Forgot to upload this but! 6th March is 驚蟄, which means it's the time where bugs will come out from the soil (and so do nasty people who bugs your life)! That's why people often perform a ritual called 打小人 here in HK, in which you'd write the name of the person on a ritual paper, place it on a brick, and hit it with an old shoe; it's said that this will prevent that nasty person from hurting you again!

I’ve been very busy with school, but no matter how busy I am, I will always have time for my bedtime stories (danmei novels). Lately, I’ve been reading this very good Palace Intrigue novel.
And hear this, I’m not that fond of palace intrigue. Not that I hate it… it’s just not a genre I’d first look at when I’m looking for something to read. Palace Intrigue tend to be either too complicated and serious with the mysteries and scheming, completely neglecting the romance aspect (the reason why I even read danmei and not no CP works), OR they are just not serious and complicated enough and everything seems like fun and games.
Palace Intrigue needs to be at a very specific sweet spot for me to enjoy it. This is why although I’ve read many such novels under the genre, the ones I really like and can even remember the title of are just two—Si Tian Guan and I Rely on Beauty to Stabilize the Country (though I have not yet finished both because of certain reasons)
But now, I can finally add a third one to that list: 可是他长得美啊 (lit. But He Looks Beautiful Ah)
The romance and the intrigue aspects are perfectly balanced, and I guess it has a lot to do with how the romance itself is also full of intrigue—and not a political or a love-hate type of intrigue, but simply… on what it’s really like to love someone.
The novel realistically explores what it’s like to love someone whose morals and principles you may not always agree with.
I initially thought the novel was going to have a typical Yandere Top x Submissive Bottom kind of pairing… But it doesn’t. Instead, it challenges this Yandere Top archetype and shows how it won’t work at all in a real loving relationship, and it does this without being puritan over it.
The protagonist Jingzhe would stop the male lead Rong Jiu from doing extreme acts, but at the same time he tries to understand why the latter would do such a thing. He doesn’t try to “heal” Rong Jiu, but instead he coaxes him to a middle point that they agree on. They argue a lot over this, but that just shows how much they care for each other.
There were instances where Rong Jiu tried to force Jingzhe to the dark side, but Jingzhe never once gave in. Then, slowly, little by little, Rong Jiu learns to restrain himself and understand what Jingzhe values, while Jingzhe also understands Rong Jiu and makes him feel more secure in their relationship.
Instead of either getting converted to the other’s side, they learn to meet each other in the middle.
And I like that.
#like rong jiu is really so extreme#even threatening to kill jingzhe’s friends#but thank god he never did#可是他长得美啊#but he looks beautiful ah#i still hate that translation grr#but he looks so beautiful#<- sounds more natural#danmei#danmei review#danmei recs#miyamiwu.rev#miyamiwu.src#miyamiwu.live

JINGZHE - wip intro
jingzhe (n.) — marking the beginning of spring, when thunderstorms awaken hibernating insects.
first created for the writeblr garden’s pumpkin pitch event !
setting: 1920-30s republican era southern china, low fantasy (probably) status: outlining inspiration & vibes: cantonese operas, deities and ghosts, standing on a wooden stage, gramophones, the sound of an erhu from the room next door, desperately looking for someone who doesn't want to be found content warnings (to be updated): death, murder probably
synopsis —
To the residents of the city of Yunshui, Chuyan is the eccentric owner of an antiques shop, preferring to lead an uneventful, if not lazy lifestyle. But to those who remember from ten years ago, Chuyan was the rising opera star that no one had ever seen, until his debut performance that ended horribly wrong, leaving its entire (living) audience dead by the end of the night. When a mysterious customer shows up at his doorstep, Chuyan knows that his time is up, but maybe this time he'll be able to find out the truth about his abilities, once and for all.
excerpt —
Yunshui was beautiful in the morning. There was a stunning view of it from the highest floor, golden light creeping across the wood and brick rooftops until all of the skyline was bathed in it. It made for a wonderful sight for sore eyes when one was bothered to take the rickety flight of stairs upwards, especially accompanied by a cup of hot tea, and some steaming hot buns from an alleyway stall for breakfast. Such was not one of these mornings, however, as Xiaokui unceremoniously threw the curtains open, letting the blinding sun hit me directly in the face. “I’ll pay you to stop doing that,” I grumbled, turning over in bed to face the other side of the room. It was still cool enough that I could stay under the covers without being overly warm, but spring days had the tendency to be damp, which was equally uncomfortable in a different way. “I’ll give you a bonus for every day you let me sleep in late.” “You already pay my salary.” The clang of a washbasin hitting a wooden tabletop sounded through the room. “If I didn’t wake you up, you wouldn’t be awake to do business, and then I really wouldn’t get paid. So get up, laoban.” Begrudgingly, I made a show of peeling the blanket away from myself. “Fine, fine fine. But maybe in the meantime… you could get me one of those—” A warm, fist-sized package wrapped in brown paper collided with my shoulder. “Bought it already.” “You shouldn’t have. So efficient today!” “You have an appointment with Mister Luo from the Silversmith’s Guild,” Xiaokui called back, his voice farther away than it was earlier. “You’re not allowed to be late again this time, or else all your business with them will go to the Huo’s.” His footsteps had almost faded away at that point, but then they suddenly turned back. “Oh, and there was a customer just now, but I told them to come back later when you were awake. So, get dressed!”

