gunwook couldn’t help but giggle, seeing how clueless you were. you had no idea how obvious his feelings were. it was like a secret game to him, watching you so unaware of how much he liked you, despite him constantly creating a reason to find you.

gunwook knew exactly what he was doing when he’d fake an injury during basketball practice. it wasn’t that he actually got hurt, but he’d always manage to ‘slip’ or ‘twist’ something just enough to need attention. but the real reason? he loved having your attention on him. he’d sit there, trying to hide his grin, pretending to be in pain just to have you close. it wasn’t that he wanted to get hurt, but the way you cared for him made his heart race, and the excuse to see you — even for just a moment — was worth it every time.

— wherein three year old hyunwoo gets a little curious.

when hyunwoo turned three, he started to become curious about more things he could see and learn through his eyes.

one of the newer things he found out himself was how he liked how the word “dada” sounded to his ears, constantly muttering it whenever he could.

his curiosity was like a flame, constantly burning.

whenever he could, hyunwoo would keep saying “dada?” “where dada?” “no dada?” “wan(t) dada!”, making your heart break a little when his little globes well up with tears, his pouty lips appearing when you say about his father’s whereabouts, nowhere.

one of the conversations you always had with hyunwoo was repetitive whenever he asked about jiwoong’s whereabouts.

“bean, you asked mum about dad, right?” you asked as you held hyunwoo in your arms, letting his little figure settle in your lap as he tried to wrap his little arms around you.

“yes, wan dada.” hyunwoo says firmly, entirely sure about his wants even at an early age. this was something you were sure that he inherited from jiwoong, being strong minded even at a young age.

“well.. dad is still busy, bean. he’s working hard to get all of your favorites.” you reply, smoothing his unruly hair.

“really? will get trains, cars, bluey, and paw patrol?” hyunwoo perked up in your lap, eyes gleaming with joy when you told him about jiwoong’s plans.

a part of you hurts when you tell him a white lie, unable to tell the child that jiwoong isn’t actually around.

and yet, you still nod, a part of you hoping that hyunwoo would then forget in the succeeding days about this conversation.

a part of you wishes that jiwoong would look for you, wanting you back.
