My art inspirations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
William Heath Robinson- He was an English Cartoonist that lived though 1872-1944. Not only do I enjoy his drawings because of the fun elements that he would bring into them with machines, but I really like his use of line. His use of a single width for his line work and other artists have directly affected my own works. I also really enjoy the flat colors that he uses in his works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
John James Audubon- He was a American- French artist and ornithologist ( study of birds) who lived from 1785-1851. He recorded and painted many species of birds that are native here in America. I love his art. The composition, the colors, the accuracy of the birds is to die for. Huge inspiration when it comes to drawing birds. Recommend studying his art if your interested in bird drawing!
(Also the last bird picture is of a Carolina Parakeet, which was the only parakeet native to the southwest of North America)
(unfortunately it went extinct around the 1900's, which is a shame as it looks like it was such a pretty bird)
He also drew some mammals from America (tbh though some of them look a bit..... odd). This guy looks hella cursed lol
(both bird and racoon pics were from my collection of books based on his art)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joe Weatherly- He is a California based artist that focuses on animal art. His artworks are very dynamic in nature and I love his use of color in his artworks. He also has done multiple books on drawing animals and of his own art (first picture is of his book Animal Essence). I highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning how to draw animals!
Here's a link his website for anyone interested https://www.joeweatherly.com/
(Images were taken from my own copy of his book Animal Essence)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Group of artworks from Pauline Cherrett's book "Chinese Brush Painting: A Beginner's Guide"
I have always been a fan of brushwork in artworks and have always been inspired by Chinese brush painting and Japanese woodblock art. I've always liked nature and landscapes and flowers which tend to be the main subjects of this type of art and honestly I just really enjoy them ( I mean look at the brushwork its amazing).
(all of these pictures come from my copy of the book)
So this was just a small list of some of the artworks and artist that inspire me and my art. Wanted to write this blog for myself as a sort of reference point and to show others different artists that they may not know of. I also have another blog like this one which I'll link if anyone is interested.
Honestly this was so much fun to write! I mainly write a ton for college and it can be a bit taxing but it's nice to write something for myself and on a topic I really enjoy!

Hi! My daughter REALLY likes your drawings (she LOVES pegs) and would like to learn how to draw them better, and was wondering if you might offer classes, or, maybe do step by steps. Thank you!
Hi there!
Aw, that's super sweet :)
I don't currently have any official media that counts as "instructional" other than my tips on drawing wings post. However, I do sometimes do art "drawover" notes for people in my Discord community -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As far as learning how to draw fantasy creatures, I can say what helped get me started -
Practice drawing the anatomy of real animals
Drawing animals from life at the zoo is a fantastic way to practice. Your daughter can also find areas like petting zoos at the fair, or ask a local riding stable if she can observe a lesson to draw horses in motion. I remember hanging out at the riding stables where I kept my horse and drawing for hours after riding. Once she feels comfortable with anatomy basics, she can start combining parts. That's essentially what my pegasi are - horses with bird parts and attributes patched on top like some sort of wild Garry's Mod creature.
And, most importantly...
Draw so so so much. Draw all of the time.
The best way to get comfortable with drawing animals to draw them for hours and hours and hours. Fill up hundreds of sketchbooks with loose, fast, messy, unpolished sketches of animals. Animals - specifically horses - are very hard to draw. They'll look wonky and not quite right at first but the more a person draws, the more solid the drawings will become.
Some of my favorite animal books and artists -
The Art of Animal Drawing by Ken Hultgren. This book has been my staple go-to book since highschool. I've worn through 3 copies.
Principles of Creature Design by Terryl Whitlatch
Science of Creature Design by Terryl Whitlatch. Whitlatch's work is very grounded in hard science, great for ultra-realistic species that could really physically function.
Dracopedia by William O'Connor. A very fun book on O'Connor's process of drawing and painting different dragons.
Animal Essence by Joe Weatherly. This is a great book about how to capture live animals in all sorts of mediums.
James Gurney - creator of Dinotopia. His work is realistic, yet still contains an element of "rule of cool".
Cory Loftis has lovely animal sketches in Art of Zootopia. His work is heavily stylized, but I love how he simplifies animal anatomy into easily recognizable shapes.
I hope this helps in lieu of step-by-steps!

NCIS is gearing up to ring in a special milestone with the April 15th episode as the franchise reaches 1,000 episodes overall. But how does it all break down? Below, we’re revealing how each of the current and former spinoffs contributed to the flagship’s upcoming installment.
