jing yuan always calls fu xuan "符卿" (fu qing) which GUESS WHAT 卿 qing is a term of address for ministers/officials CLOSE to the emperor

WHAT'S MORE is that fu xuan tends to use 本座 ben zuo to refer to herself instead of 我 wo. like, when she's talking to us or other people she mostly uses 本座 ben zuo. but whenever we see her in-game conversations with jing yuan, she ONLY ever uses 我 wo. that's yet another display of intimacy; when you use formal (noble, even) personal pronouns then the people you choose to use informal personal pronouns around are very close indeed.

Jing Yuan is captain of the emperor’s militia. His newest assignment is to be the bodyguard of the recently appointed fiance of the emperor, Fu Xuan. Known for her intellectual prowess and beauty, she would make a fine empress.

•their first meeting included fu xuan getting upset by how utterly easy her opponents in chess were. Jing yuan offered to help an opponent to make things more interesting. It ended up becoming a match between jing yuan and fu xuan, the former winning. Fu xuan, dumbfounded at her loss, demands a rematch.

• Jing Yuan later figures out that her intellect is more than just for show. He sees a great warrior in front of him

• Fu Xuan’s marriage is for political reasons only

He is gorgeous, the general, particularly up close where she can see each of his moles and creases, all that marks him human. Fu Xuan hears the unwilling quickening of her heartbeats.

“Keep calm,” he repeats. “Breathe, Fu Xuan.”

Irrespective of her racing heart, she joins him as he inhales—chests rising and falling in tandem, again, again. She lets her own eyes close, her vision slipping into the unsettling dark. There’s warm security in the way his hand cups the back of her head, and she basks in it; dwelling in wafts of herbal mist, freshly inked parchment, salts of old regret among lotus leaves.
