THE COURIER – Bourne meets Limitless
What if you discovered that you are an active participant in atrocities beyond your worst nightmares?... That your silence and inaction have lead to violence and death?... Ignorance is no longer bliss and a fat pay check.
The Courier explores a karmic theme with a twist. Joseph George Mendicino plays Joey - a seemingly nice guy who consciously disguises his identity to do his job. We meet him on the day that his beautiful girlfriend questions his activities and their karmic import, suggesting that he may be a silent cog in a ghastly machine. Then when an unexpected event forces him to reconsider everything, he is given unexpected powers to make amends with startling consequences.

the collaboration
Director J.Mackye Gruber, Jonathan, has three award winning features under his artistic belt - Blunt, The Butterfly Effect and Final Destination 2 - two of which became box office number one films. Jonathan approaches any creative endeavor as a collaboration. The whole is the sum of the parts. He pays homage to the talent that surrounds him, and that comes across on set and on film. No doubt about it, the law of attraction rocked this indie! Everyone who came to the table felt like part of The Alliance ready to blow up the Death Star…
First genius to jump on board - donating blood, sweat, and an arsenal of impressive equipment - was DP Michael FitzMaurice, aka Fitz. Google him and you quickly realize that this dude gave the Dark Knight / Ironman / Wanted / The Italian Job, etc their crazy action sequences. He is a visual dynamo with gizmos and gadgets that make Q’s collection look like kindergarten toys. Lighting Michael’s magic is first class gaffer Bobby Wotherspoon – designer of the unique lighting rig created for Gravity. Bobby lit Jonathan’s first feature and introduced him to Fitz. Bobby gifted his extensive lumination to The Courier and managed to make our Russian gangster location look like haunted gold. He also rode a bicycle around on set while whistling a happy tune…
With this triangle of talent in position, The Courier attracted a phenomenal cast and crew. A five-day shoot turned into nine days in nine locations, and then some. Many all-nighters, caffeine injections and eye drops, and we finally wrapped with a massive Semi smashing a… well that would be telling…
It has been a f***ing crazy trip - Drones, cranes, stunts, shooting, squibs, blood, kids, cases, gangbangers, green screens, warehouses, bridges, bombs, poison, pills, uzis, clubs, coke, severed limbs, schools, projections, pistols, deserts, snakes, a semi truck and a blow up doll... Just a flavor of what is in store for fans of The Courier…
There is something strangely exhilarating when a team of focused creatives come together, roll up their sleeves and get down and dirty. The Courier is a glimpse of many fun features ahead for this group of rebel ecstatics. And as we head into the edit and the creative world of VFX, sound design, music and more caffeine injections… Watch this space.