The singer puts his all into what might be his last show, voice weaving and soaring above the percussion. He does not know if he will make it through. He's not sure if he hopes that he might.
The musician lets the rhythm of his footsteps across the stage guide her. It's harder when all she can see are shadows through the cloth across her eyes, but she has done this many times, and she can do it this one, final time.
He had intended to sneak back in, just before the end of the performance. But then the applause came all too soon, and by the time he returned to the theatre, there isn't a single living soul left.
"I'm sorry for asking you to do this for me," he says, gentler than she's ever known him to be. He holds up a strip of cloth in his hands. "Close your eyes, Yuqin." "Don't be," she answers almost immediately, as the weave of the fabric settles across her eyelids and he ties the blindfold into place. She doesn't understand why he's sorry, because she certainly isn't. "I am willing. Whatever it takes."
Pre-NaNoWriMo Activity #2
Write a list of 3-5 things that happen. They can be related to your main plot if you have a story idea yet, or not.
Example:
William and Nick cheat on their algebra exam.
Henrietta finds a mermaid in her clawfoot bathtub.
A small plane crashes in B's garden in New Hampshire.
Then, choose one of your points and write a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) expanding on it.
Feel free to share!

“Why were you crying?” Xiao Chi asked. “I didn’t cry.” His arms moved of their own volition, wrapping themselves around Xiao Chi’s neck. The hug caused Xiao Chi’s body to slide down a little, and the curls tickling Lin Jingzhe’s face slipped from his cheek to his jawline. Both of them seemed to be a little tired. Although he had just woken up, Lin Jingzhe had trouble keeping his eyes open. Xiao Chi’s head dropped, landing on his pillow; a moment later, he turned and buried it in the curve of Lin Jingzhe’s neck. The tip of his nose slid up Lin Jingzhe’s skin until finally, it reached the younger man’s ear. “You did,” he whispered. Lin Jingzhe let out a sharp gasp. He hugged Xiao Chi’s neck tightly, mind blank, his knees bending slightly. Xiao Chi’s lips finally touched his skin, pausing for a moment at the spot between his ear and cheek. “Why were you crying?” “I don’t know…” Xiao Chi’s reply was a series of small, scattered kisses.
Ohhh he's being so direct now haha

Peerless: Chapter 14
[Feng Xiao:]"...I have a much bigger and better treasure already. Would you like to see it?” [Cui Buqu:]“I’m waiting. Please pull it out.” Feng Xiao clicked his tongue twice and said, “A-Qu, you’re too frivolous. Valuable things deserve respect; how could you tell me to pull it out so crudely? You should tell me to present it instead.” “I’m afraid if you do, your treasure will shrink to the size of a finger, and I’ll be greatly disappointed.” “I’m talking about a zither,” Feng Xiao exclaimed in surprise. “What are you talking about?” Cui Buqu snorted. “I’m also talking about a zither. Why do you think I’m not?” Pei Jingzhe couldn’t bear to listen to their conversation any longer. He raised his teacup to hide his twitching lips.
