i am a mandy stan, as you can tell by my url, like she’s literally my second fav character, but why are some people so obsessed with being like “karen deserved to get hit!!”. she literally just teased mandy over lip… like… she’s a seventeen year old girl who was being, like most teenage girls, fucking mean to another teenage girl! i understand why mandy did what she did and how far she was pushed, but honestly lip was pushing mandy more than karen was, and it’s actually amazing to me how y’all are so quick to be like “yeah karen deserved permanent brain damage and for her life to be over at the age of seventeen” BECAUSE SHE LITERALLY SLEPT WITH MANDY’S MID ASS BOYFRIEND AND THEN TEASED HER ABOUT IT OVER THE PHONE. JEEEESUS. also, karen ended up being raped in the hospital while comatose, and is now most likely still in arizona, wheelchair bound, brain damaged, and living with her rapist. all over sex in a school bathroom stall and a phone call. and y’all are happy with that
#again i love mandy#i’m just saying#it’s strange#same with people who cheer mickey on for breaking ian’s leg because he wouldn’t sign the marriage license and tried to communicate#like yeah i felt bad for him and i understood why he did it but STILL#it’s concerning honestly#shameless#mandy milkovich#karen jackson#lip gallagher#jody silverman#kandy#3x09

US authors George RR Martin and John Grisham are suing ChatGPT-owner OpenAI over claims their copyright was infringed to train the system.
Martin is known for his fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into HBO show Game of Thrones.
ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs) "learn" by analysing a massive amount of data often sourced online.
The lawsuit claims the authors' books were used without their permission to make ChatGPT smarter.
OpenAI said it respected the rights of authors, and believed "they should benefit from AI technology".
Other prominent authors named in the complaint include Jonathan Franzen, Jodi Picoult and George Saunders.
The case has been brought to the federal court in Manhattan, New York, by the Authors Guild, a trade group in the US working on behalf of the named authors.
According to the filing, it accused OpenAI of engaging in "systematic theft on a mass scale".
It follows similar legal action brought by comedian Sarah Silverman in July, as well as an open letter signed by authors Margaret Atwood and Philip Pullman that same month calling for AI companies to compensate them for using their work.
A spokesperson for OpenAI said: "We're having productive conversations with many creators around the world, including the Authors Guild, and have been working co-operatively to understand and discuss their concerns about AI.
"We're optimistic we will continue to find mutually beneficial ways to work together."
AI 'displacing humans'
The case argues that the LLM was fed data from copyrighted books without the permission of the authors, in part because it was able to provide accurate summaries of them.
The lawsuit also pointed to a broader concern in the media industry - that this kind of technology is "displacing human-authored" content.
Patrick Goold, reader in law at City University, told BBC News that while he could sympathise with the authors behind the lawsuit, he believed it was unlikely it would succeed, saying they would initially need to prove ChatGPT had copied and duplicated their work.
"They're actually not really worried about copyright, what they're worried about is that AI is a job killer," he said, likening the concerns to those screenwriters are currently protesting against in Hollywood.
"When we're talking about AI automation and replacing human labour... it's just not something that copyright should fix.
"What we need to be doing is going to Parliament and Congress and talking about how AI is going to displace the creative arts and what we need to do about that in the future."
The case is the latest in a long line of complaints brought against developers of so-called generative AI - that is, artificial intelligence that can create media based on text prompts - over this concern.
It comes after digital artists sued text-to-image generators Stability AI and Midjourney in January, claiming they only function by being trained on copyrighted artwork.
And OpenAI is also facing a lawsuit, alongside Microsoft and programming site GitHub, from a group of computing experts who argue their code was used without their permission to train an AI called Copilot.
None of these lawsuits has yet been resolved.

