October Reading Wrap Up
October was a great reading month and I got through ten(!) books in the month. That's more than I've read in a while, so it felt good to be able to know I can still read that many. I read some spooky/halloweenish books, as well as continued a few series, and finished a series.
1.Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters 2) by Juliet Marillier, 5/5 stars. I started the month with reading the second Sevenwaters book. Just like with book 1, I enjoyed this immensely, and I found the characters and storyline to be strong and engaging. This one is even more romance heavy than the first books. Adult historical fantasy
2.Paladin's Hope (Saint of Steel 3) by T. Kingfisher, 4.5/5 stars. Another good installment in this series and new mystery that our characters are faced with. This one was a bit shorter than the first two books, and I wish this was a little longer, but otherwise it was great as always! Adult fantasy romance
3.The Mother Tongue: English and How it Got That Way by Bill Bryson This was my nonfiction book for the month, and I read this on audio. Enjoyable, but I felt like it was a little dated. I've read other more recent books on linguistics, and enjoyed them more. Nonfiction.
4.Echo North by Joanna Ruth Mayer, 4/5 stars. This was an enjoyable YA fantasy, and a good blend of fairytales I really enjoy. I don't read a lot of YA anymore, but this reminded me of some of the 'older' YA that is really good. East of the Sun West of the Moon, batb, cupid & psyche retellings all blended together. The author also credits Robin McKinley, DWJ, and Edith Pattou as big inspirations, and I could tell. YA fantasy
5.Last Argument of Kings (First Law 3) by Joe Abercrombie, ?/5 stars. I honestly was so done reading this trilogy, and just wanted to know how it ended so I could just finish it. I skimmed most of it, and only read the Glokta chapters and the ending. This type of fantasy is 100% not for me. I only finished the series because my brother gifted me the boxed set (and he read them). Adult fantasy
6.I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacquline Harpman, 5/5 stars. This is a lesser known classic that's gotten some popularity recently. It's part dystopian, part science fiction, and reminded me a little of The Wall which I read earlier this year. Very poignant, dark, but an exploration of self and a woman on her own. This is translated from French!
7.A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher, 4/5 stars. Another good T Kingfisher fairy tale retelling (however this was quite loose on the retelling), but also dark, featuring child abuse and animal horror. But there is humor, and a good cast of adult characters trying to fix the situation, and I like how T Kingfisher writes competent adults.
8.Witch Week (Chrestomanci 3) by Diana Wynne Jones, 3/5 stars. I started this on audio, but finished with the physical book. Can't say I enjoyed this one as much as the first two. This just reminded me of how horrible middle school was! A good halloween time read though. Middle grade fantasy.
9.The Wolf in the Whale by Jordanna Max Brodsky, 4/5 stars. This is a historical fantasy that has been on my tbr since 2019. This is light on the fantasy elements, and about first contact between Inuit and Vikings in present-day Canada about 1000 years ago. Our main character is an Inuit shaman, and they and a viking have to team up to save the land and their peoples. Super detail rich and well written.
10. Graveyard Shift by ML Rio, 4/5 stars. A good read for Halloween, and excited to see that ML Rio is publishing again! A thriller about 5 people trying to discover who made a new grave in an abandoned graveyard. As someone who works in academia, I liked the academia element in this story, I only wish it was longer!
I'm on track to finish my Goodreads Reading Challenge this year, which is 80 books. Usually I get somewhere in the 90s, but not this year I guess. For Nov and December, I'm planning on finishing the Sevenwaters series, and Chrestomanci, so I'll be prioritizing those books.
November tbr:
The Scorpio Races (reread on audio)
Child of the Prophecy (Sevenwaters 3)
Heir to Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters 4)
Chrestomanci: The Magicians of Caprona (book 4)
Paladin's Fate (Saint of Steel 4)
Nonfiction
The Word for Woman is Wilderness
Cape Cod (on audio?)
