But there is a prophecy suggesting that when the God-King’s reborn soul inevitably returns to the world, so will She.
Chantry has never regretted the choice to leave her home in Carel and make her living working in the castle. Over the years, she’s worked her way up to be Princess Celine’s lady-in-waiting, the youngest of the royal family. Celine is kind and humble and her needs are few, so Chantry spends a lot of her time helping tend to the gardens, listening to Adel Forst play his harp. Chantry and Adel have been close friends since the day they met, but Chantry can’t help longing for more.
The world is beginning to change; the castle is growing tense at rumoured sightings of the mages of Nalaam, and the return of an ancient King of extraordinary power. One night, King Dominic himself wakes Chantry from her sleep and calls her to a meeting among the family and their advisers. Chantry is a fun character to me. She’s a little quieter than the others and basically one of the most ordinary people in the story (despite the blurb above). She just wants Adel to like her back, dammit. We’ve all been there. This character description reveals a little more of the plot behind ‘The Wildfire King’ as well.
