A guilty pleasure of sorts (I mean, lets be honest - many people would argue that any Uday Chopra movie that you don't outright hate - aside from maybe Dhoom - is nothing more than a guilty pleasure). I've enjoyed this movie since the first time I saw it - the reuniting of the Mohabbatein duo (Jimmy Sheirgill/Uday Chopra) plus the guest appearance of another Mohabbatein 'star' (Shamita Shetty), alongside Sanjana (aka Tulip Joshi) and Bipasha Basu ... what a random starcast, looking back at it now.
But, at the time, it resulted in a lot of fun, some entertaining songs, the typical rom/com romantic drama story of man in love with girl who is due to marry someone else - but in this case, both of our mains are complete oafs and don't realize the feelings they have for each other. Or, as we find out later, they maybe have realized - they're just too dense to tell the other person (or anyone else, even - aside from him telling his roommate, who literally hauls her ass over to help him out, only for him to back out of his plan because someone cries) and would therefore rather ruin (okay, maybe not that - Jimmy's character didn't seem like he was a bad person, but he was so awfully close to becoming Love Aaj Kal's - the first one, that is - Rahul Khanna; instead he lucks out and just ends up becoming KKHH's Salman Khan) their lives.
This possibly may have been the start of "Jimmy doesn't get the girl," an overarching theme of many of Jimmy's many movies that seemed to reach it's peak in the Tanu Weds Manu series - where he not only initially gets left behind by Kangna, but then later finds himself again left behind by not only Kangna, but also Kangna's lookalike Kangna.
But yeah, it starts here when he gets engaged to a girl who loves, but ignores said love, her best friend. That's just a recipe for disaster, and as worst case plays out for him, you just wonder if maybe something will work out with him and Sanju's friend/roommate (likely no longer a roommate). Because he's nice enough to deserve something good.
Of course, life doesn't give a shit about that - if anything, it probably means he's just destined to a lifetime of sadness. But that's a story for another never.
I really like this movie, even after repeated rewatches.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha (2024): Ajay Devgn’s Biggest Disaster!
You need Courage to Love. If you are a guy who has ever fallen in love, then your love story can never be complete if you don’t possess that courage. “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” translated as “Where Was The Courage In Others” is writer and director Neeraj Pandey’s cult romantic drama that was released in theaters on August 2, 2024. Starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu as the romantic duo alongside Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar as their younger versions, the film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill. Presenting Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar as young Krishna and Vasudha in “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” https://youtu.be/ATSDZnCy5h4?si=_jLFUzyqXIjFv9fr After 23 years when Krishna is released from life imprisonment, will he be able to meet the love of his life who is married to someone else? If he does, where will fate take his love story? The Title Track: “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha” – Recited by Ajay Devgn! https://youtu.be/3td5tuOVgJo?si=0yoCjBR89a8KHQ4U To Love You Must Have The Courage! Presenting The Official Trailer Of Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha (2024): https://youtu.be/2lr5h0IqArI?si=774kMBJljz5tT0ln The Good: It was indeed a pleasure to see Bollywood’s remarkable romantic duo Ajay Devgn and Tabu once again together on the big screens. Not just on-screen, what spikes my interest in them is Ajay Devgn and Tabu are rumored to be really close. It has been said that Tabu, in her real life, didn’t marry because she had feelings for Ajay Devgn, who is married to actress Kajol. I don’t know how far that’s true, but that’s how the rumors go. So, seeing them together brings back the 90s-era Bollywood’s refreshing memories and also the memories of the cult thriller “Drishyam”. That’s another thing they acted as enemies in “Drishyam”. The track “Ae Dil Zara” From Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha https://youtu.be/ea5DH7ttQ1g?si=Pnir2EYtmEULqPdv The plot of Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is thought-provoking. This love story can surely leave you wondering, why some love stories have to be so full of hardships? The fact is some love stories can never be explained, they just happen and destiny just does not accept them! Imagine going to prison for murder and spending 23 years there and after 23 years, suddenly getting released. I bet the world will appear as a completely new place to anybody who suffers this fate. As young Krishna (Shantanu Maheshwari) committed two murders to save his love Vasudha (Saiee Manjrekar) from gang rape, he had to face a 23-year prison sentence. Vasudha's Dialogue Promo: https://youtu.be/uszTAtpb6SA?si=gUpMAo2snWWpEBmV After 23 years when Krishna was released (Now Ajay Devgn), everything changed. He had to start a new life again. His love (Now Tabu) whom he had saved from the rapists was married to a big-shot named Abhijeet. So, where will fate take Krishna and Vasudha’s lives? The visuals in certain instances had the retro and nostalgic essence of the 90s-era Hindi movies and you will feel that you are really watching one of those melodramatic cinematic pieces from the 90s. Some of the romantic tracks were melodious. Even the romantic dialogues in the movie have the dramatic essence of the 90s-era Hindi dialogues. The filmmakers have cleverly selected a separate casting to showcase the younger versions of Krishna and Vasudha. The screenplay continuously