The Virgin in the Garden

Yeah I like to see some quotes please. I can't really get my head round people believing in Mary's bona fides when the law didn't even exist in England. It's like Americans obsessing over a law only Canadians have. But I guess loyalty/sentiment/status quo was a big part of it.
Well, I don't think most noblewo/men were deeply well-versed in succession/inheritance laws of England and all their precedents, unless they'd happened to also study law...the assumption was probably that what was the law in most of Christendom was for England as well, understandably. But, then, that's not even a subject that seems to be well-understood in 21c historiography:
“[Henry VIII] now argued she would would be barred by illegitimacy. This contention puzzled continental contemporaries because elsewhere in western Europe those children born to couples who in good faith believed themselves validly married were treated as legitimate. Nevertheless, Henry was right. After a period of some uncertainty, by the late fourteenth century England had opted out of the bona fides principle. As Sir John Baker notes, 'succession problems were usually debated in legal terms and in accordance with the common law canons of inheritance.’ A successful challenge to his marriage would thus automatically bastardise Mary and leave Henry no direct heir… [although] Mary could have been legitimated by statute.” - JF Hadwin, Katherine of Aragon and the Veil, The Journal of Ecclesiastical History
... so that's, for the 16c, like I said, an understandable assumption. (Also, their source was probably Chapuys, who was familiar with both secular and church law, but espoused many misunderstandings of their precedents, too...so did Fisher, they're enumerated in another article by the same historian, titled Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Henry VIII, I will post those relevant quotes too, if they're of interest to you, asw).
Yeah, the bona fides element was... an interesting one, nevertheless...like, all the interrogations I mentioned, everyone says they've heard Mary was bona fides but won't really explain what it meant, they admit their ignorance on the subject, and won't name the source of where they've heard it (although, like I mentioned, they are willing to point fingers to deflect suspicion off themselves of their former friends in other regards), just assert that they all sort of mindlessly (lol) repeated what they'd heard, all, understandably, to maintain plausible deniability and get themselves out of the hot water they've landed themselves in.
For the Exeter conspiracy, I've posted one relevant in the past, I'll see what else I can scrounge up from my notes of excerpts.
It was, but I don't think courtier opportunism should be underestimated. Just one example, but I always remember that the Marquis of Exeter was one of the delegation of nobles HVIII sent to pressure CoA to relinquish her rights as Queen, tell Charles V to stop interfering in the matter, and one of the conspirators named by Chapuys in the Boleyn downfall. Granted, his wife had been one of Mary's supporters from very early on, so I think that element is there.
Elitism is probably an overestimated element, like while it's true the Boleyns were not born of royalty (neither were the Seymours, tho, so like...); I think what was going on beneath the surface was more intricate. Take Nicholas Carew, for example: originally, he'd been of the Boleyn faction, understandably, since they were cousins (he also, initially at least, seemed to favour a French alliance, so there's that). But I think what began as , well, the King needs a son, and if he's going to marry another wife, it might as well be a woman of my family as anyone else, to my benefit as much as anyone else...well, I think the shine came off this as matters unfolded. The thrust of their expectations were probably that AB was going to have as much, or less, influence as her predecessor with Henry, and her influence and power quickly outstripped those expectations. As the Boleyns gained power, wealth, and influence, and as men like Carew felt their own influence ebb in favour of say, George Boleyn (and I use him as an example, because by early 1536, it's evident many noblemen hated George, Lancelot de Carles' report of those events really crystallizes this)...well, resentment only grew, and their desire for the return of the status quo was thus kindled.
