John stared at his fellow Spartan. “Spartan Attack?”

Val lightly tossed the controller from one hand to the other. “It’ll be good for morale.”

“The video game,” John clarified.

“Right.” Val nodded once.

“And you need us because…?”

Val shrugged fractionally. “Four players a side.” 

“Go get Blue Team.”

Val gave a patronizing smile. “Can’t call a team that doesn’t exist.”

John rolled his eyes. “That is so old.”

“Kai and Riz and Vannak already said they’re in,” Val said. “So, we’re only missing one.”

“Perez can have my spot,” John said quickly. 

“Uh-uh-uh,” Cobalt’s leader clucked. “Spartans versus Spartans.” He eyed John. “You’re not telling me the Master Chief’s scared of a video game, are you?”

John stood up and snatched the controller out of his fellow Spartan’s hand. “Give me that,” he growled.

“Ah, there it is,” Val chuckled. He pointed a finger at John and started out of the room. “1900. And no Cortana; that’s cheating.”

“I liked you better with your pellet,” John called.

Val turned back with a smug grin. “I liked you better with my pellet, too.”