So before I fall asleep and forget panels
Mandip really has loved every minute, talks about how good a "number one" is - Jodie leading the cast in a totally supportive way so everyone had lunch in her trailer just as a matter of course as they talked things out and she looked out for them; she's "the boss" to Bradley Walsh and even he was impressed by how she does that BTS job of kind of being the captain and anchoring/guiding them (Colin Spaul who did classic Who and new mentions there really isn't much time for rehearsal now, unlike the old days, so not a lot of time to plan and experiment)
S11-12 Jodie was 1, Brad 2, Tosin 3, she was 4, and she probably should've been 3 with John Bishop's experience but Jodie said absolutely not; also in scenes without the Doctor Mandip was half jokingly being 1 but had actually learned a lot from Jodie about leading a cast, a lot of bts stuff she'll take with her [parallelling Yaz!] obviously admires her as well as being really good friends
it's Mandip's first con in the states so of course she's getting really competitive trying to beat Barrowman's ribbon collection
she doesn't think of it as work (she said this at the smaller meet & greet) she really does love acting!
Mandip was a little disappointed they had to stay in wales ("I love Wales!" she hastened to add) for s13 after going to S Africa and Tenerife and Bulgaria, but she liked the continuity, getting to work with actors for several stories like past work
Her favorite stunt so far, although they're tiring, was the crane, just because she'd been doing "telly in the kitchen" right before that, and that scene told her right away this was Big (although she didn't like the heights)
upside down isn't as fun as she thought it would be; headache!
She didn't know that yaz was going to fall for the Doctor until she read those lines on the page — she and Jodie were both like "hm, yeah, we can work with this!" —although it was a natural progression. Until then had been playing it that Yaz admired and loved the Doctor in one way or another, but it totally made sense (she talked about falling in love after becoming good friends with someone, and about how Yaz's flashes of anger with the Doctor are because it hurts more when someone you love hurts you; you don't care so much "if it's a bus driver being rude")
Yes, she had her "Thasmin is canon" ribbon; it was the first thing she mentioned, to much applause. Given her by interviewer Riley Silverman
She talked about representation, understanding it as an Asian actor and why it matters to see characters like you on the media you watch.
And it was just a relaxed and comfortable interview. Riley mentioned at lobbycon that Mandip appreciated Riley had really listened to what she said, more than most interviewers do, which Riley noted as sad. [That's the trouble with prepared questions. Riley is a standup comic, so she's better at improv.]
I feel like I should have more for Sacha but his interview was before Mandips and the interviewer's questions weren't as good.
He has tremendous respect for and spent a lot of time with Waris Hussein. (Who said he did a good job, except while watching rehearsal "I was more posh."
Sacha joking about his not-posh Mancunian (Manchester) accent: he's the first Master not to call himself Maaaahst-ah with that initial posh a-sound. He's from a small village in Manchester, misses it.
Talked a lot about variable modes of his Master, that rather than wearing latex masks he rips off, he likes to settle into other roles, other lives, almost as if he's trying to escape being himself — he's the "Master of disguise" and keeps acting in new ways so you're never quite sure which is the real him.
Got down into his mind a little bit, being resentful of not being appreciated, old friends/enemies with the Doctor, etc etc etc.
Suggested a wild idea— with canon changing/refreshing in weird ways — he could be the next Doctor (I almost think he meant his Master; he's still learning the lore. But he was joking around.)
Asked if he had a controversial take on the Master, what he would have his Master say, he kind of curled around the mike and did a tortured "I love you, Doctor" which would have caused several shippers' heads to explode. I'm not sure he is aware of the shipping, although I suspect by the end of this weekend, he'll be informed.
He and the interviewer had mentioned therapy at some point, so they concluded that perhaps s14 should include the Doctor and the Master in couples therapy.

basic information.
full name: grace edna jackson. nickname/s: gracie. alias: none. name meaning: the name grace is of latin origin, meaning "goodness" and "generosity." in greek mythology, grace refers to the three charites or graces – goddesses of charm, beauty, and creativity. grace is connected to the religious concept of divine grace – the love and mercy freely given by god. date of birth: 7 august, 1995 alongside her twin, karen. place of birth: chicago, illinois. gender: cisfemale. pronouns: she & her. sexual orientation: pansexual. occupation: surgical intern (in present timeline) education: highschool graduate, med school graduate. living arrangements: flat shares with two other interns or still living in the jackson house with sheila. diet: vegan.
physical information.
face claim: laura slade wiggins, or sydney sweeney (alternative). hair: blonde. eye colour: blue with hints of green. height: five foot, two inches. tattoos: none. scars: small abdomen scar from having her appendix out as a child. piercings: ears. that were pierced by karen with a needle and an ice cube when they were both 13 years old. signature scent: lavender sleep spray, antibacterial handgel, apple shampoo, cherry yoghurt, that clinical smell that always lingers from the hospital.
familial information.
mother: sheila jackson (nee unknown). father: edward ‘eddie’ jackson, deceased. siblings: karen jackson, twin. extended family: hyram ‘hymie’ jackson, nephew via karen. frank gallagher, former step-father. the gallagher children, former step-siblings. jody silverman, former brother-in-law via karen. children: none. pets: three goldfish named after the powerpuff girls.
any other information.
grace is an original character built around the canon fact that karen jackson had a twin in utero. this was mentioned by sheila, who then advised karen absorbed said twin, but what if she didn’t? karen and grace were instead both born the very same day, with karen pushing her way out first. a slightly smaller grace followed close behind. it’s a pattern that becomes all too familiar and continues as they get older.
it wasn’t always easy being karen’s twin, but that wasn’t all her sister’s fault. grace just didn’t develop as confidently as karen. it’s a terrible cliche when she stops to think about it; one loud, the other quiet. one bold, the other nervous. the polar opposite of one another. grace would love to pretend there’s more substance to their childhood, but it really was just that simple. grace grew up hiding behind the larger than life character that was karen and usually? their peers forgot she was even there.
grace looked up to her twin sister. karen was the strong one of the pair. she could talk to boys without blushing cheeks and stuttering words. she took the brunt of their mother’s illness so that grace didn’t have to. made herself the subject of their father’s bitter mood swings, so he didn’t turned attention to grace. karen protected her just as much as she protected sheila and grace returns the favour as an adult, refusing to let others talk shit about her sister even if people perhaps have a reason. she looked up to her completely.

one of my favourite things about watching shameless is that i get to see zach mcgowan again and i'm not sure why all the characters seem to hate on him so much, jody just feels very sort of naive? idk maybe that's just me.
but also i guess it's the charles vane bonus, you know, this guy will kick off a revolution in the west indies!!!! don't treat him like this.