#anon#i can do some quotes about george from joanna della neva's translation too if you'd like. again; just about finding time.#anyway don't mistake this for anglocentric superiority...hviii was wrong too lol#it seems like his assertion that margaret douglas would be illegitimated by the annulment of her parents' marriage#was a misapplication / presumption of english law applying to scottish laws of inheritance#and that this was the argument for his justification of anger over his sister's divorce...erroneously#or maybe he meant the 'risk' that the pope wouldn't annul it and then what. idk#granted he also asserted she was illegitimate himself at a later date. altho that might've just been bcus the pope said she wasn't#and he was obviously contrary and big on believing his own understanding of canon law as superior to popes' by that point . saurr...#and also; the argument many make: had AB ever had a son#there would likely be a huge return of those like carew to her faction/party#altho. since anne tended to hold a grudge. more like a tide of attempts to do so ...#and i say that's not a subject that seems well understood bcus. well.can't tell you how many tudor biographies#essentially repeat the same narrative: mary was bona fides and henry was stupid for not just ~accepting~ this and treating her as such#and/or he did it out of spite and the counterfactual he would've let mary remain a princess had anne had a son instead in 1533 or if she'd#accepted her stepmother as queen....#so. the above article was quite illuminating. as it was by a historian who specializes in the subject#and most don't.

Giving up on MED so I don’t have myself and picking up where I left off with SSH. It’s crazy that this game probably at least somewhat impacted what I ended up going to grad school for and the field I almost ended up working in! It’s so good!

3 for you, 12 for kai, 28 for joanna
Thank you for the ask, my friend!
3: What are your favorite tropes?
That's a bit hard. I like a lot of whump tropes. I like stories with the slow revealing of what a whumpee went through, I love hair pulling, can't get enough of betrayal (especially when the villain is disturbed by it as well) and I love whumper turned whumpee. There's something so sweet about the whumper becoming intimately familiar with what they put Whumpee through and regretting it. There are certainly more that I love, though I cannot think of all of them right now.
12: What is your least favorite punishment?
Kai wrinkled his nose. "Wasn't really punishment, was it? I guess I was punished sometimes for struggling too much, but I stopped that pretty quickly and the deaths never got any more merciful.
"Still, I think the worst time was..... well, guess you could say I was drawn and quartered in my second month there. That's where most of the blood in the office came from. Leshy was having a particularly bad day, I think. He wouldn't stop laughing. I think.... before I died I remember seeing him waving at me with my own arm."
28: Have you ever gone too far? If so, what did you do when that happened?
Joanna stares at you, a reporter without a face, it seemed, a cruel smile on your lips. She looked down at the cuffs around her wrists and her prisoner's outfit. "I guess I have," she murmured. "And I.... doubled down, I suppose. I've never been good at taking a step back and.... well, you see where that's gotten me.
#ask game#whump#whump ask#temporary character death mention#dismembered limb#Joanna unfortunately doesn't stay in prison for as long as she should#vampires are still getting all of their rights in the laws#and people still treat the fact that vampires can't die very lightly#perhaps there will be a time when she runs into esial in the future#also#shout out to Kai for really being a champ in the face of all that happened to him#also also#how dare you make me decide what are my favorite tropes#lol#thanks for the ask!

dear americans,
as a polish queer woman and human rights activist, i know exactly how you're feeling right now and what to expect from these elections. i lived through the 2015-2023 regime of pis, a right-wing populist party that divided families in the same way trump did. i’ve experienced the rise of fascism in poland, the influence of far-right parties like konfederacja, and their “santa’s little helpers”—ordo iuris, an ultra-conservative catholic organization (banned in many countries, mind you) that helped enforce a near-total abortion ban and runs anti-queer campaigns in public spaces. i supported the black protests in 2016 as a middle schooler when they first tried to ban abortion. as an adult, i actively participated in the 2020 women’s strike, running from police tear gas daily after they finally passed the ban. i supported friends who faced charges.
i’ve lived through intense homophobia in poland as a queer teen and adult. i survived the first pride march in my hometown, where far-right extremists threw stones and glass at us. i endured the anti-queer propaganda spread by the ruling party in state-owned media. i survived the “rainbow night,” poland’s own stonewall moment in summer 2020, when police arrested around 50 queer activists following the arrest of margo, a nonbinary activist. i survived the "lgbt-free zones," the targeted violence, the slurs from strangers on the street, and the protests i held against queerphobia. it was hard as fuck, but i survived.