Tumblr media
Eddy Chen/CBS
NCIS (464 EPISODES)
Airdates: September 23, 2003–present
The Brief: “What makes NCIS so damn special?” That question is furiously put to Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) by his estranged son, Jared (Spence D. Moore II), in the NCIS franchise’s 1,000th episode. Launched in 2003, NCIS has four spinoffs and two highly anticipated shows coming — NCIS: Origins and a Michael Weatherly–Cote de Pablo project nicknamed NCIS: Europe.
The younger Vance makes his query when the two cross paths at his mom’s gravesite. Vance’s wife was killed by terrorists in 2013, and Jared can’t comprehend why his dad is so dedicated to a job that put their family in danger.
Make that puts: Vance is soon in peril and the team under attack by an enemy from the past. “We’ve heard this baddie’s name before,” exec producer Steven D. Binder told us at a celebration on the set. “As in some of our better episodes, our people risk their lives for each other. We pay homage to the O.G. NCIS and the other series.”
Guest star alert: Assisting via satellite feed are Los Angeles agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and Hawai‘i boss Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey). The cavalry also includes a longtime NCIS ally, former FBI agent Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano).
In a scene we observed, forensic scientist Kasie (Diona Reasonover) reviews evidence with Torres (Wilmer Valderrama). Jared, desperate to help, has slept there overnight. “Kasie connects with Jared and becomes a mentor in a way,” Reasonover says.
Valderrama hints it all gets explosive, promising “a big, big set piece; all of us are involved.” And one agent does something new: “We see McGee in a position you’ve never seen him in in 20 years,” spills Sean Murray. Says Gary Cole, who plays team leader Alden Parker, “We witness some fragility of what this job entails, the obstacles that could pop up unexpectedly.”
Tumblr media
Skip Bolen/CBS
NCIS: New Orleans (155 EPISODES)
Airdates: September 23, 2014–May 23, 2021
The Brief: The Big Easy’s brassy, buoyant spirit infused the franchise’s third title, shot memorably on location. In fact, lead Scott Bakula once told TV Guide Magazine about a great only-in-NOLA moment: “being in the middle of the Mississippi River, captaining a tugboat!” His honest boss Dwayne Pride was based on a real New Orleans lawman, retired naval investigator D’Wayne Swear, who served as a consultant.
Tumblr media
Daniel Asher Smith/Paramount+
NCIS: Sydney (8 EPISODES)
Airdates: November 10, 2023–present
The Brief: “In Australia, everything can kill you,” executive producer Morgan O’Neill cracked to TV Guide Magazine when the Oz-set new kid on the block arrived last year. Down Under has proved plenty perilous for tough NCIS Special Agent Captain Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) and her savvy partner-in-crime-fighting, Australian Federal Police Sergeant JD Dempsey (Todd Lasance). After locking horns, the American and the Aussie warmed to each other. But all may be undone thanks to JD going rogue in the finale — crikey! Good news for fans left in suspense: Sydney was just renewed!
Tumblr media
Karen Neal/CBS
NCIS: Hawai‘i  (50 EPISODES)
Airdates: September 20, 2021–present
The Brief: NCIS said aloha to the franchise’s third offshoot and first female special agent in charge, hardworking divorced mom Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), in 2021. “I feel like I’m in a movie: Platoon meets Jurassic Park,” Lachey told TV Guide Magazine at the time. Before shooting on lush Oahu began, production held a traditional Hawaiian blessing. The island culture has defined the series, with unique cases involving paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) and Pearl Harbor survivors. Tennant’s team, a blend of mainland transplants and locals like surfer Kai Holman (Alex Tarrant), has welcomed other NCIS franchise agents for joint ops. And now L.A.’s Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) is on the island!
Tumblr media
Ron P. Jaffe/CBS
NCIS: Los Angeles (323 EPISODES)
Airdates:September 22, 2009–May 21, 2023
The Brief: For a thrilling 14 seasons, the first spinoff’s Office of Special Projects hit the sunny streets of L.A. to chase down a rap sheet of baddies from Russian mobsters to psychotic serial killers — even an office mole. Under the management of no-nonsense Henrietta “Hetty” Lange (Linda Hunt), ex–Navy SEAL Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and loner Grisha “G” Callen (Chris O’Donnell) were special agents with banter as quick as their draw. But both had endured pain: for Sam, a wife murdered by a terrorist; for G, a rocky childhood in foster care and a brutal secret program to train kids in spycraft.
