do you guys know that youtube dating show called the button. because i was watching it with my friend the other day bc we were bored and we were like this seems funny and i somehow got a boat boys fic idea based off of it. so if i make a fic about the button dating show will people underdtand or is it too niche

part of the reason the last of us part 2 is sooo awful narratively is that it's a game asking you to look at the bigger picture, whilst holding your hand and dragging you down a path sooooo narrow your shoulders graze the wall.

like, the game says, examine the cycle of violence. look at what your violence did! consider the consequences of your actions! and at the end of the game Ellie decides to spare abby, but what about the literal hundreds of people she killed without a seconds thought on her path to killing abby. like this is an ULTIMATE flaw? you want me to care? you want me to care about ending the cycle of violence when the entire game you've given me countless ways of killing, and forced me to kill other characters regardless of whether I wanted to or not and NOW you want to spare the woman who killed my father but I couldn't spare literally anyone else?

the reason the first game was so good is because it touched on violence and it didn't act like it was Fucking Above it the way the story of part 2 wants you to. Ellie is shaken and sometimes appalled by Joels violence in the first game but this is survival, and we know Joel is not a good man, he is not enacting any cycle because this is his Life this has been his life for 20 years he is not Above being violent and he is not Sparing anyone for anything to try and Be better. part 2 just does not fucking get this and it is interwoven into the story. You CANNOT make a game with the idea of criticising a player for their violent choices without ALWAYS offering some alternative TO those violent choices and CONSEUQENCE. tlou follows a linear narrative there is ZERO deviation there are scripted character deaths that are unavoidable because the story has a singular ending so even if you stealth kill every single enemy you see which you likely won't because the game actively encourages violence (hey look at our cooler bombs! our better gun system! and maybe you could argue this is them Tempting You to see if you can Resist) You will still end up killing someone. the only time this works is in games with multiple endings.

like a perfect fucking example. dishonored. you do not have to kill Anyone. Not a Single character! and you're rewarded for this in the narrative! undertale/deltarune, you are punished for killing and the game remembers and you feel like shit for it! bioshock where you have to kill SOME scripted characters(this excludes the common enemy bc those guys r unavoidable) but not all (and in b2 I think you can spare them All?) and Like Ur weird n kinda gross if u kill the little sisters don't talk to me

like im sorry but going. violence is bad! now watch this random guys head explode. Ellie doesn't kill abby! but she did kill about 30 different guys w this bomb when all they were doing was guarding their territory from some insane girl with a gun. but right right no guilt til its abby huh. pathetic

I thought they're a group of found family friends who have a shared goal, but right, the Others aren't friends anymore in their universe 😭

"but upon closer inspection Joel realizes he doesn’t actually have to be afraid of him(self)" oh 🥺🥺 well at least he'll have that going for him, that he'll learn that he's allowed to feel how he feels, and that his relationships are easier and better when he allows himself to also share his feelings with others, even if he thinks his emotions or sharing them might be scary. But I'm guessing Other Joel and Joel will be the ones to communicate by writing on the mirrors then? Oh, I'm not sure if I should hope that no one else will stumble across their conversations like accidentally reading a text you weren't supposed to, or definitely hope that someone sees it and confronts Joel about it and it leads to a conversation. Then again, if someone else finds the notes/conversations and it's not Aleksi or Niko, but one of the others who haven't experienced meeting their Others - that could go either way, like "hey I noticed a thing, can we talk about it?" or "I think you should get your carbon monoxide levels checked because I think you might be hallucinating".

Ah... So Other Aleksi might actually be trying to protect Aleksi in his weird fucked up way without realising - or caring, more likely - that he's actually making Aleksi worse and harming his relationships with people he very much loves dearly. So maybe he actually means well, but he still refuses to listen to Aleksi telling him he loves his friends, as you do, and makes it all about himself and tries to force his opinions and way of dealing with being exhausted on Aleksi without caring at all what he thinks or that he likes being there for his friends. Maybe a well-meaning bitch, but a selfish and ignorant and forceful Bitch all the same who in the end only cares about himself and refuses to see other people's point of view and opinions.

Ah yes, self-isolating my beloved and detested. So maybe Niko is actually having fun with his Other, but that can make it worse? If he's spending more and more time with him, because he tempts him and tells him they can just hang out and chill with no pressure or anything, which of course is nice, but if it leads to Niko withdrawing more from his friends to hang out with his Other - of course that will eventually put a strain on his relationships with them, especially if he shows up at the studio or wherever all chipper and acting unusual but just saying he slept in when the others clearly can tell he's lying and hiding something from them.

Oh? How does Other Joonas sends texts if he doesn't have a physical form? 👀 But god, the things that lurk on the edge of our vision are the WORST. How are you supposed to deal with it if you can't put your finger on it, if you can't point at it and say "THIS is what's wrong and it's bothering me so now that I can see and identify it, I can figure out how to fight it"?

I wonder what Other Joonas wants, then. Just to fuck around and scare and confuse Joonas for his own entertainment? I don't see any way that sending him ominous texts and stalking him (if we're going off on what we see in the mv) could be beneficial in any way at all. Other Aleksi + Niko could say they want to "warn/protect" Aleksi and "offer easy comfort" to Niko, but Other Joonas? Seems like he's just out to bother Joonas and see the world burn. And Other Tommi? I wonder how he will show himself at all. Other Olli can go around appearing on walls and whatnot, moving weirdly, clearly being visible to everyone looking at him, but Other Tommi? A missing shadow or a missing reflection while you pass by stores with glass fronts while shopping is probably something you unconsciously notice but can't put your finger on it, but you can tell that something is Off, but it probably takes some time for you to suddenly notice then, unless you're specifically looking out for it or for some reason consciously look at your or your friends' shadows or reflections. And it's probably easier to be passed off as "something out of the corner of my eye" or "oh i'm tired, I should take a nap" or "the sun must be reflecting weirdly here". Then again, having a shadow where it should not be or not having a shadow at all is, when someone does notice, also pretty much impossible to hide from the others. Like Aleksi and Joel can say they were drunk or sick to pass off their Other's shit behavior, Niko and Joonas' Others don't seem to care to show themselves to the others (yet?), but you can't exactly pass of an extra or missing shadow as.. anything, really.

These are all very accurate actually! Fun fact: the writing on glass thing is actually very likely to happen eventually, but it won't be a creepy moment—this time for real! It'll actually be a very important character development scene. A Character Developmoment, if you will!

Fun fact 2: I marvel at how many people seem to be scared of supernatural stuff like this happening in their homes. Personally, my biggest fear when I'm home alone in the dark is that (possibly armed) burglars might get in, because I know I wouldn't be able to do anything except hide in my room and hope they don't kill me when I discover me.

…Honestly, can I just have the spooky fears instead?