but just because i survived, it doesn’t mean others did. many women died because of the abortion ban—marta, justyna, izabela, dorota, joanna, maria, and many others who didn’t survive pis’s draconian anti-abortion laws. milo, kacper, michał, zuzia (she was 12), wiktor, and other queer and trans kids and young adults took their own lives because of the relentless queerphobia.
despite all of this, our experience in poland can serve as a guide now. here are some tips for staying safe and how we, polish queers and women, organized under the regime:
safety first, always. if you know someone who’s had an abortion, no you don’t. if you know someone is trans, no you don’t. if you know people who help with safe abortions, no you don’t—at least not until you know it’s 100% safe to share. if you are queer or have had an abortion, only share this with people you trust fully. most importantly, not everyone has to be an activist just because they’re part of a minority. if it feels unsafe to share that you're queer, trans, etc., then don’t. it doesn’t make you any less queer.
use secure, encrypted messaging like signal for conversations on potentially risky topics, such as queerness, abortion, organizing counter-actions, protests—anything that might be used against you.
stay anonymous online. if you want to research or report something without surveillance, do not use regular internet. get a vpn (mullvad is affordable and reliable), download the tor browser (for both onion and standard links), and if you plan to whistleblow, consider using a riseup email account.
organize and build networks. community is everything now. support each other, foster independence, because your government won’t have your back. set up collectives, grassroots movements. create lists of trusted professionals—lawyers, doctors, etc.—who can offer support.
to lawyers and doctors: please consider pro-bono work. this is what got us through poland’s hardest times. your work will be needed now more than ever.
for protests or risky actions: always write a pro-bono lawyer’s number on your arm with a permanent marker.
get to know the anarchist black cross federation and other resources on safety culture: "Starting an anarchist black cross group: A guide"; Still We Rise - A resource pack for transgender and non-gender conforming people in prison; Safe OUTside the system by the Audre Lorde Project;
for safe abortion info or involvement: get familiar with womenhelpwomen.
stay radical, stay strong, stay informed: The Anarchist Library
if i forgot to (or didn't) include something, don't hesitate to reblog this post with other resources.
#kinda heartbroken i've gotta post something like this#but now my experience is needed more than ever and i AM going to share it#we are going to get through this#together#activism#anarchism#grassroots#anarchist#resources#useful#helpful#human rights#abortion#abortion rights#reproductive rights#queer#trans#transgender#lgbtq#us politics#usa#us elections#america#donald trump#kamala harris#stay safe#moira speaks

oh hey look this book is on sale for 99 cents right now:
Every Time The Duke of Lockwood Was Objectified and/or People Were Generally Horny For Him In Fifth Avenue Rebels Books Where He Was Not The Hero
1. Staring with The Heiress Hunt. Listen, when a man who's NOT the hero is introduced like this.... you know he's a sure thing.
2. Harrison just wants to see the duke sweat okay. As do we all.
3. Moving on to The Lady Gets Lucky. There was this weirdly funny period in the book where EVERYONE was waiting for Harrison to steal Maddie from Lockwood, and even before it happened, people were trying to matchmake Alice with (the soon-to-be-cucked) Lockwood
4. When a man's primary asset is his shoulders and not his title, that's really telling imo
5. Two for the price of one. Lockwood is just really good in inspiring feelings in other men
6. Guhhhh
7. Remember ladies, the best historical romance heroes are inevitably compared to big cats... or maybe the odd wolf. And once again *shoulders*.
8. I appreciate the objectification by some rando houseguest
9. The way this man is so good at inspiring "hatred" in Kit
10. So true bestie
11. THE TENSION?? The SNARLING?? The ROLLING SHOULDERS LIKE A BARE-KNUCKLED FIGHTER (which is also deffo foreshadowing)???
12. Moving onto The Bride Goes Rogue..... that he is, Katherine
13. @mermaidsirennikita brought me around to this one being deeply objectifying because the insinuation is, he's so horny that he can't even bring himself to dress up or disguise his identity to show up for this costume orgy.
