#horizon zero dawn#horizon forbidden west#hzd#hfw#i was revisiting antigone#and had the horrible thought that jiran#at the peak of his madness#would have prevented anybody from burying or mourning kadaman publicly#it's not clear what was done with the remains of the victims in the sun-ring#maybe they were just left there#for vultures to feast on#maybe there was nothing left to reclaim when avad returned months later#my stuff

do you ever think about how Avad’s last straw was witnessing his brother Kadaman’s execution in the sun ring? An execution ordered by their own father?
#god jiran sounded so awful#and he’s largely responsible for the carja being so despised everywhere#and kadaman thought bc of his status he wouldn’t be harmed#he was older than avad which made him heir to the sun throne#and that is what he thought would protect him#not his father’s love for him but where he stood in terms of political power.#and it didn’t work…#i hope avad wasn’t there to actually witness his brother’s death#i can’t even imagine especially bc it sounds like they were close#avad needs to be protected is what i’m saying#he’s had so much loss (kadaman and yes jiran still counts and ersa….)#AND FASHAV! he gets word that his long lost cousin is coming home just to be sent his broken bones…..#horizon: zero dawn#sun king avad

“You’re going to make a wonderful king.”
Itamen looks up at him.
“No more cages?”
Avad shakes his head, smiling down at his brother. It’s easy to forget how young he is, sometimes - even after a prank like this one.
“No more cages.”
Itamen exhales heavily, relaxing back against his side, and Jiran’s two sons take in the calm quiet of a golden afternoon.
“Teach me how to keep it that way?” Itamen’s voice is quiet, but serious.
Avad has never considered having children of his own, not really. But as he looks down at Tam? He wonders if the bright feeling in his chest is the same one that fosters the softness he’s heard in the voices of other children’s fathers.
He hugs Itamen tighter, swallowing around the knot in his throat.
“We’ll learn together.”