Fans rooted for romance between team members Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), whose entertaining undercover missions included posing as cult members and suburban marrieds. The cast was equally tight. O’Donnell says, “The first day on set, the original NCIS cast came in. They were like a family. I remember looking at Dani and LL thinking, ‘Are we ever going to get as close?’ Sure enough, we did.”

For the most part, I totally understand the points behind this post. They make a lot of sense. But I'm just going to counter a few that stood out.
First, with the actors' strike not ending until early November, NCIS didn't get started production again until nearly the end of that month. Which means this episode likely didn't get started until early December. Now, I'm not one to tell people how or how long to grieve, but that means episode 2 didn't get filmed until nearly 2 and a half months after David died. Would the emotions still be fresh? Of course. Just as I'm sure they were when they filmed what they did.
It would not have cost CBS $80m to get Mark Harmon, Cote de Pablo, Joe Spano, Pancho Demmings, Susanna Thompson or the handful of other bit character actors to come back. Not even close. Between Mark leaving ($525k/ep) and Gary Cole coming on ($100k/ep), I think CBS has saved enough in nearly 2 years to splash out for someone other than Michael Weatherly. Was there perhaps a scheduling conflict with some of them? Sure.
Which leads me to the elephant in the room, which is the 'scheduling conflict' of Mark Harmon. If information is correct, he's narrating 'NCIS: Origins'. Yes, he's also an executive producer, but he's also an executive producer of NCIS. He's not running the whole ship. Within the context of the characters, the canon and the actors, there was no reason to not work something out to get Gibbs in the episode. It would be like Mulder dying and only one of the Lone Gunmen shows up to console Skinner. We would be asking why in the world they didn't get Gillian Anderson to show up, by any means necessary. And we could get all the excuses in the world, but we'd still be asking. As I've said in other posts, they brought back one character. One. And with all due respect to MW, it was the wrong one. If nothing else, it only shone a brighter light on how few the show brought back, because at least with Gibbs, it's just Gibbs. With Tony, we've got Ziva. Where was she?
Future episodes are all well and good and this show might surprise me and do Ducky's memory justice. The same way they've done all the other characters who have died justi- um, let's just move on to the next point. But there will never be a 2nd chance to do what they've already done, which was have an episode dedicated to the passing of a great man (both character and actor), without it feeling like they're milking the death for views. They had their chance with this one, to collectively bring the emotions, the actors and the tribute together, and let's be honest, they... I'm not going to say 'failed', because the episode served its purpose, but they certainly fell short.
Both @justagibbsgirl and @i-run-with-scissors39 made a really good point about the Gibbs absence in the Ducky tribute episode- if we'd had a funeral scene, we would've gotten a much deeper emotional impact from a eulogy, the camera could've panned the gathered guests to show a myriad of former characters we've missed over the years, AND, they could've shown Gibbs in the back, unseen by the guests, paying silent tribute to Ducky. Brian Dietzen said Mark Harmon didn't come back because of 'scheduling conflicts', but as @i-run-with-scissors39 said, they could've filmed it separately at any time, because it would've just been him.
But none of this happened. In fact, what really happened in that episode that was memorable? Besides Tony showing up. (I'll get back to that in a minute.) McGee had 1 flashback, Vance had 1 flashback and Jimmy had 4. Jimmy also had the most screen time and was given the most emotional scenes. A lot of that is understandable- he was the only one left with the strongest connection to Ducky. But there were other people with connections to him, too. And we didn't get to see that. The only person outside of the regular cast of season 21 to show up was Tony. I mean, think about that, just for a second. No character outside of the current squad showed up. Not even Tobias! Instead, they handwaved the work/money (?) involved to make something more meaningful happen by showing flowers and Polaroids.
Even the Crime of the Day fell flat. So some girl we've never met is getting hassled by her college because her dead dad's getting slandered in the press by a senator. A senator who, I guess didn't get arrested at the end? Just stepped down from his position? Why did the senator pick that Marine anyway? (I know he served with him, but what was the point in naming that particular Marine?) And if I see one more reference to someone gifting someone a scholarship fund, I don't know if I'll be able to unroll my eyes. And yes, I know the MCSF was a big thing for David McCallum, so it made sense in this context, but the fact there's a Leroy Jethro Gibbs Scholarship Fund joke almost undermined the whole thing. (Would've been nice if they'd had a link at the end of the episode to the MCSF.)