14. The way Kit is married now but still pissed with Lockwood.... and Preston's eye is twitching. A+
15. *sighs dreamily in debutante
16. Once more, the physical reaction this man inspires in other men... also, you have to laugh every time someone calls him boring.
And that's pretty much it! Join me next time while I troll through Wikipedia to figure out exactly *which* cabinet minister's wife Lockwood was sleeping with.
#the duke gets even is on sale!#for anyone who wants to vent their frustrations by reading about a rich white woman jailed for handing out contraception#and watch her own teddy “i'm just upholding the law like a LOSER” roosevelt#and read about a british duke totally fail to exercise his complete lack of influence#also like a loser#Joanna shupe

Honestly you guys should just look up a random historical figure and read about their lives and their children’s lives. So much drama
#joan/Joanna of acres was forced to marry some dude she didn’t like#then he died (yay!)#and she fell in love with some lowly peasant boy#begged her father to make him a knight (he did)#then they secretly married#her dad was pissed that she planned to elope and arranged her marriage to a nobleman#but she told him she was already married#he was pissed and imprisoned him#she pleaded with her father and said it was fine if an earl married a peasant so it should be only right that she could marry#a “gallant youth” regardless of his status#and she was very obviously pregnant at the time so he decided to let him go#he made him the earl of Gloucester and the earl of hertford and he gained a little more favor with his father in law#they had four children who lived into adulthood

Snowball and Jealousy
Hello everyone!
As chosen in the survey, here is a Christmas story with Leah Williamson! I hope you like it:) I imagined it in the same world as Fire and Ice 1 and 2.
Also it's longer than I first thought.
Happy reading!
TW: Still none.
You started dating Leah a little over a year ago, a few weeks before Christmas. Both felt it was too early to officially introduce yourself to your respective families, so you flew to Norway, your home country, to reunite with your family and spend the holidays with them. That didn’t stop you from thinking about Leah about every secondm and you had to refrain from harassing her with messages. You know very well how much the blonde cares about her family and how much she cherishes the moments spent with them.
This year, though, you’re going to spend Christmas with the Williamsons. You have already met Leah’s parents, brother and grandparents, but it’s true that you have not yet met everyone officially. I mean, that was before you walked into the huge house of one of her aunts, with almost all of the Williamsons. Hearing the noise, you instinctively take back a few steps, despite your hand tenderly entwined in Leah’s. She laughed at you and your sister-in-law patted you on the shoulder.
"Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it" she told you before Leah laid a kiss on your cheek.
"Let’s go find my grandmother" Leah says, and you agree.
It was a long way to get to her. You probably had time to greet everyone in the room before you got to her. You don’t have a large family on your side, your parents have made the choice to have three children because they themselves were only children. So you don’t have any cousins, while Leah has so many that you can’t remember all their names.
"Oh, my favorite, finally!" said the old woman, joyfully, holding out her arms in your direction.
You smile at her and willingly give her a hug letting go of Leah’s hand for the first time since you arrived.
"Well hello to you too Nan" says Leah sarcastically before kissing her grandmother.
You exchange a few words with her, which you appreciate very much. You miss your family when you are in England and she quickly took the role of the grandmother of heart. Which Leah seems to enjoy immensely, despite her teasing.
"Let’s go find our place" Leah said after a few minutes, when her aunt asked everyone to sit down.
You follow her closely and you have no trouble locating your seats, next to Jacob, Leah’s brother and his girlfriend. There you meet new cousins of Leah and you find yourself quickly to be part of their conversation. After the second entrance, you noticed that a girl around you and Leah’ age look in your direction very often. The first times your eyes crossed you thought it must be a coincidence, but with the passing of time you are not so sure.
"Who is it?" you discreetly ask Leah, leaning in her direction.
Leah’s gaze briefly flies in the direction you show her before she rolls with her eyes.