fluctuates from the past to the present throughout the movie. But due to the separate casting, you won’t get confused and will be able to keep track of the proceedings throughout the movie. You will be able to follow when the scenes take the story 23 years in the past and bring it back to the present. "Jahan Se Chale The": The Extended Version Of "Ae Dil Zara" https://youtu.be/V_MGRUomrCg?si=3Vpdwp7qcXvpWJMf The Bad: I am extremely disappointed after watching Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. To be honest, it was superbly boring. I can bet that if you happen to visit the theater to watch this on-screen torture, you won’t be able to sit in the hall for more than 30 minutes, considering this to be a 2-hour 30-minute movie. Frankly, not just lovers require courage, but you will also require an enormous amount of courage to sit through the end of this movie. The screenplay is extremely slow-paced which makes it intolerably boring in certain instances. Apart from the prison-fight action scenes of Ajay Devgn, there was barely any thrill. The climax revealed a dark truth about Vasudha which could have been thrilling. The ending was shocking but it failed to thrill because of its poor execution. The fact is, the attack and assault on Vashudha were shown multiple times during the screenplay, which made the audience lose interest in the real story at the climax. Krishna's Dialogue Promo: https://youtu.be/Hnpm7S3j3EE?si=fmoSGdEgUjJ_TElr Besides, the melodrama that built itself throughout the screenplay was just unbearable! I must say, this time Ajay Devgn’s natural acting won’t bear fruit. Throughout the movie, Devgn appeared completely expressionless. The fact is, the script has been designed so dully. Also, selecting an unpopular actor like Shantanu Maheshwari as the lead (the younger version of Krishna) was a blunder that the filmmakers committed. He just doesn’t possess the aura of a romantic and daring lover and simply doesn’t fit the character he plays. He, in fact, looked like a spectacled geek who keeps his head buried in books most of the time. Tabu did not have much role to play apart from giving vivid expressions of grief and remorse. Jimmy Sheirgill as Vasudha’s husband, Abhijeet added some inquisitiveness in the minds of the audience. Saiee Manjrekar as the young Vasudha was cheerful and appeared lively, but her fine performance was drowned in this tsunami of a melodrama. The track “Tuu” From Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha https://youtu.be/1ZJZV_-5lUM?si=_CD41uohwiL01Ioi The Verdict: I am astonished at what took the filmmakers a whopping INR 100 Crores to make this disaster! I have to tell you, this film was so boring that in the theater hall, I could see people walking away 20 minutes before the climax happened. Seemed like they just couldn’t bear it anymore! As per reports, this is the biggest disaster that Ajay Devgn has ever participated in. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha collected only INR 8 Crores at the Box Office. I’m waiting for Ajay Devgn’s “Singham Again”. Hope he can revive his lost image with it. The main problem is Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha has been created a bit too larger than life. I think the name of this movie is apt, “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha”. Allow me to do the honors of extending its name to “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha…Pura Film Dekhne Ko?” which means, “Where Was The Courage In Others To Watch The Entire Movie?” Jokes apart, only I had it! Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage! https://youtu.be/bwiAkkB7R_4?si=0OdVkkTJI0TfcBVN

Since this is a Jimmy Shergill appreciation day...
"Pedro Pascal and Jimmy Shergill only look alike because of their 'stache."
Let me introduce you to Jimmy Shergill as Marcus Pike.
(Also, they could play brothers. Pedro would be his half-Desi brother).

Ok, but my favourite coincidence is Pedro Pascal playing a detective in a game show released at the same time at a movie where his Indian lookalike Jimmy Shergill played a detective.

28 Years of #Maachis (25/10/1996).
Maachis is a period political thriller film directed by #Gulzar and produced by R. V. Pandit. It stars #OmPuri, #Tabu, Chandrachur Singh, Jimmy Sheirgill, Suneel Sinha, Kanwaljit Singh, Ravi Gossain, and Raj Zutshi in the lead roles. Songs by Vishal Bhardwaj & Gulzar.
The film portrays the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s and traces the transformation of a youth from a boy next door to an angry person bent on wreaking vengeance, upon receiving gross injustice from the political system and sidelined being labelled as terrorist, to make it easy to kill him without any state accountability.
The title is used as a metaphor that conveys that the youth of any nation are matchsticks that could ignite due to deficiencies in the political and policing systems. Maachis is a film about what atrocities can drive an ordinary human to do. It looks back at the Punjab problem and tries to figure out some of the root causes.

Okay, I really can't complain because - well, anyone that has heard about this movie, or even if you're just looking at the posters, you know what this is (utter shit). And it's creepy as fuck, seeing Rajesh Khanna in this role. I mean, he's not the only old timey actor who has done some really junky movie (Amitabh Bachchan in Boom, for example), but this one undoubtedly takes the cake. In a very, very not good way. I don't know how he agreed to this at all. (Honestly, that can probably be said for everyone in the movie - though, in 2008, I guess we were amidst the whole 'skin show' thing, so it makes sense that some folks signed up for their 15 seconds of fame.) Also, they go way over-the-top with the devoted husband bit, and its fucking annoying (though, I guess, that can be expected given the name of the movie).