Instead of this random girl and her dead dad, how about a cold case Ducky was working on? Maybe Jimmy sees it on Ducky's desk (or finds it in the secret spot behind a picture /eyeroll) and decides he's going to solve it. The team wants to help but are sceptical it can be done, but Jimmy's absolutely determined to do it, to the point of almost obsession. It would be his way of putting off dealing with Ducky's death while also making one last connection with him. They end up solving it because one of the flashbacks gives an indirect clue. You know, like Ducky's cryptic message to the team about where to find the nothing file behind the photo in his office. /eyeroll again
I loved the fact that Jimmy never took off his lab coat, even though he didn't do any lab work the entire episode. Him walking around the bullpen in his lab coat solving a case was just... well, I guess that's where the show is now, yeah? Sean Murray didn't want to step forward as the face of the show, so Brian Dietzen did. And you know what? Good for him. It's a hell of an arc over 20 years for him. But whether he meant to or not, he ended up making this episode about him. Every emotional thread went through Jimmy; every emotional moment was Jimmy's. When Diona Reasonover's voice cracked in the bullpen ("Any suggestions as to how to do that?"), it felt like the only real moment given to anyone other than Jimmy. Probably because 3 of the team didn't really know Ducky, so they could only experience the loss through other characters. It's why we got Knight reading Ducky's journal to bring up a Gibbs flashback, and it's why Torres did the same with McGee. It's why Parker was in charge of the flowers or something. And I try to remember they're new when I hear Knight say, "Dying quietly in your sleep isn't the worst way to go." JFC, lady.
I dunno. Kate was on for 2 years and I felt the show handled her death with so much more emotion. Her loss rippled through the team and we felt it because we saw the characters feel it. The Ducky episode was a lot of telling rather than showing, and what showing they did was through Jimmy instead of a handful of the hundreds of people whose lives Ducky touched in 20 years.
Oh, and Tony. Great to see one of the Originals, and Tony, in small doses, can bring the depth the scene needs. But being tacked onto the end of the episode made it fell exactly what it was- a surprise cameo to wow the fans rather than a true nod of respect to Ducky/David.
It should've been more. It could've been more.

List of animal art books that I enjoy and recommend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Weatherly Guide to drawing Animals: Book written by Californian based artist Joe Weatherly. Of all the books I have on this subject I always go back to his books when I'm stuck on anatomy or to use as a reference point. His art is extremely well done and taught very well.
The Weatherly Guide to drawing Cats: Same concept as his previous book but is mainly focused on different cat species and how to draw and examine them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also own his art books and they are fantastic resources to have as well as me just enjoying his art and wanting to view and examine it. Totally recommend checking him out!
Tumblr media
Morpho Anatomy book for Artists: Mammals edition written by Michel Lauricella: This small book is super nice to take with me on the go as a small reference guide for anatomy of some various mammals. This one leans more on the scientific side and shows various bones and specific animal skeletal structures for the animals that are shown. Highly recommend!
Tumblr media
Alaskan Field Sketches by William D. Berry: I love this book. His observation of animals and their behaviors are wonderfully shown. It is such a great book for anyone to have as a reference point and I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who takes in interest in animals and animal art. I also really enjoy his Guides to Drawing book as well.
In addition to art teaching books I also own a ton of animal photography books to study from as well as animal art books that have been created by artists featuring their own works. I recommend people to check their libraries first to see if they have anything that can help with your art works or to just enjoy. Anyway hope this helps anyone and show you some resources that you may not have seen before!

Why Aren’t Tony and Ziva Heading Back to CBS?
Question: I was excited to learn about a spinoff of NCIS featuring the returns of Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) but was sorry to hear that the show will air not on CBS but on the Paramount+ streaming platform. Why are they doing this? Fans who don’t stream will be so disappointed. — Jeannie
Matt Roush: This is how CBS President and CEO George Cheeks explained it to Vulture’s “Buffering” columnist Joe Adalian in a must-read interview: “We also announced NCIS: Origins, which is going to be on CBS. The Weatherly project really felt more like a serialized streaming show, and also was an example of us trying to expand the aperture of NCIS, which is what we did with Criminal Minds on Paramount+ (with Evolution). The whole goal here is to look at each potential creative execution and figure out where we think it ultimately should land. We had two really fantastic NCIS franchise extension ideas. One felt really right for broadcast, and one felt like a serialized streaming 10-or-13-episode idea.” Cheeks also pointed out that NCIS: Sydney had originally been developed as a streaming exclusive and only aired on CBS when the strikes left holes on the fall schedule.
Viewers who either can’t (for economic reasons) or won’t embrace streaming are always going to be disappointed when something they want to see goes behind a paywall, but even given the growing pains of many of these platforms, this is where these companies see the future (if not the present) of the industry. So this is hardly going to be an isolated situation.
