Mumbai: In a momentous occasion at Soundideaz Studio, Andheri (West), Mumbai, the recording of the inaugural song for the much-anticipated feature film “Godaan” has been successfully completed. The film is presented by the esteemed Deen Dayal Kamdhenu Cow Research Centre, with eminent producers Sandeep Marwah and Vinod K. Choudhary leading the creative charge.

The recording session commenced with the auspicious breaking of the coconut and worship of Lord Shri Ganesha by Dr. Satish, the provincial director of Mumbai Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The event witnessed the online presence of key figures, including Jayanand Kumar (National Executive Member Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), Bala Saheb Chaudhary Karwa (Area Sangh Director, West Uttar Pradesh), Mahesh Gupta (President, Kamdhenu Gau Research Center, Mathura), Harishankar (Kamdhenu Research Center, Mathura), Mahendra Ji Bhai Saheb (Area Pracharak, West), along with workers and officials from Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand and various union committees, connected via Zoom to witness the historic recording.

Adding an extra layer of celebration, the production team marked the birthday of the illustrious producer, Sandeep Marwah, by cutting a cake within the recording studio. Renowned Bollywood singer Shaan, along with a dynamic chorus, lent their voices to the soul-stirring song titled ‘Jai Gau Jai Gopala…,’ penned by the prolific lyricist Sameer.

Based on the timeless narrative from the legendary writer Munshi Premchand, “Godaan” is helmed by the acclaimed Indian film director Ashok Tyagi. The film boasts a stellar team, including cinematographer Binod Pradhan, action director Babbu Khanna, sound maestro Anoop Dev, and music composer Riju Roy.

This collaboration between Sandeep Marwah, Vinod K. Choudhary, and the Deen Dayal Kamdhenu Cow Research Centre promises to deliver a cinematic masterpiece that resonates with the cultural and literary richness of Munshi Premchand’s iconic work.

#30YearsofParina. (03/11/1989) Parinda is a 1989 crime drama film co-written, produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film stars Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles, with Suresh Oberoi and Tom Alter in supporting roles. Anupam Kher makes a special appearance in the film. Chopra wrote its story and scenario, while Shiv Kumar Subramaniam wrote the screenplay. Dialogue was written by Imtiyaz Husain. R. D. Burman composed the music and Khurshid Hallauri wrote the lyrics. Binod Pradhan served as the film's cinematographer and Renu Saluja was its editor.

Parinda follows Kishan (Shroff), who works for the underworld don Anna (Patekar). Kishan's brother Karan (Kapoor) returns home from the United States after completing his studies. Anna's men kill Karan's friend Prakash (Kher) in front of Karan; the two brothers are then caught on different sides of morality when Karan decides to murder Anna.

Chopra conceived the film after his low-budget suspense thriller Khamosh (1985) failed to find a distributor for a theatrical release. This motivated Chopra to make a more mainstream film with well-known actors, and he wrote a new story about two brothers. Parinda received critical acclaim when released. It is considered by many to be the turning point in the introduction of realism in Hindi cinema. Parinda also won two National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards, and was India's official selection for the 1990 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but it was not nominated. In 2015, Chopra remade Parinda as a Hollywood film titled Broken Horses.

IPL, coronavirus and US election results top Google searches in 2020

The coronavirus pandemic and US election results dominated online searches in 2020, though the Indian Premier League remained the top trending query in India, according to the annual ‘Year in Search’ list by Google. The Bihar and Delhi election results also generated considerable searches, along with US President-election Joe Biden and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samaan Nidhi (PM Kisan Scheme) was part of the top trending queries as well. Globally, coronavirus was the top trending query, with election results, Zoom, IPL and the India vs New Zealand match also making it to the top ten. In India, many of the top searches were centred around the words ‘how to’ and ‘what is’, and reflected the drastic changes brought about by Covid-19, including the lockdown and working from home. In the first category, the most popular searches were for how to make paneer, cake, jalebi, dalgona coffee and sanitiser at home, as well as how to increase immunity, prevent coronavirus and apply for an e-pass. The top ‘what is’ searches revolved around the coronavirus, plasma therapy and hantavirus, but also the viral ‘Binod�� meme, CAA, NRC and nepotism. Local searches for ‘near me’ queries saw Indians searching for food shelters near me, as well as nearby Covid test, night shelter, grocery store, broadband connection and laptop shop. Writer-director Abhishek Varman employs all the possible equations that spark tension in relationships to tell a story of star-crossed lovers.Using the Sanjay Leela Bhansali route, he takes his camera and choreographer into an ageing nautch girl's palatial house of music and dance for lavish song and dance sequences.Everything about Kalank is opulent. A pre-Partition drama between the grand and much-respected house of the Chaudhry family and Lahore's Hira Mandi where illegitimacy and immorality reside.When Roop, the tender new daughter-in-law of patriarch Balraj Chaudhry is drawn to the music of Bahaar Begum in Hira Mandi, the forbidden beckons. It brings to the fore the play between Balraj Chaudhry and Bahaar, the ageing nautch girl, which in turn impacts the taboo romance between Roop and daredevil Zafar. The shirtless Zafar whose illegitimacy makes him as hard and as hot as the iron he hammers to make the best weapons.And then there's Roop's husband Dev Chaudhry who's still in love with his first wife Satya.The connection between Balraj and Bahaar, Zafar's destructive anger over his illegitimacy, the mansion on the respectable side of the social divide and Hira Mandi with its notoriety, all of it is leisurely and dramatically tied up. There's fire outside too with communal tensions stoked by men like Abdul, Zafar's brother-like friend.So there's the Hindu-Muslim war cry raging and Balraj Chaudhry's respectable façade versus the morals of Hira Mandi all synthesised for a spectacular drama. At the core is the old Hindi film nugget of the ageing, secular whore with the golden heart.Perhaps that's the problem with Kalank. It strives too hard to overwhelm. And the visuals with grand camerawork by Binod Pradhan are calibrated to stun. Don't look too closely for authenticity as a spectacular Dassera sequence in Hira Mandi has jumping blue figures with bows and arrows forming the backdrop for the entry of Zafar into Roop's heart. It's just one of the many examples of the obviousness in the visual grandeur.Varman also makes lavish use of dances to simultaneously introduce characters and situations. Alia Bhatt as Roop traipses in with ‘Rang barse' in the opening titles, fresh as a daisy and free as a soaring kite to establish her sense of freedom which is soon going to be snatched away. While Varun Dhawan as Zafar energetically dances on the streets with ‘Baki sab first class hai', Roop, husband Dev, first wife Satya, patriarch Balraj Chaudhry with his own sins of the past and Bahaar Begum add their own colour to the picture. Towards the climax, Bahaar dances to a soulful ‘Tabaah ho gaye' to symbolise the all-round fatal end to love and emotions.Despite the inordinate length, what lingers are the performances and the music. Alia Bhatt's chakkars in the exquisitely-picturised ‘Ghar more pardesiya' are a revelation, packing an impact as love-torn Roop. Varun Dhawan revels as Zafar, showcasing his skill at being energetically macho and vulnerably troubled too. Madhuri Dixit makes a graceful Bahaar. Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt bring a whiff of stardom from the past. Sonakshi Sinha is perfectly cast as Satya, the older daughter-in-law who has to do something which no wife would want to in her lifetime. Aditya Roy Kapur fits the role of the stiff khandaani Dev.