Get a fucking doctor to advise, because asthma inhalers should not be used as perfume bottles. What a fucking shitshow. ... Also, how the hell does he just walk into a hotel and be like "is there any room for (name)" and when there isn't, "is there any other name?" (uh, of course?), and when so, "can I know the room number?" - and he gets the fucking room number from the manager at the hotel! Like, talk about a horrible hotel manager. Privacy, security, everything - all right out the window.
Worst movie I've ever seen? Yeah, maybe - though this was expected to be that the second I turned it on (and even over the last 16 years, when I avoided turning it on). I expected Red to be bad, but not the worst - but it was destroyed by horrible medical knowledge in the plot; Deewana Main Deewana had Govinda and Priyanka Chopra, so I did expect at least something out of that one. This one, though, had no expectations at all, so I guess in a relative sense, it may not be the lowest of lowest 0 star movies. (Money Hai Toh Honey Hai also comes into the conversation, I guess; I'm sure a few more, too, that just don't come to mind right now.)
The songs are very fitting for this movie and this acting.
Once the 'suspense' starts, a couple of considerations came into play for me.
Raqeeb, where he knows what's coming and somehow faked it (but unlike Jimmy Sheirgill in that movie, in this one Rajesh Khanna returns immediately and makes no attempt to hide it; also, if the body was messed up beyond recognition, how did she recognize it as him so easily; and where did he even find a body?), or Rishi Kapoor's Khoj, which had a similar attempt many years before.
Red Swastik, where she's hallucinating him (completely different setting, but same idea) - in that case, this would probably be a portrayal of the guilt of the crime riding on her (this seems clever, but also very deep for this type of movie - and most Bollywood movies in general, and would be hard to pull off with them showing that everyone else also sees him).
Vodka Diaries-level psychiatric break? This also had a hallucination at the end, but not to the level of Red Swastik.
And, of course, a Dhoom 3-style double role is always in play in Bollywood - but then, how did they be married for 5 years and her not know (and even his sister never brought it up)?
But, honestly - if she's demanding it isn't her husband, forcing them to stay together seems to be very risky and dumb. Can't believe they'd keep doing that.
And how she keeps alternating between yelling to everyone he's a fraud and then trying to seduce him - first, obviously fake and he's got to know that, but second, why the fuck does he keep letting her do that? He's clearly got to know what she's trying to do - but what is his end goal? Because unless this goes full-scale Bollywood-level shit, there's no way she's just going to be like "I screwed up, let's go back to how it was before when I felt super trapped (and literally almost had 2 psychotic breaks in the first 5 minutes of the movie)." And how would the relationship even last, because she's not going to stop feeling trapped. And sexually unsatisfied, because apparently whenever she even tries he has an asthma attack and then passes out. So, again, what is his end goal in all this? He already knows she tried to kill him, so he can admit everything and have her arrested at once. Essentially, his end goal seems to amount to "I love you, so I will torture you incessantly (to make you accept me as your husband) instead of having you arrested for attempted murder." Clearly she doesn't love him, and he's completely oblivious to how trapped she feels (even though she already told him that). He's like "I love you," so be with me even if I can't have sex without having an asthma attack and am constantly harassing you and not allowing you to do anything; by the end, he's literally driven her insane. (Well done, you torturing asshole.) You got what you wanted, I guess - she admitted to trying to kill you (which you already knew), the cops literally tortured your driver/her boyfriend(?) with electric shocks, and you drove her fucking insane with your stupid decision/actions. (Hell, the ending is even a little bit like Kaashi, but even that movie portrays it's overall story better than this nonsense.)
Also annoying - the future brother-in-law, who just shows up to say 'bhabhi' in a very annoying way, over and over again.
Even the appearance of Tinu Anand and Sudesh Berry can't save anything here, because they're essentially not here - and when they are, they're just being stupid and saying "oh, you have to keep staying with him." And the cops just letting him go and touch her over and over again when she says stop (husband or not) is pathetic. In fact, Sudesh Berry's cop allowing this sort of harassment (on both ends) to go on is just fucking annoying - also because we have to keep hear her yelling as a result. Neither of them amounted to anything here.
Somehow, the movie's ending is even worse than everything leading up to it, which I would've thought impossible with the way the first half of the movie went.
I've changed my mind - yes, this movie is very much in serious contention for worst movie I've ever seen. What Red has in horrible medical storytelling and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai has in terrible plot and Deewana Main Deewana has in terrible moral/message and that Sunny Leone/Arbaan Khan movie has in floating mango horror, this movie has in literally fucking everything. What a shitshow.