"Hailey, a cousin. We never got along, we only see each other at Christmas"
The answer makes you gently frown, you thought Leah loved every member of her family deeply. Seeing your look, Leah smiles at you and kisses your cheek, whispering that she will explain to you later. You nod again, putting your hand on her leg.
"Christmas games!" Leah’s uncle happily screams after everyone’s entries are over.
A big smile appears on Leah’s face, a smile you know well. The same as when someone offered a game of Fifa, the same one she has before a game of Uno. The one who announces that she will take the competition to heart and who amuses you a lot. Leah’s competitive spirit is known to everyone, as is her bad losing side. It amuses you a lot, especially when you have to cover her with hugs and kisses to cheer her up when she lose.
You smile a little less that said when the draw separates you from her. Luckily you find yourself with Jacob’s girlfriend, Joanna, as well as Hailey. You have unfortunately forgotten the names of other people, except James who is one of the children of his cousins.
"So you’re Leah’s new girlfriend?" Hailey says as you watch Leah’s team thrown into a game of Piccionnary.
"They’ve been together for a year and a half, I wouldn’t use the term new" laughs Joanna, sitting on the other side of you.
You nod and just smile, not taking your blonde out of your eyes. You smile as you see her little dance of joy and you find yourself letting your eyes slide over a particular part of her anatomy when she leans over to take a pen. Of course, this is the time she chooses to look back at you. Her amused smile and arched eyebrow make you understand that she perfectly understood what you were doing. You smile back and shrug, who can blame you for ogling your girlfriend?
"You’re from Norway, right?" asks Hailey
You turn your attention to her to answer her, also answering the questions she asks you about your native country. You could talk about it for hours. You’ve taken Leah twice already there and you can’t wait to leave for a whole week with her at least in January. You have to admit that you get a little lost in your conversation and you wonder why Leah and she don’t get along. She looks pretty nice. You don’t notice that says Leah’s upset look at you from a distance.
When the game is over, Leah quickly makes her way to you and puts her two hands on the armrests of your chair to lean over you.
"Come breathe some fresh air with me?"
"With pleasure" you smile
Leah doesn’t back down when you get up even if she gets up when you do. Your lips ghost hers, causing electric currents throughout your body. Your smile expands and you let her willingly put a kiss on your lips, before grabbing your hand to train you in the snowy garden. All of that, ignoring her cousin with perfection.
Children, dressed from head to toe, run and play, shouting joyfully. A soft smile appears on your face this time, the memories of your winters in Norway coming to mind. Since there are fewer people, you allow yourself to put your two arms around Leah’s waist and let yourself go against her. A year and a half has passed and you still find it frustrating not being able to touch her as much as you would like. But Leah is more of the kind to be discreet without being secret and you obviously respect her choices. On the other hand, you don’t see yourself going into an intense kissing session in public.
Leah puts her arms around you and puts several kisses on your face.
"Great victory" you do mischievously.
"As if it was going to happen otherwise" Leah replies with a goofy grin.
"I’m disappointed though, I won’t need to give you dozens of kisses to make you forget your defeat."
Leah laughs and you look up at her with a smile on her face. You love her laughter and being the reason of it.
"So, what’s the deal with Hailey?" you ask after a few minutes.
"Nothing special except she spent her teenage years flirting with my girlfriends or crushes and trying to steal them from me." sighs Leah, frowning. "It worked one time"
"Oh" you mumble while playing with her sweater. "She even tried with Jordan?"
"She never met Jordan. The first time she was in Australia and then Jordan was in her family. I didn’t really want them to meet, to be honest."
"Why?" you ask while frowning.
"I didn’t particularly want to see my girlfriend get picked up by my cousin."
The answer is logical, but your question involved something else. Leah has always been very honest with you about her relationship with Jordan. But you have to admit that to see that some people always seem to regret their relationship while you don’t hide yours… It’s painful. It obviously has nothing to do with a confidence you wouldn’t have in Leah, quite the contrary. You have complete and complete confidence in her. But your mind doesn’t wait à second to play with you. Are you less important on Leah’s life than Jordan was?
