Picked up today’s editions of the Mainichi Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun, and the Yomiuri Shimbun

And they’re stunning. Huge. Beautiful. Incredible quality considering they’re newspapers. I can’t wait to get them framed and on the wall!

Is it just me, or is it a bit sad and lonely that panda, with his one core remaining, is alone in a cupboard amongst “treasures”... for years & years as he is mostly forgotten about until someone … rummages through stuff and awakens him?

He is meant to have a soul, which presumably lasts forever in the state he is in (as a cursed corpse).

Hm. I guess it implies that, unless the souls find a way to reincarnate (relevant to all whose souls we have seen in the mysterious “afterlife”), they’ll remain in stasis...

Or something.

Tentative thoughts about the JJK Epilogue Chapters that have just leaked.

Spoilers (obviously) under the cut:

As you know if you have come across my posts, I’m a shipper so I view things with a special satosugu lens. I mean, they’re the grandparents - the strongest of the modern era - who started the wave of change, after all.

Just this image alone reminds me of that:

I digress.

So I think it links back to Gojo trying to nurture the students so that what happened to Geto and him wouldn’t be repeated.

The epilogue of each person seems to pull on themes relating to Gojo & Geto.

Snow = their connection = their Ao / 青春 / Blue Spring

Nostalgia. Unchanging bond. A sentimentality. Something treasured.

The person who you are on the inside may not change you when if things in life occur or threaten to change you.

Panda being Yuta’s/Gojo clan’s treasures = being spoken about by children of the future.

The passage of time that is natural. What seems to be a peaceful world. The curse between Yuta & Rika was unlike what was between Gojo & Geto.

If one is willing to heal, people can recover & move on. EDIT: Even if I’m not generally a fan of YutaMaki , I guess I can see the sense in it. Yuta is a bit monstrous from being able to bind Rika & upon releasing use her shikigami & move on (despite(?) his pure love much as it is part of his CT) with Maki. And Maki can use Mai (with honour) to obliterate her clan to change things. So they’re just quite fitting I guess. Gojo & Geto are a little different in that they moved on in some ways, but also bound each other emotionally until the end.

“From the bottom of my heart” / 心底 / 心の底 (as pictured from jjk0) - sincerity, authenticity. One’s true self.

That it matters whether one truly and sincerely cares. Whether the other portrays themselves authentically or not.

Even the blindfold and Gojo’s somewhat disapproving attitude towards Geto’s apparent frivolous attitude in his portrayal as a villain was pictured in 0 — seem to parallels with Nobara & her mum.

But they’re of course not perfectly paralleled. Gojo cared for Geto & Geto was honest with Gojo at the end. Geto also never enjoyed doing what he did, unlike that Nobara’s mum appears to. But that is if we believe what she actually says.

S: The same goes for you, Uraume.

Theme here? My only one.

Each other’s only exception. And they’re reunited in the afterlife.

Edit: if I’m not mistaken, Gojo & Geto do not refer to each other by name in the afterlife. Only in the scene in jjk 0 (“satoru, you’re late” & “suguru, ______”).

And so it seems poignant that Sukuna & Uraume call each other by name in the afterlife + flashback in the epilogue.

It makes for a nice contrast between the pairs, imho... it’s worth noting here that they also go in opposite directions - South & North, respectively. To the past/“unknown” and somewhere new/a “next time”.

In sum... It echoes my thoughts over the ending of jjk. Gojo, Geto, and the others of their generation helped to break the norms of the crappy jujutsu world.

Gege injects these little salient themes into the series and they’re like Easter eggs for people like me who think too much 🤣

Might I also mention Sukuna holding his tummy mouth open? Sticking out his tongue? Yuuji downright looking like Sukuna? The red eyes? The proud head tilt? When you said "If I like 99 things from a fanfic and dislike just 1 thing, I will still hate that fic". Sorry if I got your words a bit wrong. Just want to said you really remind me of my older cousin (who have moved to another country). See, they like to write fics and because of them, I got into fanfics. But they're not big fan of other fics and said something similar to what you said. So, to found someone who think like that too, kinda amaze me.

Oh yeah, what are your top 5 fav JJK cover manga?

You've got it right, more or less! I won't necessarily hate the whole fic (or story/media in general) because of one thing (or a few things) I dislike amidst several decent or good elements, but I'll certainly drop it. How it colors my perception of the story as a whole depends on the intensity of my dislike. For instance, if scat shows up in a sex scene, I'll be squicked out and drop it but won't be all that bothered overall, but if certain specific flavors of misogyny or queerphobia show up (and I'm not talking about outright bigotry being present or addressed in the text but more insidious versions that authors reproduce largely unintentionally), I'll develop a negative impression of the entire thing and likely avoid the author's other works.

