Robyn threw a pack of normal and sour Mike and Ike’s into her basket, as well as two packets of milk duds and a packet of caramel m&m’s before she went looking for the red packaging of turtles, her definite go to chocolate while living in The States. “Everyone else in the day care were amazing as you know,” she continued, holding the phone back into her right hand, the basket now hanging in the crook of her elbow of the same arm. “I just don’t know what Christina’s problem was. She knew I was there in a supervisory position and she still just gave me grief and stirred shit. Ohhh white chocolate m&m’s, I’ll have those too.”
Her friend chuckled on the other end of the phone. “Robyn, come on, step away from the chocolate for two minutes.”
“Oh yes crisps! Of course, genius Claire.” She moved down the aisle towards the shelving which held all the many packets of chips and pulled three red bags of Doritos off the shelf and let them tumble into the basket on her arm.
“Not what I meant.”
“Ice cream!”
“Do you want to have a sugar coma on the plane home tomorrow?”
Robyn sighed. “No, I really don’t.”
“Then put the crisps back.” Reluctantly, Robyn put the three bags of crisps she had grabbed back onto the shelf, listening to her best friends’ advice. “Now you can keep the chocolate because you can give me some when we meet but seriously, what happened? I know you. You are avoiding the subject which means something really terrible happened or something really terrible happened.”
Robyn gently dropped the basket onto the ground, stood in the confectionary aisle and turned her attention to her friend, while leaning on a waist high steel basket that was selling scented candles. “Right so I have no idea what got into her head, but she thought it was a wonderful idea to have all thirty-three children out in the garden at the same time, with only two staff members, while the third staff member stayed inside and completed some paper work as Christina told her it was perfectly fine to do that. Thirty-three of them with two staff members! No thought for the children’s safety or our ratios. I went out to speak to her immediately, asking where Judith was, explaining for the millionth time that she, Christina, knows that many children cannot be outside at once and she rolled her eyes at me. Rolled her eyes Claire!” Robyn’s tone was full of disgust. “And of course, as soon as I went to get my teacher stare and voice on, one of the children who was on a motorbike, lost his balance and went straight into the stone wall.”
“No!”
“Oh yes and what did Christina do?”
“Do I want to even know?”
“Told poor little Kevin to get up and walk it off. Jesus, Claire I lost it. I actually let my temper get the better of me and I lost it with her, for about three seconds until I realised that poor little Kevin’s forehead was pumping blood and he was in hysterics.”
“Oh, shit no,”
“Oh, shit yes. I’m only glad I stay calm in a bloody crisis because Louise just stood there staring at the calamity unfolding in front of her and Christina starting freaking out over the blood and despite the noise outside, Judith stayed where she was inside doing paperwork. Then the manager came out during this whole episode to see me holding my hand to Kevin’s head, trying to stop the bleeding, while comforting him, Louise still standing frozen staring and Christina now yelling at me for causing the whole incident outside. Serious shitstorm in a bottle.” Robyn had picked up her basket and walked over towards the fridges, while retelling the drama that had unfolded that morning, opened the door to take out a bottle of mountain dew and put it in her basket.
“Don’t tell me she tried to blame it all on you.”
“Oh tried…” Robyn put her basket back down and on the ground. “…and thought she had succeeded until, Regina, the manager, piped up to say that we, me and her, had been in an exit meeting in the office and both had seen the children playing in the garden in such high numbers on the security camera and she had asked me to go and out and see why it was so and then she also saw the scene Christina was creating and how Kevin had fallen off his bike as there were too many children in the garden. I knew I always like Regina. She always had my back.”
“What about Kevin.”
“Thankfully he was ok. There was a lot of blood, but that was to be expected with a head wound, but thankfully it wasn’t actually that bad. The cut was much smaller than I had anticipated. I cleaned him up and patched him up but had already called his parents and they came and picked him up. Brought him to the doctors to get checked out. They rang as I left work, he will be just fine. They glued the little wound back together and are keeping an eye on him but he will be absolutely fine and hopefully there shouldn’t be a scar either.”
“Well you have had an eventful last day.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Hence the absurd amount of chocolate.”
“Absolutely. My plan is to go home, put on my pyjama’s, finish packing, order my last American pizza, stuff myself stupid on junk food and watch movies that involve some form of a gorgeous looking man.”
“I think that is a perfect plan but please tell me the other girls in the day care were sorry to see you go. I mean it has been the last six months of your life and you were their supervisor.”
Robyn sighed. “It’s been a dream. I have enjoyed it all Claire, you know I have. It has been an incredible experience and the other staff were amazing. I have made some great friends. We had a laugh while working together, taught each other a lot and we definitely enjoyed our last night out together last weekend. It has been such a great programme to get the opportunity to be involved in and to be in Clearwater Florida of all places to do it? You know I love this place. Christina may have been a serious pain in my arse but everyone else has been so lovely and not to mention teaching all the kids. It was so hard to say goodbye to them today. I think I have cried about four times before I actually left the building.”
“I can only imagine but you are back to work here on Monday, right?”
“Yep, I have been speaking to Emma in creche and we are looking forward to bringing some of the ideas I have been working with here into our creche setting. We are going to develop a plan on it once I get settled back in.”
“Yeah into the cold and the rain.” Robyn laughed at her friend’s glumness. “Hope you are going to enjoy your last morning of beautiful sunshine tomorrow.”
Robyn looked down at her sun kissed arms, six months in Florida helping her skin become a dark golden-brown colour, which she knew would be gone in an instant once she was home. “I shall be at the beach first thing, if I survive my sugar coma.” She looked in her basket. “Yeah I need to put some of this back on the shelf.”
“No keep it!” laughed Claire. “I was serious when I said bring it home to me. I can’t wait to see you on Sunday. I will definitely eat those milk duds.” Robyn laughed too. “At least back home you won’t have to see Christina any more.”
“Thank fuck for that. I am looking forward to getting back into my routine at home. Back in my office and chair.”
“So, what movie are you going to watch for your last night in Florida?”
“Do you know, I have been itching to watch Rocketman again.”
“Again?”
“It’s a beautiful movie and come on, it’s the music of Elton John.” Robyn moved in closer to the fridge to make some room as two men walked past her down through the aisle, pushing her basket in with her foot.
“Oh, and nothing to do with a certain leading male, yeah?”
“Shut up Claire.”
“Shut up Claire,” mimicked her friend.
“You know I went to see that movie because of Elton John and his music not because of the male lead and it also happened to be released on my birthday so it was my birthday treat.”
“Yeah alright, but how many movies of Taron’s did you watch after? Hmmm?”
“Ah here, Eddie the Eagle is cute and so endearing and it has Hugh Jackman in it and you know I love him and have done since his Oklahoma days and…”
“… and you also watched Robin Hood and Kingsman and…”
“And I have to go Claire!” Robyn grinned into the phone. “This junk will not buy itself and I need to find those damn turtles.”
“Ro come on!
“I will text you this evening Claire and I will see you on Sunday.”
“But Ro…”
“I love you, you tosspot!”
“Ugh hate you.”
“Bye Claire.”
“Have fun with your turtles and Taron!”
Robyn laughed as she ended the call, knowing there would be a text message within the next thirty seconds from her best friend from home, calling her out for hanging up on her. As much as she enjoyed the last six months of her life and the experiences it brought, good and bad, she could not wait to get back home to real green grass, rain and some cold weather, her crazy best friend and her own bed in her apartment. Florida had been enlightening and enjoyable but Ireland was home.
Finally finding the red packets of turtles near the cash registers, Robyn picked up five packets and threw them in her basket, before waiting in line to be checked out.