"Why am I here then?" you whisper after a moment of silence, trying to ignore the strange sensation in the pit of your belly.
"I thought she would have changed over time" sighed Leah "I was wrong."
Your insecurities give way to misunderstanding this time. You rise your eyes again, so that you can observe her at best.
"What are you talking about?" you ask while frowning.
"Oh please Babe, don’t tell me you didn’t notice her little game"
"We were just talking about Norway?"
You are lost and you look at Leah without understanding what she means. The pretty blonde looks at you a few seconds before smiling and rolling her eyes, realizing you aren't playing with her.
"It’s true that you have trouble realizing when someone is interested in you, I practically had to jump on you in a hospital bed for you to realize it"
You pout, even if your memories of that moment are intact in your memory. Like your first kiss, for that matter.
"When someone talks to you looking into your eyes, leaning in your direction with a hand on your arm or your knee, it’s an seduction attempt, Y/N."
"Oh."
Leah rolls her eyes again and smile before biting the corner of your jaw with a playful air on her face. You shove her elbow playfully, trying to escape her hold. You finally succeed, running away. Your feet slide on the snow trampled by others before you, but you manage to get away from Leah, passing the corner of the house. Knowing that you will not be able to walk away for a very long time, you take advantage of the few seconds that you have to take a handful of snow and turn it into a ball.
When Leah appears at the corner of the building, you send her the snowball, aiming a little too well since it arrives in full head. Fortunately, you didn’t squeeze the ball too much and the snow spread quickly in all directions and doesn't hurt her. It doesn’t seem to soften Leah, who stops dead and looks you right in the eyes.
"You’re so dead, Darling."
You swallow. You're so dead.
"I’m sorry?"
She resumes her race to catch you and you try to keep her in distance but she managed to catch you after a few meters, tackling you in the snow. The cold and humidity make you squeek, but it doesn’t stop Leah straddling your waist.
"I thought the Norwegians weren’t afraid of the cold?" said Leah maliciously, leaning over you.
"I never said anything about the snow getting in my clothes"
Leah laughs and throws you a handful of snow in the face to make a good figure and not show how much she has a soft spot for you. She has a reputation to uphold after all. But that doesn’t stop her from helping you rise up and take you back against her right after. You sigh at ease while putting yourself against her, your face in the hollow of her neck.
"I’m glad you’re here" said Leah after a few seconds, her lips in your hair.
"Yeah?"
"Mhm" she hums softly. "Just remind me to make sure to keep you away from Hailey next time."
"Will I really need to remind you?"
Your request is made with a small laugh and you lift yourself from her to look at her with amusement. Jealousy is a trait that you didn’t prepare for in her. But since you consider it a proof of love, it’s far from disturbing you. She’s jealous, but not so possessive. The difference is important to you.
"No, certainly not" Leah laughs before kissing your lips. "You’re mine."
"Yours"
You barely have time to exchange a new kiss that a cry of child sounds near you, making you both turn. Covered in snow from head to toe, James seems satisfied to find Leah.
"Lee! Jacob said the Arsenal players suck and then he threw me in the snow!"
"What?! I’m coming!"
Without hesitation, Leah hurries to join James and the Arsenal defenders in the snowball battle that began outside the house. When you come back with Leah’s coat, she’s already soaked, but she accepts it with pleasure. Her gloves too. And since you’re here, she takes the opportunity to steal a kiss from you before training you in battle. After all, it’s also your duty to defend Arsenal, right?

“Since 2019 I have endured six workplace investigations because of my advocacy and research on abortion and in every investigation I have been cleared of misconduct,”
Howe stated that she had endured six separate workplace investigations since 2019 regarding her pro-life research. She was found innocent of misconduct in each case, including the most recent investigation launched at the beginning of the year, which determined she was innocent of any breach in the Australian Code for Responsible Research.
Seems universities really don’t like when you conduct research on abortion if it’s not going to swing in favor of the pro-abortion stance.