So it's a scale, basically. I used to be a lot more tolerant and also prone to finishing anything I started, but I've grown pickier with age. I simply don't have the time or the energy to waste on things that don't spark joy.

Thankfully, most fandoms I've been in have had plenty of stories that suited my tastes. Even the JJK fandom, which I really don't gel with, has fed me a good 40–50 fics I adore.

As for the manga covers, I...could not pick just 5, so here's my top 7:

I'd also have added the Vol. 30 Yuuji cover because I fucking love his expression, the eyes especially, in it, but that angle is rather...horrendous. It's growing on me, but still.

In my satosugu-diseased brain, Gojo and/or Geto made this face to the other when they were reunited at some point in the afterlife.

For Yuji, the snow is reminiscent of his unchanged soul even despite the trauma and tragedy of what happened. And the “dazzling snow reminds me of someone I really love.” - for Oizawa, it’s a connection to Yuji.

The blue... between Gojo and Geto. Well, we know it reminded them of a time (and of the “one and only”) they had always cherished.

The “feelings arrow” is from Oizawa -> Yuji and not reciprocated.

But for Gojo & Geto? I’m eternally grateful that Gege made it Gojo -> <- Geto.

Thoughts on JJK lately? Especially with them running through nearly every character one by one? Got inspired after seeing the hydrogen bomb (Sukuna) vs Coughing baby (Babyboyblorboman)

Gege……… he needs to take FOREVER OFF lmfao. I’m still enjoying the story because the characters are what’s keeping it entertaining for me but you can tell that Gege just wants to hurry up and be through with JJK, too. This is the final stretch!!! The protagonists are facing off with the big bad! It’s almost over! But at what cost………

I’ve talked about this in even greater lengths before but the quality of Gege’s pacing and story telling has been extremely noticeable over the span of the last two years of its serialization. Literally everything from the flow to the pacing and build up of major moments and plot points within the story had all been *chefs kiss* beginning from JJK 0 all the way up to the end of Shibuya. Gege was definitely feeling himself, especially after writing two of some of the best arcs that I’ve ever read in a shounen back to back? I was like

All while reading the shit, I am so SERIOUS!!! Not even glazing JJK, the arcs were just that fantastic!

Unfortunately, shortly after this amazing run, Gege had started to take hiatus after hiatus (I felt so bad… the fans were being assholes about it of course because they’re entitled and ugly, but his health was more important so I was glad that he decided to take a month long break. Now, Gege goes on breaks all of the time and I’m happy for him but at this point, I just wished that JJK became a monthly release instead because Jesus Christ, JJK used to be written SO much better than what we’re getting now. If he had more time to work on his story, I feel like both his health and story would drastically improve for sure. The fans would just have to learn how to be patient. I hate that Gege is just rushing through JJK like water out of a faucet right now. Because as a long time reader, I know that it used to be written better than this.

The stakes are always so high… (I get it since they’re fighting Sukuna after all, but man), the characters don’t have a moment to even breath, and the cast of characters are being treated like background fodder instead of the amazing characters that they are. It’s all just… “my turn!” *dies horribly* “my turn!” *dies horribly* “my turn!” *dies horribly* “my turn!” *dies horribly* “my turn-“ over and over and over again. Like, what the fuck?

It sucks. There’s little to no exposition and development involved in the story and it’s characters anymore. Thank god that most of them already had their own character development arcs already because Gege doesn’t focus on that at all anymore. Everything’s just so fast paced and erratic. Things are just “happening,” now instead of building up to these big moments and a lot of the character deaths of the major players have just felt like they were written purely for shock value and or to simply, “get them out of the picture so that Gege could move on-“ *coughs* Gojo *choking up blood*

Even the whole thing with Gojo was… it’s like, I just didn’t enjoy how it all ENDED with him passing on and not ever being able to evolve on an emotional level? Him being able to get over being “the strongest,” would’ve been such an incredible breakthrough for his character. His trauma and complex of being essentially, this deified monster instead of the human being that was, and never being able to fully connect with anyone that understood that about him. That would’ve been GREAT. He deserved it! Even the people who loved and cared about him only really saw him as this all mighty thing instead of the person who he was deep down (it wasn’t their faults… and Gojo’s never made it any easier for others to get close enough to “get,” him anyway so 😭…)

I can see JJK ending in at least 20 more chapters or so. Maybe 30. I do remember back in December where vol. 25’s cover had first been revealed, that the seiyu’s for both Gojo and Sukuna, acted out some of the future content from the manga right before their big fight and how Gege had announced that JJK would be ending this year but that guy said the same shit last year/ or back in 2022 so lmfao.
